Bryan McCabe Talks Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Win, Development Camp

it was phenomenal to be a part of it obviously uh yeah me and Lou it’s been a long time coming I think uh for my first NHL game was 29 years so yeah dream come true just to be a part of this whole thing with this group uh this organization you know making my home here it was very very special to say at least do you sense anything for the guys coming in is there a different vibe around here being the Champs that it seems like the guys the eyes are a little bit wider for sure absolutely it’s a different feel when you’re bringing guys in and you just finished one Stanley Cup two weeks ago so uh proud moment for sure uh to be a part of it and uh let these guys experience it and I think uh yeah there’s a different glow around here for sure for some of these kids it’s uh certainly a spot people want to come with a new facility and uh the track record we’ve had over the last couple years and um it’s awesome sorry so many first time every year when somebody wins the cup there’s a lot of guys that have never won the cup but here it seems kind of so many guys that have put so many years in with the Panthers yourself Lang Longo even the barkov you know guys in the front office is that was that kind of special to share that moment with them knowing that you know Rick Dudley was here back in the day you know those kind of guys yeah it means a lot it means more to share it with people who’ve been through it with you or made their Roots here and stuff like that uh you know to see a guy like Duds win it who’s been in the game for 50 years and held every title and is just a living legend uh to to see his name etched on that cup is uh gives me chills like uh nobody deserves it more than that he’s put his time in over the years and driven millions of miles in his Dodge Ram and uh it’s it’s people like that you love to see people that you really genuinely look up to and he’s been a mentor and stuff to me here uh to see him get his flowers was really nice obviously so much has changed here under Bill in four years how how has baby Player Development in DeCamp changed uh in your mind these last couple years uh it’s gotten better and better every year and we’ve got more resources and more resources and you know analytics and our sports science department and Addie and her staff and community outreach and all that stuff it’s just gotten better every year and I I truly believe that people want to come here and play now uh obviously when you see this facility and stuff too and the weather it’s uh definitely checks a lot of boxes for sure when you win who doesn’t want to play here and before get to the ice obviously you guys do so much cool stuff off you guys last year you guys did Dodgeball and some beach stuff now you went fishing pickle ball obviously the guys have a great time how are you guys going to decide that we in that your DeCamp planning is that come in well it’s hard it’s a fine line because you have a lot of guys that come back especially the college guys and the year old guys that you have their rights for three four five years before they sign or come over here so we try to not make it stale and do the same thing every year it’s uh a lot of work goes into it a lot of prep a lot of juggling balls and I try not to repeat the same stuff because it gets old if you you know you’re not fresh and new so uh there’s a lot of hands that go into it but uh we try to make it fun and you know we try to work on obviously but it’s more about teaching and getting to know each other and start building that culture that’s what we try to preach and we like to have everyone loves competition so this year was pickle ball last year was DodgeBall and we’ll figure something out for next year add adding on to how you built uh DeCamp throughout the years uh JY caner also spoke about on day one about how when you win a cup it’s it brings that extra juice in him motivating but now that you have now that you have won the cup and now there’s more emphasis on uh development how do you see that now in your role well nothing changed for me my job is to help hopefully get these young guys get a chance to live their dream like I was able to so um whether we want or not it doesn’t change I still have the same goal for all these guys just helping them become professionals and good people aren’t off the ice and you know just they all dream about getting here and the development staff along with Jordy and all the HL coaches it’s it’s it’s our job to help them get there and there’s a lot of bumps in a row but we all are pulling on the same rope and uh just try to help them through the process I’m just looking at a couple guys that have been here a while now that have their contracts are about to make that jump to Pro you know alisher Davies vus how much pride you takeen seeing those guys like I said you get to know them over a couple years now they are about to make that leap yeah it’s great it’s you know I’ve been doing this long enough now that’s like probably the proudest moment as a Dev development person is when you see a guy get to play his first game or score his first goal or earn a contract cuz it’s not easy there’s only so many to go around so to see those guys grow on and off the ice and and earn that deal and earn the chance to be a panther it’s uh it’s special it’s just a start but it’s it’s a good start for them I’m excited for all them turning pro this year uh it’s going to be fun and I know it’s not ex but your assessment of the scrimmage obviously some some highly real plays a lot of good goal tending yeah it was what we expected hopefully some goals some fun no one got hurt knock on wood that’s the biggest thing we don’t want anyone uh you know screwing up their summer or their chances in September and that’s the big thing and um I thought they they did a good job it was it was fun for the fans so that’s all that matters thank you

In Game 7 against the Oilers, the Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first on a goal from Carter Verhaeghe off a sharp pass from Evan Rodrigues.

Tied at 1 in the second, Dmitry Kulikov swept away the puck from an empty net — and Sam Reinhart scored on the ensuing rush.

The rest was up to the Florida defense which clamped down on the Edmonton offensive — with the help of some stellar goaltending from Sergei Bobrovsky.
