  1. I’m not gonna lie I did not see this coming, but Slater has been on a decline for a long time now so I’m glad we were able to get something for him. Welcome back Alex Young!

Edit: I want to clarify before eventually someone says it — this is not a shot at Slater’s character. He has been nothing but a genuine, kind guy off the field and the work he has done to promote SF and his work on the player’s commission can’t be understated. He was also key to our run in 2021 where we made it to Game 5 of the NLDS. But there’s a certain point where performance on the field over a certain extended period of time has to warrant a change. I hope he does better in Cincy, but this was the right move for the Giants

  2. They actually traded Slater? Fucking finally! Feels like this has been a long time coming. Let’s see what Matos can do!

  3. i know slater hasn’t been good for a minute now, and hasn’t played insane at any point really, but it still feels like an end of an era

  4. Gonna miss you Slater. I remember seeing him at Rivercats games a couple years ago

  5. Slater obviously struggled this season, but for the majority of his Giants tenure he was a solid platoon bat (.276/.367/.437 career slash line against lefties). More so than I think a lot of fans realized/gave him credit for. Kinda sucked to see how quickly/severely this fanbase turned on him.

  6. He was a solid giant at one point. No need to kick him on the way out

  7. It really feels like any news regarding the giants acquisitions is getting a pitcher. I know it’s not all of it but it feels like at least 90%.

When will we start getting more hitters

  8. Our longest tenured players are now Logan Webb, Yaz, and Tyler Rogers

We join the padres, mariners, and pirates as the teams to not have a player from 2018 left

  9. Gonna be rough to see the longest tenured Giant go, but he just wasn’t contributing anything with the bat this season. Alex Young is reunited with the Giants after pitching for them in 2022.

  10. I was never the biggest Slater fan, but it’s kinda sad seeing him go. He had been here for so long. He seems like a really good dude. Wish him the best in Cincinnati. This is good for everyone. The Giants give looks to others, and Slater still has time to play better and drive up his stock before he hits Free Agency. You never know. A hitter’s park could do wonders. Not sure what Slater’s numbers are in Cincinnati, but now he will play in the NL Central much more.

  11. He had some big pinch hit moments and was a weapon vs kershaw and other lefty specialists for a good while. Overall a pretty average player, but he was undoubtedly a good Giant.

  12. 🫡🫡🫡he was a good Giant and i love how much he loved the city

  13. I know he’s had a bad year, but he was a really good dude for this team since he came up both as a player and a clubhouse guy/union rep and I hope fans choose to remember the good he did as a Giant, rather than the last 2.5 months of sub-par ball.

Also he was like the only guy on the team who lived in the bay year-round and I just thought that was really cool

  14. Nightengale reported he was placed on waivers before the trade. So he was mere moments from being DFA’d?
