into each other all you got to do is just come and be here I’m going tell you what we’re going to do today we’re going to eventually work our way to talking about vulnerability on the roster now I know that sounds similar to something that I did before but it’s not the same thing even if it was y’all gonna listen again but it really isn’t the same thing that we did before I was talking about skepticism before now I’m just talking about vulnerability like okay I believe in the guys that they have that doesn’t mean it’s a weakness but if there was a weakness after we work through our work our ways through these 53 where would it be and the reason why I do that is because no team is perfect and no team can pick and and and be great at everything right it’s just not realistic so every team has his little bit of Achilles Hill and I’ll see if we can point out what that might be if you’re Jacksonville right in the middle of the show we’re going to talk about cuts and sleepers and they go hand in hand because you can’t have surprise Cuts without having surprise makes right so the sleepers that could possibly push some guys off of this team and maybe even into the trade market but first we’re going to start with the way too early 53 man roster and I got to admit I’m stealing this is not mine okay if it was mine it’d be easy to dissect and it’d be easy to sit here and puff my chest out and talk about how I know this is going to happen or that no this is my friend Demetrius Harvey he’s a friend of the show he’s been on the show he’s the beat writer for jacksonville.com for known as the Times Union the Florida times un but he’s the the beat writer for the the number one paper website media team here in uh Jacksonville Florida and uh he’s traveling right now so he couldn’t join me with the show but I told him I would use his uh all to early 53 man roster as a bit of a uh reference point for the things that we’re going to talk about here on the show today um and I necessarily it’s not about agreeing or disagreeing uh some of it is just uh okay Demetrius if that happens Oo we going to have some serious serious holes if that happens man there you know some things something might have to give right so yeah that’s that’s where we are right now with it but he did a really really good job on it and I wanted to make sure that we got uh I retweeted it on X but I wanted to really make sure that we got um a chance to kind of dissect that today so we will do exactly that one of the things that I immediately noticed um was that Demetrius only kept two quarterbacks and I felt like maybe with this new rule of some sort that what will happen is teams would keep three quarterback because you know they got CJ Beth they re-up him again and they always brag about CJ Beth and they always talk about how much they really like what he does and and this that and the third uh the thing is is though they went out and got M Jones and when they went out and got M Jones guess what that meant that meant that if they weren’t gon to keep three quarterback CJ Beth was going to be available Matt Jones has started a lot of games they probably had a real good book on him when he came out in the draft he started a lot of games and um I think he’s going to be a real big asset to have because doesn’t have any Illusions about who he is and what he is but I wish he quit Dancing on the uh on on on the uh on the field during drills but that’s okay he’s just having fun but yeah I just think it’s a it’s a good situation for them to have a guy who a HomeTown kid who is really really ready to um embrace the role of Trevor’s backup and I wouldn’t be surprised if he even though he wants to start again at some point that he considers this some sort of a a way of getting that long that long money when we see guys they’re seven eight nine years the head coach of our team was a backup for a long long time and everybody knows who he is uh because they trusted him enough that he was a backup for a long long time with some good organizations so there’s a way you can really maximize this and get paid and make you some money and also be uh an integral part of hopefully what he believes is going to be a really really good team so two quarterbacks Demetri has kept on this list and it surprised me a little bit I ain’t going to lie to you I I thought they would that they would absolutely keep three on the list I’ll tell you what um what he said about it he said this year the league adjusted to its third emergency quarterback rule to allow for practice squad quarterback to be called up and play on game day that makes it even more unrealistic for a team to retain the third quarterback so there you go he just answered that question and uh clarified it a little bit better than I did in my statements about whether or not I thought uh they were going to keep a third quarterback and Demetrius Des answer that question we’re going to get into these other positions also I’m going to tell you exactly who he kept and then I’ll tell you where the surprises are the sleepers and the cuts um that have been made on on on this team um something I want to picky back on before we keep doing this is this I did a podcast about how the The Narrative is changing and it did some really really nice numbers for me uh folks were talking about the narrative around the Jaguars and I just noticed that there was just this this little bit of you got to watch the agulation and you have to watch the the praise when it all starts coming in at one time for a team and there’s absolutely been nothing that has changed on the field workout wise practice wise there’s nothing that has changed uh nothing that of substance that has been done that could have changed or should have changed people’s opinions I did a show about it the other day and man my man Roo keeps pointing it out to me he say man you omnicient because everybody seems to be overly praising the Jaguars now and there’s nothing that has occurred to make them do that but then if you pay attention to it AO did it today on uh on Fox then they start changing well I think he’s G I think Trevor law is gonna live up to the money right I think he’s gonna live up to the $55 million but in order to live up to it you gotta get to the Super Bowl and I can’t rule the Jaguars out of a Super Bowl and when I said that that was moving the gold poost what I meant was people are going to start praising you just to try to build up a narrative that they then can take down and tear down once Trevor Lawrence outperforms their original opinion of him then it’s going to be well we knew that because I said it here but he’s not measured by that standard he’s measured by another standard it’s kind of what they’re doing in basketball I remember and I’m G just say this briefly I remember a few months back guys were like Caitlyn Clark’s the greatest player I’ve ever seen and people were like no she isn’t yes she is that’s when the argument started and then when she got to the league she’s like the best rookie right her and and Angel but then it’s like well she’s just a rookie no that’s what people were trying to tell you she’s not yet the best player in the world so that’s what I mean by a changing of the goal post is when you uh start praising somebody but now instead of just giving them credit for being who they were and saying that you were wrong now you just up the gopost a little bit and say well I’m going to praise him here but then this is what he needs to get to in order to earn this or that it’s just a weird way of doing things and like three days in a row now youve seen Jaguar players you saw Josh uh Joshua Hines Allen you saw see I got it right you saw Trevor Lawrence you’ve seen all of these players all over National media and all of these nice narratives that are coming out about them now where it’s two months ago you didn’t hear or see any of that stuff just find it real weird and I find it to be cool but all right I’m cool with a like a little bit of a yeah I’m I’m good with it I ain’t got no problem with it but I ain’t going to sit here and just uh do a handstand and do cartwheels just because some people have decided to shape things the way that they want them to be shaped without anything on the field changing their mind so the good thing uh Demetrius Harvey the beat writer for jacksonville.com he nailed it man I mean there was a couple of surprises here and he you know DEET you told me he don’t mind if I kind of tear him up chew him apart a little bit because that’s kind of what we do here we you know we do that a little bit we we go through each other stuff and we have uh some constructive criticism you ain’t trying to be right you’re just trying to give out the information to the fans because that’s what is really really super important that you guys get as much information as you can get and it you know kind of helps go along with the process a little bit in my opinion so let’s continue as we mostly along through U demetrius’s way too early uh 53 here um running backs well the four running backs that he take that he took on here it doesn’t surprise anybody it’s Travis etn of course it’s uh deest Johnson uh well he’s the third running back tank bsby is the second back and then it’s the rookie man and I keep telling people this kid is gonna make it Keen Robinson because of the kickoff rules and because of the amount of explosiveness that he actually adds um to the Jacksonville Jaguars so has four running backs and I don’t disagree with it six wide receivers and one of them caught me by surprise you ready for it let’s get down to it of course Christian Kirk is going to make the team of course Gabe Harris and of course btj Brian Thomas Jr are all going to be there Devin du is the number four guy Parker Washington is the number five guy so I said my six guy was uh one of the undrafted guys I got the wrong one he took Brevin Easton all right he also May mention a former second round pick Denzel Ms who will be in Camp and maybe he could play himself into the team the Jaguars will probably go with their younger players to retain their services and and this is according to Demetrius and I agree with you I just thought it was gonna be somebody else but as it turns out Demetrius um has guys like Elijah cook and and and um Tim Jones has them not making it there’s an uh the rookie out of Easton the rookie Easton well he’s out of Albany Albany same same place however that had Jared verse a couple of years ago before he went to Florida State so yeah that’s where he’s going he’s going with brevan Easton so I didn’t see much of him in um camp or in um in the off season but apparently he must have made a pretty good impression on Demetrius Demetrius also did something else here Demetrius hary that is of the um uh Florida Times Union or as we call it jacksonville.com Demetrius had them keeping three tight ends as opposed to four and this is where I differed a little bit as well but I get it and I understand all right so obviously um Evan Ingram Britton strange are all guys who uh Demetrius has them them keeping and of course he has I keep losing it he keeps popping up it keeps popping off on me here but of course Demetrius also had them retaining uh Luke frell who Luke played really really well I don’t know if uh Britton strange has taken over from Luke frell either I don’t believe he’s displaced I think Luke phoh is tight end too when they go to two tight ends I think strange still has a lot to prove um I I don’t think he’s done anything on the field to to take those um snaps away there’s some other players uh Sean Bowman Patrick merto Josiah dugar all of those guys but and even Doug Doug Peterson’s son is Josh is still on the roster but no I think three is fine I thought they’d keep four but it appears to me that three just might be the number when you look at this because you can’t keep everybody man you just can’t do it let’s get the offensive line and this is the critical unit that I talked about um in the last couple of days the offensive line is this is the one and I’m not going to give um I’m not going to give too much away here but this is the one that you’ll probably hear from me later when I talk about a little bit of vulnerability but it’s the unit that needs to show the most it’s the unit that needs to show the most they need to be able to run the football I talked about that yesterday when I mentioned the five things the Jaguars had to do and one of them is they need to be able to run the football better in short yarders and that helped the other well three of the other things if they do this it’ll help three of them and if they do all four of them it’ll help the fifth thing which is play better at home so we got cam Robinson Ezra Cleveland Mitch moris Brandon sheriff and Anton Harrison that is the anticipated starters in that group with Walker little being number six Javon Foster being a swing Guy Cooper hoders and Luke foron totally agree I mentioned that yesterday that Tyler Shatley and seven Jones and Blake Hans and Daryl Williams and kov Van lanon and guys like that they better battle because I I really do believe the keep nine it’s going to be the nine people that Demetrius Harvey mentioned here all right we’re going to do the defensive line I think we got time to do the defensive line we don’t need to push that back any further let’s at least do the defensive line where Demetrius had him keeping 10 guys 10 now this is also because they’re in an even front now so before when they would keep six or seven that was only like interior guys and maybe the the three four defensive end types it’s different now so we got Eric Armstead Devon Hamilton Roy Robertson Harris Josh Hines Allen Trayvon Walker those are your main five right after that Tyler Lacy Mason Smith Jordan Jefferson Trevis Gibson and Jeremiah Leber if there’s any push back from me on this is that they’ll keep nine instead of 10 because Eric Armstead can go inside out Roy Robinson Harris can go inside out um the addition of both Mason Smith and Jordan Jefferson along with Devon Hamilton and and then with them loving Travis Gibson as their fourth third or fourth true end this could mean that maybe lead better doesn’t make it because they that would give them a plethora of really really big guys so lead better may be the odd man out because he’s a young guy that they’ve had on this team for a while and now they have addressed it with two younger guys that are also the big profile players so if there’s one position Maybe you keep an extra offensive lineman or you keep an extra tight end maybe this is where they get a little bit of that wiggle room from and realize that okay if they get through Camp fine with Devon Hamilton uh Tyler Lacy uh Jordan Jefferson and of course Mason Smith then it would be a little bit redundant at that point to keep Jeremiah Le better all right so we have hit that we’ll come back hit the uh the middle group The linebackers and then the secondary and they we kind of put all the bow on it and talk about perhaps the vulnerabilities and um some things that you might have to look out for we’ll do all of that in just a second here on locked on Jaguars I have I let you mother Demetrius Harvey and so far so good we differ a little bit but for the most part we’re kind of there’s no space between us here we’re kind of on the same uh doesn’t surprise me by the way uh that we’re on the same page when it comes to it all right man let’s get to some linebackers linebackers Demetrius has them keeping five linebackers five of course without a doubt that would be Foy olak Khan right we know that Foy Olan is going to be there we know that Devin lyd is going to be there we know that Chad Muma is going to be there and we think ventrell Miller will be there along with he says Caleb Johnson I say at some point between lead better at defensive line Caleb Johnson at linebacker I’m thinking they find room for Yasir Abdullah and it ain’t because I like Abdullah it’s it’s it’s just the truth I I just think that there’s something I saw him play at Louisville and he was like the best player on their defense and then you got diabi and these other dudes they they playing all these significant man you can’t keep holding against Abdullah that he’s not built like a traditional player at any of these positions because he’s gotten to this point by being a hard worker he’s got to this point despite the fact that he’s kind of an in between player but he’s an in betweene player that spent a lot of time on the active roster last year and I think that has a lot to do with how they feel about him as a ball player so I’m going to give him a little bit more grace than that and say that that’s one of those battles too but this is the this is the part of the show where we were talking about Cuts surprises sleepers these are the dudes man that I’m telling you that have a chance to make some noise and Shake something up when you see one of these dudes doing that it’s like shaking a tree somebody else is going to fall somebody better watch out because when you have these young guys and we need these young guys to do this same thing this is the where the competition level goes up you might get some phone calls about some players where some people are short on something and they ain’t going to trade the young guy they’re going to trade the older guy who’s making all that money let’s get to the defensive backs starting with safety he has five being kept I might put this one at four because of Darnell Savage in his versatility He’s listed as a corner on this list I’m thinking Darnell Savage could be a swing safety perhaps if they have to get into their death so he kept four I’m going to well he kept five I’m Gonna Keep four I’m gonna keep his first four which is Andre Cisco Antonio Johnson Andrew Wingard Daniel Thomas Eric howlet was his last spot I just if I had my my DRS I would rather keep uh have a guy who’s more versatile to be that fifth dude and that’s Darnell Savage we’re in a pinch you can move him back and he could play in a split safety situation no problem some people are trying to figure out now where he’s going to play he’s going to line up in a slot but he has the ability to play back and play some split safety so I’m GNA go for there I disagree with Demetrius but like I said it’s it’s a very very minor minor disagreement last but not least those Corners we just talked about H how many do you keep how many you keep man he kept six this is where the versatility comes in handy this is where guys that can do more than one thing and play special teams will make a big difference but for this case let me tell you who he kept of course Tyson Campbell jaran Jones Ronald Derby we know that and Darnell Savage those are the top four he kept deontre Prince and monter Buster Brown they like muster Brown by the way they really they really really do like him a lot so I do understand that they’re going to keep both rookies according to Demetrius he says he believes it’s a lot while the team feels strongly about monter Buster Brown’s development they’re going to keep the Entre Prince and they’re going to keep jaran Jones if they do that and those guys play well this is where monter could be one of those dudes that’s a little bit of trade bait this is where you can get a good developmental player um for the Jaguars and maybe secure some sort of late round pick or a very rare player for player swap if the Jaguars find themselves thin at certain positions monter Brown will be a great additions to anybody’s Team all right so in the kicking game they kept three people on special teams Ross matisic is the Long Snapper you know the Long Snapper gets a bad rap man because I guarantee you any Long Snapper in the NFL you could probably see them at like your low local fast food place your local you can stop in trying to buy a scratch off or something and you won’t even know who he is that’s the thing about those long Snappers man they get to live and live their dream but live it in a little bit anonymity uh unlike other people Cam little the rookie is goingon to be the kicker according to Demetrius I wouldn’t mind that one bit and Logan cook of course big Logan we call him big Logan because Logan look like you play a little Edge rusher he’s gonna be the punter all right he’s going to be the punter a little bit of vulnerability we ain’t going to be Debbie ders here because it’s the weekend so we’re not going to talk about oh you better watch out for this no we’re just going to talk about a little bit of vulnerability if you keep too many young players at one position group then maybe you’re raising the expectation of those guys even if they um you have veterans in front of them defensive back I think they’re going to keep a lot of rookies and they have they’re going to have some unproven depth but you can’t hge your bets sometimes you can but sometimes you know the system the ecosystem just doesn’t allow you to do that and you have to be able to go with the guys and go with your gut and trust your evaluation of players and I think that a little bit of that is is is going to happen here with this team I I think they’re G to probably get away from that a little bit on the offensive line of course you know they’re going to keep uh the rookie out of Missouri Javon but I’m sitting here looking and thinking that this is where they have a problem with inserting Cooper hoders and then removing guys like Co vanl and then moving on past guys like Tyler Shatley so I think though young those young guys if they if they come in the camp and do the things that they’re supposed to do they’re going to absolutely make things Shake on that offensive line and to me that’s breath of fresh yeah you can’t have a dude that’s like your seventh eth offensive lineman every single year and you’re trying to improve that line no he needs to be going down to like nine or 10 and being on his way out of here that’s how you act get better at that position offensive line defensive back those are the areas the main areas where I say I don’t really know you know if if they have enough but then again I give a little bit of a mulligan because you can’t be a perfect team everywhere you just can’t do it I think the Jags are in pretty good shape going into the camp depends on how depending on how Camp goes how uh healthy they come out of Camp I think Demetrius did a pretty good job with it’s 53 I would only question Maybe five of those players so that means 48 guys we we we’re probably in a lock step with 48 guys and then I’ll leave the other five up to whatever happens in training camp that’s what’s gonna happen but I know y’all are gonna be watching it with me every
