Braves vs. D-backs Game Highlights (7/9/24) | MLB Highlights

here is the right-hander Zach Gallen making his third start after he missed a month with that right hamstring strain since he’s been back we’ve seen Zach’s fast ball velocity Spike up into the very high 90s Jared Kellick climbs in looking to get it going for the Braves ready to St and his one-w pitch is hit into right field great start for Atlanta a single for Jared Kellick Kellick feeling so comfortable at the top of that Braves lineup now it rolls on to ozie alz Third Base side foul territory farz over and near the coach’s box makes the catch and that’s the first out cic back to First that’ll bring Austin Riley up to the plate and the pitch swing and a miss got him to chase that curveball and that’s a first strike out in two outs he’s got just a fantastic curve but two outs man at first top of the first no score here’s Matt Olsen one two called strike three a fast ball on the inside corner and Olsen knew it and the inning is over Allen gives him a lead off single he strands a man we head to the bottom of the first Chris Sail making his 17th start this season 11 and3 with a 271 ER Chris Sail has been the sharpest tooth on the saw blade for this rotation he’s been outstanding at an All-Star again for the eighth time in his career left hander out there for the Braves so catel Marte in the lead off spot by a diving Austin Riley Marte singles to lead it off nice job by Marte on a slider just Waits that for that ball long enough and just shoots it right through the left side of the infield and one down here in the first inning and a rare free pass by seil and the Dbacks have two aboard with one out in the first table set right now for Christian Walker and Walker steps in with a pretty impressive resume himself certainly Allstar caliber another payoff pitch and he got him went to that slider first strike out for sail and that’s a big one go one more out to get and here’s Gabriel Moreno 28th pitch of this first on the way he walked two and he’s loaded the bases for Jake mccarth the first Innings this season at least as far as ER goes has been his toughest inning of the entire Bunch first pitch in the ground bought a second O’s got it he’ll throw it to first base and down they go so Chris S had to weave in and out of some very heavy traffic there in the bottom of the first inning but comes through without giving up any runs Ozuna leading it off here in the top of the second Marcel Ozuna cranks this down the left field line and a one hop the wall and the big barar will Rumble into second with a stand up double he’s in scoring position with no out and now Adam Duval and he misses outside so Duval earns a walk so now second and third one down B hit makes it at least one- nothing and here comes last night’s hero Shawn Murphy Murphy grounded to the left side it will score run the middle infield was back so Ozuna comes home one to nothing Atlanta Shawn Murphy with the infield back it’s a pitch up in the zone it’s a good team at bat to make sure you get the run in Orlando Aria at the bottom of the Atlanta order L drive and it’s by Marte Rosario around third and Atlanta will take a two to nothing lead the normally sure-handed second baseman the allstar second baseman catel Marte misplayed that one part of the order due for Atlanta in the third against Zack Gallen after a long second inning gallon back to work 2-1 hard Smash Up the middle Bas it in the left center field Riley makes contact in a rare single form like we mention everything he’s made contact with lately has been in the gap or over the wall he’s cooking isn’t he two nothing Atlanta here’s Marcelo Zoom shattered the bat what a play by Newman they get one and two what a double play started by Kevin Newman at shortstop a diving stop and starting the 643 twin killing to end the third nobody on two outs for Christian Walker two nothing Atlanta lines that one into right center field it’s a base hit it’s going to split the Gap and roll all the way out to the wall in front of the pool it’s a two out opposite field double for Christian Walker Mareno takes outside Ball Four he’s walked twice tonight and now the tying run is at first for Jake McCarthy tail has been bending but he’s not broken yet they had the bases loaded to the first inning couldn’t score they had a runner at second base in the second inning couldn’t score and with two down here in the bottom of the third inning the Diamondbacks have him at first and second for Jake McCarthy at a strike out to start off the inning versus gritch looking for one here 02 and he will get it fast ball paint right on the outside corners and again the Diamondbacks leave men on base two nothing Atlanta as we start the bottom of the fifth top of the order do for the Dbacks they’ll face Chris Sail for a third time so here’s Randle gritch one-w pitch and he blows it by Randall gritch seven more strikeouts for Chris Sail he’s on a five game streak of seven or more strikeouts and two or fewer runs allowed this is the second time this season he’s had a streak five games or longer and no other Braves pitcher in the mod era has done that even once looking for another one here two two he’ll get it swung on and missed punched him out with a 97 mph fast ball that’s now eight strikeouts in the ball game for Chris Sail at Olsen bats left handed hitting first baseman is 0 for two strike out looking in the first and flying to right right center field nobody’s going to get to this thing out to the T-Mobile side and Matt Olson to second base with a stand up double so a runner in scoring position you also have gallon nearing 100 pitches to the left side and pass the diving Newman it will not score the run as Olen pauses at third base but another hit for Marcel Ozuna he’s two for three two on and one out for gallon and you keep waiting for toy lella to pop out of that Dugout Gallen now over 100 pitches you would have to think that either way this is the last batter that Z gallon will face as Adam Duval digs in here and Duval crushes it another no doubter Duvall got it all a long Homer and now it’s five to nothing Atlanta here in the six 441 off his back that curveball again for Zack Allen and he hung that and dual did not miss it that’ll be it for Zack gallon as he’s s running for cover here in the desert he’s on 99 pitches 105 the season high for sale as he will stay in here to face the left-handed hitting Jake McCarthy and McCarthy split the Gap go Gabby go all the way to the wall for Jake he’s going to head for third and he’s going to make it easily McCarthy the RBI triple left on left no problem for Jake McCarthy Brian Snicker will get the ball from Chris Sail but still don’t let that stick in the front of your mind another great outing for the Lefty so sail is done and here is Jesse Chavez Larez The Hitter with McCarthy down at third and one out McCarthy coming home home Riley no play at the plate Suarez gets the run home and it’s 5 to2 RBI for Gino McCarthy going on contact that’s all goo had to do is make that contact McCarthy scores a run 52 Atlanta top of the eth they have a Mana first with one out pinch hitter Eli white this ball is lifted pretty well to right field at the wall reaching up and McCarthy won’t get it heading around third for hom is Duval he will score it’s an RBI triple for Eli White and Atlanta has a six to2 Advantage good sign there the things that you are looking for from your bench pieces can they come up big in big spots and especially in P rolls into the bottom of the ninth inning Braves with a four-run lead and they’ll hand the ball to AJ Menor and the left-hander out of Texas A&M will go to work here versus the left-handed stick of Jake McCarthy slapped out towards short gobbling it up Orlando Aria and he sends out over to first base one pitch and one down needs just two more outs here’s aano Suarez ground ball to third backhand pick by Riley that is slick he sends it across the diamond two pitches two down three pitch inning let’s see I know you’re excited at the possibility the way he’s swinging oh my goodness grounder to olon Flips M steps on the bag a three pitch bottom of the nin to secure the victory the Braves have won four straight

  1. Duvall starting to get going. If this offense gets going and this pitching staff keeps pitching the way they are pitching, the whole MLB needs to look out for the Braves.

  2. Notes From the Game:

+ Not the Best Start from Chris Sale, But things didn't get out of hand until the later innings. His Final Line: 5 1/3 Innings of 2-Run, 5-Hit Ball, Walking 3 and Striking Out 9 en route to a LEAGUE-LEADING 12TH WIN OF THE SEASON! Sale Improves to 12-3 with an ERA of 2.74!

+ HOW ABOUT THE BULLPEN TONIGHT! Jesse Chavez Pitched 2 2/3 Innings and Allowed JUST ONE HIT while Striking Out 3, while A.J. MINTER GOT 3 OUTS ON THREE PITCHES IN THE 9TH! EXCELLENT JOB BY BOTH MEN!

ROTATION TOTAL: 9 Innings, 2 Runs, 6 Hits, 3 Walks, 12 Strike Outs, NO Home Runs Allowed!

The Braves' Offense CHASED Zac Gallen Off in the 6th, and added on late!

+ Sean Murphy got the Offense Started EARLY! 1-3 with an RBI Groundout in the 2nd, a Single in the 5th, and a Walk in the 8th! Murphy Steps Up to a .228 Average with an OPS of .703!

+ While Not the Best Night from Arcia, going 0-4 with 2 Ks, he DID find a Way to Contribute, Reaching on a FIELDING FAILURE when a Liner BURNED A HOLE IN KETEL MARTE'S GLOVE! Arcia clings to a .208 Average with an OPS of .570!

+ DUUUUUUVALLLL WAS STOMPIN' SOME SNAKES TONIGHT! 2-3 with a Single, Walk, and the GAME-DECISIVE 3-RUN SUPER MISSILE DEEP INTO THE LEFT FIELD SEATS! Duvall Climbs up to a .191 Average, .596 OPS, and 8 Home Runs on the Season!

+ Even Eli White took a Bite off the D-Backs Off the Bench, Hitting an RBI Triple in his ONLY AB of the Night! White stands in with a .231 Average and .846 OPS!

+ OTHER NOTABLES: Jarred Kelenic and Marcell Ozuna had 2-5 NIghts, While Albies, Riley, and Olson Notched 1 Hit Each. Riley, Duvall, and Murphy Each Recorded 1 Walk. Eddie and Arcia had 0'fer Nights, but Both Reached Base, Meaning EVERY Brave got on base tonight!

+ FOUR STRAIGHT WINS FOR THE BRAVOS! Sale Persevered, the Bullpen was PHENOMINAL, The Defense was SOLID, and the Offense kept the Pressure on the Snakes throughout the Game! An EXCELLENT Win that builds needed confidence in the Tomahawk Chop!

    – Unfortunately, The Phillies and Mets BOTH Won their Respective Games, with the Phillies CRUCIFYING Bobby Miller and the Dodgers, And the Mets NEARLY Blowing another Game against the Nationals, but somehow finding a way to escape with the W. This Keeps the Braves 7 1/2 Games Back of Philadelphia, and 6 Games Ahead of the Mets.

    TOMORROW:

ROUND 3 OF 4 Between the Braves and Diamondbacks will take place under the evening skies of Chase Field.

Surprisingly, The Diamondbacks have not announced who will start Game 3…

But the Braves have, as CHARLIE MORTON will take up Battle Stations for the Bravos, who is coming off a ROUGH Loss to the Giants, in which he allowed 4 Runs (3 Earned) on 4 Hits, Two of them Home Runs, While Walking 2 and Striking Out 5 in 5 1/3 Innings of Work.

Can MORTON and the Braves Make it FIVE-IN-A-ROW, and Secure another CRUCIAL Series Win?

Or will the Diamondbacks have a VENOMOUS Surprise waiting for the Tomahawk Chop?

We Will Find Out at 9:40 P.M. EDT / 7:40 P.M. MDT on The Arizona Diamondbacks Website, Bally Sports South (Braves), and MLB Network (Out-Of-Market ONLY)!

    SoundFX09, Signing Out!

  3. You know there have been talks about getting outfield upgrades at the trade deadline and it could be possible but Eli White and Duvall is starting to come around a little. So if that's the case then there will be no need to go get outfield help if they start hitting

  4. Braves are going to be the most dangerous wildcard team since the 23 DBacks 😂. Injuries, No excuses braves have gone in the trenches and came out with mink im loving the underdog braves.

  5. Sale has been amazing. All tonight did was prove he's human. I'm glad they didn't pull Gallen and let him face Duvall, even though I would have left him in too. I know Adam has been hot lately but he's still basically an automatic out against RHPs

  6. If they keep playing like this, the division is still up for grabs. Not saying the Phillies are gonna choke, but there's definitely a possibility this race could come down to August/September
