NHL Trade Rumours – Habs Offer-Sheet Seth Jarvis? Leafs, Flames, Flyers, Blues + More Signings

we have a lot to cover in today’s video including the latest trade rumors around the NHL today we’re looking at the Toronto Maple Leafs the Montreal Canadians the Philadelphia Flyers and the Calgary Flames as well as the St Louis Blues we also have some updates on the New York Rangers and their contract situation they’re still trying to iron out with Ryan lingren as well as some others plus we have some other signings around the league as well a lot more coming up next so welcome back to another video here at Top Shelf hockey as mention we have lots to cover here today I just want a quick update as well I know I just got one of my new versions of my new Top Shop hockey t-shirts uh if you’re interested in supporting the channel and and purchasing a t-shirt I’ll put up a link in the pin comment down below with a 20% off code as well so certainly uh check that out if you haven’t had a time or opportunity to purchase any our merch before uh just wanted to do a quick summer special uh CU we have a random promotion uh for the shirts or hoodies anything in a while there will be some hoodies and hats and other top shelf hockey merch in the store as well and the code will apply to anything in the store so again anything you buy supports the channel your supports always greatly appreciate it um onto today’s news some signs to take a look at here we have the New York Rangers uh Sonny defenseman Chad rule of course he came over uh from Pittsburgh near the NHL trade deadline uh he does remain with the Rangers signs as a depth role one-year two-way contract uh it’s league minimum 775 at the NHL level but he does have a big guarantee amount of 400 50,000 so he’ll be paid a bigger salary uh when he does play in the American Hockey League and of course uh he’ll get at least some NHL games there as well a couple signings with the Boston Bruins the Bruins have signed Alec regula he gets a one-year two-way deal um league minimum at the NHL level about 215,000 guaranteed so again a bigger AHL contract they’ve also sign Michael Callahan also gets a one-year uh two-way deal as well and the Columbus Blue Jack it’s avoid arbitration and come to ter with the young gold hunter jet Greaves who had a really strong performance in the American Hockey League playoffs this year he gets a 2-year contract uh the interesting part is in year two it’s a one-way deal so the first year which is coming up uh will be a two a two-way contract uh he’ll have a salary of 800,000 uh in year two it’s a one-way contract and he’ll have a salary at the NHL level of 825 so obviously um you know he’s going to be expected to be on the Columbus roster fulltime um next season it’s not the coming one but the one after so you know we know that the you know the situation with the Columbus go tending is certainly likely going to change we know that goalie Elvis MC Kings want it to be moved uh domall come out and said you know he basically doesn’t think it’s possible right now that the way the last couple seasons have gone he doesn’t know that that contract is really tradable uh sounds to me like he’s hoping to improve the team uh help the goenda you know improve his value so to speak and maybe look to move him either later into the season or into next off season so I suspect Elvis will be with the jackets for at least all or part of the coming year um but the year after maybe we’ll see some guys like Greaves and uh their other young golden which teras off maybe have a chance to take over so we’ll see what the Blue Jackets do here but um looking good for Greaves to get into the NHL on a little bit more of a full-time basis and not too distant future a couple other signings as well involve prospects and young players leaving to go elsewhere um for the I think it’s the second or third time this off season a New York Islanders Prospect is leaving the sign overseas Oto Kula who is been with the Islanders for some time and their and their system has left to sign a two-year deal uh in the shl with the Vell Lakers um so again two-year deal so he’s not coming back anytime soon and the former flyer and Predator Wade Allison um he gets a one-year deal in the KHL so he’ll be playing in Russia next year uh I really thought Wade Allison would you know at this point be able to solidify himself as an NHL but based on how the last year or so has gone um that’s not the case there certainly we saw a ton of contracts get handed out early in free agency and we’re at a point now where there’s still some opportunities uh but we’re you know there’s not a ton out there and the players who are not signed are kind kind of scrambling so even for a guy like Allison who might be like a bubble player on a lot of teams if he’s got an opportunity to make better money in Russia where you know might be what he’s going to do so we’ll see um if he’ll make a return or whatnot at some point uh one other story was following as well as the New York Rangers we know that obviously the Rangers are a team that were looking to make some moves we all know the whole Jacob trouba story and how you know they wanted to move him and you know it just hasn’t worked out he had a no move clause and then it change to a a modified no trade July 1st and then of course with all the information that’s been out there through the media and NHL insiders I think trouba and his agent were well aware of the fact that the Rangers were trying to trade him um specifically to the Detroit Red Wings so I think the article in the New York Post which kind of tipped everybody off might might not helped keep them there I’m not really sure what else if they would have known otherwise I mean it’s quite possible you never know there’s lots of talk behind the scenes of course but um you know we know that trouba has made every attempt to block the traits and we’re not really going to talk much about trouba but that was a big move that they really wanted to make and to give them so much need cap flexibility so because of that they’re you know a little tighter than they probably wanted to be but another player that’s important to the team that needs to be signed is Ryan lingren uh there were some comments from Molly Walker from the New York Post as well on that situation is kind of saying how one of the things that they’re looking at there a couple of things really if you look at this whole lingren situation one it seems to be term is a sticking point um mainly because he plays such a warrior style of game he blocks a lot of shots uh you know he he may not have as long of a career as some guys just because the the way he plays takes such a beating on his body right so it’s it’s not an easy style to play I don’t know how many games I’ve watched in the course of even one season where he leaves you think he’s done he’s hurt he’s going to be out a while and then he’s back you know so like the guy does everything for the team Ultimate Team player in that sense um you know great uh defensive defenseman who you want out there in the dying minutes trying to protect a lead or something like that but you know he needs a new contract restricted free agent um obviously he’s an important part of the team but obviously term is a a real sticking point because of the style I think the Rangers are worried long term about his body breaking down and missing time because of injuries and whatnot so there’s there’s that um the other thing here as well is that they’ve got some big extensions that are going to be eligible can be do here shortly including eigor shurkin Alexi lafranier and kandre Miller they’re all going to be looking for term and more money as well so you know those extensions are all kind of looming here and uh you know Chris jury’s got to be careful with those dollars and then the other big thing is that they want to make sure they get this right because as much as they value lingren um you know there were some talk I seen some suggesting that he might be a trade piece this offseason but the same time you know he also is the D pair for Adam Fox Adam Fox is your highest paid defenseman arguably your most important defenseman uh he’s also Adam Fox’s best buddy uh you know was in Fox’s wedding here com just recently like so again like they wanted to make sure that there was one of the points in the article or or the comments I mean was T On’s you know it’s it’s kind of about keeping some of the top players on the team like happy as well um but all that I said all aside like term will be the big factor so I’m not sure how quickly or how long drawn out this is going to get uh we’ll see uh obviously arbitration can be a factor here too so um with the r linoln contract term definitely a sticking point theyve got lots of big raises coming up for some of these guys they haven’t been able to shake up the team the way they were hoping largely because of the trouba situation so it’s kind of limiting what they’re able to do and curious to see how this contract situation plays out now another scenario to watch as as well as the offseason continues to unfold here uh St Lewis uh we saw them sign Ryan suder uh the other day uh 39 years old gets a one-year deal full of bonuses has been bought out multiple times you know this is going to be the third team in the Central Division that he’ll be collecting a paycheck from this year alone of course including Minnesota and Dallas who have both bought him out now and you know the thing with with Rutherford’s comments was he was on a podcast called the opening drive podcast talking about how there’s now a log Jam on the left side of the Blue Line you know they resigned Scott perunovich uh you know panovich is there you’ve got obviously Nick Ley you’ve got Tory Krug you bring in suder uh you know you’ve got on the other side you’ve got Paro you’ve got Fulk uh you know Tucker in the in the mix there like there is a log Jam on the blue line and all signs kind of point to the fact that they still very much want to move to Krug Doug Armstrong has been wanting to move Krug for an extended time we all heard the rumors last offseason about KRW blocking a trade to the Philadelphia Flyers um and here we are again now again like I’ve said this numerous times but like the blues are a prime example of why I don’t understand in the NHL they hand out no trade Clauses like Halloween candy to kids uh on Halloween night it’s ridiculous if you look at some of the other sports there’s not a lot of players that have that kind of protection in their contract um you know and obviously I think it should be reserved for more of the top top players and in the case of St Louis they’ve got like almost their entire blue line with no trade claws of some kind which is crazy like you’ve painted yourself into that corner you’re the one that signed those deals you gave all these guys no trades uh you played hard ball with your former Captain Alex petrangelo reportedly over a no trade that you caused your captain to go to Vegas and you lost them and then of course it sound like they had to regrets after but yet they gave no trades to all these other guys like it’s just it’s mindboggling how they’ve done their business there um you know and overall Doug Armstrong has done a lot of good for the organization but that’s one thing that I don’t get um but of course the intention of what Rutherford was saying was there was belief earlier in the offseason that Tory Krug would wave I mean at some point you have to think that I don’t care who you are you have a no move or no trade in your contract and you can block things from happening from getting moved out of the team but eventually if you if it happens like over and over and over at some point are you going to be like okay it’s pretty clear they don’t want me here I I need to go this is just too hard to deal with um and there was some belief that earlier in the offseason that he would wave which is I think why they kind of did their signings the way they were but now Rutherford’s saying that the belief is that’s not really the case or at least the information that he was led to believe was the case may not necessarily be true or at least not to the extent that they thought so at this point again the blues are trying to move him he’s not cooperating uh which is entirely his right uh they they’ve given him this ability they’ve painted themselves into this corner so I don’t know if St Louis is going to be able to shake up that blue line and move out a player like Krug but it didn’t really make sense in my opinion to bring in the guys they did and you know with without moving somebody it just doesn’t make sense um like I know that’s what I said when the suor signing was announced like well I’m sure he didn’t sign to just play like a 78 defenseman or like a guy who’s not going to be in the lineup every day he still thinks he can play and and play like be an everyday contributor so I don’t know we’ll see but the blues are going to continue to work at that but right now it certainly seems unclear and more likely than not that the defenseman that they want to move is not going to cooperate and they’re either going to be forced to make a different move that they maybe don’t want to make or they’re not going to make any move and have a kind of a glut of Defense there in the back end so we we’ll see what happens but uh guess the main point of this is that they are trying to move Tory KRW it’s just almost impossible another team when it comes to uh defenseman that there’s no I haven’t seen rumors suggesting that they’re looking to trade them but they’re getting lots of inquiries which is not surprising at all is the Calgary Flames when it comes to Mackenzie weager and rosmus Anderson now everybody knows the way they’ve structured their team it’s very clear their rebuilding so you know yes you have to keep some veterans around but you know if you can get a really good haul for a veteran player like that you have to consider it and Conroy’s done that so at the end of the day you know uh they’re both really good defenseman they’re both right shot which is tough to find they both have good contracts so you know it’s not surprising that there’s a lot of interest you look around the the around the NHL there’s lots of teams between fre agency or that were trying to make trades that wanted to make some changes to their blue line and maybe didn’t get their business done they weren’t able to get the guys they wanted so you know that now they’re playing the trade market and trying to call around and be like okay well who could we get you know that would make sense and they’re looking at the flames and they’re like well these guys are really good let’s see if Craig conr will make a deal and so far the Flames have resisted and I don’t know if it’s really a case that they just don’t want to or just more of a case that they just haven’t had the right offer so at the end of the day we’ll see I’m not sure that either of these guys will get moved but it sounds like they’re getting lots of Interest so that’s not surprising and we’ll see if anything leads to anything there I know there was an article on Sports not talking about um some rfas and some potential offer sheets and I’ve seen a lot a lot of fans is talking online as well about Oilers defenseman Philip Brer cuz the Oilers have kind of capped themselves right out here with all the other signings and business they’ve done but they left themselves two rfas with broberg and Holloway and really no space so you know would the Flames want to attack their provincial rival here and offer sheet broberg I mean you know I think there might be some argument to say that maybe his relationship with the team I don’t know where things stand I mean I know he got an opportunity in the playoffs and he he made the most of it but you know in the last year year or two he’s probably wanted more opportunity and if another team regardless of who the air is willing to come along and pay him handsomely I think he’d the least considerate you would think right I don’t know but there are some some wondering about that being a possibility because the Flames are certainly a team that have more cap flexibility than a lot of teams there’s also some talk about Calgary maybe being a team that other teams would that will be calling to take on maybe an unfavorable contract with sweeteners of course as the Flames look to rebuild and add more assets uh you know Conroy will will you know sounds like he’s willing to take something on if it’s worth it for them so again don’t be shocked if you see the Flames maybe make a trade or they pick up a bad contract if the right incentive is included so we’ll see on that front um Montreal we know is still looking to ad of scoring Winger that same sportsite article I was referencing about rfas and offer sheets there was some talk about you know with the Montreal Carolina back and forth uh Revenge tactics continue I know that the the managers involved are both moved on now and you get different leadership groups on both teams but you would Montreal consider targeting Seth Jarvis uh as an offer sheet Target um that would be interesting to say the least for one I I don’t think we have any reason to think that Seth Jarvis would be interested in leaving Carolina I think it’s fair to say he loves it there I think he loves playing for Rod brind more I think he loves playing with his teammates like he’s a well-like guy he’s funny he’s you know what great great teammate they love him there uh fan favorite uh but like again I’ve said this before and I stand by this ownership there Tom dunan might be a good stable owner brought a lot of things to that franchise that was greatly needed to stabilize things but he is a bit on the Frugal side we’ve seen guys leave over money because they will not pay um so again um you know Jaris might be one of those guys they Pony up for but are they is he going to get you know over $8 million probably not you know like it’s going to have to be you know less than some of the top contracts on the team right so again you just have to think you know would would a team want to kind of attack Carolina here not to say that they don’t have the room and ability to match but like the AO situation you know do they want to pay a lot of signing bonus money and do they want to pay a bigger aav would it get South Jarvis thinking if some team come along and offered them a ridiculous amount right it might not be an 8year deal maybe a it’s uh maybe it’s a 2-year deal maybe it’s I don’t know $10 million or $9 million or something crazy like it wouldn’t be shocking and look at what they did with COA neemi I mean that was a gross overpayment just to get them in your organization and then you extend them for Less hasn’t worked out right so that’s a prime example of you know backfiring on you but you know at the end of the day you know Montreal’s attempt to get AO did not work um it’s like I said it’s a whole new regime on both sides the I said the sports article did kind of speculated Jarvis as maybe being a potential Target and just kind of wandered about Montreal because of the history I don’t see it happening because that history I think doesn’t really seem to be relevant anymore now that b and wal and all those guys are not in the picture but uh I wouldn’t be completely shocked if some team had the uh you know the goads here to attack Carolina with an offer sheet so we’ll see we’ll see I don’t I mean it’s rare it probably won’t happen but it would be interesting nonetheless um Toronto Mitch mner we don’t really have any updates on our trade but we do know that there’s still a lot of conflicted media members out there who think he should be moved but one interesting tidbit of course Marner uh recently had his big event that he has every summer it’s a six annual uh Marner Allstar Invitational which is part of the Mitch marner’s uh uh Marner assist Foundation charity group that he that he created for the first time in its history of this event uh they were there was no media allowed to attend it was media free so essentially making it that he did not want to deal with media does not want to talk to anybody on the record um probably tired of hearing all the fuss and everything about his uh you know his future in Toronto whether or not it’s in Toronto or not um it just leads it led to a lot of people to think that you know maybe he thinks and understands that this is maybe the end of his time in ton Toronto and just doesn’t want to you know really get into the speculation and what not really what’s he going to say at the end of the day if the if the Leafs want to trade him and the belief is that they’ve had some conversations and they’ve just never really gotten to a point where they were serious enough about it that’s not really entirely up to him and if and if they also don’t want to offer him an extension if they want to change up the team again that’s not entirely up to him so as much as you know this is a getting a little bit of attention negatively uh for not talking to the media like I don’t know I mean I to me I think it’s CU he didn’t he wants to not deal with any of the rumors he doesn’t want to deal with any of the speculation I get that sometimes you’re better off to deal with it or you make it worse and you just create more talk around it more talking points which I think might be what’s happened here um you know like Zack heyman’s got a big event coming up Leon dry cdle going into last year of his deal he’s got lots of speculation around him right now and I know it’s different uh but again he’s going to the event they’re talking to the media uh just being handled completely differently so I I don’t know if it really tells us anything about marner’s future um I just kind of wonder myself the first thing that came to my mind is you know maybe he’s just tired of dealing with the circus of the media in Toronto maybe he is ready for a move and maybe at some point whether it be this summer or into next next year that he just says you know what if you want to move me just move me um you know I’m ready for a quieter place to play so to speak just kind of makes you wonder with how that’s been handled so we’ll see on that front if it means anything or not the last piece of business I want to talk about as well involves the Winnipeg Jets and the Philadelphia Flyers trade proposal comes from a Philly based website uh that covers the Flyers called brotherly Puck um talking about the how the Flyers should be in the mix to trade for disgruntled former first round pick Win Pick Jets ruer mordi and suggest the Flyers offer up Travis kkny with 50% retained and Scott lton I think there was a draft pick in there too if I’m not mistaken I was completely blown away by the trade proposal I know I’ve seen a good mix of opinions in the Philly market for whether or not the Flyers should extend Travis concy or should they move him um a lot of people would argue the fact that he’s been a real good player for them works really hard sets a good example can definitely be the kind of player that can work good for torella um you know he’s he’s been everything he needed to be for the Philadelphia Flyers like he’s met all the expectations but rumor is he’s looking for a long-term contract in that $9 to10 million range and the question is for a team that’s rebuilding and with where he is at with his career and his age does that make sense for them so as much as you like the player does that make sense for the team to do and a lot of people argue that it doesn’t so you know maybe the flyer should really consider moving connecting and that’s a whole other argument onto itself but to go to Winnipeg for rer mordi honestly I think the Jets would love to have kkny I have no idea if he’d consider signing an extension there or not um you know obviously lotton again could improve their Center depth or or Wing depth depending on where you put them um but he could be a good middle six guy connecting could be a good top six guy I have no doubt Winnipeg would probably highly consider that kind of deal as long as they knew kkny would day and resign I don’t know that they’d want to pay him the kind of money he’s looking for but the other big factor here that I think absolutely stands this deal no chance to happen is there’s no way Rucker mcord is going to Philadelphia so for Flyers fans if you like this player and I understand why it would um his best buddy cutter goce was a flyer I’m sure I don’t need to remind you of that story and after that soured I can pretty much guarantee mordi would probably refuse to the sign with to Flyers and go to the organization his best friend just got moved out of uh not long ago and really had a lot of you know interesting things to say and and how this all went down the same way this is going down on Winnipeg so Flyers fans if you if you want mity it I don’t see it happening uh just for those reasons alone U but again the whole other debate main reason I wanted to touch on it was it seems to be a a good mix of opinions out there on what to do with Conny do you extend him big money big term or do you move on you know do you try to bring in another top young player like this type of of deal uh does that make sense for Philadelphia more than signing him I’ve seen all the arguments for and against i’ love to know what everybody thinks in the comments so let me know your thoughts on that and everything else discussed here today in the comments and we’ll discuss further if you’re new to the channel make sure you 1. Great report Mike!
Re: Habs/Canes: that history is water under the bridge now. Waddell & Bergevin are both gone. Gorton & Hughes could care less about what happened in the past. Both are probably thankful that the Canes "stole" KK exposing him as a total bust.
I doubt G & H would ho down the offer sheet path for Jarvis.
    1. Yes….he's a good young player.
    2. There's no way they'll pay him more than Suzy…..ain't gonna happen.
    3. Canes have just over $11 million in cap space so if Habs did offer sheet Jarvis (at about $8 million/season max)….Canes would be forced to pay up that approx $8 million of their $11 million for that one player. It'd sure be interesting to see if they'd go that route!!!!!

  2. Super respect for Cheveldaoff he is amazing dealer. I believe Hughes and Gorton just need to up the ante.
Ist round unprotected, a 2nd 25' or 26' and Barron who will be great
