the wide receiver rooms for teams in the AFC South all the receivers who are likely to make the roster who gets an advantage based upon those receivers because receivers are a big deal receivers are becoming almost as highly paid as quarterbacks not quite nobody’s making F50 but there are a few making over 30 and there’s a reason for that because they’re really important if you’re going to if you’re going to invest 50 million plus or a top draft pick in a quarterback you got to have that guy uh choose them from really really good talented targets so wide receivers really important as we assess the balance of power in the AFC South then we’re going to add the starting running back the starting running backs in the AFC South are not bad they’re pretty good but does Jonathan Taylor swing the pan to power to the Colts because of what he can do in the running game and catching the ball out of the back field along with the wide receivers that populate that wide receiver room and expect to be delivered the ball by an Anthony Richardson then we’re going to talk about the game that was on TV last night from last season the Colts Rams game where you know what the stat line for Anthony Richardson not really great however if you watched that game particularly in the second half you saw plays where you went whoa even having watched it in person from The Press Box and then watching the replay that night last night I watched the same plays again and I’m with I’m with my wife Julie and I said Julie who that is what makes Anthony Richardson the kind of guy the kind of quarterback that people are saying you know what take a step up yeah just a little bit there’s a chance he could do that if he stays healthy he could be Hell on Wheels uh we’ll talk about the Indiana Fever and Caitlyn Clark she did something uh so odd in her statline today there are a lot of crooked numbers in that stat line the fever lost today they were down by a million going into the fourth quarter actually 21 they outscored the mystics by uh 16 2913 in the fourth quarter it wasn’t enough that’s the way it goes uh that’s math I promis there wouldn’t be any math they were down 21 they out scored by 16 what’s that mean they lost by how many that’s correct five did my alen Johnson impression he was my uh uh math teacher in seventh and eighth grade in Lake buff Illinois easiest to predict thing of all in maybe in US Olympic basketball team history easiest to predict thing reported today about the team we’re going to talk about Zack Edy a little bit all of a sudden he’s Ys on favored to be the Rookie of the Year in the NBA are you kidding me this is a guy who was getting dogged out by every NBA Scout that there was I don’t think he can play I don’t think he moves well enough I don’t think he’s going to be able to defend anybody I don’t blah blah blah blah and a blah blah now he’s OD on favor to win the the Rookie of the Year of course he is why because people who think they know what’s going to happen in basketball a lot of times they don’t know anything about what’s going to happen in basketball uh Pacers summer league play is going to start on Friday Cubs tonight in about whatever else you got dlan G whoever else with the Texans you’ve got Collins Diggs Dell and brown o look at their Pro Football Focus uhoh helicopters they’re coming it’s like Good Fellas hey get down uh look at the rankings on Pro Football Focus of the Texans wide receivers Nico Collins number three tank down number 15 Stefan Diggs when he was playing for the bills number 21 Noah Brown number 42 that’s four in the top 50 that’s pretty damn good how do the Colts line up uh the Colts they got Pitman at 27 Downs at 49 Pierce at 96 and the rookie ad Mitchell who ran a 43440 uh then we’re talking about the Titans and with the Titans you’ve got DeAndre DeAndre Hopkins who at the age of 32 is going to try to continue to be as great as he’s been up until that point he was number 18 last year Calvin Ridley 47 Tyler Boyd 91 he’s going to be 30 trayon Burks number 118 the Jaguars their wide receiver group ranked number 25 Colts 22 by the way Texans 5 and Titans 12 a lot of numbers again don’t mean to burden you with with more and more math um Christian Kirk 48 Gabe Davis 61 Brian Thomas the rookie out of LSU who I love I think he’s really good uh 43340 by the way in the combine and de D Devon duver who came over from the Ravens who never really lived up he he was taken in the third so it wasn’t like he didn’t live up to his draft position but he he was a guy who you thought based on what he did in college this is a guy who’s going to be a little bit better in the NFL he has not been so you look at that did you know that like Jonathan Taylor last year only played 10 games but he averaged about 75 yards a game so he projected over the course of 17 games to gain uh 12259 yards that would have been nice he didn’t do that obviously um because he only played those 10 games then you’ve got Mixon and Mixon uh gained just over uh 1,000 yards Pard for the Titans Pard replaces Hen Henry just over a th000 at 1,5 and uh ettien for the Jags just over at 108 anyway I’m getting I’m getting ahead of myself the quarterbacks are affected by the wide receivers and the wide receivers are uh affected by the quarterbacks the offensive line is affected by the quarterback and has a direct effect on the quarterback which also affects the wide receivers everything’s interconnected in the NFL on either side of the ball either on the off they’re all interconnected if you have a bad secondary you’re going to have a defensive line that has a tough time amassing great sack totals because people are open if you have a great secondary it makes a defensive ends look really good if you have great defensive ends that can make a a rough back end of the defense look a little bit better you get what I’m saying it’s all interconnected Richardson’s success is going to be driven in part by the ability of the wide receivers to create open looks for Richardson just as the receivers for the Texans did that for CJ strout CJ strout had a really nice rookie year but if not for Nico Collins how good would it be that first play from scrimmage that we lament from week 18 again and again and again and again and again you know what w without Nico Collins getting over on the CT secondary Stroud can’t make that throw and without strad making that throw ni Collins doesn’t go 75 yards to the hzy it’s just that simple it’s all interconnected so when you add the running back to the mix of the Weaponry is Jonathan Taylor enough to Goose that Colts group into the top Echelon of the AFC South or you know with Pard a part of the conference now eten and Mixon do they does Mixon what’s he got left in the tank is he going to bring up that receiver group for the Texans or is his inability to create yardage if there is an inability to create yardage is that going to have a negative effect on the wide receivers it’s a fascinating year in the AFC South I I can’t wait to see how all this plays out again Anthony Richardson throwing the ball that he threw to Mo Ali Cox for the first touchdown against Rams Colts down 23 nothing and Richardson’s like let’s go boys Bing on a like a slant hits and and a a deeper slant hits Mo Ali Cox in stride Mo puts his shoulder down gets into the end zone a little bit later he hits Alec Pierce he’s getting chased and just kind of wings it right where it’s got to be uh Anthony Richardson that night 11 to 25 for 200 yards you say man what that’s say Downs yikes this and that offensive line coming back intact with two tackles among the best 10 in the game maybe the best pass blocking Center in the game and two guards who who won should be great Quenton Nelson and the other one he good enough in will Fri this offense could be spectacular let’s talk about the fever fever losers today what are they doing anyway they dug a hole they one Kelsey Mitchell hit all of her shots inside the ark six of them missed all eight from outside the arc that’s basketball uh Aaliyah Boston 6.6 rebounds not a great day for her Clark 29 Points five boards 13 assists five of nine from three so she hit five three-pointers she had five rebounds also five steals also five turnovers and five fouls and man I wish she’d had five blocks but she only had
