Detroit Pistons Summer League is UNDERWAY!

Detroit Pistons Summer League is UNDERWAY!

now it’s my turn to give Kool-Aid some love because he’s going to Vegas he’s going to the summer league and I want to hear about this experience Kool-Aid I know there hasn’t been a lot since the bicker staff press conference um or in the last week since maybe it was the Beasley signing or the Paul Reed signing so now you get to go out and watch these young guys in Vegas what what’s your goal of this like what what what are you doing out in Vegas I’m just looking to see Trends habits who they are as workers who they are off the court as well and to be able to connect to who they are as people also that to me is very very key because when you look at someone like a like an assar Thompson or a k Cunningham being able to get to understand who they are more as people you get to and and as who they are as workers you and you’re able to see that kind of translate on the uh on the court those are the types of things that translate to the NBA so it’s like it’s not much that I’m going to take away from you know summer league performance he can go out there and he can drop 50 and it would be like yo that’s awesome I need to see this in the n ba not in the preseason but during a regular season or he can go out there like Ron Holland our fifth overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Detroit pit could go out there and score zero I just want to see him go out there and play hard I want to see him go out there and play defense play smart be about the team those are the types of things that I’m looking forward to see Co and is Jared Jack Jr the co who’s the coach like what what’s the structure of this team a lot of I guess the g-league is or or the g-league ignite is the G League’s no more or no well the g- league ignite is going away gotcha but the G league is uh G League exists G League ignite is not right got you so so Jared Jack’s the coach these are not just rookies but they’re sasser’s playing some seconde players um you got Sasser you got Bobby Clinton their second round pick who they uh took I think 37th overall as well they traded up for him so that’s another player that I’m interested in seeing they got a lot of different forwards on this team a lot of kind of rangy 67 to 69 610 guys who can all play kind of that tweener Wing role are they all present some type of three andd potential as well so it’s like I’m not walking away from you know this summer league whether Ron Holland shoots well or not or Bobby Clem I’m not walking away disappointed in who they are as ball players like I said I’m looking to see who they are as workers they’re just getting drafted just now all the work they put in after summer league is where I’m looking to see the gains being made but right now let’s just see what your what like the idid the DNA the identity of who you are do you fit the mold of what we heard JB bicker sta say uh he was looking for in his team do you fit the mold that we heard traan Landon uh say it’s like with assar Thompson we saw it right away we knew that guy fits with Kade we knew that guy fits with durren we knew that guy fits my God Ivy and Stu we knew those guys have it to whatever degree they um they show it it’s all going to come down to the work that happens after summer league but um shout out to assar Thompson as well he is medically cleared he will be in summer league but his Omission from the roster um was because of the blood clot issue that he was dealing with uh but he will be he will be uh practicing and uh working out with the team love it love it yeah you want to see how how the young guys and sometimes it’s hard to tell just on TV which is why I’m excited that you’ll be joining us on Monday and Tuesday from Vegas on the show but to see how coachable these young players are and I say that you want to see them make progressions from game one of Summer League to the end like that winning doesn’t matter you want to you want to learn play with the team and win the game but is is Bobby Clinton the mistakes he makes in game one does he take the lessons that Jared Jack and the staff are are teaching him does he improve on those in the short sample size from the start start of summer league to the end it doesn’t need to be astronomical gains or or huge changes but just the fact that they understand what it takes to not just make it to the NBA but now that you’re there taking uh uh taking what you can from veteran coaches like Jared Jack has been around the NBA as a player and as a coach as an assistant coach but you got to take what you can from these guys and and develop or or figure out where the holes in your game are during this summer league so that as well as where the potential might lie as well you know as a coach with the scouts with the development team there this summer league gives you an opportunity to put players in positions to be able to stretch who they may be as a player and you’re able to see different potential points is what they did with Jed and Duran as well uh put them in some positions that they might not be playing right away in the NBA but it gives you some type of Arc that you’re able to put this player on as it relates to the development so that in year two year three year four you can see this player adding more and more discernable skills when I look at El Horford in his career I don’t know how long he had the outside shooting or didn’t but I know that he didn’t take a lot of Threes to start his career no but as the NBA was kind of making this shift in this trend the work that was put in based on the level of detail that his scouting Department saw this guy all of a sudden turns into a three-point shooter and I don’t know how a reliable three-point shooter it’s kind of like throws it shout out to Grand Ledge Michigan man and no horf no I I know Florida Legend he’s from Michigan Grand Ledge yeah that’s right he’s brother went to Michigan yeah John with an N John Horford John Horford yeah his sister a I love that you run into them like the the hoop they’re like you know some of these legendary hoop families man in Michigan all right all right is last question you asked I know this was just going to be a quick segment but is there how much scouting goes on at this from like a trade perspective are are are the coaches evaluating other players other teams like the offseason’s not over yeah people are talking it’s not just the scouting of the players on the floor the players that are there um the ones that will be scouted for trades are going to be your older players a third year or fourth year player who you got to make a decision on their contract and you might just want to get just a quick look at this player before you decide if you want to bring them in and go through that training camp with this player or not but that’s that’s kind of rare what winds up happening I believe in some of these conversations with some of the scouts is that all of the inail and all of the conversations that you’ve had in a more business formal setting all of a sudden people are kind of boots on the ground face to face sitting next to each other watching the next you know batch of prospects that are going to take over the NBA and allows you to just be able to kind of have a conversation on the different players that you might be intrigued or interested in and so yeah there’s that type of stuff that goes on to what degrees who know who knows who knows what coola you will be join you’re going out there Sunday so you’re going to be coming back Wednesday going to be joining us Monday and Tuesday we’ll figure out the right time in the show make Wednesday work so I can people the podcast 100% we’ll make it work as much uh anytime we can get you on camera in Vegas it’s going to be fun man last year the one thing that stuck out from me uh from being there last year were how many Detroit Pistons supporters there are that’s why I’m going to continue to use this word when I refer to Detroit Pistons fans you guys are sickos man the amount of people the video still on the wber Pistons Channel we went live several times just running into Detroit Pistons fans down there who are excited about what this team could be and obviously I’m hoping they’re even more optimistic with treaser Lon and JB bicker staff but I’m looking forward to running into you Detroit Pistons fans any content we get obviously we’re going to definitely feature it here on wake up wber via wward Sports so [Music]
