MY TAKE: Macklin Celebrini coming to the San Jose Sharks

[Music] here’s Brody Brazil you know headed into this summer there was kind of a laundry list of questions surrounding the SOS sharks beginning with the draft lottery what pick would they ultimately get and it was about a 25 or so% chance that they would get the number one pick overall but obviously High anticipation around that how about the head coaching situation was it still David Quinn’s job he had one more year on the contract or would they move on to somebody else and if the sharks did get that number one overall pick and most likely would pick Macklin celebrini would celebrini stay in college for one more season or would he turn pro turns out we have answers to all of those questions now the Sharks did get the number one pick they did select celebrini they do have a new head coach in Ryan warski and now mlin celebrini has made it official he has signed with the San Jose Sharks he’s done playing college hockey he is coming to San Jose for this upcoming hockey season and I’m not here to make this video and say I told you so but I kind of heard some things I gathered some things I put my instinct to the task and I’m not surprised at all that this is eventually what mlin celebrini announced he was going to do it’s my take and my feeling that he may have had this decided for the last couple weeks if not maybe a month or so since the draft lottery happened he figured out who was going to get number one who was going to take him how all of that would play out and I don’t blame celebrini for being reserved in his approach about announcing all of this the decision to leave College to turn pro and to come to the NHL he really couldn’t announce this before the draft because that’s kind of overstepping the situation you you really do have to wait until the team picks you before you want to declare oh yeah I’m I’m turning pro it’s kind of a weird thing to do ahead of the curve right he also didn’t want to do it on draft night of course I interviewed him within the first hour of him being drafted by the Sharks but I totally understood in that situation that’s not the time or place for him considering the circumstances he’s very proper he’s very respectful he didn’t want to overshadow anybody else’s night can you imagine if celebrini gets drafted and then the first interview he does says oh yeah I’m turning pro like that would kind of steal the show I mean literally the show of the entire draft of everybody else who is making it their night so give celebrini credit for that he also didn’t want to make this announcement during development Camp that’s also a weird situation to put so much of that Spotlight on you and not everybody else that’s also there as a prospect or as a young member of the San Jose Shark so I I totally understand he didn’t want to overstep he didn’t want to get ahead of himself jump the gun whatever you want to say he didn’t want to do any of that I I say he couldn’t announce it here he didn’t want to announce this decision until now I had a feeling he he wanted to give the Sharks a good heads up he wanted to give his college a good heads up and he didn’t want to do it until a couple days after the development Camp was over I’m also not sure what going back to college and staying in college for one more year what would that have offered him I mean maybe winning a title there what are you going to win another Hobie Baker you already did that as as the youngest player in college hockey last year he was 17 for the entirety of of the last season so I’m not sure what was left for him other than growing mature Ing and just getting one year older while playing college hockey next season but again I had this Instinct the entire time I didn’t want to put this out because I didn’t want to lead everybody on I also didn’t want to be wrong but everything I saw that was aligning and coming together it made a ton of sense that this ultimately was what celebrini was going to do and you also now have this situation with Will Smith signing recently with the San Jose Sharks also on an entry-level deal celebrini and Smith United right Will Smith was the number four overall pick from not this year’s draft but last Summer’s draft out in Nashville and so now you have the strength and experience combined you have the the shared experience that’s probably the best way to say it the shared experience of celebrini and Smith as rookies in the NHL if they truly get to do this entire season the entirety of it together what a great experience to go through together to lean on each other to have it so that the pressures are less directed at either one and don’t get me wrong we’ll talk about the sharks like I don’t think there should be a lot of Team pressure on this group next year they are not expected to do anything tremendous in terms of a turnaround the reason they got the number one pick is because they were the worst team in the NHL last year now it’s not going to stay that way and stay that way for long for sure but the point is there’s going to a lot of going to be a lot of eyeballs on those two players and the expectations of turning things around whether that’s right or wrong I think you got to hold your horses on that but the pressures of this team and getting better it’s not solely directed on Macklin it’s not solely directed on will and so they kind of get to balance that with each other and the other players that could make the team as rookies I also think because I I’m I believe they were roommates for development camp don’t think that wasn’t intentional I think they might be in a living situation in their first year together at the NHL level maybe a condo something whatever it would make sense they know each other they’ve got each other and they’ll have each other’s backs and it’s also ideal to have them together like that but with Patrick Marlo and Joe thoron and the Mike Rees of the world and the Scott hannon’s not far away and I know Dan Bole is is around the rink once in a while to have those players and more around as kind of advisors to these young players and and like guidance for these young players this is such a perfect scenario and let’s also not forget that Macklin’s family has the ranch out in Livermore that’s a 35 minute drive and you are feeling as home as it gets maybe Mom and Dad can do little home cooking little barbecuing and home cooking when you go to Livermore take will out there with you by the way but also for the sharks with celebrini and Smith you now have a little one twoo punch they’re rookies and again we got to temper our expectations here but the sharks have an attraction and it’s not to disrespect any of the Sharks on last year’s team even the William ecklands or whatever other name I could throw out there right now it’s not to say they didn’t have that but now let’s be honest there’s some hype there’s some energy there’s some attraction there’s some attention surrounding this Duo right here as a one too but it’s also very important that we stop right here right now and address this as I said before the sharks have not instantly fixed their results for the upcoming season are they going to win the Pacific Division are they going to make the playoffs I’m not here to tell you that at all you know what I would love to be i’ would love to be wrong I’d love to be proven wrong I think that would be a great Sports story it’d be a tremendous surprise I would love to see them arrive ahead of schedule most certainly I would we all deserve a little bit of good luck to be honest with you but I also want to point out that the growth and the process and struggles are still all ahead for this team it’s going to happen they’re going to lose some games they’re probably not going to have a winning record right away like we have to understand this still takes some time we’re talking about 18 and 19 and 20 year olds to develop and get better and be the Future Leaders of your team this is a process but the wheels are in motion and in just a second I’m going to show you one tremendous parallel of where the sharks are at versus where another championship team was recently at and the similarities are striking they really are so it’s important that you really understand this is still a work in progress but it’s also different now this work in progress is different now because the struggles of the last couple years really didn’t produce a ton of Hope there was a lot of foundation work have you ever seen a house under construction and they do foundation work that’s not the sexy part of the process there’s no paint there’s no textures there’s no outside materials there’s nothing pretty about doing foundation work but that’s what mik career and Company were doing the last couple years to prepare for this situation and no I’m not saying they were preparing to tank and to get the number one overall pick that wasn’t even granted but Fortune went their way even number four last year went their away and so this is the results of opening up some cap space preparing yourself for the future um undoing a lot of things that were raveled way too tight raveled is that a word wound up way too tight so the struggles of the last few years it was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel now you can always find even when the team might struggle in this upcoming year you can always find reward with individual growth how are these young players doing how are they coming along how are they looking from the first game of year to the final game of the regular season how did they develop how did they mature you’ve saw you’ve seen that with William Eckland look at last season how William Eckland totally evolved confidence-wise growth-wise and not just in the prior two years but last year alone you could absolutely see it so there’s all of a sudden some sense of direction and aim with this franchise win or lose it was hard to see Direction and AIM now at least you’ll be able to see that and I’ll make another video on this because I think this is a totally important different topic if you’re somebody who was on the bandwagon and I hate to use the word bandwagon it it elicits like uh something bad about the process or you know the Casual fan can’t be a bandwagon fan whatever I’ll just say this Now’s the Time to get back on the shark train all right because the way things are lined up it’s going to come sooner than later that this franchise revives itself and I’ve already seen an overwhelming response to the things that have happened the number one overall pick and then who the Sharks got and then now the fact that celebrini has signed and they’re already selling a bunch of celebrini sweaters and I don’t know that attendance is going to be as down as it was the last couple years all of these things are good things and I also know the sharks are going to do all of this the right way and what do I mean by the right way is to build something sustainable build something for the long term so that San Jose can once again contend for cups on an annual basis year after year for I don’t know maybe as long as a decade and that brings me to this final comparison here with the Golden State Warriors and I know this is sensitive timing because Klay Thompson is now no longer a warrior but do you remember when the Warriors drafted Steph Curry was 2009 and then epe Udo the year after that and then Jenkins and Klay Thompson are drafted 11th and 44th overall respectively by The Warriors and then Draymond goes in 2012 so 09 11 and 12 so Steph Curry was on the Warriors for several years like 0910 101 1112 and then finally in 1213 the Warriors after having a losing record for years they finally have a winning record they finally make the playoffs this year the Warriors even went through the coaching change right to bring in Steve cerr in 2014 and starting when they made those first playoffs in 1213 they made the play playoffs nine of the next 11 years obviously winning a small handful of titles to go along with that so the point being here like this reminds me of what the sharks are doing building internally building through the draft and now they’re going to take this collection of players and hopefully do something special with them doing it the right way building from within but that’s the other point here like when the Warriors Got step Curry there was still what nine 10 11 four years until things got a lot better now I hope I hope the timeline is a little bit more condensed for the sharks in that process but just take this and enjoy it and understand it and also put it into that same perspective right like this is a very good thing but this is still something that’s going to take some time but at least it’s now going in the right direction and you can see it you’ve made it here to the end of this video you know I really appreciate that Thumbs Up Down Below that’ll greatly help me in this video and this Channel and I 2. Mike Grier's recent moves and changes to the lineup should make a difference and bury last year's results in the distant past. I think this new Sharks team has a chance at playing .500 win per centage hockey and winning many close games or shoot outs. Injuries could change the prospects, but Sharks should get rookie of the year trophy new year to start the positive trajectory. Pay attention to the NHL stats on how many 18 year olds and nineteen year olds play on regular rosters (it is probably going to be about 10 total), the Sharks could have youngest roster in NHL this year if Musty also makes the team. Grier is looking much smarter than he seemed last year with changes that made Sharks last in league standings.

  3. This kid is a stud and an absolute gentleman. I wish i had his drive and demeanor when I was 18…… I had to go to the army in order to act half as mature as Celebrini.

  4. I hope Musty stays in the NHL. Smith and Celebrini are now here and he had great chemistry with Smith. Heโ€™s ready. Heโ€™s too good for the OHL and he canโ€™t go to the AHL so let him learn and develop in the NHL with the other prospects.

  5. Good for him, but he better be ready to get checked because Conor bedrard got drilled this year. Cellibrini can't pull what he did when Nick capone from uconn went for a check and cellibrini ducked to avoid it. And Nick Capone made contact with his head so cellibrini put himself in that position. Also, this is good for all the teams in hockey east except for bu!
