2024 San Jose Sharks Draft Recap – 6/29/2024 – Teal Town USA

best sharks draft class ever and with that the 2024 NHL draft is now complete I throw it over to Ian Mark and Jules to talk about the picks for the Sharks through this crazy 2-day event in Vegas so guys I’m going back to sleep lots of Trades to [Laughter] announce but of course if you want to be part of the show hit us up on all the social media platforms hit us up on tealtown usa.com leave a like on this video if you’re watching it after the fact leave a comment with your thoughts on the events of the two weeks but we have a lot to get into so we are going to get into it unfortunately it is just me and Jules Mark uh unfortunately had couldn’t be here uh last minute change so uh we we will miss Mark being here but me and Jules will try and hold it down and say smart things and do all the things right that’s how this works Jules it uh it was a long weekend how are you doing how are you uh how was the sphere the sphere is [ __ ] amazing like genuinely like the like the NHL I think did a really good job with this um like it they had such cool effects um and the first night at least for the first part of the draft we were sitting pretty high up um like those effects are so cool um the sphere is so nice if you ever have a chance to go to the sphere would highly recommend in NHL do more events at this year it’s cool but Vegas was too hot so Vegas was too hot yes that’s uh that is what they say Obviously um sharks made a bunch of picks a bunch of good picks bunch of good picks yeah a bunch like I really I’m really really happy with this draft class before we really uh get in DET jerk happy before we really get into this here um how what is your overall thoughts on on the draft class for the Sharks without before we get super into the weeds I know there was like one or two where I was like like typically with a sharks draft I’m just gonna be honest there’s at least three picks where I’m like what the [ __ ] are we doing here um sometimes more depending on like the draft and everything um but like I’ve really didn’t have any of those and the ones I did like once I did more research on the players I was like oh this is a good pick I like this let’s see where this goes you know what I mean so I think overall like we have to GRE give Greer some credit here he revamped this blue line Y and I I love this draft class like I think the sharks at like I could probably count three steals that I think they’ve for sure got um but yeah how about you what’s your thoughts I’m really good on it um I mean I know that people are still a little questioning the Sam Dickinson over Z Willam and I get it I I think I get it but I think at the same time I think the caution that I have there is like I really like Willam too like Willam was like the number one defenseman on my list but I think that because I didn’t think leov was going to be in there so I didn’t have linov ranked as far as guys that I thought the Sharks may have a chance at if everything kind of aligned per purfectly but like I think what I would caution people on is like not to let their disappointment over boam sour their take on Sam Dickinson who I think is a hell of a defenseman I think he’s going to be just a great like he’s gonna he he has the potential to be you know a top pair defenseman uh in the future on this team so I think that’s the thing that I think I would caution people on I understand being a little upset Z Willam a lot more Dynamic of a defenseman and we’ll definitely get into this a little more when we get to the picks but I would caution people on letting their disappointment sour them too much on Sam Dickinson who I think is really really good I do not think Sam Dickinson would be available I I was for for those who don’t know I’ve been on the Z buam trade basically for the whole time and people were making jokes last night that I was on life support because of it wink wink jerk um but like I I didn’t think either of those two guys were going to be available so to have the choice between them to me is already a win for the sharks so yeah and fips and fips bringing up an interesting thing in the chat here too saying that per free Bo had the same agent as uh as cutter go and that’s why teams were scared I think you know interes there’s been a lot of obviously like we talk about the Russian Factor like when are we gonna start talking about the Thea factor factor right but I feel like I feel like that’s a conversation no one wants to have because the second the second you you you bring that up what the conversation immediately changes to well the RFA systems basically indentured servitude at slavery and like the the conversation quickly changes whenever you bring up that you know Russians are divas but when an American does it oh well you know that yeah yeah I mean same same thing right like same thing there like the NCAA you also have that risk of the player just not wanting to sign on your team yep like it’s that simple it it is that simple uh so I’m just gonna throw up a quick screen here I mean these were all the first round picks looking at these at the first round was there anything that surprised you um I obviously probably Beck at senak being third overall was the big surprise the the ducks have so many prospects I understood the swing on that um again I still believe you should go BPA like all the time um jet lenko was a guy who I I liked jet I thought he was a good player um but I just I didn’t think it was a top 15 pick in my opinion okay flyers I I didn’t really love that pick from them other than that I mean from the top 15 I I liked all of them and I kind of that’s kind of the way I saw it playing out for the most part except for Becket who kind of I think if Becka doesn’t go third I don’t think Dickinson or uh falls to the sharks so yeah all right fair enough um so let’s get down I mean obviously the Sharks picked first overall they got mlin celebrini I’m not gonna spend a ton of time on melin celebrini let’s let’s be honest mlin celebrini is a guy who probably goes first overall uh in pretty much any recent draft with the exception of the Connor Bard draft um he is one of the most complete players to get drafted in a long time like you know a lot of guys have like Elite this Elite that like he’s got Elite lots of things yeah for for M celebrini right like he again he gives and I said this before he’s a guy you win a cup with like again look at Florida look at the team they have look at barov like barov is not going to light up the league in points per se but like Greer says he does all the little things you know to make count and he’s defensively responsible and I think you’re getting a similar type of player I know everyone wants to compare to Crosby I’m not going to do that but I I think you’re getting an overall Elite Center um and I think the onew punch of him and Smith is going to feed the sharks for 10 to 15 years here yeah I mean like the player comps like you gotta like the player comps when people like compare them to like Jonathan taas who I think is incredibly underrated yeah like um you know syby Sydney I think that’s like that’s that’s a kind of a lofty comparison just because like Sydney Crosby Sydney Crosby um but I mean if melin CBR can get close to that I mean that’s uh that that is a nice place for the Sharks to beat um SBR is your tase and Smith is your Kane I’m not saying Smith is Pat Kane I’m just saying but like you know what I mean like you need those one two stars to win a cup it seems like you know what I mean like barkov kachuck um McKinnon ranton or mckinn m whatever you want to put it out there you know what I mean yeah um I like like I was looking through like obviously like we we like our draft guides leite prospects draft guides and like they they give attribute ratings for players and so for mlin celebrini uh and these are out of nine by the way they gave his skating a seven his shooting an eight his passing an eight his Puck handling an eight his hockey sense an eight and his physical play a six which is like that’s fine that’s the most well-rounded player you’re ever gonna find as a 17-year-old I I genuinely like it he’s just over and I think and I I’m going to say this I think during the prospect scrimmage there’s going to be a gap between celebrini and the rest he is going to make some of the Sharks prospects look bad um you know what I mean but yeah no there he’s just I don’t know what else we can say about this man he’s great and he’s a shark and he’s wearing 71 because of other moves the sharks made today which might should I don’t know they bought out Ken off but yeah yeah I mean so I mean for mlin C obviously now the question is is does he turn pro I think when it’s all said and done he does um but I mean obviously the what he what has been said so far obviously repeatedly has been you know he’s gonna he’s gonna talk to his people his people are gonna talk to Mike Greer’s people they we’ll all come together and decide we should probably sign this guy because you have nothing left to prove in the NCAA yeah so I mean I think he’s there it’s going to be I’m I’m Fant like I’m super excited for for mlin celebrini but feel like mlin celebrini gets gets all the talk and I feel like say anything that you haven’t already heard about mlin celini I mean everything that I just said is probably something you’ve heard ad nauseum about this guy so uh mlin celebrini first overall future of the franchise it’s great and I’m super excited uh which brings us to also in the first round 11th overall uh Canadian Sam Dickinson left shooting defenseman uh from the London night my favorite team kns uh six feet tall 197 pounds shoots left um he was ranked uh as high as three by mckin and button and Ferrari from the uh hockey use had him as low as 10 uh average ranking was about eighth uh he should have not at 11 that’s yeah player comparable um some people compare his game to no Han I think player comps are a Fool’s errand and I don’t put a ton of stock into them but I think if you want to like I think they’re still helpful for people at like maybe a few say like oh Gap control and blah blah blah blah blah and some people are like what well he plays like Noah hand oh okay I like yeah I get it right um and I see like I see that like I see the Noah Hanahan and him where so here’s the thing with Sam Dickinson and I think it kind of gets overshadowed cuz buam was on the board M um and like if you ask anyone at the draft was having like heart palpitations I think during that time so like I get like us wanting buam and I I mean this in like Sam Dickinson is everything the NHL wants in a defenseman he’s probably one of the safer picks from the defenseman yeah like he’s like he’s going to be probably if an NHL top four defenseman yes he has some flaws but everyone but celebrini has flaws in this draft there’s always going to be that question with him um he’s a 63 monster um Can does kind of everything he does need to improve a little bit on his defensive side he does need to become more consistent but like the fact that he was available at 11 is just not fair like Greer even kind of said it himself he was a little shocked he was there he’s one of the safer picks in this draft and he’s just he’s going to be a monster for us for years to come yeah um I think like so some of the some of the things that are um future considerations who ranked him six said this about him uh they said he’s a defenseman known for his balance approach to the game uh very reliable consistent on the ice his sturdy frame and physical physicality enable him to excel in both defensive and offensive roles Ian he put up a ton of points for London um making him a valuable asset in all situations his ability to make positive contributions across the all area of play uh sets them apart U as a Dependable presence on the blue line Elite prospects also says he has all the tools necessary to be a number one guy in the NH yeah he just has to put it together right um um but even if he doesn’t I think you’re getting a probably a top four like you’re getting an NHL defenseman let’s put it that way even if even if the whatever doesn’t come together doesn’t come together I I still think you’re getting uh an NHL defenseman and again like he he has a potential to be number one now should the Sharks just stop drafting Dem man no um but like great pick right there yeah um look at and like obviously like there are concerns in his game uh there was a little bit of concern that sometimes um he can make some inconsistent reads in the defensive end of the you know uh defensive end of the puck and he can sometimes get on the wrong side of his check um but he’s you know he he does a lot of really good things um there just some questions with his Puck management skills obviously um using the uh Elite prospects at tribute ratings again again these are out of nine uh they gave him a 7.5 in skating a six in shooting a five in passing five in Puck handling five in hockey sense and a 6.5 uh as a phys physical um presence I think I have a thing here I’m trying to keep an eye on the chat but let me see what I have here for um yeah I mean London Knights um now this team was an absolute wagon but he was a big part of it right uh this is a team that won the OHL Championship um played 18 games uh sorry played 68 games scored 18 goals 52 assist 70 points um now again a very stacked London team um the think in play his stats in the playoffs are pretty decent too yeah 18 games four goals nine assists like big points in the playoffs right 13 points 12 penalty minutes uh plus 11 he was like plus 56 in the regular season um and in the Memorial Cup he was you know two goals two assists and a plus six I mean big big big part of that London team that was very very good yeah and uh he’s familiar with Casper hton so that’s true you know I mean like listen this this is a steal like I don’t know how else to put it this is an absolute steal by the Sharks I I’m I’m shocked he didn’t go in the top 10 um I think teams are going to regret that and um sher’s got themselves probably a number number one or number two defenseman here so yeah 100% I mean to be that to play that bigger role on a team that good at that age I mean that’s imp really good um someone asked when does he make it to the NHL um Skyler did I think he goes back to Junior definitely and then maybe he how old is Sam um is he 19 two years a junior left no he’s okay yeah so he probably goes he he unless he makes the Sharks his second year he probably goes back for uh to Juniors for two years and then goes for the Cuda and then yeah I give him like a three three three and a half year window I think yeah yeah no that sounds about right like that’s I then that I I don’t have a ton of like that’s that’s my best guess just based on because defenseman generally take a little bit more time um to come over I think yeah you know um Sam Dickinson might have better numbers since Bon was the primary demon on the pp he might I mean he’s gonna obviously as as like that team ages like he’s gonna get more opportunities um to to Really step in and be the to be the guy in London so it it wouldn’t shock me if he has a huge year this year um depending on what happens with Bon and I don’t know how old Bon is at the moment but you know what I mean so yeah uh so yeah I mean I I’m really happy I understand like again I understand the disappointment about Z William but I really like Sam Dickinson I think it was I think he was third on my list I had Z William I think I had Zayn perck as my two and then Sam Dickinson was my three Zan perk was already off the board um yeah yeah I I had Dickinson a little low just cuz it feels like a very safe pick but again I’m not mad about this yeah uh Ricky saying um I don’t know anything about goalies but the names weren’t on anyone’s board your podcast that I’ve seen yet milost we got our number one and three quarter goalie is our goalie scouting just busted this is the first draft with Ryan Miller we’ll get there yeah we’ll get there I don’t I don’t think it’s busted I don’t think it’s busted I just think this isn’t a good goalie draft yeah yeah yeah yeah we we’ll get there though in in due time I promise uh round two 33rd overall which is the first pick of the second round Ste the this is a steal absolutely uh the Sharks draft left wi eigor chernishov chernishov I don’t know man 63 204 shoots left obviously um people compare him to pavl bunevich uh with Russian players obviously you always want to know what their contract is M um his contract is next season and then he is that’s the end of his contract so he could be on the Barracuda as soon as next not this season coming but the season after which I think is always fun um he was ranked as high as 13th uh and I think mckin was the lowest on them they had him at 38 average ranking of 18 um future considerations who had him at 14th go ahead this is kind of random but the Sharks now have two comparables to pavl bich musty was also compared to Cav bav again I think player comps are like as [ __ ] but um no but this is an absolute steal I remember we were watching him on the Discord and I was like maybe the Sharks should consider him at 14 like he’s a guy that I wouldn’t it’s a mat pick at 14 for sure um like it wouldn’t be my Top Choice there at 14 but I was like maybe they should go for him at 14 and and the fact that he fell to 33 I beyond my knowledge what GMS are on today um this is a steel like the the guy the guy is going to be an NHL player he’s going to be good um and again I think he also has kind of like Dickinson a lot of upside to him like he could probably be a top six forward if everything works out here yeah so future considerations said he’s a physically imposing power forward known for his excellent skating ability and robust presence on the ice um skillfully uses his attributes to dominate transitions with uh and maintain quick Puck control um Elite prospects says that you know he’s basically he’s your prototypical modern uh Power Forward who can beat you with both hard and soft skills um he’s the kind of player that teams want on their rosters he’s a pain to play against yeah like he’s he’s this guy like you know he’s he’s playing over in the over in Russia right now but this guy like everyone says like basically has a game built for North America um like he he’s going to be good and I cannot believe he’s the Sherk just fell into the laps of U chinnov and maybe we found sber a friend you know I don’t think he will end up being sbr’s friend I mean I don’t mean that in a bad way I mean like on Ice wise I just realized my hat’s blending in with the green screen but um you know what I mean so yeah a good pick yeah you know um basically this is a guy who obviously um Let me throw the I have a screen for him I’m sure uh let me throw that up boom uh you know this is a guy who was playing in the uh KHL and the MHL which is the lower U the younger League over in Russia when he was at playing at the junior level I mean just completely dominant numbers over there 1.27 points per game average um as you can see on the screen here you know uh 28 points in 22 games uh in the KHL he played a lot of bottom six minutes but still looked pretty pretty good even though like the points aren’t there but I think you have to remember like when these guys when these young guys are playing in the in these higher leagues they don’t get the same ice time and opportunities that they’re getting uh in their Junior League so um I always people always get kind of nervous about numbers when it comes to like it’s like oh this guy had three points in Lia what are we doing and it’s like yeah but you have it’s it’s a situation where the points don’t really tell the story in my opinion uh Elite prospects uh attribute rankings again uh from 1 to nine uh they gave his skating a 5.5 his shooting a 5.5 is passing a five his Puck handling a 6.5 his hockey sense a 5.5 and his physical play a 6.5 um concerns with his game are um his overall playmaking kind of Drew mixed reviews um he missed opportunities to utilize his teammates but also showcased above average vision from time to time having awareness to turn broken plays into um quick feeds to the S and even splash the manipulative ability so um obviously they want to I think his where they like him to improve a little bit obviously is a little more of his offensive awareness using his teammates and I think that’s something that you can coach that is definitely something um you can coach 100% I again I’ve said this again the first three picks of this draft were just amazing so good job good job sharks yeah so trov he had like a he he from what I read uh in my in all my my reading and and stuff to try and get ready for this show um yeah basically from what I read he’s playing basically bottom six minutes so yeah no he is yeah got a Super Chat my God Super Chat 499 obviously when you hit a Super Chat we Hammer the brakes on and uh let’s get this in man how amazing that Vegas got the racist Conelly for that trash organization yeah I mean if it wasn’t for the off ice issues Connelly I hate to say it is like a talent-wise the guy’s easily top five yeah it’s it’s he’s a kid too right like I like I just I think that hopefully he grows up I think that’s what you I mean that’s what you would hope right you hope the guy grows up but you have to give him the opportunity to do so so yeah we’ll see what happens but yeah that’s that’s my thought we’ll see we’ll see how it goes but uh so that brings us to the 53rd overall pick in the second round that brings us to defenseman left shooting defenseman Leo Salin well wenus wenus yeah wenus or yeah six foot uh 183 pounds I don’t know if you’re noticing a trend here yeah this draft okay Ian please stay the line because Felix is also waiting for it oh what what I gotta go what are you what are they feeding these kids what what are they feeding these kids we got into like the later rounds and like guys are like oh this guy’s 67 this guy’s 66 like I’m like how many guys are six7 in this draft what this draft just hated small like under if you’re 5’11 you’re unless you’re like Berkeley Caden and maybe a few others you’re going later like sixth seventh round like mirlan like who’s a big dude himself don’t get me wrong but his son is like six s like what are they feeding these children yeah yeah no there you go what are they yeah there’s definitely a trend with the sharks picks um I think the thing here with uh obviously with Swedish players the something that we do have to point out though is they are subject to the shl NHL transfer agreement he is a second round pick so you can’t bring him over and put him on the Barracuda until he is 24 years old which is something to consider uh with shl pixes like it it’s an NHL or bust situation for them unfortunately yeah um so that’s something that you have to you have to bear in mind here it’s kind of like Matas havid came from uh a couple draft has six players drafted z67 Jesus Christ I I don’t what steroids steroids didn’t Boston get like Dean yeah they got Dean LNO who’s a 6 foot s Center they’re gonna make him the like coming of Patrice berson right there craziness uh okay so um well like he’s he’s an interesting guy he was uh his highest ranking was 29 by button and Elite prospects had him the lowest at 69 his average uh ranking was about 40 um he’s an offensively leading Puck moving defenseman known for his strong transitional abilities and smart decision making uh excels at moving the puck up the ice utilizing his vision and timing to make precise passes rather than forcing risky stretch plays uh in the offensive zone he’s a versatile facilitator Adept at moving across the blue line and making well-time shots passes to generate scoring opportunities um Elite prospects said that basically this is a guy who kind of subverts expectations he looks you look at his profile and you think like he’s like a a high-end um a high-end offensive defenseman but not really the case more of a more of a two-way guy transitional guy what I did hear is’s an amazing skater like he’s a really good skater and I don’t know if you’re starting to notice a trend here but the sharks are drafting really good skating defensemen right now like their last few defensive have just been really good skaters I I like banies he’s a guy that I thought the Sharks might take at 3 early on in the year I thought they might shoot for him at 33 um again High upside could work could not um but he definitely not I wouldn’t say he’s a defensive defenseman um yeah despite despite his point totals I mean 40 points in 43 games but that’s kind of like what they say he kind of defensive um Elite specs uh their one to n rankings they gave him a six for skating five shooting five passing five Puck handling 4.5 hockey sense and a five physical um they some concerns obviously or obviously he’s he’s on the smaller end of the defensive scale so um usually guys need a little more D you know usually need to be a little more Dynamic to stick in the NHL um so he’s uh he’ll have to really kind of work work on his um basically keeping his game mistake free um and keeping his you know keeping his transition game strong as he progresses through the uh levels of hockey but again like you look at the numbers you’re really good um for the u20 team oh yeah not bad good pick I think the sharks like top four picks this year we’re just I think we can all agree they are on point like they they are on point yeah meenus is similar to forsling from Florida oh I mean if he turns into gustoff forsing he turns into gusta forsling I’m gonna be bowing down to Mike Greer no doubt like Jesus Christ um but yeah anyway sorry go for um yeah so that that is uh that is our second round pick moving on to the 82nd overall pick in the draft still in round two uh the Sharks drafted Carson wetch uh 6’2 2011 pound shoots right he is a right winger um I think the highest had him mckin had him at 62 as their highest recruit scouting had him at 110 as the lowest ranking and about an average about 73 uh future considerations who had him at 75 says that he’s a power forward with Pro ready habits characterized by his ability to read and adapt quickly to plays uh very very aware of what’s going on around him uh especially as the break especially on a breakout like he just kind of pulls through people um he also played with sbini till sbini moved to San Jose um to play with the junior sharks so he’s that’s all I’m gonna say to that one but he has played with sbini before so maybe G is getting more of sbr’s friends over to the Bay um I’m joking about that but um no again bottom six he’s basically your prototype bottom six forward in the NHL and I think he’s probably gonna be that um he’s a type of guy that I’m sure Greer is gonna love because he’s gonna be hard on his for check probably smash someone a few times a game um and there you go yeah uh Elite prospects who had a ranked at 96 said that they expected him to go higher than where he was um taken just because of his hard-hitting fast moving ways um he was uh he was one of you know they they say that he was one of Calgary’s best players this season Calgary Hitman were not very good this year um long powerful strides with long uh crossovers launch well ped opponents um he likes to take the puck straight to the net um and he has no fear of shooting the puck that’s good um concerns are sometimes he forces outside um drives um if there isn’t a clear Lane sometimes he likes to skate himself out of room because he likes to try and go through people um sometimes he can lack awareness for defensive uh gaps in team making and teammate sorry uh playmaking flashes are few and far between though physical he’s not consistently winning inside positioning or confident making uh plays inside contact um that’s from Elite prospects um and the uh future considerations uh concerns included that his agility needs Improvement while not an awful StraightLine skater his mobility and Agility often caus him to lose assignments when opponents make a quick turn uh the attributes rankings again from one to nine from Elite prospects they gave him a six for skating a five for shooting a four for passing a 4.5 for Puck handling a four for hockey sense and a six for physical play yeah he’s again he’s going to be your bottom six that def not defenseman Jesus your bottom six forward and uh GRE is going to absolutely love him yeah Skyler says feels like an Aussie wise placement I mean Ethan Cardwell already did that but we’ll see you can never have that many Aussie wise blats I love Aussie wisl I’m so sad all right yeah yeah good it yeah I don’t think I threw the banner up here is the this is the last one I have for him so uh those his point totals he also played in the he also played for Team Canada at the under 18 World Junior Championships where he uh also had some points there as well uh and Team Canada seems to be very they they very much like him so uh that brings us to number 116th overall in the fourth round and then we have our first goalie taken uh and it is Christian kersch of Switzerland he is a 6 foot4 174 pound goalie who catches laugh what are they feeding these kids I don’t know um so he wasn’t ranked by very many people um which for goalies doesn’t really surprise me that much um this was also the pick that they they got for Aiden Hill yeah so he better hit um better hit this draft and goalies I was not sold on any of these kids yeah but from what I’ve read this guy might be a tad bit underrated it feels like like there might be some sleeper potential here um you like there might be some sleeper potential here again I wasn’t a huge fan of them taking goalies but apparently this guy was the number one on their board which should probably show you the goalie class of this year or The Scouting Department pick which one pick whichever one you want to go down um yeah again I’m fine with it goalies are voodoo magic you never know what is gonna happen with them yeah so here here let’s let’s talk about this guy here uh he His Highest he was only ranked by like four scouting Services uh future considerations had him at 119 uh mckin had him at 226 draft prospects had him at 133 and recruit scouting had him at 200 um he is committed to the uh University of Massachusetts uh he’ll also be coming over to the United States next year and playing in the USHL for the green gay gamblers so those are all things that you would like to see and committed to UMass so yeah commit to you Mass so we gotta we got to F fill the quota um future considerations said kers is a sizable goal tender with notable Speed and Agility in the creased he generate strength well allowing him to move efficiently within the blue paint often using Big T pushes and solid fly movements uh Kish excels at Puck tracking keeping his eyes locked onto the puck and finding tights sight lines through traffic with ease well his movement on his feet is his strength his rebound control can be inconsistent and um his rvh transitions um need a little bit of work on the glove side yeah I mean worth a shot again fourth round goalies are voodoo like I uh this is fine I I here’s the though okay now again this is this is the under 20 Swiss league so I’m not sure how great the under 20 Swiss league is but in 30 games played won 22 games lost five uh overtime loss of one had a 232 um save percent or goals against average uh and three shadows uh in the playoffs in additional 11 games one seven uh three losses one uh I don’t three 73 and one I don’t know why you’d have one in the playoff but uh 217 safe percentage his overall safe percentage between the playoffs and the um and the regular season was a 910 which is pretty good not it’s better than the Sharks drafting like CHL goalies with a below 900 so there you go he did play for team Switzerland in the um under 18 World Junior Championships now obviously Switzerland is not a hockey power uh he won one game lost three uh 359 goals against average 872 save percentage not terrible I mean again you know I I think you kind of got to take that number with a grain of salt because again Switzerland is not is is a second tier power in hockey yeah so they’re gonna get absolutely thumped by like teams like the US and Sweden and Finland and Canada like there’s just they’re gonna get thumped right um so but I mean the numbers are good and it’s not like the one thing with the sharks that they they always did and I’m glad that we finally saw an into it is it’s not a CHL goalie with a Sub 900 save percentage Yeah no like they’ve stopped drafting like the below 900 I’m curious I know I’ve said this I’m curious how much Ryan Miller had a say in this yeah because I’m curious if when we when Ryan Miller comes in how much we either see the goal tending improve and I think we’ve already seen it improve with a guy like Thomas spear coaching black would like I’m curious how this guy and the other guy will get two pans out um just because we’ve stopped it finally drafting goalies out of the CHL with a below 900 thank you Mason bit and Ben cadro but you know what I mean and Ben cadro like the one thing I’ll say about benro in the Sharks defense was that team Canada loved him too to the point where they put him on their under 20 World Junior Team yeah right so I mean obviously like a lot he fooled a lot more than just the Sharks yeah he fooled a lot of people he he definitely fooled a lot of people and there was talk like you know he was one of the top goalie prospects back in 21 is that when he was drafted yeah 21 So like um you know again I’m glad we’ve stopped that Trend and you know again voodoo magic 18-year-old goalies even more I’m they’re feeding these kids like who knows what at this point so like you know what I mean like he might grow to be 6’6 like you never know with goalies I think this is fine and uh hopefully he better win the vzna because we traded Aiden Hill for him so I I’m at least like I’m at least intrigued by this pick if nothing else I’m intrigued no even and bullpit were just bad like I don’t know what they were just bad picks they were just bad picks which they were just bad picks like this one this one I at least see a road you know what I mean like I I I’m really I’m really interested to see how they look at Prospect scrimmage and I’m going to be saying that a lot tonight because Prospect scrimmage doesn’t necessarily have a lot of Defense being played um so yeah yeah I’m curious again like I’m I’m curious to see how he fares in the USHL next year because I think that’ll be a big that’ll be a big thing USHL on the come up uh all right so um that brings us to uh number one I just want to say something in the chat Elite Eckland I’m assuming this is related to the Sharks drafting if you are not playing in massachusett Sweden or London I don’t think you’re getting drafted by the S sharks [Music] ah anyways sorry yeah um all right so in 131st overall in the fifth round we uh move on to Colton Roberts a right shooting defenseman uh from a Canadian uh 64 205 pounds again do you notice a trend uh highest franked was um hockey news is Ryan Kennedy had him at 59th and lowest was recruit scouting at 107 average ranking of about 87 um future considerations had I met uh 30 oh I 130 um Roberts possesses a mix of promising and concerning elements to his game he possesses NHL ready size and demonstrates impressive Pace up and down the ice maximizing his stride yet he exhibits some stiffness when moving laterally defensively he uses his size and Mobility to create separation and secure uh clear looks for Outlook passes but his passing can lack Precision while Roberts wields a long stick and disrupts plays with physicality he tends to Puck watch allowing opponents to slip behind him in the defensive Zone Roberts shows POS solid positioning instincts staying engaged with the play and darting back door for scoring chances uh Elite prospects had him at 79 they said that he is one of the most uh exciting but biggest blue line projects very raw uh yeah has any he brings NHL caliber skating with plenty of flashes of skill but hasn’t quite put all the pieces together do you notice a trend but one thing’s for certain he has home run potential uh in their one to n rankings they have his skating at 5.5 his shooting at five his passing at five his Puck handling at 4.5 hockey sense at four and his physical play at six um yeah again I like the pick um I do get concerned when the Sharks go for like a super raw talent though because I feel like their history of developing defenseman is not great I mean look at Michael fer but Michael Fischer did have injuries I will say that so yeah because I think like a lot of people like a lot of people like oh man the sharks they could have drafted Keandre Miller and I always my always response to that is but would the sharks have been able to put him in together because I feel like kandre Miller obviously a higher caliber of player when he was drafted but still also big questions of could he put it all together like a ton of raw skill but could he put it all together and I don’t so I have questions I again with the new management I’m kind of like let’s see what happens here because they haven’t with the new scouting director you know what I mean I’m assuming there’s some new Scouts there like and like Player Development stuff I want to see what happens I’m not opposed to this pick I think if he hits he hits like and he’s he’s gonna he’ll be really good if he hits and the Sharks right d kind of lacking I’m gonna be real so not mad about this pick good pick and uh again we’ll see if he can put it together yeah uh some some quick stats here 62 games played for the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League uh seven goals 20 assists 27 points 49 penalty minutes A minus 30 yikes uh playoffs five five games played one assist eight penalty minutes minus three um I don’t think again I Vancouver was a oneone team in the playoffs um again I I’m intrigued it’s a fifth round pick right we’re we’re we’re now we’re in that spot in the draft where shoot some darts and a lot of guys don’t make it so I’m not like super you know I’m not like I I I have a hard time getting angry at like fifth round picks and Beyond as far as anything but yeah I mean it’s it’s an intriguing uh it’s an intriguing pick for sure yeah uh round five 143rd overall brings us to another right shot defenseman uh Nate MSY uh who is a good need to point out that he was a D+ one uh player which means that this is his second year of draft eligibility so he’s wasn’t ranked by a ton of services because a lot of guys once their they pass their first year of Eligibility Services generally don’t keep scouting them um he ranked uh he was ranked 90 on Elite prospects 83 on mckin uh the daily Faceoff had him at 103 and future considerations had him at 211 um Elite Prospect says that uh basically they they said that even though uh he played only he had a shorten season by two months because of an injury uh he just keeps getting better um he steadily rose up the Victoria Royals depth chart holding down big minutes in the second half um took significant step in every facet of his game this season even an injury that sidelined him for two months couldn’t stop him uh stop his Skyrock development uh there are physical Defenders and there are players like misy enter his space expect to pay the price he throws crushing hits along the boards vicious cross checks Around the Net and always sneaks in an extra shot uh just nasty Ricky Ricky put putting out a really good point mkey had the lowest goals against per 60 in the entire league when he was on the ice his team got scored on average one goal less this might be a steal yeah I’m just gonna throw that out there like projectable playoff ready defensive game upward trajectory flashes of offense that Pro um that’s the promise of MSY if he continues to improve his defensive skating and pivots he could play in a bottom pairing role and there’s always a chance for more as he improves his games uh they’re one to n rankings uh four for skating five for shooting five for passing four for Puck handling five for hockey sense and 6.5 for physical which again again like a for for a late round pick um I I like this man a guy who could be a late bloomer which definitely are things that uh some players just late bloom late right yeah for sure I mean listen it’s the fifth round here I’m not going to be poking pins and needles for this um but I think this guy again like the other guy has a lot of upside and like if he plays like a full season for you you’re happy with this pick like if he’s if he’s a serviceable NHL defenseman you are happy with this pick especially on the right side um and yeah so for Victoria he played 44 games this season because again he did miss some time to injury uh scored seven goals had 27 assists for 34 points had 54 penalty minutes was plus 11 on a not great team uh they got swept in the playoffs uh he had one goal two assists uh and two penalty minutes and was even uh in the plus minus So speaking to what Ricky uh said there earlier um and that brings us to the final pick of the uh sharks draft class is 194 uh 194th overall in round seven uh the Sharks took a yaroslav klav coret I man I’m sorry Russian people and it’s not yaros hak before excited um he is a 6 foot2 168 pound goalie from Russia obviously um he catches left um he has some decent numbers here again right like he doesn’t have a ton of body of work but in not great situation he performed quite well um he was he started the season ska unor I’m again Russians I’m sorry uh pror uh where he played 16 games uh eight wins eight losses but his goals against average were 3.07 but a 931 save percentage and two shut outs yeah I saw this kid I saw his stats and I was like oh that’s a fun pick for the seventh round and apparently the Sharks had him at like two or three on their board like uh he moved to for 1946 uh St Petersburg uh where he played six more games uh he won four of them uh lost two in overtime a 216 goal gain average 936 save percentage another shut out uh played one game in the playoffs which he lost um 3.88 uh goals against average for a sa percentage of 818 but again that’s a single game so green assault again like I don’t mind the gold they took like I know this wasn’t a goalie draft trust me I know but like these two apparently they’re one and two or whatever are perfectly fine and I don’t mind it because it’s not like bluntly obvious that there’s no path here yeah like the seventh and again this is a seventh round pick seventh round picks like I know I know Joe pavelski was a seventh round pick and right but you know the vast majority of seventh round picks aren’t Joe Pavel so I I feel like it’s an interesting swing this late in the draft it’s it’s really it’s hard to get it’s hard thing to be offended about right like yeah it’s fine it’s a seventh round pick we’re not it’s intriguing again it’s it’s hard to base it that’s not a huge body of work yeah so it’s hard to really like be like wow that’s but I mean those numbers are pretty silly for for the body of work consider like eight shut like eight shutouts it feels like so like he’s fine like it’s lost eight games with a 931 save percentage like this is new Ian’s favorite sharks prospects I’m calling now this might be I don’t know why because Aussie got traded so he has to find a new one uh real uh Real Deal Prime uh saying celebrating unman good friends a little disappointed we couldn’t didn’t pick him up it’s just how the board fell I’m sure he was on the Sharks radar um I I think it’s just how the board fell they did not want to pass up on boam or Dickinson yeah I feel like when you move up like you you try to you know I think when you move up like that I think they had something that they were targeting obviously I feel like they were targeting D um based on the pick they made and I mean it’s a good thing they moved up if that’s the case because otherwise all those defenseman would have been off the board and then maybe you are 14 Cole yeah um but I feel like with where the Sharks were and what they wanted and their needs to like I don’t get me wrong man I like iserman a lot but I can understand why mik Greer would steer clear a little bit of that player even though the Boston connection sorry um no I mean Cole eisman’s fascinating I think it’s going to be interesting to see how he um develops with the uh Islanders so fascinating but I I understand we not picking him also I think so here’s thing Ricky saying like hockey prospect um hockey uh podcast Prospect uh said it was a really deep goalie draft just no sure things but a lot of potential yeah I think that’s probably fair I didn’t I wasn’t super enamored with the goolia class this year like even I know we’ll talk about iakov in a few minutes but like even there like you’re still taking like he’s still 21 right so you’re what how much like increase are you gonna get I understand his numbers in the KL are silly but with without any International play to go off of because unfortunately Russia can’t play international competitions and stuff like that like I don’t know man like I there is a lot of I think that the one thing now is with so many different scouting services and so many people I think it’s really easy I mean there’s I I don’t think there’s a lot of consensus I think is what I’m trying to say right I mean espe and I understand people who like their guy like they’ll say oh scouching hates this guy okay well that’s fine um but you know other people like him so you know who’s right we I don’t know right I I think I understand people have their their people that they like more than other people but I mean there’s lot of varied opinion everywhere so I guess you know your mileage will vary I guess uh Skyler coming in with the $2 super chat again we appreciate any Super Chat donations they help us keep the show ad free so we can keep trucking along and rambling without rambling about random products uh so Mike G and his staff get a hell yeah I think so yeah man like this to me is the most excited I have been about uh a shark’s draft class maybe ever yeah I mean I I don’t know like this draft class just every single pick it just feels right like and there’s typically one that doesn’t so yeah saying I would have picked I I would have loved iserman but you’re picking a d man 10 at 10 times with especially since they traded up by the way can we give Greer credit for trading up yeah he saw what was gonna happen he kind of read it in advance it feels like and he was like listen I need a top defenseman let’s trade up and barely gave gave up anything it feels like so I mean he gave up 42 and 11 like that’s fine for Sam Dickinson I will take that all day yeah um Wendy City hockey says uh the NHL need to reconsider the idea of an N NFL style draft where the draft in person is great and the sphere was perfect I mean you were there yeah I mean the sphere the I think they should always do it at the sphere and I know that’s going to cost the NHL a buttload of money but but uh I’m not the NHL so I can say that [ __ ] so um no I I I I think it was great like the sphere was amazing like the effects they did the gold horn or the fog horn every time there was a trade was just absolutely hilarious um because every time everyone’s like oo um and everyone booing Gary bman um and then them sounding the horn on him talking was also really funny so yeah it was a good trap it was really I I’m really H like what what grade do you give this draft for the sharks or for the NHL for the Sharks oh okay um an a I don’t know how you an a like I don’t know how you don’t give it an a yeah like the only reason it’s not an A+ is because like I I just don’t want to give a draft an A+ because again these are 18yearold kids yeah uh AO uh one two three four five 199 Super Chat appreciate it again uh super chats help keep this show ad free uh after this draft have the Sharks found their identity I definitely hard-hitting can skate very well Chicago’s building the fastest team on planet on this like green planet Earth the sharks are building a team that’s going going to hit you wear you down and score way too many goals on you the one thing the one thing I really like about this shark’s draft class is I do like that like there is size like obviously size is definitely a theme Here um hey we didn’t get any of the six seven guys so but there’s also like but there’s also like skill right like they’re not just like I feel like the sharks under Doug Wilson Jr got a little too enamored with their small Kings small yeah I see and I think and I think the one thing like and I think what kind of bears this out and obviously like there maybe this isn’t completely fair but I’m gonna say it anyway what what was the two what was the two overriding themes with the Barracuda this year number one they’re ass number two they’re always injured yeah right yeah so I don’t I don’t mind the Sharks getting a little bigger I mean look at the look at the trade they made with aie for like when they traded Aussie they got what’s his eigor like 6’4 yeah um like they’re trying to get bigger and bigger does win cups like I not all the time but like you see the trends in the NHL of what team win a cup yeah um like you need those bigger guys you need a guy like Philip beasted you need a guy like David enom you need a guy Cali CR and taking too many penalties you’re not wrong there well the cudot don’t know how to play hockey but like um and I I think rovski and the new system might help the Cuda but that’s a different show um yeah yeah I don’t mind them getting a little bit bigger uh on their Nei in their Prospect right I do want to say I’m so excited for the prospect scrimmage who do we think liat GNA be I know you can’t watch it but I’m still gonna make you answer that super sad um I don’t know I just I haven’t thought about put it that I haven’t put enough thought into it I just think they’re probably they’re probably splitting him and Will Smith up right they have to they can’t put that’s unfair that’s unfair imagine like so bready and Smith versus David enstrom and like trinov oh my God poor guys they have to split up so like they have to split up Will Smith and uh yeah I don’t who’s getting Quinton musty is the winner here or whoever’s getting trov oh or hton oh give me CBR Halton CBR hton would be a lot of fun uh let’s let’s get into some other let’s get some uh let’s get into some other sharks news and then we’ll kind of oh give me a second here I have a super chat five Australian dollars from our good friend from Down Under like a tiger glad to see Jules lives I did I did grind that b fish for boam but I’m still very happy that with the draft GM mg going big boys but skating and skills I agree and I did survive um to all those who are worried um that yeah I did survive the draft it it was a ask pucky I was like shaking when the [ __ ] uh Ottawa was picking because I really needed them to go yakam Chuck so yeah surpris surprised yakam Chuck went as high as he did I know a lot of people like him he shoots right he shoots right and he’s 6 foot three look look at what they’re feeding these children I don’t know what they’re feeding I steroids at Birth I don’t know maybe steroids in the womb I I’m not even sure anymore oh my God all right um so other sharks news that obviously went down during the weekend uh Luke cunan has a new one-year deal uh one year at 2.75 million I’m fine with this uh I am not a big Luke cunan guy but one year at 2.7 I can live with that although I think they have a lot of Luke cunan they have I think Luke cunan gets traded at the deadline um there’s my hot take of the year um I mean they have enough of him that they can spare they have about 18 of him so I think we can live with 17 of him Mike career that’s like my only complaint for you this offseason stop getting more luk cunnins please uh Nikolai kov is is unfortunately being bought out by the San Jose Sharks um I’m sad I like him um I think that he was good on the Barracuda I think the Barracuda could have used him but at the same time uh he’s a guy who he’s a guy who deserves a chance and I think that the sharks are doing right by him by buying him out because he was obviously on the he was obviously on the outside looking in um as far as the defensive picture when we talk about the defensive I think there’s still eight guys that are still uh competing for spots so that LE L is getting smaller now but I mean yesterday it was nine now it’s eight they still probably have some more moves to take um I don’t think the shs are done yeah I mean it’s yeah I don’t know I I think the sharks are doing right by him I’m sad to see him go I like nickes I hope he hits on with another team and gets and gets a legit shot um with Utah they seem to be getting all the defensemen today pretty good 49499 Super Chat we again we appreciate uh all super chats uh and they keep the show ad free all right with uh what is with Luke cunan and the Sharks liking him we let zinaa walk for a dude that can hit and maybe uh last 10 games healthy sharks love Luke cunan man the Sharks love Luke cunan because he is a true professional like if you listen to Ryan Orosi talk about Luke cunan uh the Sharks love him Zaden I’m sad to see zadina go I’m not sad but I’m also kind of torn like how I feel about them not qualifying ziden like I don’t know where he fits in this roster that’s true that’s my thing like my thing with them not qualifying him is that where does Zena go in this roster because we all want Gan to get called up we all want Gan to be on the NHL lineup you know what I mean um but like cunan they just they’re in love with Luke Cen Luke cun’s never leaving this jerks he’ll probably have his number retired and I say that as a joke before everyone comes comes at me coming for you yeah it’s it’s fine like I think it’s a oneyear deal look it I think the the thing is with the sharks right is they kind of like rotating through these like you know guys giving him a second chance at life here um and I just I think when you know you bring in a guy like tidal Andrea like it I just I don’t you’re right like I just I I I’m disappointed but at the same time I I look at this lineup for next year and I’m like where do you put him in because don’t forget you also have C who’s probably playing top six you have um assuming SBR signs I’m assuming I have a weird feeling they’re going to get one either I have a feeling they’re GNA get one of the big free agents I don’t think it’s going to be like Sam Reinhardt or those people but they’re gonna probably get a free agent to play with sbini like I don’t know where he fits um and and I don’t think you should like plop sbini with Philip Zena so uh yeah uh so that wraps up St news uh what do we guys think of we’re getting there I promise I promise it’s it’s it’s on it’s on the list GMS were on steroids today as with the kids um like absolute chaos today by the way what do we get for for Nico sterm at the deadline a first round pick and you think I’m joking I’m not yeah no I don’t think they have their first I don’t know what Tampa has right now but no you you don’t understand how much GMS value a guy like Sturm like he’s at least fetching a second round pick I a guy um so let’s uh some NHL stuff I I kind of alluded to this earlier uh one of the things that I was super fascinated by was Ilan dakov who’s 21y old D plus three goalie uh where does he go in the draft uh really early apparently uh apparently I am an idiot so I said that if he goes super early I would come on here and say that I’m absolutely a dummy head for for thinking that you could have him with a later pick uh the Avalanche pick him up at 38 pick up fascinating move for the Avalanche because again this is a guy who I think has one more year left uh on his KHL contract and then can come over yeah um I mean they OB need goal tending it feels like so like well they’ve got Georgia for one more year but I don’t know if you want to like I don’t know if you want to throw nbac up to the Wolves right but like it’s not a bad pickup listen the guy um feels like it’s probably should become an NHL goenda like four goenda so like I don’t know it’s fine it’s neat like because I think they have georgev for one more year and they have to make a decision there I don’t think georg’s a guy like I’ve never been a big George GF guy and I think he’s like he’s so he’s so hot or cold yeah yeah but yeah yeah no I get that um Jesus so the uh the Vegas Golden Nights uh about this what are we talking about the Vegas Nights go for it uh they trade Logan Thompson who apparently did a trade so that makes a lot more sense now Sig autograph at the sphere when broke by the way good for him good for him yeah uh Washington for pick 83 which turned out to which turned into pavl moich and a 2025 third um really scratching my head a lot on that one at first because we didn’t I didn’t realize that he’ requested a trade and it’s like he’s he’s he’s a decent goalie he makes nothing like what are we doing um but yeah uh but we figured out what’s going to happen Vegas follows up that move yes uh they acquire from the New Jersey Devil uh the New Jersey Devils um get uh Paul cter in a 2025 uh third round pick for akir and Alexander Holtz um so hell of a deal for Vegas so two things one I get two things one the fact that Alexander Holtz is with the Vegas Golden Nights is going to make me lose sleep tonight um couldn’t give him dust though for for Teo wi no no no no no don’t you had to trade for him for Paul [ __ ] c cter um but I I do get why New Jersey liked cter yeah um like he’s GNA be great with New Jersey I just don’t like this trade for yeah they’re the New Jersey Devils are weird the Holtz I know he hasn’t like fully hit but like I it’s Vegas or going to do some voodoo magic and he’s going to become like a or they’ll trade him again because that’s what or they’ll trade him again like it’s fine yeah St Louis uh picks up Kevin Hayes uh for a 20 oh sorry and a 2025 uh second round pick uh they trade him to Pittsburgh for future considerations my favorite player I heard he’s a good player that’s fine for Pittsburgh I I don’t they wanted to get younger but they got Kevin Hayes so like I saw that tweet and I kind of laughed I get why because you get 20 25 second but uh yeah um Tampa Bay Lightning trade Tanner youo to the Kings for pick number 118 which turned into Yen gigic and a 2025 second round pick so after trading an entire draft class for him they trade him to the LA Kings for nothing um I I want to rate that draft class at one day the draft class they gave up for Tanner should know we do need to go back and check that at some point yeah um and then Utah I want to say took more steroids and went on a [ __ ] run here yeah uh Tampa Bay trades Mel sergachev to Utah for JJ Moser Conor geeki uh 199 which was noest Stein and a 2025 second round pick um yeah I mean Utah said they were gonna they Utah said that they were going to make moves and make moves they did that’s a good haul for Tampa I know they’re giving up sergachev but I I like geeky um JJ moser’s fine like it’s fine for Tampa I’m shocked I think they’re trying to clear up cap space because I apparently the rumor is they’re in on gensel but every single [ __ ] team is apparently in on gensel um this is I like this for both sides it gives Utah I think they’re done losing and they want to make the playoffs so yeah New Jersey uh traded John Marino in 153 which was Ellis check to Utah for 49th which turned into Mel yov which is a goalie if I correct Y and a 2025 second um so again Utah making moves Man U I like I like what Utah did I think they had a really good draft they had a really good draft uh te is gonna be a nightmare so um yeah um other things that are kind of noteworthy uh Stam Coast going to Market and Detroit Redwing what is Detroit doing well that’s that’s what I was gonna ask you next uh Toronto gets the signing right to Chris tanv that makes sense um GM Brad tree living yeah makes perfect sense um um yeah I mean what is so okay can we talk about the Jacob trouba situation for a second here let’s talk about Jacob trouba so Detroit you you you get rid of Jake wman for nothing for nothing and a second round pick which thank you by the way uh we select laneous with that pick but uh and now you want to bring in Jacob trouba but Jacob trouba does not want to come over apparently according he’s in shock which fair enough fair enough professional athlete shocked that he could get traded but like you you have c space why use it on Jacob trouba don’t understand right trouba but like there has to have been better options here and that’s the thing right like I I just like I don’t know what they’re doing and I think like because of what Steve Eiserman did in in in Tampa like a lot of people give him the benefit of the doubt but now I’m like I am seriously scratching like oh you’re clearing this C same player different times they’re like you’re going after Jake gensel like you maybe they’re going after Jake gensel maybe they’re going after Stephen Stan Coast no they’re they’re they’re clearing space for Jacob troa if it’s Jacob troa they cleared space for I’m sorry I cannot get behind that [ __ ] same like if they go out tomorrow or whenever free when’s free agency sorry guys I’ve lost track of time here it’s s Sunday Saturday Monday if listen I’ve I’ve been up since like 4 a guys bear with me here oh Felix in the chat supposedly true oh that’s I’m well he has a no trait so he waiv what is I still have to ask what is Detroit doing like trouba is a hockey player he has his rights to whatever you know what I mean but like I I’m questioning Detroit here you made a lot of questionable decisions in free agency I don’t like the Justin Hall deal um they want to bring back Shane gosis like I I don’t I don’t know what you’re doing Detroit I yeah it’s it’s weird um who are your winners and losers of the draft of the draft of the weekend of the of the last little bit even I’m not gonna say the Sharks even though the sharks are definitely go thing I’m going to choose a team that’s not the Sharks okay um I’m going to I did not like Philly’s draft um okay that I don’t know they’re just the I did not love Philly’s draft and I think a winner is oh I hate saying this the Chicago Blackhawks I think they had a really good draft so I have a couple of winners go for it uh my number one winner ises sharks yeah Minnesota 100% thank you tiger Minnesota always doing good uh doing good things I like UT I like what Utah’s done so far obviously they’re they’re a team that’s trying to do things to become a respectable franchise um I like what they do Seattle and Carolina I feel like they always do really well at the draft it always kind like I feel like they always goes without saying Berkeley C is fun yeah I really like I like Seattle’s draft class I seem like I always like Seattle’s draft classes though um and I think um you know what and and another winner I’m gonna say the USHL who drafted 49 players which I think is fan [ __ ] tastic damn good job um I have some losers you have losers first um again Philly for me I think I don’t love the Beck at senica pick but I understand why the Shar the Sharks Jesus not the Sharks I understand why the Ducks did it here um I I I don’t I just don’t love their draft I think with the Ducks a lot of people saying the have St good yeah definitely um but yeah ducks are not really losers I just I question that first pick that’s all so my first loser who is my unashamed loser yes Kevin Kevin Uh Kevin hits it right on the head uh my first loser is the qmj which uh only drafted uh 15 players in this year’s draft which is a crazy crazy crazy crazy low for them um as far as teams go the Edmonton Oilers and I couldn’t articulate why until I went into Discord and Pat [ __ ] nailed it so Pat I don’t see you in the chat but you nailed it and I wish my brain wasn’t mush and I wish I thought of this so Edmonton Oilers trade to get into the first round right but they they traded a first round pick to do it the Edmonton Oilers top 12 protected apparently okay but but here’s the here’s the problem I get I have to give full credit to Pat here because he’s the one that like said this and I’m totally ripping him off the Edmonton Oilers are a team that was just playing in game seven of the Stanley Cup Final and they used a first round pick to get into the first round the last pick of this year’s draft you’re not supposed to use the pick to get into the top pick to the last pick of the first round of the draft you’re supposed to use that pick to make your team better at the deadline what are they [ __ ] doing so and again that’s all Pat I wish I could take credit I wish my brain wasn’t [ __ ] mush and I could be like I’m so smart look at me but no I it didn’t sit right with me but until Pat came up and said what are they doing and and he laid it out and I’m like [ __ ] why didn’t I think of that why didn’t I say that yeah I didn’t get that I yelled congratulations at Sam O’Reilly um but I I didn’t get that move also Felix bring up a good point in the yeah I’ll get there in a second uh Aaron Daniels random and probably late whatever happened to Ryan mky Ryan mky is playing for red star kulin in the KHL in China yep uh and uh yeah uh p uh Felix uh can I get an unre mention whatever team drafted um the second only the second Chinese player in the NHL um whatever team drafted Kevin he as an ABC I salute them there you go man Edmonton wins cause London Edmonton wins London oh my God win a pig yes so um but yeah so I think like Edmonton to me because like again like what are you doing like this is that’s a pick you’re supposed to use to make your team better at the deadline not pick a guy at the end of the first [ __ ] round of the playoffs so ad loses I get why they picked Sam like I I get it a little I do not love them giving up a pick but I think oh Riley but this is a team that needs to win can kind of give something they’re missing in their bottom six if that makes sense Biggest Loser yotes fans unfortunately yeah unfortunately um other losers um Detroit with an asteris because I don’t know what the [ __ ] they’re doing I don’t know so I I reserve the right to change my mind on that but just based on their weak like I don’t think their draft was terrible but I think like overall like I just I have so many [ __ ] Quest questions I like M Michael Brans nard I I really do he’s great but have a type that they just keep Drafting and drafting um Oakland guitar is asking did anyone see that admission ask Kane to wave his no ST I did not see that but I have been so busy today that I am not shocked that I missed it yeah I I heard about that later on um but yeah Ottawa can we talk about the Suns for a second yeah you have the floor I don’t love their draft okay I think it might just be Carter yakam Chuck and I think I just don’t like Carter yakimchuk but what are the Suns doing I I never know what the SS like I feel like the senss are probably looking at the Utah and like it’s the I know what you’ve done for other people Jesus and I want that for me meme like cuz I I I I don’t know how to explain this team one apparent they’re working on trading CH which is fun because you’re like your defense is kind of wonky anyways but like sure you want to trade chick like that’s fine I just I don’t get your moves like you haven’t had a move that I’m like that makes sense for you you know what I mean yeah man I don’t that’s kind of yeah I mean that’s kind of where I’m at um and I don’t like I understand again the Tampa Bay Lightning are kind of in the as like an Aster’s there as well because like I maybe they’ll do do something crazy and then it’ll all be forgiven but I feel like you know this is a team clearing a ton of cap space and then they you again like step Stam Co of all the players where they’ve they’ve gotten their deals done like stepen Stam Co is the guy that you’re like you get it on the you you get it on like you know the you get it in free agency we’re not taking care of you during the season I like this is the second time they’ve done that to them and I don’t know what why they do that to Stephen stanos he’s the captain of your team he put your [ __ ] like he put your franchise on the [ __ ] map yeah I mean this feels a little like San Jose and and pavelski before the Sharks downfall uh like I don’t think I don’t know if Tampa’s gonna collapse as hard as the Sharks did and I don’t know if they have their pick next year um but uh yeah so look look at maybe they’ll go get like Jake enel or something and keep stamco somehow that seems to be like how this always ends they end up P St Co any so maybe you know maybe so naturally Stephen stamp Coast is going to sign the minute we end this podcast we thiss with the I don’t know man I I’m curious to see what they do it again I don’t think it’s like I don’t want to say like you know is is a complete disaster because I think that obviously they’re making moves to do something I just think that there’s there’s not a whole lot of things to do in this free agent class like there’s a couple of big fish but not very big fish so I think someone’s someone’s clearing space and I think someone’s going to be like oh we cleared a bunch of space and we missed yeah no that’s that’s my thought and I think it’s going to be one of those teams that made the questionable decision to get rid of certain players um other losers in this draft guys under six feet um you do not apply to this draft okay I’m sorry wasn’t there some record broken with like the amount of over 6’2 guys drafted or like something chaotic it was the highest I I did I don’t have the act the exact stat in front of me but some I think it was someone said it was like it’s the most the the most percentage of players over six feot that I’ve been drafted since like the 90s so yeah so if you’re below like six foot two I’m so sorry for you in this draft um but if you’re above six foot s you are a winner so because they are feeding these kids God knows what at this point steroids in the womb is my only guess live from Weil oh my goodness pucky how’s Vegas let us know in the chat 163 guys drafted over 6 foot2 third tallest draft ever third T there you go yeah so if you’re under six to um so when is like the seven foot guy just gonna come in here when they can skate when they don’t skate like drafts I it’s fascina I think I mean you see a lot of guys I thought something interesting in this draft too was like a lot of big guys going in the later rounds a lot of a lot of teams obviously taking flyers on guys in the later rounds I a lot of d+1 players I I felt went in the later rounds as well a lot of uh a lot of big guys who had gone through the draft once already um got picked but I don’t have like a list in front of me um that’s just kind of anecdotical um anything else while we’re still here uh because I feel like we’ve we’ve kind of covered everything covered everything I feel good I feel very good I have things to do I I have sleep I’ve been up since 4 a. need I need to finish packing so I can go home so I can go in the morning um yeah so look it um as far as uh oh Ricky’s got something what do you got Ricky drum roll please On’s are Russian goalies contract Russian goalies contract up oh that’s a fantastic question let me go take a peek I should have wrote that down I did not uh give me a second I will find that out as we tap dance here and yes everyone is going to be Char sized by the end of this decade like like if you’re Insanity man Insanity the sharks are going to draft like a 6 fo n defenseman one day and we’re just going to be like he’s a giraffe but all right what else is happening here so per Elite prospects uh next year so we’ll see what happens uh is there a can is there a Canadian goalie drafted this year if not that’s the biggest L can yeah there’s definitely I think there was let me just check there a few Canadian uh I think Carter George right yeah no maybe no he was drafted to hello wasn’t Carter yeah Carter George yeah Carter George was drafted um to the LA Kings yeah I think look at I I think um I think in North America goalies have kind of like fallen behind I think the states is still doing okay developing goalies but I feel like there’s a lot of the similar problems there that they have here right like the thing is with the European leagues is like you kind of get into a system and then you can go up and down based on your club team up until like the highest levels uh to the lowest levels where obviously here it’s like you’re a junior goalie you’re a junior hockey goalie you’re playing junior hockey there’s no coming up to the AHL or high levels um of hockey and I don’t know how you fix that without adopting like a similar Club system over here which just wouldn’t work in the no the NHL right no um which wouldn’t work in North America I mean um so I don’t know how you fix it I think it’s something that like the I think that is something that obviously that there’s going to have to be a lot of soul searching in hockey development circles in North America um I still think that the states is still doing pretty good in goalie development but I don’t think that they’re super far ahead of Canada either though yeah yeah it look interesting yeah so I mean uh in the chat here uh goalie equipment is expensive yeah look it again and here’s the other thing too right like if you’re I’ve said this many times like if you’re if you’re a parent do you want to push your kid to play the position where there’s two spots on the team or a position where there’s seven spots on the team or 13s on the team right on with the combination of cost of equipment cost of like just specialty camps and stuff like that which is obviously things that you have to do if you wanna you know if you want to make that next step to play uh in higher levels of hockey it’s it’s it’s super expensive and there’s not a big Avenue to do it like if you’re a parent I would rather push my kid to play forward or defense because there’s more spots for him to do that whereas if a goalie eventually you know eventually there’s no room left at the end unless you’re super super good Ian I have a very important question for you now that this draft is complete do you think the sharks have the best Prospect pool in the NHL it’s really good right I mean like mlin celebrini makes it such a boost um I’m really happy I don’t off the top of my head I feel like yes but I also feel like that’s incredibly biased as being that I’m sharks fan um because I it’s never been this good it’s never been this good no like this is why I’m so excited for Prospect scrimmage because like I don’t think we’ve ever had a prospect scrimmage that was going to be this exciting um with like this many high-end first round picks playing in it like edstrom must Smith so brini you know um but yeah yeah I mean look it so we got some you know as the former hockey dad goalies picked themselves you know my daughter’s a goalie and it wouldn’t change look I mean obviously you want to make your kids happy and stuff I just think that like it’s it’s got to come into it’s it’s got to enter your mind right I I mean I’m not a hockey parent so I’m guessing um also um also someone put it out and I’m forgetting no one congratulated Florida on winning the cup [ __ ] those guys there you go I’m I’m over like look at the the playoffs are over the bandwagon is over [ __ ] those guys uh I think it’s again I think you want to try on the bandwagon next playoffs we’ll see we’ll see how they’re looking in the playoffs next year and your bracket is going to get absolutely demolished again probably because you’re gonna pick Vegas again no I’m not okay um yeah look it I think Prospect will ranking um sharks are four last year so they I yeah they they’ve got to be in the top three I I would imagine um but again without really without taking without doing anything more than like a surface thought on it and biased because thank I just need good things finally um yeah someone should have congratulated them for not being reverse sweeped they were close they were one they were like one goal away or two goals away from getting I don’t know if they’re streaming the prospect game I don’t remember if AJ asked that yesterday when AJ was talking to people I hope they do because I’m hoping I can go back and watch it after the fact because I’m not going to be near Great internet for the next week um yeah um all right I think we should probably get out of here we’re kind of just mammering on yeah this is going to become like the ocean talk again and we don’t need that we really don’t need that we’re both have [ __ ] to do I’m exhausted uh Drew said it’s on the audio Network so hopefully hopefully they stream it though they streamed it last year yeah I’m sure they will and you should because we’re probably going live after the prospect scrimmage with pucky AJ and I so yeah who knows we may have special guests wink uh obviously so so yeah let’s uh let’s break down what’s coming up first obviously the prospect room coming up there’s going to be a show after that there will probably a show after free agency if anything else breaks significantly for Sharks news we will probably have a show then too uh I am on vacation for the next little bit but if anything crazy sharks happens I’ll probably like do a walking through the bush get eaten by mosquitoes cell phone video and throw it on my own own YouTube channel just because the quality for those is never uh fantastic um so stay tuned for that the Sharks do anything interesting I will probably have a walking through the bu video uh that’s gonna be so fun it is what it is um aside from that though guys uh let’s uh let’s get out of here because I’m exhausted where’s my L there we go in case you missed it you want 1. Perfectly happy with Dickson, will he be better than Buium? Who knows. However, I heard Dickson say he liked to base his game off of Heiskanen… if he turns into anything like Heiskanen! Couldn’t be happier.
