Tyler Bertuzzi speaks to media on 7.5.24 | Chicago Blackhawks

sorry about that hi Tyler uh first of all early welcome to Chicago and um I guess my first question is just uh you know what is was it about the Blackhawks uh that made you decide okay this is where I want to be thank you oh yeah um yeah I guess I Chicago wasn’t really on on my radar um and then uh the day before free agency Nick Felino called me and said uh um you know they’re a little bit interested and you know I was uh obviously excited about that um and then kind of things went uh went on from there all right we’ll go to Matt Carlson with the hockey news and the AP All right what about uh Phil Thompson with the Chicago Tribune hello Tyler how are you I’m good how are you great thank you welcome to Chicago uh thank you uh I have a serious question and kind of a funny question uh so talking to uh Nick Pino he said a lot about uh doing what it takes uh to win bringing more of that kind of uh fight and energy did you discuss that with Nick and what are your thoughts about uh what you can bring to to bring about a winning culture in Chicago uh no I mean we just more or less just talked about you know the organization um the city uh some living you know where to live and and just you know things that are important to me and my family and and obviously moving to a new city so kind of went over that and um but obviously um myself as a player um hopefully I can bring a little bit of you know some energy and um you know I’m coming here and and I’m excited for for a new opportunity and um you know it’s uh it’s exciting for uh for me and my family and then uh I’m assuming you talked to Kyle Davidson how much did you two talk about Sudbury yeah uh no he called me it was kind of a short combo I’m sure we’ll probably dive into that a little bit more uh when I get to Chicago and meet him in person thank you yeah just a reminder please use the raise the hand function uh if you have a question um we’ll go back to Matt Carlson with the AP and the hockey news audio hey Tyler can you I don’t know if you can hear me now this is Matt Carlson um yeah um mentioned that that you talked pH just mentioned that you talked to both Nick and to uh to Kyle are you up in studbury right now no no I’m not in sub right now did did you did you grow up there or uh yeah yeah no I grew up in subur yeah all right yeah just a just a connection there with the the folks from nickel country um yeah you know I uh I played for the Copper Cliff Redmond and they uh they had the the Blackhawk logo so it’s kind of full full circle sure and I I saw you play Junior down in galf um but uh just as you said trying to bring the energy to the to to the club the um one of the things that Nick said as the as the season ended is that he want and a couple other guys too that they wanted the Blackhawks wanted to have a I guess they use the term identity pieces and I’m thinking of your game um what’s the kind of statement you hope to be able to make as as a player here well I mean as as a team I think we’re obviously looking to you know show up every night and work hard and um you know bring energy and bring passion to to the game and um you know no matter what the outcome is you know we know we gave it our all and we all put our best effort forward and you know as a personally that uh that’s what I feel like I can bring is just you know some energy um you know some commitment and um some hard work awesome thanks yep go to Ben Pope with the Chicago Sun Times hey Tyler welcome to Chicago um your St kind of compliment bards well it seems like you know getting a for check and winning battles and just helping get the puck back and um have you thought about that about how you know that opportunity potentially play with him uh yeah I mean yeah um obviously he’s a special player um you know and that’s what I can bring is you know trying to get on the for check and you know bring that energy try and create some space and you know whether that’s playing with him or or whoever it may be um it’s not going to different uh differential my game and um I’m going to continue to you know get on the for check work hard and um you know try and bring some energy what have you I guess thought of just the opportunity to get more playing time and what else appealed about coming to the Blackhawks for you yeah um obviously it’s a younger group I kind of went through the same thing in in Detroit um you know with a younger group you know a hungry group ready you know ready to work hard and and bring it every night and um you know part of the reason was you know just it’s close uh to where we live right now and um you know it’s a you know it was a big decision um obviously you know hockey wise but you know thinking about you know family family and everything and bringing everything um you know into it um is it’s kind of it was the perfect place um for us right now thanks we’ll go back to Tracy Myers with nhl.com yeah one more from me Tyler uh just obviously you were part of many moves that the Blackhawks made on Monday and uh just wondering you know what you think of some of these other guys coming in and any familiarity you have with them thank you yeah I think I was the first and then obviously to see um you know more signings after that was very uh intriguing and and great to see and you know a lot of veterans um a lot of guys that have played you know a lot of games in the league um few who won Stanley Cups um I think that’s just a you know a great move and you know to start uh start getting in the heading in the right direction and um I’m looking forward to it meeting all the guys and um I’m sure they’re all excited as well we’ll go to Phil Thompson with the Chicago Tribune Tyler when we first talked to Nick Felino and Taylor Hall they they talked about having to make a mental and emotional adjustment to being a play coming from a off Contender uh to going to a team that was rebuilding so I ask you the the same thing is is there an adjustment that has to go on within yourself knowing where the Blackhawks are in their development um know I did it for six years um no it’s just another opportunity to you know hopefully be able to stick this one out and you know ride it all the way and you know get the get us back to playoffs and in contention and um you know it’s it’s a it’s an awesome opportunity you know for everyone on the team to you know to look at each other and think that we can do it and you know obviously it’s going to take some time but you know progress every year and get better and um you know like I said just going back to you know every night just knowing that we put our best effort out and um you know that I think we can live with that go to Nate brown with the Chicago hockey now hi Tyler welcome to Chicago um thank you you signed a four-year deal with the Blackhawks and back when you were with Detroit you had a two-year deal there that uh when you resigned and then a one-year deal uh well you finished out with Boston that had a oneye with Toronto is there a peace of mind having that longer term deal and and a little bit more time to kind of acclimate yourself here in Chicago yeah definitely um and I think it’s just going to allow me to just play more freely and you know just do my thing and just worry about hockey focus on hockey and um you know just go out there and and know that you know every night just go out and work hard and you know I don’t have to worry about that I can just go play hockey and that can be my number one focus and there’s going to be you know no background you know noise of you know whatever I’m if I’m going to sign there next year or or where I’m going to go or whatever I can just focus on hockey and um you know just go out there and work and you touched on a little bit too with your time in Detroit I mean you came up through that system you were drafted by them you were a cder you were the cder cup MVP back when the Griffins won what lessons do you bring going from that rebuild and then into those playoff environments what do you hope to teach some of these kids that are coming up here in Chicago yeah uh I mean it obviously takes a little bit of time um obviously the you know the Red Wings had um you know a good chance make the playoffs last year and you know it’s optimistic that you know obviously it takes a little bit of time but once you get through it it’s uh you know it’s worth it in the end and um you know just every year get better and better and better and you know eventually that uh that opportunity is going to come thank you do we have any more uh
