Ivan Demidov *CHANGES EVERYTHING* for the Canadiens…

a couple weeks back the Montreal Canadians were lucky enough to draft ion deav fifth overall and folks it still doesn’t feel real and today we’re going to be going through just how good Ivan demidov could be for the Montreal Canadians how he fits into their system and most importantly how he’ll change that franchise will he finally be able to complete that rebuild and be that major piece going forward for them well make sure you watch till the end as we break down every part of de’s game and how he can translate to Montreal in the future and if that subscribe but forie for more Montreal more hockey content just like this all throughout the offseason now sorry for the lack of updates over the last couple of weeks since free agency y’all went on a big vacation a ton of fun now we’re back here ready to go and today we’re going to go through some demov talk which is one of my favorite topics as you guys should know by now I’m a huge Ivon demov fan he’s somebody that I ranked second overall in my Prospect rankings and was somebody that I was rooing for Chicago to take second overall they ended up going for leov which I could absolutely see the reasons why but Montreal got extremely lucky to get this type of presence at fifth overall to me it was one of the best picks if not the best value pick in the entire first round and saying that at fifth overall it’s saying quite a bit they seems like every year during the draft process the Montreal Canadians love to Cloud the Judgment out there and they really do seem to use media in a very special way you could tell back in the 2022 draft how Shane Wright was the consensus first overall guy and even after the draft lottery there really wasn’t much to shake that until the last couple weeks really of the draft season where y slav kosi ultimately became the favorite and eventually was the first overall pick by Montreal the 2023 draft especially was a lot of smoke and mirrors we heard a lot about their interest in matkov and him being a player that was really likely to be the pick we also heard Ryan Leonard a ton as well leading up to the draft aler dorski was also in play there too but ultimately somebody that we really didn’t hear much about Montreal’s interest in David reinbacher will ended up actually being The Pick of fifth overall out of nowhere seemingly Ryan Bacher was the pick but I think the whole time Ryan Bacher was somebody Montreal really did like and they were throwing up these other players to Media to kind of cloud the whole judgment and whole narrative here really this is just a fancy trick the Montreal uses with especially the media to try and deter other NHL teams to try and trick other NHL teams to think they like one player just to go for another player in the app early on in the draft process we heard Montreal’s liking for a player like Michael BR Zig nouar who ended up being DRFT at 15th overall to Detroit he was really the early favorite especially as Montreal was kind of in that more 8 to 10 range in the start of the Season you also had interest in Cole Ean naturally and somebody that at that time who was projected to be more of a second third fourth overall pick fit pretty naturally with where Montreal would end up finishing he also had the pretty logical conclusion that they did like a player like Kane lindström who ultimately went a slot further ahead of them at Fourth overall to Columbus who I still think would have been a really interesting Edition by Montreal but not Ivon dead off but as the draft season continued it was te ginla that was really the main favorite especially after the draft lottery as Montreal confirmed to have that fifth overall pick again them was looked at as maybe the most realistic option considering the Habs really apparent interest in him and also the fact that their position was around where tacha was starting to go he was somebody that really trended well in the second half of the Season had a fantastic WHL playoffs and he’d only go just after the Montreal pick at 6 overall to Utah so not too far off but then we continue to hear more about a bunch of different guys Becket CA was also somebody that with his monstrous OHL season was really looking like an option for Montreal and somebody they were really looking towards and really looking for on the forward side he was somebody that really was a wild card in this draft and he really was going third overall to Anaheim Montreal didn’t even have the option to reach for Becka senica the Ducks already did but then towards the draft we started hearing more and more about defenseman Zan perk was somebody we started to hear a lot about a potential option for the Habs Z buum was also somebody that we heard a lot about potentially going to Anaheim potentially going to Montreal too if they wanted to go for a lefty and we heard a lot about him especially heading up to draft day which makes him dropping to 12 overall just that much more surprising I still can’t believe that but ultimately just like every other year the smoke and mirrors were there completely and there really wasn’t a lot of talk in my opinion about ion demidov actually being the guy for Montreal there was some chatter here and there that if he was there that he could be the pick but there was a lot of talk about a defenseman being picked about a senica or a t ginla being the pick there that demidov really truly wasn’t the focus but of course the Montreal Canadians in my opinion made the right decision getting getting him at fifth overall and with everything else all of the craziness around all these other prospects they went for the best player available and this is what I’m talking about now with Montreal because I honestly from here on out cannot trust anything that anybody says about the Habs especially leading up to the draft because all of it is smoking mirrors all of it I think is pretty purposeful by the Montreal organization to try to get these fake rumors out there to try to spread things that aren’t true so they can get their guys in the end and especially in this case it worked and to me almost throughout this entire draft proc says demov was exactly the type of player that I wanted to see Montreal draft and especially on draft day he was in my opinion their best case scenario obviously celebration wasn’t going to be there but if they were going to draft anybody and have it be a home run it was demidov and for me personally he fits this Montreal system so perfectly what did they need what did Montreal truly need going forward I thought they needed a gamebreaking pace pushing electrifying offensive piece and demod is that to a te and especially when we looking towards that 2024 NHL draft to me Montreal made such a right decision here especially when you consider how good he could be compared to his peers I would not be surprised that when it’s all said and done every one of these players are retired that demidov is the highest point producer that he’s number one among everybody I also wouldn’t be surprised if celebr is the best overall player potentially wins a couple of Cups but I do think in demidov’s case you’re getting potentially the best point producer the best offensive talent and to me that’s exactly a fifth overall the type of bet you want to make I don’t thinka or Lindstrom are going to get there I think they’re both going to be pretty great players but in demidov’s case the offense potential there I think he could become one of the highest scoring players over the last 5 years he could be just that good I think in general Montreal couldn’t really have asked for a better first round him Michael ha are two brilliant picks there in the first but in demidov’s case specifically I think he changes that franchise so much they went from a team that’s going to have a great defense good goal ending decent scoring to a team that I think has a lot more of an overall group and can actually compete offensively that was really the main worry for me especially going over and skipping on meob drafting David Ryan Boer instead is that even though the defense is going to be very good and very complete very balanced I thought that offensive game would have been a little bit lacking especially at the time with Sosi not really breaking out in a major way yet there really wasn’t too much confidence for me at least that Montreal would have all the top and offense they needed to win a Stanley Cup even though I still think it’ll be a little bit hard even with demod I think he solves a a lot of problems with this Habs team you look at the top end and even though there’s a couple of prospects here that haven’t made the show yet like a Philip masar and Owen Beck really the top end guys here without demov included were going to be slavoski Suzuki Coffield maybe a new hook Kirby doc those were going to be like the core guys going forward and I still thought they needed to add somebody I still think they could add another top six piece but to me now if ion demidov whether you play him on the left or the right to me is almost irrelevant you could play him wherever you want him to play he can produce he can produce electricity he can produce big moments and big stages and to me that’s exactly what Montreal needs they needed another game breaker they needed somebody that could really push for point point per game plus offense and easily and I think demov is exactly the type of player that I would not be surprised to see hit 90 100 points someday to me besides celebrini and even sometimes surpassing celebrini to me I think sometimes demov has the most offensive potential of this draft class and again if we’re talking about team needs organizational needs Montreal needed somebody like that and they got it here now talking about deav and what he could be for the Montreal Canadians I mean you see what he’s been able to do in his draft year at two point per game of the regular season is just ridiculous for a player his age and in the playoffs he kept up the momentum putting up some big plays in some big moments and just was able to thrive in every single situation there is the question marks there of the MHL play and it is soft I will say that there’s no denying that the MHL is not a great league but I also think demov is exact type of character and player to overcome that to instantly be a great pro pro player because I think there were some habits especially earlier on the season that I didn’t quite like there was a point this year in my draft process where I had him more as the fifth best Prospect in this draft rather than number two but he was able to shore up a lot of the defensive mistakes act a lot more engaged on breakouts and a lot more engaged in the defensive Zone he’s somebody that I think really showed a lot more character in improving his attributes and improving his weaknesses that’s something that I really wanted to see out of D it off in the second half and he absolutely brought that I thought he was his best in the playoffs where he was just putting up speed and putting up offense everywhere throughout the ice and really proving himself that he can do more than just score he can do more than just de that’s was one of most important things for demidov to prove and he proved that in the second half that’s why I have little worries of demidov transitioning onto the pro game because his character and his work ethic has already been proven to be a massive strength and also if how Montreal has drafted with the past couple years very openly caring about character and really prioritizing that if it was an issue in demidov’s case I don’t think they would have drafted him so you combine all these factors over the lack of character issues over his growth in height as well over the last year going a couple inches bulking up quite a bit and also the Improvement on his weaknesses at a young age the second half Improvement even in a soft League like the MHL demal was able to show more effort more consistency throughout the year and not slag which I think is something that is very important you want to see growth and development demidov has continued to grow he’s not one note anymore and to me that is so important for his development going forward really the only main issue here is just how open demov actually is to coming to North America because there might be a situation here where in his last year in Russia he might not get the ice time that he truly wants because he’s obviously not a long-term piece of the future that to me is maybe the biggest concern is that this next year might be a little bit hard for development if he gets little minutes in the C KHL or if he’s just stuck in the MHL again I don’t think it’s a deal breaker I don’t think it’s something that really hampers his development too much but that is something that might be a factor especially for Montreal who likes to have control over their players demidov is going to be somebody that they’ll have little control up but I think that term is the major thing only having one year left on this contract is to me the most important thing here because even if that season goes horribly wrong or something and he has to play another season in the MHL again I don’t think that’s a huge concern especially if he goes back and really works on improving his complete overall game I think there might be still a lot of adjustments especially when he comes to the pros comes to nor from America but I do think he’s somebody that still with the talent he has is going to overcome that eventually it’s not this fiveyear thing where they have no control over him and there’s no ice time there to handle with in demidov’s case even in the worst case scenario I still think he’ll be incredible for Montreal now here’s the thing let’s say that demidov goes and plays in the MHL full-time next season that his KHL team doesn’t get the confidence there then I do think he require another season of seasoning in the AHL to really get adjusted to the Pro game Maybe I’m Wrong there maybe demov is instantly the star there but I would not be surprised if he has to require a little bit of pro seasoning to get adjusted completely especially North American ice it is a major adjustment there with the smaller ice with the closed gaps it’s going to be a lot harder for deob to find that open space but if he does play in the KHL immediately if he is able to get a good amount of pro games get the same amount of opportunity that I’m having did this last year and I can absolutely see demov being a player that steps into the NHL after next season and is immediately an impact forward like Matthew meob will be for Philly and in that situation where everything goes right for his development I could see demov instantly being a CER candidate I don’t think he’ll immediately put up 80 100 points but I think this is the exact type of guy that could really fit into your middle six effortlessly with the talent he has there especially with power play time that guy is going to be feasting I don’t care if it’s the NHL on the man Advantage deid is instantly going going to be a major factor and I do think by year two if everything goes right you could see demov on potentially a line of new hook and Doc and those three would be absolutely monstrous you can even have him on the first line you could be versatile with him you could be kind of have him in a sheltered role perhaps with aosi Suzuki or a Coffield Suzuki whatever you want to end up doing to me you could just go in any direction to me I think most likely soski Suzuki demidov is kind of the perfect line for Montreal to have I think Cofield being bumped down maybe is best for everybody I still think that Coffield Suzuki is somewhat of a pairing that hasn’t worked too much especially at five on five but I think those two off each other with more support on each line could be perfect for the Habs and I think Suzuki with deob would just be so much fun man but if we’re talking about Peak if for talk about what demov can be for the Habs to me he is the most talented forward the most talented offensive player Montreal has had maybe in decades that’s how good demidov can be for this Montreal Squad and how much of of a Difference Maker he can be too I think this is really the missing link already with Montreal we know their defense is going to be stacked I’m a big fan of Jacob Fowler I think is going to be a good starter in the future but now their top six going to have a Bonafide piece that will scare NHL teams shift by shift day in day out demov could be a monster and an X Factor for Montreal and I think eventually if things go right if demov is able to unlock the offensive talents do not be surprised if this is a 100o player in the future somebody that offensively can create can de can just make Wizardry with the puck that’s what demidov does best and it’s exactly what Montreal needed more of and exactly the type of offensive player the Montreal fans especially are going to love you guys are going to adore demov because this kid can play now it’s hard to really make comparisons in demidov’s case because he’s somebody that really doesn’t have a perfect comparison in the NHL he’s truly his own player and his own talents his own brand but I do think a player that kind of resembles him in terms of what the they’re able to do in the deaking ability it’s kind of Philip forsberg the things they’re able to create the things they’re able to do out of a whim are just incredible I do think he’s more of a point producer than forsberg is and maybe that relies on some of the team some of the players he has around him but like this year 94 points a little bit more of a playmaker than forsberg was this last year he’s somebody though I think just with the deaking ability with the offense he can create can be a top forward in this league a top Winger in this league just think forsberg in the deing ability a little more consistent a little bit more Point producing and especially in the power play just an offensive Menace let’s just hope that like forsberg Montreal does not trade him because that would be a mistake but it’s just so much fun to think about deav and the Montreal Canadians to think about that fit and just how good those two could be for each other deav is going to be an electrifying Talent man and I cannot wait to watch him in the show especially with Cofield with SLA with Suzuki there’s a great core coming up with Montreal but let know your thoughts Down Below on what you guys think about demov how much do you think he changes Montreal do you think he changes little do you think he changes everything how good do you think you will be and especially his prime how many points do you see him putting up I let know your thoughts down below of course make sure you hit that like button hit
