weeks time but today heard from Nick RIS defensive coordinator for our red birds bow yeah you’re two under Nick race he’s excited about a bunch of the new pieces coming on to this defense one that uh at points I think you could say kept the Cardinals in some games last season but at the end of the year when you look at the overall numbers uh a group that certainly has a lot of room for improvement and uh RIS kind of talked about where he thinks that they could take a jump in year two under him and uh some of the those new pieces from Darius Robinson to a guy like BJ jalari Z Collins that they’re hoping can can make a leap production wise under Ganon and race Cardinals are going to need some key internal pieces B to make a leap because they didn’t do much in free agency outside of some some Savvy vets some modest contracts Cardinals opted not to spend a lot again this off season Jonah Williams being their biggest contract externally and uh I think you and I are are in a good place with that a lot of Cardinal fans here in the chat are okay with that here’s who’s not okay with that our friends at Bleacher Report their lead writer or one of them Brad gagnan put together a list today Bo you sent this to me five big regrets NFL teams could have from the 2024 off Seasons Arizona Cardinals are included in this list bowl for quote not spending enough money in free agency yeah you know this is coming from an Outsiders perspective and a credit to Brad for trying to jump into the the waters here with the people who cover the team on on a daily basis we know that the Arizona Cardinals want to primarily be a draft in developed team and like they kicked around the idea of chasing after some big name free agents but I think that they saw once the Markets started to materialize and you and I early on and you have this source that they wanted to spend on the interior of the defensive line and they eventually did in a different way in the way of balal Nichols and Justin Jones that you know they matab buuk might have been one of their guys but never reached free agency and then Christian Wilkins who you know gets this massive deal from Vegas that I don’t think the Arizona Cardinals really want to have any part of uh down the line I mean sure his cap hits like 10 million this year but after that it’s 30 plus million each year that’s not what they want to spend on a guy that’s going to be 30 by the time he’s getting $30 million of cap charges on himself yeah you know you sent me the this article I’m like what’s this Slappy writing about but here’s what I’ll say four out of the Five Points all that don’t include the Cardinals I actually agree with I I think that the the article itself has some good stuff in it Brad references Dallas not extending Dak right and the Vegas Raiders not doubling down on on their quarterback position and whatever the hell the the Falcons are doing with Kurt Cousins and Michael Pennock and then the Aaron Rogers Saga in the Jets it’s strange that the Cardinals are included on this list because again we know what their plan is but let let’s hear Brad out these are his comments again lead reporter NFL Bleacher Report saying the rebuilding Cardinals enter the off season with nearly 60 million in cap space and very few in-house veterans to take care of you’d think if they were serious about maximizing their chances of excelling again in a critical season for quarterback Kyler Murray they load up on Talent both sides of the ball and while they didn’t completely sit on their hands they clearly could have done a lot more anyone fired up about Jonah Williams and Evan Brown is Justin Jones A Difference Maker what about Shawn Murphy bunting he continued did uh Dan saying the cards didn’t hand out a single contract withth more than $32 million it’s almost like that was a strategy Austin Ford which is how you expect teams to act when they’re saving up to pay their quarterback big bucks but Arizona already has done that and C Murray’s enormous cap hit is baked into this season as well as the next four I appreciate the Cardinals they realize they aren’t yet Super Bowl contenders and that the turnaround won’t happen overnight B but they also owe it to Murray and themselves to load up on enough talent to pave the way for a clear indication of how close he and they are to competitiveness I’m sure they have done that here I’m not sure excuse me they have done that again Bleacher Report yeah I I’m gonna disagree with it it’s you remember when you were a kid and you would go to the you know Toys R Us rip whatever of course and you know you you didn’t find something that you were you went to look for and you know your parents were like well you’re not just gonna buy something to buy something and I think that’s the case with the Arizona card the worst it was the worst like I can find some I can find something I can make do with that I can you know pair with the rest of my Ninja Turtles um but like in this case there were opportunities I think there’s some free agents that they pursued but they’re not going to get off of their their plan their game plan as far as building this roster and going out and saying hey like how come you weren’t in there the discussions for Robert hunt and aund million doll contract for in uh interior offensive lineman like I I can’t sit there and criticize Monty Austin for it now I think um you know and you’ll probably expound on this point like the one group that you and I keep in back on that this team didn’t do enough with you know investment this offseason in whether it’s the draft or whether it’s free agency is the pass rush and there were C it wasn’t a lack of opportunity as far as the pass rush like I can get behind saying ah Christian Wilkins you got priced out of that I can see how that contract could potentially not age well the Robert hunt uh the other you know offensive lineman of the interior in Jonah Williams like I think you can make the case’s probably your best tackle option out there there um because you know Tyron Smith coming off so many injuries so like the pass rush there were opportunities right you know you had uh denil Hunter going from Minnesota he signs a big lucrative deal with the Texans you know I I would have liked the Cardinals to make maybe a bigger effort to to get somebody that has a resume of getting to the quarterback yeah you’re absolutely right and again we’re gonna we’re gonna beat that dead horse until be Joe galari as a Colin steps up and we were kind of talking about it off air like with each passing day it’s like Darius Robinson’s here to play interior defensive line I don’t think he’s here to play pass rusher I think that the aform mentioned Collins and oari are going to fill that void and you know I go to spot track a lot they’ve got a lot of good Insight on there the Cardinals you know much to this article’s you know disagreement they signed three top 32 free agents to contracts big money contracts this off season so I mean like they they they were in on several guys Sean Murphy bunting Jonah Williams Justin Jones who collectively those three contracts bow are $80 million total now that just so happens if they all come to fruition and they’re here for the entirety of their deals and we hope that they are that means Allah James Conor that they’re working out so it’s not like the Cardinals like sat on their hands and this report suggests as much but they were not in on some of the major players of free agency some of the major elite players of free agency but I I say that kind of with a caveat like Elite and free agency I mean ask Steve Kim how that went like Kim usually a major player on day one day two and day three of free agency with notable names shelving out big money deals trading for Rodney Hudson’s of the world I mean like they did not age well I mean [ __ ] man we were talking about this the other day like the dehop trade outside of that first year did not age well so I go back and I look at okay let’s look at some of the biggest value contracts in free agency should the Cardinals have played in this sandbox I’m just gonna go Bo through let’s just call it the top 10 okay Kurt Cousins obviously not interested you mentioned Christian Wilkins he’s getting $10 million they’re never gonna do that and I have full confidence that he’s gonna get the most with Stills and pal and Jones and dere the defensive line group’s infinitely better D tackles Robert hunt got hundred million no thanks Calvin Ridley barf got 92 million then as you mentioned Jonathan grenard who is only 27 got $76 million I said denal Hunter who they basically switch spots like Berard goes from Houston to Minnesota and then denil Hunter goes from the Vikings to uh to Houston I think what gernard got was palatable though for the Cardinals I think that like that’s the type of player I another guy who’s who was less was Andrew vinkle for like 10 million a year for the Vikings I think that there’s there’s some Edge rushers definitely available that I thought that they definitely could have spent some money on but and you guys made that point we were waiting for it Damon like we were waiting for like yeah where’s that guy and we were talking about it off air like did they think at any point in time that a pass rusher was going to make themselves available in this draft well like really outside of Dallas Turner and chop Robinson and latu like were you get were you ever going to get those guys at 27 no and to come up and get them it was going to be pricey it was going to cost you your second would have cost you Max Melton would you have given up Darius Robinson and Max Melton to go up and get a proven pass rusher obviously they they said it’s not worth it and we saw on day two of the draft and especially on day three like that that edge rusher group just did not have depth in this draft this this draft had a lot of things going for it tackles and receivers and quarterbacks and running backs it was not a great Edge rusher class now next year’s a different story but I I do think like I don’t think they regret not spending more but I think I wonder if we get into August and the Jew if the Jews isn’t there it’s just like you know what Den Neil Hunter got $49 million to go play in Houston we have given him 55 million to come here for a couple years to just help us help us get the young players over the hump because I mean we’re gonna hear from Nick rles in a little bit and he’s gonna talk about BJ jari and I’m high on be Joe jari I feel like we’re we’re at the point now the expectations are are not fair to be Joe jari I almost feel that way because we’re taking this team and we’re talking about postseason expectations the offense is loaded Buddha Baker Jaylen Thompson on the back end like everything’s lining up right they I like Jonah Williams I like some of the key free agents they added in but hey seconde player who missed time last year who was unproven go be our number one pass rusher that’s that’s a lot to ask yeah it might be asking it might be too heavy of expectations to put on his shoulders but look he’s a top 50 pick and I I think you know even if he doesn’t tap into what they think his potential could truly fully be in year two but he starts to take you know steps forward uh and racks up a few sacks but can he lead the charge can he be the premier pass rush artist uh for the Arizona Cardinals I think that that might be putting too much on there but if if he’s game for it good but I’m looking at Danelle Hunter’s contract it’s two years $49 million with three void years on the back end like the Cardinals probably don’t even have to deal with the void years based on what they have on the books and the next couple years and you’re not locked in for a long time and you can start to extend the the players that you’re drafting or that you want to keep in house where you’re going to have to spend money to keep your players it’s it’s not going to factor in I just I think that that’s probably where you could have gotten out of your comfort zone and gotten to the negotiating table and maybe maybe paid a little bit more money like it’s just because now you’re now you’re dealing with the Fallout from that and putting all of your all what you want to do defensively and getting after the quarterback on oari on zav Collins on Dennis gek and I don’t you know as much as we like those players that might be asking too much I mean they signed 15 free agents external and internal combination they signed 15 free agents for over hundred million it’s just again not the players that respectfully external and National analysts say yeah I think the Cardinals should sign this player because I know this player and they should they should sign him it’s all fools gold I mean most of it’s fool’s gold right and and you can find guys what they did this offseason was raise the floor level as far as the talent goes for this roster they didn’t find guys that are going to be like true impact makers on a down to- down basis they got guys that are going to play a role guys on the defensive line that are going to be able to play NFL level you know uh you know caliber defensive line and they’re not going to be have the just the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers impose their will on them like you saw four games last year I’m just I’m I’m smitten over this defensive tackle group in large part because unlike last year’s group like this are you really I am you’re writing poems about I’m Smit about him bro I’m chat and candies JV and uh in the DL and then JV heart DL little arrow through it so the way if you haven’t been to safe from Stadium the way it’s set up for training camp um in Glendale is they have position work group and one of the closest to not only the media but the crowd on the vi on the home side is the defensive line group so every year we’re right there bow and I Damon dog and we can see two groups the running back and the defensive line group the defensive line group was just not an an NFL caliber group last year it was not huh and then you watch it I’m like man we’re in trouble and then they were in trouble and then the guys that they counted on went down I look at this group now Jones Blau Nicholls Darius Robinson Dante T Stills all have a common denominator they do not miss games they have high floors I trust John and Ganon to get the most out of that group I feel really good about that and some guys like Jones Etc have had success elsewhere feel good about that Darius Robinson first round pick feel good about that Dante Stills a jam of a sixth-rounder there’s potential out the ass with that group pass rusher I know what Dennis Gard is isn’t what he isn’t Victor D mcki no thank you Jesse Letta pass it is all standing on a converted inside linebacker who hit a wall last year and a kid out of Baton Rouge who came into camp out of shape because he was coming off major injury that had a couple nice pressures and that’s it so I I will to a lesser extent agree with this article that if you could go back in time and just say you know what I’m going to open up the checkbook I’m going to open up the wallet let’s make sure that we check a box at pass rusher I’m sure that they’re going to draft a pass rusher next year I’m sure they’re going to be in that market why because I just I don’t think this group is good enough for I hope I’m wrong to get this team to where they want to be yeah no and I’m with you there uh I honestly I’m concerned that you can’t get all the way to the to the draft to to fill that neat like I I think that there’s there’s a possibility there’s a scenario uh in a in a harsh reality where you’re going to have to maybe try to revamp that room on the fly like even if BJ oari pops like C can we truly realistically anticipate like both of zav Collins and BJ oari taking that necessary step I I think I think I hope so a lot that’s asking a hell of a lot and talking to RS today and he’s bullish on those guys he likes both of those guys like zav Collins is beloved and there’s a lot of excitement around him and a lot of excitement around BJ oari and you know you talk about the defensive line like Nick race is is excited about getting LJ Coler who you know unlike the rest of the group he played one game he was done he’s a former first rounder but they they certainly see something in Coler to where you know he was going to be a starter for them Beyond just the season opener against Washington he was their best defensive lineman through Camp last year and then they wanted they brought him back this past off season to uh to compete and be a part of that rotation so like you know the defensive line will get into it you know probably tomorrow or next week in our position previews but is it’s a it’s a revamp room and one of the guys that came back from last year was somebody that they felt like they they were robbed of a chance of of seeing play big and significant snaps for him in 2023 yeah let us know in the chat did the Cardinals fail to spend enough for you I think like again this this article didn’t specify where they wish they would have spent more like you and I are on the same page the the chat I feel like is on the same page like nobody wants to see them overspend offensively Robert hunt Calvin Ridley quarterback group Shawn Murphy bunting’s a nice free agent corner and then they have two developmental guys they took on they two of the draft that they’re high on they did enough in my opinion a defensive T it’s really all about pass rusher it should be the Cardinals did not spend enough as an at an edge rusher that’s what it should be but they don’t feel as confident as we do with the rest of this roster jarro Reese $5 Super Chat Monty has already earned an extension leave out the names and five picks in the top two rounds of his draft have been OT Edge wide receiver defensive tackle cornerback premium times five well it’s on a good trajectory Jared now those those picks have to hit would say like we need at least three of those five to hit but I’m with you like if John Man O for make the playoffs this year like I have no I have no issue saying yeah let’s add some years to the back end of names are Jaylen Thompson and Buddha Baker bow uh as we continue our offseason preview here position groups uh safety group unequivocally probably the deepest position group on the team or certainly the most topheavy and then you add a certain fourth round pick uh that the Cardinal selected this year at top the fourth round the Cardinals feel good about their safety Group B how do you feel about this Trio entering 2024 I think it’s the most like set it and forget it group on the roster and that’s where it was last year I know you had to deal with a couple injuries here in there but you know as far as consistent play non-stop motor you know it’s talking to race today and he said I said you know what’s the identity of of your defense motor and violence that describes both Buddha Baker and Jaylen Thompson and you know as they did their ESPN rankings of different positions they rolled out safety today so NFL execs coaches and players partic I’m sorry Scouts they they had still a ton of respect on bud Baker’s name despite not having any pass deflections or any turnovers that he caused last year just uh all tackling fuel player um he’s still ranked sixth on their list he’s a he’s a top 10 safety according to you know a collection of League exact Scouts in in coaches so ton of respect on his name kind of disappointed to not see our guy JT uh at least get an honorable mention in that situation but you know I like the two guys the two vets Sashi we’ll see if he continues to be around with this team and then the addition as you mentioned with Robert Taylor demerson out of Texas Tech who you know our guy Baldi was really high on Taylor demerson coming out of Texas Tech yeah it’s a group that has a lot of potential but also two proven Commodities uh and you mentioned ESPN ranking Buddha Baker sixth overall this is what they had to say he hasn’t dropped off at all as far as his ability to close on the football be disruptive play with physicality leadership football smarts Etc an NFL coordinator said the Cardinals defense really missed him early in the year when he missed a few games certainly no more than the Washington collapse bow or the Giants collapse I should say when he did not play that game uh as you mentioned Jaylen Thompson I think inexplicably left off this list the safety position to me is probably one of the biggest in terms of like love fests in the NFL we just hey let’s just go with guys we know Jaylen Thompson played like a top 10 safety last year Jaylen Thompson is an ascending player and not that budha Baker’s descending but a lot of the guys on this list are and I put it out there like I I stand by it my bold prediction this year is that Jaylen Thompson’s gonna lead the NFL in interceptions under John the Ganon like I think he’s gonna double down on what he did last year and put themselves in a position to have a pro bowl caliber season and I like the players on this list but like Derwin James has not played what a full season like in a long time you know he hasn’t been a overly productive player had one interception last year I mean like I would take at this point Jaylen Thompson over him I would take him over yunga who got hurt last year you know Justin Simmons is a free agents unsigned yet he’s on this list like Jaylen Thompson well paid well compensated because he’s earned it he deserves it picked off CJ strad in the endzone last year he put a hit on CJ strad last year that knocked the wind out of him almost broke his ribs but again like Cardinals a lot of their personnel is foreign to the NFL landscape I think this is the coming out party officially year for Jaylen Thompson I mean what does he have to do at this point you look at him over since 2021 in the top five as far as uh total tackles and then he’s gotten his hands on the football in a top 10 capacity for safeties so I mean not even an honorable mention like he’s got a beat it over their head I our guy Joel saying you know if JT played for the ners he’d be regarded as one of the best safeties in the league and I completely agree with that sentiment it’s it’s pretty ridiculous that at this point you know now that he’s played so many years in this league he’s even received a pretty lucrative extension for his position at the time of signing that he he still doesn’t even from like exact Scouts and coaches that they’re not paying attention like I expected from from fans out there maybe not to know one of the the safeties on a team that’s won four games in back-to-back Seasons but you know Jaylen Thompson continually F flies on the radar and I think it plays to an advantage to the Arizona Cardinals certainly but you know you wish that the guy would get his flowers he’s he’s going to be 26 this year like I feel like he should be approaching 30 but he’s he’s just gotten you know he it was his his year 25 last year and he was playing maybe at the highest level we’ve seen him play even though like you didn’t see him hit a hundred tackles on the season you know uh but he had close to 80 and he got his hands on a bunch of footballs last season yeah I mean four interceptions he’s got nine in his career but I think the the statistics that stand out to me is just across the board he sacks the quarterback he has a force fumble he’s got almost 80 total tackles last year you mentioned the four picks right he’s got nine passes defense he’s just he’s a field General and like they mentioned ESPN did like did Baker like his closing speed and that’s what he’s known for he’s yeah one of the sound most sound tacklers in the NFL and he’s known to intercept the football once in a while I do think at this point though like Jaylen Thompson to me is the more well-rounded player I think Jaylen Thompson has better ball skills at this stage he’s just younger he’s younger and more athletic at this point I think Buddha means more to the Cardinals from a a heart standpoint leadership standpoint and good hell you you want both on your team if you can get it but again the upside this year is with JT because I believe he’s got a head coach play the position that is a king maker for defensive backs and speaking of defensive backs bow we heard from Nick RIS you did earlier today as it relates to Garrett Williams coming out of Syracuse his second year in the NFL I mean you couple Buddha and JT and rabbit out of the fourth round this year with some of these budding young players a cornerback suddenly you’re cooking with gas in this secondary yeah and we primarily saw JT or I’m sorry Garrett Williams play with the the two safeties right he was kind of that big nickel position uh and playing the slot but we knew that he could be more than that so I just ask race today like does he Envision you know a a p for Garrett Williams to stay on the field all three downs and he said absolutely I mean Garrett Williams a guy that can play all the positions in the defensive secondary and uh that he absolutely can earn a role um being potentially playing outside corner and or maybe down the road late in the season and somebody gets injured and they need somebody to jump in play outside corner that Garr Williams has that skill set in order to do so but uh I still think they like him you know when they’re not in their base and they’re in their nickel defense you know Garrett to play that that that spot and be there kind of with Buddha and JT and I I love that Trio there and if it’s if if he does have to get pushed to outside at any point you know you drafted the guy in rabbit that I think they like as well just probably not as big as a guy like Garrett Williams I think he he brings a lot to the table with with size and physicality and athleticism yeah I think we have that bite don’t we Damon uh this is RIS on the seconde corner out of Syracuse yeah absolutely gett has the ability to play honestly every position in the secondary so he 100% has the ability to go out there and earn a role to play so not much to it I mean he did elaborate a little bit later in the press conference and why he felt that way and it was just kind of echoed what I what I broken down there so you know Garett Williams I think is somebody that they’re always going to be high on and he he easily like acclimated and deared himself to that room right at of the gate as soon as he was healthy enough coming off his ACL tail tear from his Collegiate uh time Garrett Williams Jaylen Thompson got a couple things in common their style of play the way they take the football away they’re also under contract with Arizona post this year budy Baker is not so I want to round out our discussion with the safety group with this bow they drafted rabbit in the fourth round budha Baker’s quickly approaching 30 years old he got a pay raise last year but this is in fact his last year under contract with Ford and the Cardinals put your feet under the fire is this setting up to be Buddha Baker’s last year as an Arizona Cardinal it’s all going to be dictated but I think his play like if if he comes out and continues if he can get his hands on the football something that he hasn’t really truly done consistantly in his career but if he can change that and and he just turns heads as far as you know maybe his play matching what he already does as far as his preparation his process and how he leads you know his teammates I think that the Arizona Cardinals I mean He makes himself a bit undeniable but if you know if it’s if it’s the status quo if it’s something similar to last year and in this article you know pointing out like him getting getting to the ball carrier that that’s really that’s great but you know what they want to do as a defense is is first is is force turnovers and uh I think that there might be a bit of a disconnect between where you know I think bud is represent want to be in what they think he can continue to earn or what he should earn and what you know the Cardinals want to pay for what production or lack there of that they get from that position just feel like when when Justin Simmons is sitting out there as a street free agent in July and I mean we’ve always compared those two players I think Simmons might even be younger than budha Baker I mean that he’s an all-time great Denver Bronco doesn’t have a team right now and I would I would venture to say like the safeties on the Broncos are probably cheaper but they’re not as good as Justin Simmons it’s a it’s a tough position it’s a tough business right now I want to hear more from currently upfront the Cardinals they’re putting up a front of we’re sticking by the guys we have yeah uh talking to race and you know you’re getting thoughts as far as you know zavin Collins and he’s he’s seen zavin take a step in practice and in the spring and doing some things that he’s been asked to do basically everything I mean he’s he’s beloved by those guys and you know race mentioned that he and Coach Rodriguez their pass rush coach have a plan in place for him to be successful what they think he’s going to be successful and then know Nick RS talking a lot like Dennis Gard was earlier this week and how he’s he’s pumped to see BJ o jari in his second season here’s what RS had to say about BJ yeah um I thought BJ last year just was continuing to progress and get better throughout the year which is what you want everyone to do um I saw some things that I thought he took shrid this spring uh I was very pleased with things he did in the Run game I thought he improved I was challenging him consistently like hey I want you playing at this pad level or striking it like this and he would go out there and do it and so um I saw those strides that he was making this spring I want him to continue to build on that um I’m excited where he’s going you can tell with Ras like his BJ’s peer is like Gard heaping praise whereas race and even a little bit of JG it’s like yeah he’s got some stuff to work on we’re working him with him on that and I think that’s just out of respect for the veterans that they have and the fact that listen BJ o jelar has the most potential of that group that’s why he was drafted the highest I mean I know zav was the first-rounder but a different position but like if they’re going to be successful like it just feels like a mandate like o Jar’s got to be the guy he’s 22 years old played the position in college he played at the highest level in the SEC he started for LSU’s defense if you remember this as an 18yearold in the SEC it’s just unfathomable so to me it’s like they feel I’m sure a responsibility like whatever you get and they won’t ever say this publicly from zavin Collins you’re going to be happy with great player great human being locker room guy wasn’t your pick ability is not to save Z Collin’s career your responsibility let’s get the most out of him it’s his last year of his contract and let’s see what happens in 2025 your responsibility you and Austin Ford to develop BJ o jalari you use the top 45 pick on o jalari he can’t not produc for this team right and there there there’s got to be a certain amount of pressure on the coaching staff to take they’re both their most physically gifted players yeah regardless if zaven is is their in their draft class or not but when you look at the pass rush position to get them in a position to produce because like and what zaven and oel AR to do in turn is make themselves undeniable to where they aren’t any longer like I know there’s a rotation to this but they aren’t just coming off the field to just give a a different diverse look because that might give you an advantage over the guys being out on the field you know in in more of a full-time capacity and I’m not saying like they need to play 60% of the snaps that’s not I don’t think that you’ll ever see that but like they need to be your primary pass rushers when the game’s on the line and the the posing offens is on the field and they look across and you’ve got Z Collins and BJ gari is the guys who’ve earned their role to be out there to pin their ears back and and make a play like that has to happen otherwise like if it’s a rotation of you know I know you can get to gard and he’s got his case and then you got but then you get to like the Victor dumi or the lettas or the Cameron Thomas’ or the Tyreek Smiths then like then that becomes a bit of an indictment on you know did this former first rounder and I know he’s he was drafted as ball linebacker in Collins in this top 50 pick in BJ oari like were were they the right picks or they just going to be good players in in a in a rotation yeah I just I feel like in a perfect world you would have an alpha at pass rusher oeli would be your two zav Collins would be your three and and you’d be able to mix and match maybe that’s still a reality for them but again I I feel like like we talk about the players offensively that they’ve draft Paris now Marvin and it’s like yeah we feel like they can shoulder that workload speaking of Marvin I know RIS had a little bit to say about the fourth overall pick he certainly did but our chat continues to kill it I like the uh the Jonathan the Johnny venerable myths going out there like Alpha Mel JB saying post 999 JB could run a four 43440 time uh and also that put JV in at left guard watch K1 throw 40 touchdowns bajar bajaro saying that JB’s the best linebacker since Joe Montana or was it Joe Montana I can’t remember Joe Mont I believe I I feel like it’s gonna get to a point where I’m gonna be like hey zav step aside let me show you this get off that I’ve got oh yeah yep you are you’re a technician out there that’s what that’s what I’ve heard about your past rush skill set no I mean is it iron sharpening iron we’ve certainly heard that you know anytime any young DB you and I have talked to Johnny uh has as mentioned like the matchups in OTAs and what they’re looking forward to in training camp is matchup against Marvin Harrison Jr and Nick race you know talked about that what it’s like going up against Marvin Harrison Jr in practice and uh race certainly kind of fuels the fire a little bit with Marv out there and this is what what he gets uh on the practice field um I can’t speak for other DCS but he’s a tough he’s a tough uh cover in practice I know that but he’s going to make us better better which I’m excited about so um he definitely made some plays this spring um I definitely talk a lot of smack to him uh and then I go tell the DBS I said hey guys I just talked to loud smack so you better go back me up out there in practice so um it’s fun to it’s fun to see him out there on the practice field and competing against him is going to make us better how do you like that your coach going out there and and firing up Marvin Harrison Jr before practice and and you’re just trying to acclimate to the NFL level as what the hell manavis goes out there as the seventh rounder and just is like just you know I’m looking to just compete and then Nick rales comes up just like I just told Marvin that you were coming after him so you you better ready to play trying to make the team and and then you’re going hey I just told Marv that you said that you’re gonna dominate him in practice today I told Marv that they shouldn’t have held the line for you could you I told Marv Joe alz looking pretty good right about now down what is more horrify I I I guess the answer is trying to block you know Darius Robinson that’s more horrifying but can you imagine like a more daunting task than trying to backpedal against Marv like to just sit there in a you know a two-point stance or a DB stance and have to backpedal and press Marvin Harrison Jr and just get tossed aside like a ragd doll like he is so physically gifted and so enormous for the position like I just it’s like I’m I’m hopeful that obviously it’s going to make Max Melton and Garrett Williams and Shawn Murphy bunting better but I mean it’s reason enough go to training camp watch what the show he’s gonna put on because I love the Cardinals DBS there’s no one on Mars level in my opinion with like a skill set that can hang with him even though Max Melton did a hell of a job at Ruckers I should say that yeah yeah he did he he probably held Marvin Harrison Jr to his most modest game of his Collegian career and that’s that’s pretty legit and he didn’t have his DC out there in Marv’s ear trash talking him before in motivating him any more than he had to it was interesting so then Danny Sak of cardinals asked like okay so if Marv’s not talking trash back like who is and rs uh kind of gave us some insight into the offensive players trash talk he’s pretty quiet I’d say Mike Wilson trash dor dor Trash Talk be back uh pretty pretty good me and dor go back to Wake Forest together so um I love talking talking smack to the offense James Conor um love talking fro the old line oh I love getting after the o line oh I tell whatever we’re not going to do that day I’m I’m telling them like guys we’re ripping zeros all day you’re not going be to pick it up and we just four minute rush all day you know just mess with their heads man I love talking SM to the offense huh doesn’t surprise you about George at all no just going out there getting open and letting people know about it he mentioned James Connor and I this goes back to like my staunch commitment to James Conor and what could be his swans song year you remember last year against I think it was the ners where he like basically threw hands at yunga their safety like before the game or during the game like that’s that’s what you need from James Conor like he the car I’m not going to say the Cardinals had very few Alphas last year but how many enforcers do they have like they have more now he’s a true enforcer trash talker on the team where he can back it up he’s a physically imposing individual like I I think now you would consider like I think Jonah Williams fits that qualification Paris darus Robinson line of your line of scrimmage players but James Conor like he can talk all the [ __ ] he wants when he’s elevating Patrick Peterson in the air with a stiff arm in Pittsburgh last year he’s throwing them into the Three Rivers there in Pittsburgh oh it’s uh yeah I mean there’s certainly the intimidation and and you love to hear that the trash shock is flown on the offensive side of football and I think they they they have everything that they they need to back it up yeah then I hear the DC for for the Cardinals is out there having some fun running his mouth chirp chirp chirping and that’s great do they have do they have the the Personnel to to to back it up and and that’s what the one of the biggest question marks here in the middle of July going into 2024 training camp is going to be can they be Scrappy can the defense be some Scrappy guys just I hate this term I’m gonna St it on this I hate everything you’re saying right now I know all the cliches are coming out of me can it be a lunch paale defense just come in with a lunch paale dare I say blue collar mentality where you’re coming in on Any Given Sunday and it’s just like you don’t know who the [ __ ] we are NFL we’re gonna hold this opposing team to under 24 points our offense has stars upon stars all the highest paid players outside of our safeties reside on our offense our front sevens the Mac Wilson of the world and the zav Collins and the Justin Jones we’re gonna announce ourselves with our play this year I hope so but again if and I’ve said this from the start if I’m going to double and triple down with an unknown defense I want to do it with a head coach that specifies as a specialty on the defensive side of the football yeah like Robert Salah and the Jets are abysmal offensively but hey they got a great defense they got great defensive Personnel they can’t score points they go trade for Aaron roggers the Cardinal strength as a team is an offense so by default I love that their head coach can just say you know what we’re gonna Elevate the defense me and Nick R we’re gonna get this defense to where people do not think it can go I think that’s the best combination you can have I think the one thing you can say about this group that you couldn’t say about last year’s group is that they actually now have talent um on every level of Defense right like the defensive line you’ve got a guy you can make your case for a couple but I think I keep on falling back to Darius Robinson and like I asked RS today he’s like are you having to do the same thing with Darius that JG says he’s doing with Marv that away from the facility you gotta kind of like re him in because he’s work he’s putting in too much work and in so many ways he said yes uh he’s never going to tell somebody not to work that hard but at the same time that’s the type of guy that Darius Robinson is and then you couple that with the skill set and size um you know you got a player on your defensive line and then like you know the pass rush you hope it’s BJ jari and then like the the linebackers the off ball linebackers like he talked about Mack Wilson today we’ve been sleeping a little bit on Mac Wilson I I I can’t wait to see ma Wilson play in the Cardinal uniform you know is heing offall linebacker playing everything man he’s I mean he’s on third down he could potentially Rush maybe that’s one of their solutions to supplementing the pass rush I think like we don’t this show doesn’t buy too much into the PFF ratings but like ma Wilson scored very highly as far as PFF probably he would have been the highest on one of the highest on the team and you know what he did in New England last year in a contract year was pretty damn impressive and he brings a lot of energy he’s one of those first first guys in uh on the team and just wants to be great and you couple him with kazir white like I I like that under the radar off ball linebacker group and then you know you look at the the defensive backs and the safeties like you can find guys that can can make plays for you now where last year is like you just like go out just drop to to your knees and pray that somebody can make a play or get them off the field yeah I they’re not the same in terms of like their physical attributes but I look at somebody like Kyle vano in his Heyday for New England when he left Detroit would do everything for that team could cover could rush the passer plays little off ball linebacker he’s about 6 foot three 250 255 Mack Wilson’s couple inches shorter but about 245 like I Envision like Jack of all trades somebody that I mean honestly it’s what we envisioned for one Isaiah Simmons that it just didn’t work out but I think we know like ma Wilson football junkie and I’ll tell you what man Cardinals have had had a hell of a time with their transfers from not only New England from Cleveland I mean Mt Wilson was a draft pick from Cleveland obviously the folks pets and Company must know feel comfortable with him so I I think right now at the end of the day like that’s that’s a position group with Chris Barnes coming back who played really good for this team last year after kazir white went down that’s a group that again slept on has a bunch of Savvy veterans not making a ton of money like that’s important like all these guys are making two three four million million dollar you’re not wasting first round picks on offb lurkers anymore like this is a team that they’re going to use as our chat outlined earlier premium picks on front seven players line of scrimmage players and then everything else Taylor demerson safety in the fourth round Mack Wilson under you know undervalued free agency we’re going to supplement and pluck guys that fit our scheme so again like it’s crazy we sit here like 10 days before training camp 80 plus percent of this roster I feel really good about based on the coaching the Personnel there’s just a couple little hiccups I think could keep this team from making the postseason this year just a couple yeah and look they’re they they could become very glaring once the regular season opens up and you hope even in in training camp when they’re only facing each other or going into the preseason that people start to emerge and start to turn some heads and you’re like oh okay now I feel more comfortable about that 10 to 15% that you were a little like uneasy about yeah we’re not uneasy about our trip to Miami you shouldn’t be either you should be
