Indianapolis Colts – Richardson, Latu, Mitchell are final pieces or I’m Kevin Bacon in Animal House!
the Colts are a stable organization and because they’re a stable organization they are not going to throw a hissy fit they are not going to panic and they are not going to make signings that Splash Back on them later they don’t want to be Ryan grigson before the 2015 season where he goes out and he gets Andre Johnson and he goes out and he gets uh Frank Gore and he signs out although Frank Gore was pretty damn good for the Colts he doesn’t go out he went out got those guys because they were the missing pieces they weren’t the missing pieces and two years later he was fired replaced by Chris Ballard who is in every way the anti- Ryan grigson Ballard not bad drafts very very few free agents he is stable he is steady as you go and because he’s steady as you go it’s steady as you got you know what I mean 9 and8 last year okay Anthony Richardson coming back that’s going to give some lift assuming he can stay healthy okay Le outu latu drafted 15th first defensive player taken in the draft that doesn’t mean that he should have been the number one number two or number three pick in the draft but everybody needed offensive players it means that people were scared out of their minds by his neck surgeries and his decision to retire from football a few years earlier when he was still at uh Washington at udub then he went to UCL LA and he’s been pretty good then they go out and they get lucky right at 52 they get ad Mitchell ad Mitchell can flat play at least through workouts that dude’s a workout Warrior I don’t know what he’s going to be on the field when the F flies for real I don’t know but I’m looking forward to finding out my I here’s what I can’t do I can’t look at the Colts and think well here we go again what a long ass year this is this is what Colts fans do about the Bears that’s how we look at the Bears the Bears media and Bears fans are morons because they think it’s going to be different this time around and it’s almost never different sure they get lucky the depth pieces they’re back too so what’s going to be different Richardson latu Mitchell those guys are going to be different and they’re going to have to be different or I got a problem because I don’t like looking stupid every single year you know for 17 18 19 20 21 all right 17 terrible Bears completely mismanaged I didn’t think Ballard knew what he was doing Scott told Z your opening day starter because Andrew Luck can’t go and jacobe Brett didn’t ready yet what were you doing how could you put Scott toline I watch Scott tozen in that camp not good you knew it wasn’t going to be good but you said before that you said well they know what they’re doing then in 18 Andel back and always was right with the world and you go 10 and six you win a playoff game and and you look kind of sexy headed into 2019 but then Andrew Luck retires 15 days prior to the season you say whoa wait a minute what well they must know what they were doing they must have known in March that luck was was done and that’s why they kept brassett around and and overpaid for brassette because they were preparing for this eventuality they keep saying jacobe Bret Frank Reich said this that he’s a top 15 back in the National Football League maybe they’re right they got to know what they’re doing right no they didn’t so what do they do they go out sign Philip Rivers and Philip Rivers defies defies All Odds and despite the fact that he couldn’t move and could only throw a football from like me to you Colts win 11 games they go to the playoffs and they almost beat the Buffalo Bills and we know what happened after that if you’ve been with me uh through through the previous video you know you you make the trade for Carson Wentz you give up a three and a conditional two which elevates to a one for Carson Wentz what we knew that was screwy but we say well they must have know they must know what they’re doing no sadly they didn’t scripture a bond over scripture just isn’t enough to win football games so Frank Reich put himself on the hot seat Carson Wentz bye-bye off to uh Washington tend to be the quarterback of the commanders if they were called the commanders at that point and you go out and trade a third round pick for Matt Ryan who couldn’t play dead anymore and so you have to fire Reich midseason you elevate actually you don’t Elevate him you go to Bristol Drive to Bristol and you say hey Jeff Saturday want to come and Coach us come back to the Colts and Coach he says I got to be able to hold people accountable and so he does and then he’s held accountable by never coaching in the National Football League again being replaced by Shane Sten you say well Shane Sten he seems to know what he’s doing Colts they go 9 and8 despite the uh injury to Anthony Richardson and you say oh all right well Anthony Richardson’s coming back they drafted the best Edge in the draft they drafted a receiver who for all the world during mini camp looks like a guy who can flat play football this is wonderful right we’re g to find out but this is my last my last trip into Hopeville for the Indianapolis Colts if they don’t Pony up this year if they don’t win 10-11 games win the AFC South I’m going to believe it can never happen because the Colts in seven seasons have not won the AFC South one time they’ve won one playoff game they have yet to host a playoff game during the Chris Ballard era how long are we going to buy what is being sold us he got a pay off right now he pushed his chips into the middle of the table based upon the roster that he had last year believing that with Anthony Richardson and this draft class they the Colts all their problems are going to be solved now we look at that roster we say yikes you’re going to you’re going to put you’re going to bet your professional future on Jaylen Jones Nick cross Rodney Thomas as members of that secondary that’s what you’re going to do lots and lots of Miss tackles last year got to the quarterback a lot but didn’t get pressure on the quarterback enough so you lost the turnover battle for the season I think I think it was very close and now you don’t have Gardner menu but you do have Anthony Richardson you do have Joe flacko maybe this can all work out and uh Jonathan Taylor for a whole season and and with Pitman and Mitchell and DS and Pierce and Gould and duelan like okay that’s not a bad group of wide receivers tight ends we got nothing but tight ends got tight ends com out out of our ears you got five of them that everybody in this city believes could start tomorrow if you got five starting tight ends you got no starting tight ends so we’re hoping that galani Woods can be the guy and and all the while I sound how are you Julie you having a good day excellent all the while I’m like Kevin Bacon in Animal House uh remain calm all is well yes they know what they’re doing we have reason to suspect that they know what they’re doing whoa and I get knocked over and stopped like a cartoon character in a Warner Brothers Bugs Bunny feature that’s what happens to me year after year after a year and I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to put up with this I think this is my last go around with the Colts if the Colts can’t Pony up this year I’m going full scorched Earth on this entire operation that’s Chris Ballard that’s Ed dods Morocco Brown Shane styken is not immune from my wrath but I really believe that that offense can be spectacular that that offense can deliver because who’s got a better running back in the AFC South no one now they’re the Texans have a better team from the wide receiver position that’s for sure Nico Collins we know all about Nico Collins now I’ll say this about Nico Collins though if it wasn’t for the Indianapolis holds Nico Collins wouldn’t put up very gy numbers people wouldn’t look at niik Collins and say damn he’s one of the best wide receivers in the NFL if he had to go by what he does against the Jaguars and the Titans and everybody else the Texans play ni Collins is pretty ordinary but against the Colts he’s good for two he’s like what Ty Y Hilton was for the Colts against the Texans that’s who Nico Collins is and then you go deeper than that you got Stefan Diggs hello you got Dell you got Noah Brown you got Robert Woods you got a lot of guys on that roster who can catch a football and run with it and the Colts they got Pitman all right they got ad Mitchell who I think is going to be really really good they got Alec Pierce they got Josh DS and other than Josh DS you’re kind of hoping right that’s what we do we’re hoping we’re hoping that latu can get to the quarterback and get double digit sacks that he is a whirling dervish that he’s a Tasmanian devil coming off the edge we hope that we hope that Zer Franklin and EJ speed are going to make more tackles than they miss we hope that Juju brenz can play a full season and be a lock down corner and that Jaylen Jones is going to be a guy who didn’t get you beat you hope that Nick cross ain’t going to bite on a faint from EJ or CJ St and there goes Nico Collins to the house that’s what we hope if you’re a Colts fan if which I am I want at the end of this year to say see I told you Chris Ballard he knows what he’s doing told you dods Morocco Brown they know what they’re doing I told you this ownership group is about winning and by ownership group I mean Jim ersay and his daughters they know what they’re doing and they allowed Chris Ballard to put this thing together and run it back that offensive line was a awesome and healthy the entire season DeForest Buckner Southbend Indiana in Notre Dame I had no idea where that University was I didn’t know it was in Indiana I had no clue I live north of Chicago it could have been in Maryland it could have been in Nevada I really had no idea I just knew it was a beautiful place with a golden dome that’s what I knew and they won a championship and good for them but it doesn’t belong to the state of Indiana it Frank Gore was pretty damned good, indeed.
Correction: Retirement from football was NOT Latu's decision, it was the decision of the University of Washington football program, quite likely for liability reasons. Latu wanted to keep playing and he went the extra mile to be able to do so, going to multiple medical specialists and shopping around until he found a program that believed in his doctor and in him enough to green light him to resume his career.
The draft is ALWAYS a crap shoot, but I really hope that brave pick rewards the Colts franchise richly for the next ten years.
AD Mitchell is not "luck" because Ballard IDed him and then traded down and STILL got him. Don't use that word. Give Ballard the respect he deserves for identifying a bloated WR market in the 2024 draft, picking his guy, and nailing him.
I don't know why but I'm getting Jerome Pathon flashbacks. I know I'm wrong but yikes. I liked Mitchell prior to the combine but seeing him running routes in person totally disappointed me. Chalk it up to me overreacting with 2wrk to go

Kent, you need to try some decaf. Back to my stock car race analogy, which is correct, due to the equalizing effects of the draft and the salary cap… Chris Ballard's job is to assemble a racing team that can compete for a title. He has done that. Now it becomes coaching and execution and random events, none of which he has control over. There are 32 teams, probably 25 of them hoping to break through and run the table. You've got perhaps a 4% chance, assuming that things are equalized — less than that because there are a handful of superior situations for organizations like the Chiefs and the 49ers that skew the probable outcome.
Relax. Enjoy. Stop obsessing and setting ridiculous "Championship or Bust" expectations for yourself and your audience.
Winning the AFC South would be nice, but one-and-done in the playoffs isn't going to satisfy you any more than the Pacers losing the NBA East championship series (!!!) is going to satisfy you.
