all right Nick um myself back to uh live programming here don’t know how that happened but I do know that we got a comfortable lead doesn’t mean the game’s over though R suter’s in the game which means this inning should go quick typically going get out in front of something I am running on like uh 3 hours of sleep um I made a grave mistake of uh trying to stay up make sure I got the video done and then realized I had a early morning meeting this morning and uh I just didn’t add up well so I’m going to do my best to muster up some good energy though this isn’t a good night rain delay did not help me though personally of course maybe others did not help me I thought the rain delay was going to be a lot longer and then and then nope game’s back on I missed I missed uh basically like an inning and a half because we had tornado sirens going off and I was scrambling around trying to make sure that I didn’t my D did you know I wanted to make sure I wasn’t an idiot and uh went downstairs and then uh yeah so who knows been a lot of tornado it feels like tornadoes have been a um I don’t know been more tornado warnings than usual this year nothing like having a six-run lead and walking a Le off guy though fix my seat all right let’s see what we got here.com Suter Suter Suter tough day for candy got a walk ah like having a walk when everybody else in their mom has three Colorado Rockies like a drum and they did and uh I I I’m just fighting the fight I’m just going to get out in front of that and make sure that everyone understands where I’m I’m at uh it’s not an excuse but it is the reality Nick I’m very thankful that we get to play the Rockies I don’t know about you but I would like to play him 162 times first do you have any personal thoughts on that I think this version of the Colorado Rockies yes I would like to play them 162 times I do think uh to our our good pal that that made that comment I actually think that comment has a lot of Merit most years the Rockies are typically a very difficult team to playing cor field and the Reds history says but uh the Reds have won eight straight games against the Colorado Rockies so uh I’m enjoying playing them this year but hey uh if there’s anything this season has taught us Trace let’s not get too high let’s not get too high because we still got two more games against these guys that’s a great point and I’m not going to get too high on this show largely because of uh one oftentimes we are already accused of things like that although we are very very very clean people and that’s never been a a really never been a thing that’s never been a thing people have accused us but it’s never been a thing we have wrench controversy in the chat we have a lot of things going on right now I’m and he had faced the minimum through two and two-thirds Innings but then a rain delay came ldo came back out C quantrol did not Not Lola would give up a double and a hit by pitch but did get out of the third inning without allowing a run he would not be as fortunate in the fourth he ended up giving up four runs and his day was done just like that it was a 5-4 game and uh The Vibes on Twitter were not high at that point uh Red’s got two runs back in the fifth on an RBI double by Tyler Stevenson and then an RBI triple by resigns Reds took a 74 lead then the Reds poured it on in the seventh reigned continued his magical start with another moonshot home run will Benson had an RBI double Spencer steer homered Reds took an 11 to4 lead Red’s Bullpen was great overall outside of a rare off night this season from Buck farmer Reds win 126 Reds Now 44 and 48 on the season all right and this is what I’m talking about you know what if you need to do a deep Drive of the day just bring in ree mean I I’ll do it every day if I need to Nick I I’ll let everybody jump on my back if it means the reds are going to score 12 runs in a game by the way the Run differential I don’t know if you care about that anymore but I think I think it’s got a pretty big hole in it just saying what do you mean it has a hole in it it has a hole in it let’s be honest are the red are the Reds the only team that plays the Colorado Rockies well they so far there’s probably at least half the half the teams haven’t have well not in the National League to be fair but the bre has just split a four game series with the Colorado Rockies H well I’m just saying you know just get no credit for what they well when you have a 30 plus plus 30 on one team through like five what is it five games it seems that seems a little disingenuous but just saying they all count they all count well let me ask you this would you rather have had uh plus 30 with the rest of the league and minus 27 for the Rockies in five games just saying you would have sure and the are probably the best record in baseball right now thank you thank you at least we can agree to agree agree we can agree on something okay that’s like Nick do you uh I don’t I don’t know I don’t have a good analogy well you you could say it I mean if it’s not good I’ll tell you I don’t know I thought I had something it just yeah yeah wow that happens when you run on I think we combine I think we combined for eight hours of sleep so we’re in bad shape I know how bad of shape we are first of all I worry about Nick uh I I know that you know we want to talk baseball on the show right now we’ll talk baseball here in a minute I mean like legitimately the Reds they did nothing wrong tonight outside of a couple things they could have thrown the ball to about everything but I’m just saying those are the little things that I see from time to time and I’m just like hey man would be kind of nice to play some fundamental baseball but um anyway I digress and I I I worry about you because you get like three hours of sleep every night I’m not used to this I I’m a I I need my uh beauty sleep as they say I I I I need at least six seven eight hours of sleep minimum two and a half hour if I’m if I hit five I’m good as long as it’s not as long as it’s not like three in a row when I hit like that three in a row that’s when I uh I struggle Nick that’s baseballs and we all know that this isn’t going to continue forever but you know what I I I think that we uh we fundamentally yesterday said something that I think we we were wishing and hoping for which is can he just get lucky and get hot and play way above his head for two or three months is that is that that seems that seems semi-realistic kind of yeah I try like this to be clear I try to keep up with all the crazy Reese hin stats like first Reds player ever to hit homers in his first two games first Reds player with five extra base hits in his first two games uh his first two home runs were the the two longest in the statcast era by anyone in their first two home runs I don’t know the list goes on and on um second player this is this one was maybe the most Wild One resized the second player with multiple extra base hits in his first two career games since 1901 the only other player is Ian Desmond in 2009 so like this is just this is stupid uh I don’t it’s incredible it almost makes me just want to say why the hell do I do minor league reports every night because I watched this guy and this was not the guy I watched I mean yeah he’d have some moments where he you know hit these tank jobs but um anyone who watched his at bats I don’t know I don’t know um to be fair Nick and I’m not trying to I’m not trying to say that this is going to happen with Rees and and it’s going to go completely South but at some point they’re not going to throw the ball in the strike zone we can agree on that and when they when they don’t throw the ball in the strike zone with reee hin is he going to be capable of laying off those pitches history says no the the most positive thing I could say about reines is last year he got off to a really bad start at Double A and then he got in incredibly hot I don’t know if remembered it I think he hit like homers in like six out of seven games or something there was some crazy home run streak that he was on so he’s done this before in the minor leagues and he he finished off to his credit he finished off his year in double a really strong so you know I I don’t know I don’t I don’t know what was going on with him down at at at Triple A this year um because there was no signs pointing to this uh but he’s a spark plug the Reds desperately needed and you’re going to ride this thing out um as long as you can’t because the p the power is legit this isn’t you know this isn’t um a guy that’s coming up and hitting a bunch of cute singles or anything this isn’t with all du respect to Leo Lopez having a four hit game in his big league debut um this is a lot different than that because this is actually a a quantifiable um tool that that Reese Hines has that that that can translate so um yeah I mean just incredible just incredible stuff and um you know good for him you know obviously it means a lot to him means a lot to his mom you know just kind of cool all the cool kind of baseball stuff yeah it was really cool to see his family in the in the in the stands just probably losing their minds and and they you know pan they would pan to them via the camera every every you know every home run and it just uh yeah it like you said before it kind of uh even to go back to um you know the the whole situation with the major league call-ups and Jim day doing the interviews with the parents every single time it’s just like that’s like the small little idiom things that we get to see um every so often that does it reminds us like hey this is this is uh this is actually like life-changing stuff for some of these guys even though we have people complaining that uh this is this is somehow bad I’ve seen at times I don’t know if that’s a bit that I see on X but people are now are saying that reins is going to be the uh basically the trade the the the deadline trade that the reds are going to say that’s what they did it’s like I think it’s a bit I think it’s a bit I did see one W I did see one wild take from a pretty resp respectable person I I’ll leave them nameless and I’m just like man you there’s no way you watched a single bad at triaa man come on sit this one down s this one down fair enough well you know there’s times where I I at least openly admit that I’ve not uh I’ve not seen something and it turns out I’ve not really paid attention to Carlos karea at all because uh during that break I I took a took a little peek at Carlos karea stats pretty damn good player I mean you couldn’t be any better actually like this guy the complete opposite of Dan wson so you know shout out to Carlos karea I don’t know what made me think he had a season ending injuries but clearly he hasn’t so shout out to Carlos no disrespect all right uh will Benson he’s on the rundown why not it’s like uh it’s like all the uh I don’t know I I’m going to be nice tonight you know you there’s no reason for me to to to do to r on a parade you know there’s no reason so I’m just going to say I’m very happy that some of these guys have been struggling a lot have found some success albeit against the world’s worst pitching staff um we’ll take it maybe it’ll get him some semblance of confidence moving forward I mean I would bet everything I have that will Benson will um have a higher Ops the rest of the year than ree hin so yeah I I’ll say that right now maybe that maybe that’ll be maybe that’ll be steer will Myers 2.0 but maybe um um I I think again I I I’m a Believer in will Benson I know he’s been awful um the last several weeks I I don’t think again I’ve said over and over I I don’t think his overall numbers are as bad as as he actually was just because he got so many at bats early in the year against left-handed pitching that the maybe the biggest mistake the Reds have made all year was doing that but I think his Ops against Ry pitching is over 700 right now like his Ops is higher than Jake fry against right-handed pitching like that’s that’s where we’re at and and he getting all the flak and you know Jake fry again has all the extenuating circumstances that excuses his performance but will Benson’s been a better hitter Than Jake fry this year it’s just not looked pretty um but like will Benson’s clearly capable of I think going on a run and getting hot now Willie I I don’t know but um the maybe the most impressive thing tonight with Will Benson was actually the strikeout he got the Home Run and then he had one of those just patented will Benson at bats his next timeout I think he saw seven or eight pitches just really uh uh just you know the what the bats we saw all of last year and so that’s what maybe gives me a little bit of hope that this kind get hot because again the the Reds need him that there’s not a better option than will Benson um and if you think that that letting him Ride This Out is the best for him long term ride it out yeah well uh for those that are wondering that are tuning into the show first and foremost my whole family is coming down here because the tornado sirens are going off and this is a 2.0 of a previous show that we’ve done before so if this randomly shuts off if the show just goes completely kaput it is largely because maybe we’re getting blasted by a tornado but if not we’ll talk about Tyler Stevenson until that happens so Tyler Stevenson hey I I I said some things yesterday of uh that I I I still and I still don’t I still don’t believe that you know he’s going to end up being like a a franchise typee player that we once hoped for but he had a good night and I’m not going to say that that um that it’s meaningless but I take it with a little bit of a grain a grain of salt and and I know it sounds like I’m being a hater and all that but I just I mean good swing on a three 0 um squared it up did exactly what you’re supposed to do on three he he picked a spot and the pitcher threw it in that spot and he didn’t miss it um smashed a a spinning break ball and then uh you know land lice and Double Down the Line to have really what what was a great day but uh hopefully moving forward again I I get proved wrong by this guy and uh I guess just to make sure that I keep this bit going I don’t think he’s very good you know I think ultimately he’s probably not gonna do much tomorrow either so we’ll see Nick H what a difference to day makes up to a 99 WRC plus now um and you factor that in I he I don’t know how bad his numbers dipped over the last week because he was really struggling coming into tonight but I mean you know obviously he’s had a a challenging couple weeks um and and you know the thing that maybe wasn’t talked about I don’t I don’t know how long his struggles go back I’d have to do a little bit more digging but it feels like he’s been struggling for a couple weeks right yeah I mean I don’t go ahead but this what my my point was I assuming that’s the case I think it’s been a couple weeks where he’s kind of been you know not not like he was I mean remember this guy was one phone call away from a baby on the other side of the country it’s his first kid so I mean like these guys are humans I mean that that I’m sure was was weighing on him um and so you know hopefully he’s getting into as much of a routine as you possibly can at this stage which you’re not going to get into a real routine until like next year but um you know hope he’s kind of settled in he feels you know better about his wife and his baby at home away from him and um yeah I don’t know and may maybe maybe the pitches were just right in the right spot and he put a good swing tonight it means nothing but there is some built-in excuses as to why he might have struggled the last three four five weeks I think that’s worth noting there’s a human part of this game there is a human part of the game I think you’re being fair but I think you’re being very nice as well I I like if we’re going to use that logic then I think that uh taking the Elliot rearing approach with the logic of Jesse Winker could be could be could be kind of argued too where it’s like oh you got to up and move and you got to go to the West Coast you never lived there before it’s like well I mean you’re kind of a I I guess I just look at these guys they make a significant amount of money doesn’t discre it doesn’t discredit the idea that they are human and they’re going to have human elements and Jake fry is a great example that anybody that that has any kind of heart understands that that situation in of itself could could wreck havoc on a person for an entire season e even though things might be going relatively well based off the situation at hand so I’m not I’m not discrediting what you just said I would just say that you know from the standpoint that this is his job the end of at the end of it all and you know I hope at the end of the season he’s continues to play average baseball I’ll take that I’m not expecting him to be above average catcher I don’t think that he is one so again not an impact Nicolo can make and he’s gonna get one more start before the allstar break which is really exciting get to see him on Sunday against the Miami a team that’s not very good either um so yeah i i i overall I would I don’t think I would have anything other than being encouraged about Nicolo tonight um the Rockies they did not send their starter back out there um now they’re in a little bit different of a situation they’re probably looking to move that guy here in about three weeks so and they have nothing to play for whatsoever but you know they didn’t bring their guy back out there nicod doo dy tried to gut through give the Reds a few more Innings just it wasn’t there um but yeah I mean the reds are clearly so much better of a team with Nicko of course and I also think that there might have been just because the he went back out there maybe just because of the idea that he just came back and he kind of wanted to kind of stretch himself a little bit and he I I might guess is he threw probably one simulated inning in the tunnel based off the time frame you know you can sit for 10 minutes and then throw for 10 minutes and then sit for 15 and then you warm up again to to to actually pitch in the real game so you know it’s hard to say without being there but um whatever we’ll move forward hunter green gets a chance to go to the All-Star Game you talked about this yesterday Nick you called this you kind of called this if we’re being you know if we’re being fair to you I think you’re a fortune teller also called Graham Ashcraft getting demoted oh man having a having a good week let’s uh let’s call something more fun I need to go a little more I don’t know let’s um who’s going to hit a home run tomorrow um let’s do that that that’s let’s say R face a lefty tomorrow yep Austin Slater I knew you gonna do that I knew you were gonna do that is he 100% gonna be in the lineup tomorrow you think I mean if he’s not in the lineup tomorrow against lefty well I just what about the travel like and I know I know he got into town I think Tuesday was the day yeah which today today’s Tuesday today’s Tuesday right right yeah yeah so um I was recording the podcast and I typically try to write some notes to make it sound and you know go well and I I I was like where was Austin Slater on Sunday and I look and he was in Cleveland and he got a that bat in the game in Cleveland and the Reds didn’t announce that move on Sunday night till 12:30 in the morning so the the Giants played a Tuesday back in San Francisco so I’m sure he flew back could you imagine getting out of plan flying from Cleveland to San Francisco and then hey buddy you’re going right back to Ohio so that’s why I think the red said we’ll let you we’ll let you join the team on Tuesday get get yourself a day to get situated yeah that’s tough I mean you’re in Cleveland you fly all the way back to the West Coast you get there you get all settled in and they turn around tell you you got to fly right back to Ohio and oh by the way you’re going to be there you’re going to be there the rest of the year pretty tough you’ll probably be batting lead off against left I mean you would think for Slater’s perspective he would he would be excited to get an opportunity to to get to get get get a chance to play a little bit more so not to just skip over hunter green being an All-Star but uh he had mentioned uh himself that you know he’s thankful that he got the nod I think the question was does this validate everything that he was trying to do you know from last year going into this year and he said of course it did not it he validates himself he doesn’t need this to validate him but you know H listen Hunter Green’s been fantastic all season I think he’s progressed incredibly well from last year to this year and let’s not forget Nick last year was kind of a shaky situation because he didn’t throw the ball really great in I don’t want to say the majority of the starts but you know I without looking at the numbers half the time he finished the year off I think stronger than he started the year had a little bit of an injury you didn’t know you didn’t 100% know what you were getting this year right there was still there was still many doubters Min many many hunter green doubters and you know it as much as I do and I’m just you can kind of gloss over the idea that you’re getting this good of production out of hunter green this early and that contract that everybody was complaining about remember that contract Nick that everybody was like wow why did we do this we didn’t need to do it it’s looking pretty damn good now my man yeah uh mentioned on the broadcast hunter green youngest red starting pitcher selected the All-Star game since the late Legend Mike laass back in 1979 I heard there’s a crazy story about that too about how he got into it the Reds and got released like the next year or something I’m gonna have to do some more digging on that because that sounds like an incredible story uh but also green and Ellie uh first Red’s teammates 24 younger since sha Casey and Scott Williamson back in 1999 so yeah really cool for hunter green we were hoping he’ take a big step this year he’s taken a probably even a little bigger step than maybe I had even hoped it’s um it’s fun it’s fun that hunter green and Ellie De La Cruz are both Allstars after you know some of the the conversation in April um it’s it’s cool it’s really cool Seattle four Innings G oh I listen I I I I can only imagine how proud you are you are just uh you you are beaming like a proud papa yeah you are you’re beaming uh Michael R says there’s currently 341 obviously that was a little bit ago but there was I’m I’m thinking to myself man I am absolutely beat have a wrench what is K Casey is Casey who’s in charge of this by the way I’ve given a couple riches but oh so you have access to wrenches too yes miss everyone pirates are better she’s Lindsay you’ve watched like three Pirates game let’s be honest the the the question in the chat is do we give Craig a wrench no I think Craig’s deserved a wrench yes I mean there’s a lot of people that have deserved wrenches on this show um but here’s the thing I’m not going to get into the debate of who deserves uh wrenches and who doesn’t because then I think that puts me in a bad spot here’s the here’s the problem though and I don’t I don’t know if Craig knows this I don’t I don’t know um once you get a wrench you cannot mute people so there’s sometimes I wish I could take my richen away and the be a couple people I wish I could maybe not see their comments so be careful what you wish for you get a wrench you see it all there’s no there’s no getting away from it so if you have someone that gives it to you you’re gonna have to see it all Ned Flanders uh with the 20th super bomb comes in as always with fire he says uh uh I have a question should the Reds fire David Bell and hire Bud Black something to think about Bud Black has got him he’s got him playing well I sometimes wonder what the hell blood Black’s thinking like oh man is it worth it was it worth this money and then he gets that direct deposit every two weeks he’s probably like ah I can get through the next two weeks Harrow harro I’ve done this since I’ve done this for nine months he said uh even the Steelers fans refuse to live in Pittsburgh there you go all right I know we got a little we got a little we yeah we got a little we got a little Pittsburgh Cincinnati rivalry you know what’s funny about that whole Pittsburgh Cincinnati thing is I don’t really care about it at all cu the Pirates have never really taken anything away from me outside the quo game which I have actually just deleted from my memory so I don’t even remember that but I don’t really care I want I want a pirates Reds rivalry more than Cubs Reds I Cubs RS be fun because a read but right I I Pirates Reds I thought what they had in 2013 was a lot of fun I loved I went to a couple games there when the Pirates had sold out crowds it was electric I I think if both these teams could be good I think it would be really good for both teams but I think both teams are are natural Rivals so I really hope it happens I don’t know about that I I I be if if you got to if you got to if you got to be on the winning side of the Rivalry I would I I’m picking I’m picking the Cardinals and I’m picking the Cubs every time because because the Cardinals specifically have have stolen so much joy from my heart over the years that that team I just hope has a pit of misery headed their way for at least a long time that’s what we’re hoping we’re hoping they’re the last place team it’s the Reds and the Pirates at the top it hurts worse though Nick if you’re right there at the end and then you just lose it to the to the to the team across the way it does I mean I I get what you’re saying but I maybe I’m wrong about that actually because it’s pretty it’s been pretty PR lonely down here in the basement it’s a Reds fan so maybe you’re right I I I don’t know what it feels like actually I do know what it feels like I went to three games uh in 2012 we don’t need to get into that I do know exactly what it feels like to get your heart ripped out in a playoff have you been to PNC uh no I need to go you need to go you need to go I think you’ll have a different perspective if you go to a game there on a day like they have a decent crowd and I think you might you might buy into the hype there all right I’ll go check out PNC I’ll go got on base this was a Louisville one 181 uh this was a final in five innings because of rain Tony kimp as mentioned good debut on base twice uh I mean he’s in nice player um he might find his way onto the big league roster pretty soon um Jacob her’s on base twice as well Levi Jordan is first game uh since he got sent back down actually went through DFAS uh he had a home run two for three Connor Gable had a home run and Michael Trot wine two for three with a double our Chattanooga Lookouts Trace they blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning Austin Hendrick uh our Lookouts Now 23 and 59 on the season uh next week look for a podcast with the every Reds minor league affiliate I hope everyone’s responded except for Chattanooga I’m not sure they want to talk about the team uh Rett louder uh started tonight decent start he got off to a rough start kind of battled through it five innings five hits two runs no walks two strikeouts you know the no walks are great strikeouts for him have been like crazy he’s had a couple games where he had like 11 strikeouts he had six and five um but then he’s had a game where he didn’t strike anyone out and only struck out two so um just trying to battle through it right now 6.52 ra at 11 starts but you know five innings two runs um nothing to be ashamed of there uh Dominic patelli he stole three bases tonight he’s now got 29 stolen bases between um Daytona and Chattanooga Austin Hendrick 0 for four Bubba Thompson 0 for four Bubba’s now hitting 237 with a 588 Ops now up to 118 at bats on a more positive side Matt Nelson was on base twice and Nick North cut two for four with a walk all right down to ha the datton dragons they won five nothing over Southbend actually held the Southbend I think they’re the Cubs Southbend Cubs or Cubbies or Cubs affiliate held them to just two hits uh dragons now 43 and 39 on the season and uh more importantly they are just one game back in the midwest League East Division uh South Stewart two for four with the double Carlos Jorge two for four the home run his 10th of the Year first home run for Jorge since June 11th I loved Carlos Jorge um In My Time Around the dragons this past weekend a really fun guy he had a monster year last year with Daytona struggled this year um but he plays an elite defensive center field so hopefully he can get uh back on track in the second half uh Jay Allen he was on base twice also stole a bag his 22nd of the year um Hector Rodriguez one for four cam Coler 0 for three and then shout out to Ryan Cardona he threw five no hit Innings just allowed one walk struck out seven this was a 19th round pick but he’s on a roll right now he has not allowed a run in his last 15 Innings and um he’s got a 3.76 ER this year he’s got a career 3.52 era over 245 innings all right the low the Daytona Tortugas they won N9 nothing over Fort Meers the Tortugas also only allowed two H tonight Tortuga now 40 and 41 in the season they’re just a half game back in the Florida state League East Division second half race good days all around Samy stura on base three times uh back-to-back multi-hit games for him urland confidon stayed hot he was on base three times he’s now hitting 404 over his last 14 games Ariel alonte three hits 16th home run of the year that leads the Florida state League Connor Burns hit a home run east Smith P two for three with a double the only guy that struggled was the top prospect down there Ricardo cabera 0 for five with three KS and then aner laurano through two shutout Innings hitless Innings struck out two he’s now got a 2.78 erra in 23 games 68 strikeouts and 45 in a third Innings pitched uh the DS L um the DSL Roos lead the Cubs 5 nothing that game was suspended in the fourth inning um adalo Sanchez on 0 for one with the walk nabio Mariano uh one for one double in a walk and then drier maralo was one for two and then the DSL Reds they leave the DSL Orioles black one- nothing that was suspended in the bottom of the fifth yo Sorano um 0 for two and then over in the Arizona complex League the ACL Reds they Trail the ACL Brewers 8 to five Shang and Lynn is 143 um was caught stealing though our hero Shang and Lyn that’s your Nationals white socks and Royals um but Freeland his ER is probably very deceiving because he gave up 17 earned runs in his first two uh starts um this season Freeland actually ranks like top uh he’s second all time in Rocky’s wins above Replacements uh for pitcher seventh in wins fifth in strikeouts um so he’s legitimately been he’s on the mount Rush more of Colorado Rockies uh freom relies on five pitches a four seamer Sinker slider knuckle curve and a change fastball averag is just 92 milph career 6.34 ER against the Reds active Reds are 20 for 59 977 Ops candelario 1 for three India three for six Austin Slater is 10 for 35 with a homer obviously he’s fac him a lot being in the in West and then Tyler Stevenson is one for three right then for the Reds Frankie montis 4 and six 4. 1 n ra last three starts been really good against the Red Sox at the Cardinal and at the Yankees a 2.65 ER you might remember montis threw seven Innings of one hit ball against the Rockies back on June 4th um active Rockies are 11 for 42 against him uh 644 Ops Blackman’s three for 11 Elias Diaz two for S mcm’s four for6 and Rogers is for five all right uh we have a couple things left Nick know what
