a friend thank you very much it’s Friday night you all know what that means thank you for joining me shout out to you Kyle you already know the craft ice is here my friends and tonight is a special night and you ask why is it a special night I will tell you why my friends we are debuting the first ever in history the first Running With The Devils New Jersey Devils themed craft cocktail and it is a doozy it is a doozy is it a personal favorite of mine a beautiful summer refreshment and we’re going to kick it off with a little casamigos this tonight’s video sponsored by casamigos ano only the finest and um if you’re wondering what this cocktail is tonight we are debuting the peshy pooma my friends and these are these are the ingredients for human beings you see two ounces of tequila or more if you’re daring I’m certainly daring so I’m going to kick it up a little Notch uh W with that ingredient there but two ounces of grapefruit juice I got the good stuff the ruby red I tried to find like some organic fresh squeezed but the grocery store did not have that and so we are here with the ruby red a little ruby red action couple ounces of that couple ounces of Seltzer club soda a necessary ingredient and of course we top it off with a little lime juice Little Couple squirts in there and um I will go with the I’m I am going with the fruit the fruit in the in the right in the just throw it in the pool there in the drink at restaurants I will tell you restaurants bars I am strictly no fruit I read an article that scarred my life years ago about how disgusting fruit in restaurants are but um this was from my own personal Running With The Devil’s Kitchen it was cleaned thoroughly it was under controlled parameters and so I will squeeze I’m just squeezing juice everywhere I will squeeze some of the juice in there and then just plunge it in and then just plunge it right into the drink but there it is my friends the first ever running with the devil’s signature cocktail the peshy Paloma and um cheers cheers to all of you in here the peshy Paloma the first of many Devil’s signature beverages to come and it’s quite tasty quite tasty we are off to the races me just clear out some of my power felia here so we are through the busy time of the summer the draft has come and gone free agency has come and gone little Maneuvers and roster tinkerings are seemingly done for the moment and the New Jersey Devils have what appears to be their final roster heading into the 2425 NHL season as I’ve shared with you all before I am super stoked for the season I do believe we made some very good improvements uh the bottom six is a lot tougher our goal tending in defense has finally been addressed and I expect a massive season from our New Jersey Devils and uh it’s goingon to be a good one I I did a video earlier today I released about Matt Ry training with George Lorac check that out if you haven’t seen it Ry really trying to work on his uh you know his on Ice fighting skills in the offseason he took a lot of punishment last year and uh he’s not looking to take that punishment again this year so check out that video on the channel I’ll also take to take care of some housekeeping up front here if you are interested in our summer book club get a copy of broer beyond the crease this is Marty’s autobiography released about 16 years ago or so 18 years ago maybe I’ll be starting that off up very soon I’m going to do probably a couple chapters at a time and I’ll kind of do a deep dive and expand on things that he talks about um in the book really cool book a lot of behind the-scenes stuff insights and stories and things that a lot of people don’t know and so if you are interested pick up a copy of the book I’ll probably start that in shows but the ice truck killer in Dexter is probably one of the greatest villains in in cable TV shows to be honest yes and no oh man Propet did you watch the actual games or like the heaven the special about it 1995 Stanley Cup finals great series the New Jersey Devils a massive Underdog to the heavily favored Detroit Red Wings and the boys got it done in a Four game beautiful sweep capturing the franchise’s first Stanley Cup Championship on our home ICE June 24th 1995 a little more than 29 years ago absolutely beautiful stuff beautiful stuff sipp and deay on the rocks and pop two gummies oh boy Pete oh boy Pete you’re gonna be in for a ride here tonight two of the Predators Chris Hansen busted one had a screen named ice truck killer and the another one by Mike Thriller oh boy oh boy see what happened to Frank your favorite Devil’s moment is the aine well the aine is you know the greatest line in New Jersey Devil’s history what an absolute treat it was to watch those boys go to work Jason arot Patrick alos Peter sakur man man I’m just going to start reminiscing about the old times again the A-line was just Blockbuster must see domination I was hoping that they would stay intact for much longer than they did but it was an absolutely phenomenal Run for the aine and they were obviously instrumental in capturing the 2000 Stanley Cup Championship for the devils and you could see the arnau goal right behind me there one of the greatest moments and definitely the greatest goal in Devils history to bring us our second cup and what what an amazing night in Dallas that was amazing night in Dallas yeah the 95 cup hat is sweet probably my favorite of the three I like all of them but anytime you get a uh anytime you can get a Stanley Cup champions hat you know especially a devil’s one there’s not going to be too many designs that I don’t like any of you guys also drinking tonight by any chance there’s am I the only alcoholic here I don’t know I don’t don’t anticipate a Joe appearance but my phone could possibly start buzzing at any moment and it could be on so I will find out uh there was no plan of Joe stalgia making an appearance but there’s always the chance that he’s lurking in the shadows looking to come on and probably you know be angry about something the 03 R is nice it feels a bit weird with what happened to Paul Korea he doesn’t remember like it like days after the game I mean unfortunately listen that’s part of the game um you know big heavy hits part of the game and Korea just kind of got caught slipping there and number four Scott Stevens was happy to was happy to to give him a little crunchy crunch what a hit by Scotty though one of many many many dangerous just bone jarring hits from Scott Stevens throughout the oh Frank is back let’s see let’s see Frank hey can you hear me oh we got audio he everybody welcome my man Frank to the program and let me just do a little a little setting the scene here Frank is the very talented gentleman behind behind hands down the most beautiful New Jersey Devils warm-up jersey in the history of the Devils or warm-up jerseys that very special Fan Appreciation Night on the last home game of the season in the 2223 season the Luke Hughes NHL debut game which is actually the birth of this very Channel check out that video on the channel if you haven’t seen it look up Luke Hughes you’ll see a little behind the scen stuff before Luke hit the ice for the first time did his rookie lap in Frank absolutely stunning fan appreciation Jersey and so I I have a bunch of questions for you Frank but I guess first start off tell me when did you become a devil’s fan and how well I you know as you can tell about my hat uh I’ve been around a while I I was 11 years old when uh when they they came to Jersey I I remember the I remember the contest that they were having with that you know name the team and there man there’s some if you ever look into the history of that there’s some names in there that are I think metall Landers was one of them uh I think Americans was in there and so I remember the contest so they they’ve always been around but I really wasn’t into hockey until it’s really weird until NHL 94 came about okay classic game oh yeah and I I was in the Navy at the time and me and my buddies would be playing and that you know just killing time with that and really got into it and then that was uh you know so that’s like 93 994 and then I I remember I remember seeing martan brador’s first couple starts going holy cow this kid might actually be something you know it’s just like you never know you know you have those hot starts and uh you know I kind of fell in love with with the team you know hardcore kind of since then so you know it was tough in that 94 season and the you know seeing the Rangers go on but you know that started the Dynasty and it started my love you know for this team and it’s kind of been going on since then it’s funny that’s actually when I became a fan as well you’re a little bit older than me but I was about eight or nine that 9394 season you know was a very big into basketball at the time NBA was huge with the Knicks being super relevant in the area and obviously the Jordan Dynasty Bulls you know the NBA was kind of the hot thing at the time and not a ton of people or kids in my school were into hockey there was very few and even few were devils fans there’s probably 10 total hockey fans and eight of them were Ranger fans and me and one or two other kids like the Devils but that’s when kind of when I fell in love with the team as well and it’s just crazy what we’ve been able to witness from that time kind of till now yes and it’s been a treat I mean obviously a lot a lot of younger people in here a lot of younger people watch the show and they only know kind of pain in misery and and my heart goes out to them I mean listen a lot of them you know the the 2223 season was kind of like the Pinnacle of their careers and I kind of get on my Soap Box often and rant about how you know there’s so much more Beyond just making the playoffs and you know going through these deep runs and making it to the finals and winning Stanley Cups and hopefully you know we’re back there sooner than later because it has been a quite a dry spell for this New Jersey Devil’s franchise oh absolutely I mean we had that little taste of you know 2012 uh that you know rekindled a lot of a lot of spirits and it was just what a run that was in 2012 and then the wheels came off the bus so you know if if you’ve picked up the Devils you know since the post 2012 and you’ve stuck around man you’re the real MVP because you know that’s that’s the way to go man because it it makes winning that much sweeter I mean when You’ suffered this you know this kind of long and and and drawn out I mean there’s some dark times you know in this franchise from the early 80s up into the you know early 90s and then what we’ve been going through is kind of rivaled that I mean that’s it’s just been it’s been bad so it’s it’s honestly been you know super painful since that 2012 cup run that you mentioned you know the Devils have won and in the subsequent 12 Seasons they’ve won one whopping playoff series and six total playoff games in the post martan broer era brutal yeah absolutely brutal yeah I mean we had those you know you had that kind of flash of like 2017 18 with Taylor Hall and uh you know there were just so many things that kind of didn’t go right and this wasn’t set up and you know Lou larell you know love that man you know he’s you know Devils would be nothing Devils probably wouldn’t even be in New Jersey without him so you know but you know he he had a Never Say Die attitude and he was never going to commit to a rebuild and that kind of that kind of hurt since 2012 and uh you know it’s just been you it’s been painful but the pieces were there it’s just not at the same time you know no I totally agree so now we’re going to fast forward to that 22 23 season tell me exactly that we talked about this you know offline here but tell tell the fans how exactly that beautiful Jersey how did that whole thing come about and tell us about the process and all that kind of you know fun details that went behind that beautiful work of art that you did oh thanks man yeah it was really interesting that you know they had the call to you know call of local artists to do you know the warm-up Jersey and the ingame branding and you know that kind of stuff for the specialty nights and um I I submitted you know it it was kind of funny because you know it was like gender equality and pride night and you know uh the Lunar New Year and and uh so it was just like you know me being the middle-aged white guy I was just like I really don’t fall into any of these categories specifically but you know why not why not you know just throw my throw my hat in the ring and so I did gender equality you know leaning on I have a couple of you know beautiful daughters and my beautiful wife and you know they’ve gotten into hockey so much and you know it’s so I went with that route so I just submitted a design in my previous work and during the offseason I got a phone call from the marketing department you know I see this call from you know new Yark New Jersey and I I’m like oh okay and uh I I see what this is and they’re like you know thanks for submitting your thing we’re not selecting you for the gender equality night in my head I’m thinking oh I mean that’s that sucks but I appreciate the phone call and uh he’s like but we were wondering if you were interested in designing the fan appreciation Jersey and I just picked myself up off the floor and I was just like are you freaking kidding me yes yes yes and then went through some details and then hung up and that’s when I you know pretty much you know [ __ ] myself because I was just like oh my Lord the the other nights have a theme you know what I mean right you know you have you know gender equality or Pride night or you know black history you know you had a theme you had something you can go off of when you think of of fan appreci it was just wild card wild card I know and it was insane so my first thought was a Jersey diner and I just you know always love that I mean who hasn’t love you know going to a diner you know whether it be after you know after a night of drinking or whether I remember in high school you know was the only place you could go and hang out you know that was you know you can you know without getting kicked out and so you know diners mean a lot to so much so a lot of Jersey people and I did like this neon New Jersey with the and we went through this whole thing and it was looking pretty cool and it was it was really neat and uh they so they have a you the the one thing I didn’t realize when you were designing a jersey is that you were just using the base model practice jersey so there’s no no striping no you know no couldn’t bring back the wayist stripe things like that it was basically logos logos that can be put on or you know so you have white red and black and so I’m like I want to do a black one you know and I had this design I got to put it together one day maybe you know kind of unveil it the kind of previous designs that we went through yeah yeah and I had it kind of like with this this uh this kind of glowing effect you know it made it really look like neon and I was going to have the names on the back of the jersey and neon and the numbers and the neon look to it and it was looking really cool and then about like a month or two before my my deadline they go Frank he’s like we love the design but we don’t have any more black jerseys I’m like what so like typical Devils typical Devils so the other warm-ups the other uh designs that came out because fan appreciation is obviously the last home game of the season so you know it was the last one so the other designs had priority and took up the stock in it and so I was like ah so I tried designing it on red and tried designing it on white and it just looks blurry it doesn’t look like neon like it did on black so I was like oh crap so so I mean you know love the marketing team for the Devils the you know they worked with me you know we you know conference call and trying to figure out what are we going to do and you know just starting firing ideas around and you know we talked about how there’s never been like the state of New Jersey on you know the Devils have never used that you know in any kind of official capacity and so we did that and we started throwing around things like you know like uh parking lot parade and you know just things like that so you know to kind of rewind one of the things they said when they first told me about the the Jersey is that you can’t tell anybody so I was like I’m wanting to shout on top of the world you know that I’m doing this I was like oh okay but the only thing I did do is on Twitter I posted a thing I said if somebody you know when I say I’m a New Jersey Devils fan what does that mean to you and I got so much cool stuff like like if I asked you that what would you say like what is something that you you apply to being a devil’s fan like what what do you think of it probably would have encompassed you know a lot of the things that were kind of me referenced on the crest but you know I would have said right away like C uh the the crazy catwalk the tailgating the parking lot parades and you know and so it is CRA when I first saw it and then like saw the real details of all the slogans and things that were on it I was like you know the state of New Jersey alone was just was killer in and of itself with the color combo but then when you break it down and look at all the little phrases that you encompassed into the design I was like this was just phenomenal you know and a lot of probably don’t know a lot of them I actually wrote a I think on my website a while ago and put links to a lot of it kind of deciphering it because if you’re a younger fan you you you you would miss most of them and so I kind of wanted people to understand like how really impactful and you know well you know all-encompassing all of your things were because it stretches you know the the entire franchise history and I thought it was really well done and it was completely awesome when I saw it with all the like I said when I could read all the texts I was like this is killer that’s I appreciate appreciate it man yeah and it was you know there was stuff on there you know I didn’t know if it would fly uh there’s so many you know so many things you gota there are so many hoops and and and red tape that you kind of have to go through at these designs to make sure things are original and not copyright so there were things on there I didn’t know I I did not think have another donut was gonna make it and either are you sure that they know what that was because when I saw that the first thing I thought of was how did that one get through I didn’t think there was any chance yeah because we I threw a bunch in there and like pretty much all of them made it and that there was a lot of tough choices too like you know I wanted to put henrique over but then it’s just like he wasn’t on the team anymore but he was still active and then that opens up the whole thing of so you know I went with Mr devil and St Patrick and uh Marty’s better and the other difficult omissions of things that you really wanted to put but in the end it just didn’t make the cut the one I really wanted and it was a default of nobody was uh dancing Earl I wanted dancing Earl on there and they wanted to make sure that was cool with his family which I totally get and I think that’s awesome to do that you know and we just weren’t able to make that happen before the design was finalized but so that’s the one I really wished was was kind of on there because you know tell them tell the people who might not know exactly what the the the The Legend of dancing Earl because a lot of people might not even know what that is or yeah so dancing Earl he he was in Usher at the uh at the Rock and uh you know just bursting of personality and he just one of those guys like you come across and you’re like I want to go out with a have a beer with this guy you know he was just and he would start doing this dancing and then the cameras picked up on it and then he became a staple of of the of the scoreboard was dancing Earl you know and they you know pretty much cut to him every game and you know the guy was just full of life and everything so that was one thing I really wish made it on there but you know it didn’t happen but uh overall it I you know one of the things so one of my favorite parts of the design is on the the shoulder I have The Rock and the Continental Airlines Arena Brendan burn isod uh profiles on there and my original design had the three cups behind the Continental Airlines Arena and that got shot down because um they’re an NHL te but they’re not allowed to use Stanley Cup without it being the this whole other drawn out process so even a good example of that is when they had the in that same season they had the 20th anniversary of the 2003 team it was called like Championship you know 20 years since the champ there was never in in the official uh Graphics or anything there was no silhouette of the Stanley Cup or anything like that because it’s just a whole other Avenue of copyrights and things like that so it’s just the the handcuffs that you have you know on doing a design like that could be it’s really it was really kind of uh enlightening I was like holy cow you know terrible so yeah it’s just really it it’s just funny you know how these things work out but you know it it the design came together I think it came out better you know for it you know I look back at the original neon designs with New Jersey I still think they would have been cool but you know not as cool as I think what the final product was and you know it and everything just worked out with it you know Luke Hughes was playing in Michigan and you know he was going to the to the you know Frozen four and I was like oh man that would be wild if you know he winds up with his first game and Michigan got eliminated early so he was coming and I think it was they were were up in Boston the game before and I was like ah they’re going to play him in Boston but they didn’t so I was like holy crap this might actually work out and it and it did to be luke Hugh’s first game was in that Jersey so completely abolutely love completely completely wild stuff the way that that all kind of worked out yeah um and I was there I was there at that game I actually met you for the first time outside the arena after the game you were the only person obviously on the premises wearing the jersey and I was like you must be backhanded devil no one else in here has has the jersey and I saw you wearing it after the game and and then I got to see it up even closer with you having it on and then I was like this is you know easily the greatest Devil’s warmup I don’t think there’s one even remotely close I actually put a link for you guys in the chat if you haven’t seen the Jersey you could click that was the uh Twitter announcement from the team and you could see the up close patches that Frank referred to with the two Arenas and the crest that had all of the different um you know slogans or kind of historic events or people right has history really cool and I’ll drop the link to where I I took the uh the video of um you know Luke Hughes moments before he hit the ice for the first time for his rookie lap in Frank’s beautiful work of art and then lastly Frank Before I Let You Go I appreciate your time what do you think about the boys now the revamped the heavier edgier more violent New Jersey Devils heading into the 2425 season what are your thoughts on that I mean first of all how Austin is more violent I just I I thought that just oh I love that that that he said that when I heard it and I I’m excited because it’s like you look at pieces they add like n and and you’re like all right that’s cool that’s what the the bottom six needed they needed some toughness they I love bringing Tatar back I love you know and and then I’m like then you look at the changes on the defense you know a lot of people are up in arms when you know let Holtz and Schmidt go but I knew I wasn’t up in arms that we traded him at the time and I’ve since cool and I tell people a lot of people attack me because you know a lot of times I’ll make a video like seconds after something happens right and a lot of times you know I’m a hot blooded fan like a lot of other people and I overreact I I didn’t necessarily care that we traded them I just thought in the moment that the return and I just and I and I like Cotter and what he brings I just thought that we overpaid at the time but then after I cooled off you know I’m still not thrilled with it but I’m not nearly as upset about it as I was the day it got announced but everyone thought you know Holtz could be this legit top six guy and and Schmid won that Playoff round against the Rangers he showed flashes and a lot of people thought including myself that maybe you know Amit um you know among that other group of young goalies with Daws and polter and you know Brennan Malik that he could have been one of the guys to emerge as the next guy and so when it kind of comes out of nowhere that we traded a potential top six and a potential starting goalie for a bottom six guy it was kind of a gut punch and you know I I overreacted I’ll admit in the moment um I hated did the trade you know as it stands today I still think we may have overpaid a little bit but I always liked Cotter and so I’m I’ve cooled off a bit since it was announced but I I I like Cotter but I I overreacted I will say I mean I mean you just think about those pieces and you’re like oh man all right and then you get you get to the D and then you know peshi and and Dylan and you’re like holy crap I mean the the top six I mean those three pairs of D for the Devils have the potential of ranking up there in the league and you’re like holy crap that’s the D and then you just totally forgot you’ve also signed marcher and you’re like holy crap it just like all the major holes that you know I was I’ll admit I was sweating I was sweating the way Fitz handled last season I mean it was it seemed like has he lost the script you know you know what’s going on you know he let you know sometimes I think he’s too nice you know and let and let Lindy kind of keep keep the reins a little too long and then couldn’t make the trade to get a goalie in and I was just I was starting to worry and I was just like ah but man he has he has shown what his plan is now and you know it’s I I am so psyched for this upcoming season I think it’s going to be oh h the defense and goal tending was obviously a staple of the dynasty years and again not to you we we’ll never see let’s be honest right between the defense and goal tending I tell people you know we’ll never see that again I mean that’s the reality Marty Nether and Stevens are literally all alltime greats at their position they’re all on the NHL 100 list as one of the 100 greatest players in NHL history and so to see a their Prime for the most of their careers uh simultaneously that can never happen again but as a a very poor man’s version I do get excited at with the potential of yes marstrom is old but we only have him for a couple years can marstrom with Dylan and peshi now kind of be a poor man’s ver a very poor man’s version but you know of those Dynasty teams that were constructed behind a obviously magnificent goenda solid defense are we reverting back to more of oldtime Devil’s hockey and I think it’s a very interesting kind of thing yeah and and I think it showed and I think the playoffs showed like the playoffs do every year but this one you know really showed that if the Devils had somehow scraped their way into the playoffs they would have just gotten smoked for sure you know because you because you just saw how every team you know you know playing the Devils hit them hard hit them often and they fold you know they just had no answer for that they and then you got to the goalie and they let up you know let up a quick goal and it always seemed to be two or three and it just fell apart mentally and so I really think that Fitz addressed all of these question marks that you know we’ve had so I think he’s done his job oh we haven’t even named Sheldon Keith so it’s just like every time you think you’re just like holy cow we got something else I keep forgetting about that we skip right to the players it’s I’ll that as well yeah and and I’m really excited to see how he utilizes this lineup you know so like I’m excited as you can tell what what do you think about because they are the minority but there are a group of people you know on this channel the internet abroad that were like toughness wasn’t an issue I mean I what what do you think about people that say stuff like that because I get it quite often and I’m like I don’t know what game you were watching or how many games you did watch but I mean I think it seems like you’re on the same page with most people that have been watching for a long time and it’s like you know what did you miss here I mean it like you said hit him hard hit him often and that would seemed to be the go-to kind of playbook for teams that wanted to beat us and it and it worked very well in my opinion it did it did yeah and I think you know I I could see where especially if you haven’t if you didn’t grow up watching 80s 90s early 2000s hockey where it was heavy-handed and um you know big bodies and the speed and skill of today’s game if if you kind of have grown up you know just seeing that aspect of the NHL you know I could see where in theory in your head you can be like you should be able to win with offensive alone you don’t need toughness you don’t need slow you know slow fisted people and but you know I think like anybody who watches the playoffs and saw all of the all of the deficiencies that the devil’s had that you know toughness is you know MC der’s a good example he he’s not a skilled player he’s not out there to score goals but the team triple Deeks from him right you’re not going to see you’re not GNA see you know 21 minutes of ice time from you know kerit of mcdermit so he but when he was out there in the short time the short window that he had with the Devils the team played tougher the team started sticking up for each other the team there it was kind of like a eye opening for them like oh okay all right and I you know that that this where I think people have to realize it’s that when you say toughness it’s not just not not the [ __ ] rimpy you know you you know that that guy’s a bygone era that you know so he’s not gonna last he’ll be in the ECHL with I don’t know man I think he I think if he kind of if he could work on some things and stop taking the boneheaded penalties I think he could be kind of the throwback guy that could stick around I’m curious I mean I’m rooting for him just because I think it makes the Rivalry more interesting and I think it opens more doors it opens more doors for guys like him and with that being said you know our boy mcdermit just got a one point it was like 1.3 million yeah would he have gotten that money without Matt ry’s existence I might say no and a lot of people kill the deal for that reason but uh growing up at the time I we both both did watching the era of hockey we did I I do like to see it kind of make a little bit of a comeback and I think maybe mcdermid should send him a gift basket or something because he got about four schilly to uh help eradicate the problem so yeah and I found it amazing that they they signed that contract be I think that was even before they hired the new coach so it just like it was a really interesting that Fitz made that move you know um yeah and and I think you may be right so I think it’s a really interesting mix right now of of seeing that old school mentality and the newer um you know say it be the the CTE crowd you know back in the day you know when we were watching it when Scott Stevens was russan skulls people there was no such thing as concussions right you got you got your bell rung you know you got Bambi legs you know you get so it was we didn’t know about the long-term effects I imagine it’s kind of like how smoking was in like the 40s and 50s you know you just yeah you just smoked you didn’t know any better but it’s now smoking at their desks at work on airplanes yeah what a world what a world I did a job in uh turkey or no in Jordan it was in Jordan and everybody in there had had uh ashtrays on their desks and stuff and I was like whoa I’m like I’m back in the 70s I’m like this is insane but yeah I think it’s the same way it’s just like here’s one of these people I’m gonna I’m gonna have this person was in the comments I just pin I grew up watching the dynasty devils and straight up if you think toughness was a major issue last year you straight up do not understand modern hockey I’m Wars absolute Wars and I’m sorry Chico Tazo you do not understand modern hock because if you watched any of the playoffs and you think the team that we iced last season in the 23 24 season if you think that team could have survived a playoff series in this year’s playoffs God have mercy on your soul because I do not know what to tell you if you watched any of the games any of them you know Soap Box rant over I mean when I see stuff like this I just can’t comprehend how you could how this could be an opinion I feel like I’m maybe getting trolled and they just trying to get a reaction out something like that or you know whatever it may be whatever this however this game evolves but I think we’re in this kind of brackish water right now of see water that’s a good one we’re in we’re in this it’s just a mix of styles and and right now grit and toughness win playoff series you know grit and toughness win in life Frank in life and you saw this year the Florida Panthers led the league in hits during the year and you look at their roster and you look at guys and you say they have dogs and you look at teams that have won the cup over the years most of them have at least a few of those type of guys and so for this guy oh man I’m just goingon to keep I hate to keep doing some people never grew out of what hockey was two lockouts ago did you see the Florida Panthers win the Stanley Cup Chico Tazo did you watch any of the playoffs any of the finals did you watch anything yeah I I I I just don’t I don’t know I I think we’re getting trolled here I I can’t believe that that would be a logical fans take on again and like you said we’re not saying toughnesses you know start line brawls and everyone fighting no but it’s being able to play those gritty games get in the corners get dirty and win some ugly games and devil no the Devils had no idea how to dump and Chase anymore they they because they didn’t have the Personnel or the want to throw that puck in the corner and go get it and you know that that’s I think what a lot of people mean by toughness and grit it’s it’s getting into those dirty areas um and and taking you know taking advantage of your strength and you know if I had to see that Luke Hughes drop pass going in on the power play like one more time last season I was just going to throw up I was just like I mean they didn’t know how to go get the puck you know and everything was just trying to bring it in so you know I think that’s what just people have to kind of realize uh of yes the games changes but there’s a lot of things that haven’t changed no for sure I don’t I don’t think regardless of how the league evolves I always think the teams that are willing to do the the extras and and get a little dirtier and go in the corners and and finish their four checks and finish their hits I think those teams are always as long as they have some skill in their lineup and they’re not just a whole team comprised of guys like that they will come out on top because obviously yeah Florida has their top top tier skill guys like barov but they also have Grinders and you saw how they almost blew the series but in the end they found a way to win that game seven and they’re probably the toughest team overall in the league I would say someone just actually wrote that um you know and they want a cup so I don’t know what the people Chico not winning another cup in my lifetime and I hope that’s not the reality and I think this core does win a cup but if this core does not win a cup it would be an organizational fail of of Epic Proportions because you can’t have the team that we have and and with that core not win at least one cup it’d be completely unacceptable you know two number one overall picks in Ni oeser and Jack Hughes a number two overall pick in shimo nemit a number four overall pick in Luke Hughes like you just can’t have this type of draft fortune and and not put it all together and win a cup you know when you see what the Penguins did when they had flurry and Crosby and Malin what did they do they were a perennial Contender for a very long time and they found a way to tweak and revamp every year bringing veterans or pieces that they thought would put them over the hump and they were they were a threat for years and years you know hopefully the Devils could kind of get to that point at some point give us a Joe hit Adam Adam are you looking to be entertained or are you looking for more rage fuel for yourself I’m super curious SE bones you already know man you already know Brady is the their old man was a throwback player you can’t just manufacture that I I wish it was that easy but you can’t and you see it with both of them there it’s it’s not a surprise that they’re both you know respected and thought of in the game the way they are because they’re descendants from Keith kachuck man and um many people talk about it and you’re actually about it in life and started a movement F those haters well I don’t know how much of a movement we really have I know there’s a bunch of people now on board daydreaming with me and I I appreciate you all keep the hope alive but man if it ever happened it’d be beautiful uh um and and I hope we see it but it it is going to be very costly and I think there’s going to be half of the league in on trying to get him because he is that special of a player Brady is too physical I agree with you there I think I think after this year they missed the playoffs and I think he says that’s it I’m out get me out of here I do think this will be Brady’s last season in Ottawa um you guys really want Jo stalgia huh what would the devil’s weakness right now or what would need to be addressed before the trade deadline I mean Joseph I’ll be honest I think the team could win a cup as is if I’m being super greedy obviously i’ would like to see a top six Winger brought in to fortify the top six I mean that would be that would would be everybody’s um I think everybody’s kind of area of improvement but I think the goal tending and defense is pretty solid I think the bottom six is pretty solid and so now the only question mark for me remains in the top six and it could potentially work out the way it is but if you’re being greedy and we’re just looking on paper obviously I would say the glaring hole would be a proper Winger for my man Jackie boy but I do believe we have the Personnel to make it work as is but again being greedy I think you know that would be the area trade starts with Mercer in our two seconds next year yeah I I just don’t think a is going to Value seconds the way a lot of people believe they are I mean they’re great depth pieces to have in the cupboard but I think otta is going to want to at least try to save some phase with the fan base at least get two roster players now um with a decent proc ECT or to I mean it’s hard to say um and the whole thing with Mercer’s deal being hung up which is why was a huge piece of why I put out the most the most recent Brady video that I did do um I kind of spelled out the dots I was connecting at the time and why I thought the deal was maybe you know being discussed behind closed doors um but obviously that didn’t come to fruition and Brady is still an Ottawa Senator but you know you never know things could change maybe if Ottawa was so far out of it at the deadline he gets shopped or maybe they’re an you know Inc contention enough to where they keep them for the stretch to try to make the playoffs and then once they don’t they deal them in the summer it’s just hard to say but I would love to see it happen yeah but the say you know people this is what people have been saying for months the sends wouldn’t trade him and we’re just spitballing and engaging in conversation I I agree with you and I I appreciate all of those that dream big with me but a lot of the people are just very negative and and talk smack and so I mean that’s an interesting one our ammo to get Brady next year starts with salv I I listen I you guys all know if you’ve been watching me for a while I wanted to trade the number 10 pick for win now help I always I personally will always take the known player and commodity over you hope that these people these guys pan out in the in the in the draft I’ve just seen too many Devils draft picks first round draft picks and some of them pretty high that didn’t pan out and you’re like what the hell and furthermore it it kind of reaffirmed it for newer fans you just saw Alex Holtz he was a number seven overall we just traded him away for nothing and so I hope that doesn’t happen with salv but in general I’ve been scarred so often by guys that bust first round picks that I’ll always almost always take the Surefire player and and that’s why I heading up to the draft was like trade the pick for a a win now piece and I was hoping for a top six Winger it didn’t happen and salive kind of fell to us on most mock drafts he was he was ranked in the top five on most and he fell to us and maybe one day he will be a great player for the New Jersey Devils and be a crucial part of our Blue Line you know into the future but you know who knows you never know and he’s in the KHL for at least a couple years keep it a buck I do Nico and a pick for Brady the thing is I I just don’t see Nico is is a great player in his own right he’s a great 200 foot player he’s gonna win a selki or two when it’s all said and done he is defensively responsible he plays the power play he plays the penalty kill and so I do think a lot of people kind of undersell his value to the team and he is the captain I just you know I wouldn’t like moving Nico personally and I would try to do anything I could to get Brady kachuck without entertaining that and you know that would be I’m I’m thinking Nico is gonna be a lifer you know and he should be that would certainly be interesting if the devil signed Keith kachuck big Walt Big time I was youthful and young and your boy was out there at all the shore bars at all the shore bars and this I agree with oh oh Devils Casey is undersized and I hate to bag on a guy for being undersized but being that he is so young and undersized and a defenseman I just don’t see how he fits into any of the team’s plans in the near future and so I believe he should be cashed in for a win now piece Brady kachuck make it happen yeah after Langan Brunner was Captain it all kind of kind of ended on a sour note I agree there but Jamie Langan burner was an absolute gangster during that 03 run along with a lot of other guys uh you know Jeff FZ and there’s tons of them but that 03 team will will always be very special and near and dear to my heart my favorite Cup team because of the bias as you get older you you you know become more involved and remember more and blah blah blah and I went to all I went to every single 2003 home playoff game except game one against Boston in the first round I was able to go to the rest of the playoff run including the finals and including the game seven and watch the Devils win the cup and so the 03 team will always be my favorite Ted how do you really feel about fits I think I’m I’m pretty well documented on my stance on fits I think last year he really you know dropped the ball with refusing to get a goalie and um that was my biggest complaint of him I do believe that we could have gotten an upgrade from what we were getting at some point in January or February and maybe made a or likely could have made a push to make the playoffs and I value playoff appearances more than anything and so it’s hard for me to let that slide I think he did a very good job this summer I think he went out with his mission of getting heavier edgier more violent I think he did did that I think our defense and goal tending is completely revamped and I am really hoping for a big bounceback year from the boys and I think everyone who forgot what happened in 2223 should could kind of you know just take a step back and remember the season we had and that there’s no reason to drop your expectations to just making the playoffs I mean making the playoffs is not a win and one of the younger fans recently told me like oh that’s all we know and you know that’s why they take pride in it but like listen you have to realize where this franchise was Oilers in this year’s Cup finals and so in in Matthew kachuck first two years as a Florida panther they won seven playoffs rounds and a cup I mean wow oh God Ryan tell him take Brady and put him with Jack and brat and let’s have fun fun would be an understatement this would be a nightly highlight reel a nightly highlight reel and I would I would spazz out if it happened um I would be ballistic I I would go absolutely Bonkers if we ever get Brady that’ll be another party um I’m not going to get ahead of myself because I’ve just been my emotions have been played with for quite a while kind of hanging on to that that prayer but um you know I would love to see it happen Ottawa is a black hole for NHL players Brady will be gone after the season I think he will be too I just don’t see them making the playoffs I mean maybe omark you know catapults them I just think I I personally believe Omar was more of a product of the Bruins than anything else and maybe I’m wrong but I personally I’m on record for months saying I did not want to trade for omark and then ultimately pay him the six to seven million dollars I think he was going to command on his contract extension I think markstrom was the much more logical solution for the moment granted he’s not a long term solution but I think he’s going to put us in really good shape for the two years that he’s here and who knows maybe he plays really well and he gets a third year while we figure out who the next goalie of the future is Schmidt is now out of that picture but I think the organization is very high on Daws he’s shown flashes of brilliant and I think niik dos could be the goenda polter or Jacob Malik or Tyler Brennan when we have all these guys and then we just drafted jarov in the second round with the pick that we got from Utah when we sent the Marino so I mean now we have so many goalies in the system that one of those guys has to pan out I’m sorry so when markstrom’s done here when marrom is done one of those guys have to step up now zebra zebra games I think are the youngest member on the channel shout out to zebra zebra games oh I’m going to take an intermission from the comments here and I will teimo Meyer shimo Nemitz I mean for the time being Dawson Mercer is part of it and so the core the core is very good and that’s why our future is super bright and why we are amongst the most favored teams in the league to win the cup that’s not by accident our core is very good and now when you revamp the defense bring in two veterans that are very stable players in pesi and Dylan and markstrom and net I mean that’s that’s a pretty big transformation for one summer a pretty big transformation for one summer and I think we’re going to see the result results oh man if we had to pick a song to thoughts on Patrick Lon would be my personal favorite deadline pickup if we could have a possible three team deal with CBJ and Anaheim for retention listen I I I’ve talked about Patrick l multiple times um over the past couple months and I think he could be a great finisher for Jack the reality is he is a bit of a wild card he is a little bit of a headcase and can he get his [ __ ] together he’s still very young I think he’s only yeah he’s only 26 years old and I think he could return to Elite Form on a wing with Jack Hughes with that being said the only way that that’s even a remote possibility is with massive retention either from a third team or the only other way we could get him without retention would be like in a in a bigger deal if they took poot and it was like you’re dumping one bad contract for another kind of thing because he makes like almost nine million bucks so that’s the hard part with maneuvering L and getting him under the cap I would love to see it I think he could be a dynamic player a change of scenery could do him well maybe he can you know flourish in a new city with new linemates and a new coach and all that stuff but I don’t know I don’t opinion really hasn’t changed that much it’s uh you know I’m I’m I think there was a lot of um you know hoopla and hyperbole about the grade I gave Fitz um I didn’t give him a failing grade I didn’t give him an F I didn’t give him a d I didn’t even give him a c minus I gave him a C+ uh closer to a B minus um very happy with what he did as I’ve said to the def in with the D very happy with the goal tending but you know we still need that top six player and uh unfortunately until that happens I can’t give him a grade that’s in the A’s or in the B’s I’m still on a b I’m still on a b I’m not going to change from my initial grade because the the reality is with markstrom peshy and Dylan better today than they were at any point last season and um you know I’m I’m fairly happy with where we are yeah if I want to be super greedy in an ideal world would I have liked the top six guy as well sure but you know that wasn’t in the cards as of yet and so I am going to sit and wait here and hope for the best and I do think there’s a variety of kind of combinations and permutations in the top six that could work out and if it turns out that it is a sore spot then Fitz is going to have to act accordingly but we’re not going to have tons of cap space to do it and so you might have to look at maybe trading out a guy like Sean ther or a guy like Bastion or there’s probably not too many others honestly that would be um easily tradable to free up cap space but I do think overall heading into the season I’m happy with the roster where they’re at let me ask you this because uh you know I wanted to come on the program uh and I want the fans to know that too fresh after the Fitzgerald press conference I did I I was declined for reasons yet not known but how do you feel how do you feel about uh the press conference I made a whole video about you listen listen you you are you and um SST 6601 our friend Stan overseas it’s probably he’s probably in an deep r sleep right now because he’s hours ahead of us he’ll probably see this tomorrow the reality is I thought the press conference was terrible and I said that and I made a video and I got killed for being negative and blah blah blah and people act like I am the you know number one Fitzgerald hater on the planet and I’m like for you people that think I’m the number one Fitzgerald hater you need to look in the comments and see what other people are saying because I do think I’m fairly Fair most of the time but I will complain when I think it’s warranted and I did I do think that that the press conference was less than ideal I thought it was kind of defe and it didn’t give the fans anything to you know it just was kind of like I’m not gonna say it was fully Doom and Gloom but it wasn’t it wasn’t anything to Rally around and I thought he could have sold it a lot better than he did you know and I made a video about my reaction to the press conference and my reaction was pretty negative and a lot of people had a negative reaction to me being negative to the press conference but there was tons of other people that said the same thing that they took away uh kind of defeat happy to make the playoffs mentality from the press conference and they weren’t happy with it either yeah no that’s uh that’s certainly not what you want your uh your general manager to say I want to get to the comments here Joe you may have said you gave him a C+ but your tone of voice said you want to yeah it was very emotional uh obviously um that day I had my my heart set on uh about four players that I think would have really complimentary to the top six and um unfortunately we we struck out on all of them um yeah you need to be deep to go deep as they say you need to be deep to go deep and um I’ll let you handle that one we’re very we’re very deep in go we’re very deep on the blue line but we’re one injury away from a catastrophe on offense and for people to say well that’s every NHL team no it isn’t no it isn’t to some extent is no not not not to not to the extent of ours not to the extent of God forbid if something were to happen to brat or Jack that’s the end of the season teams that have deep forwards they can sustain injuries uh we are in a position where we can be about the team we were two years ago and the pieces we had then we are 100% a better team now than we were then and our top six is identi yeah we we’ll agree to disagree Doug I I um oh why you disagreeing with that though he’s talking about the the year we made the playoffs that was we didn’t have to Foley then so I would say that that is pretty accurate No the same PE that we didn’t lose and that’s and to Doug’s Point here this is why I’ve been screaming for a long time saying how are you people just happy with making the playoffs because the the main pieces of of the team the core is that same team from 2223 yeah the the woods and serson and Graves and tatars now he’s back but those little pieces got shuffled out and weren’t supplanted and then combined with injury is why last year was a debacle but now I would make the argument to Doug’s Point again that the top six is the same and the rest of the team is dramatically improved and that’s why I’m very optimistic and without injury that’s why I’m hoping for a lot I mean what do you think about that let me let me let me sum it up as simplistically as I can last season we were told yeah the defense is thin it’s not deep it’s a thin defense but you know what we’re gonna outscore our problems we’re GNA be so good offensively that we’re gonna don’t worry about it because we’re going to win six4 games we’re going to win seven5 games now a season later the inverse is being said those same fans are are saying yeah the offense is thin you’re right Joe you’re right I wish we could have got a top six player or maybe two the offense is thin but you know what Joe the defense is so good it’s so much improved it’s so sound don’t worry about it because we’re going to win two one games we’re going to win three nothing games we’re going to win two Z One nothing don’t worry about it so that’s my fear is that we’re going to relive last season the deficiency of being thin only the inverse I hope I’m wrong I’m a devil’s fan obviously so I hope I’m wrong but if it came down to it you know seeing what you have seen over the course of our lives would and especially now knowing the pieces we do have on the roster wouldn’t you feel more comfortable with having to win those 2-1 or 3-2 games versus the 74 S5s sure I mean you know you can get dirty points that way the Islanders were a great example of it I think they got 20 points they got 20 points from losing I think I think it was 20 if it wasn’t 20 it was close to it and by and large those games were two to one uh to nothing you know one nothing to your point of course um but those teams aren’t really I don’t view those teams as having aspirations for a Stanley Cup I viewed us as having those those aspirations I view those aspir those teams just aspiring to let’s just get into the playoffs and see what happens maybe we’ll win a round or two you know hope we hope for a Deep Run uh they have a nucleus in a core that can sustain that whereas our nucleus in core AC and we’ve spoken about this numerous times was something we hop for much more which was the Stanley Cup I mean I think this group could do it real question say Fitzy I mean this is a say Fitzy is gone tomorrow morning who would we ideally want to take over I know who you’re going to say k Holland I mean we’ve tried the the popular opinion among the fan base is going to be Marty because he’s the assistant GM he’s underfit and he’s Marty bror so there’s a lot of obvious uh Fanfare and love there um but I don’t think ownership’s going to do that we’ve been there done that haven’t we we’ve tried the next man up approach Fitzgerald got this Ro because he was under sherrow so very rarely do organizations do that it’s very rare that an organization will say well let’s just try it again next man up I would want someone really established I would want someone uh who knows the league and has been around for a long time and is gonna install his own people um which you know say what you want about about larel that’s what he did he brought in very intelligent people he basically brought the Montreal Canadians to New Jersey with Le perier and jacqu Lam mer and um Karan and Larry Robinson and uh marot tromble Etc so that’s what I want I would ideally if F was shown the door um I would want Ken Holland or one of those experienced uh general manager Minds to come in and say okay this is going to be our lead uh guy for scouting this is going to be our our assistant general manager um you know all due respect to Kate M again I’m not really high on her uh the fans might be and if you are God bless you but uh that’s what I want I would want people that know what’s going on you always had a sense of that with the Devils you always had a sense of you know I I trust K I trust Lou I trust shock the drafting that’s K I trust K you knew these people were intelligent people they were really Brilliant Minds off the ice Marty’s a great player arguably the best goalie ever on the ice is he a brilliant mind off the ice I don’t know does anybody trust Tom Fitzgerald as a brilliant mind does anybody trusts Kate Madigan as a brilliant mind ask yourself these tough questions as fans don’t just wave pom poms ask yourself these these tough open-ended questions are is this organization in good hands in your opinion as we head into season number six out a th% you already know I I and the answer to the question for me would be I I will ride or die with Mar and so in the situation where Fitz was gone I would say give Marty the seat see what he does with it I am more than willing to see how that plays out I mean the guy’s been around the game at such a high level for over 30 years now you know 30 some odd years that I think he knows what it would take to build a contending team and maybe Embrace more of those Old School principles that it seems like we’re kind of embracing now with physicality defense goal tending and so I personally my answer obviously you already knew was Marty but to the people that may not have known my answer 100% is the great martan Broder and see what he could do you know in that role maybe he would fail but I I’m willing to take that chance personally because of the wealth of experience and knowledge within the game that he does have I I am definitely more than willing to take that shot and then we go someone’s ripping you up here about the um thin like injuri is the only thing that sunk us and not every goal in the organization got beach ball disease at the same time I mean that was yeah this is the same gentleman uh that said that we don’t have to be a tougher team yeah it it is that no no no I could defend myself I’ll file save that Chico um it’s uh duly noticed that’s it where you leaving no no I’ll be back one second that’s it yeah I’m not gonna tear people up especially you gave some some Public Service Announcement recently about how fans have to be benevolent to one another love each other you know that that we shouldn’t create lynch mobs on one another all valid points I’m not I’m not was completely nuts but I I I will say so I I’m I’m not gonna make a Lynch Mob for Chico Taz I’m gonna leave that for you to make a Lynch Mob for for me but I’m I’m not gonna I’m not going to pile on to any fan uh he’s entitled to his opinion uh with the physicality wasn’t a real thing and then he made a lot of good points you know after that so he gained some credibility back in my book just because he did say a lot of things that made sense after that but the physicality thing obviously I won’t um ever agree on obviously neither did Fitzgerald but you know then piggybacking off that no team in the NHL survives the number of injuries we had plus the bad goal tending maybe one or the other but zero NHL team surviv see when fans do this you’re arguing against the point that Lindy should have remained so you can’t have it both ways you can’t have it both ways if you want to saywell the cards we were dealt last season come on Jo stalgia nobody could have been successful with that okay then Ru should still be here you can’t you can’t talk out of both sides of your mouth and by and large the majority of our fans do they enjoy playing both sides of the coin you if you if you if you maintain that then you have to say then he was unceremoniously shown the door or if it’s the inverse if you you say that you know he deserved to be fired then you admit that we had a good enough team to make the playoffs so which is it like like you know these fans love doing they they love playing peekaboo on on on topics and um it just doesn’t work that way unfortunately on the Lindy front I I will be honest I just think do I blame the whole season on him no do I think he was part of the problem yes I just think it in situations like that it comes to the point where unfortunately he’s almost a casualty of war and it’s like you need to just change it up but to your point he was dealt almost an unrecoverable situation with all the injuries with the goenda you know in my opinion mail the season in and get the high draft pick which I would never be for I’ve said that on the program many times I’m always playoffs or BST the the group will always benefit in my opinion more from the trials and tribulations of playoff losses than they would of not we were never a fan base like that we were never fans that were defiant in the face of reality we were fans by and large that were able to admit when our organization when our franchise made a mistake coaching too did Pete deor go on and and sweep rugs the fan base read no problem saying that was a mistake he was a good coach we should have kept him what about Claude Julian Claude Julian went on after we fired him to win what two Jack Adams and the Stanley Cup the fans had no problem in the past looking at decision and choices and saying that was a mistake had Lou had the itchy trigger finger though fine but why is that why is that so different now why your fans are like no no come on put him up put them up you don’t think you don’t think Lindy would have got fired if Lou was still here come on Lindy would probably got fired sooner honestly Lindy wouldn’t have last it two wrongs don’t make her right ace two wrongs don’t make her right Doug says I think we’re cup or bust these next two years I don’t know about that um I think our window for me is basically the duration of the douge contract I’d like to think which is another I think five years six years I mean we should be pretty set up for a while but you know years tick off the clock quick and I’ve said this for time and time again when people are like oh we’re so young blah blah blah years go by man before we know it Nico is going to be 30 years old that’s the way this game goes you look at the 20 12 Stanley Cup finals appearance devils and 30 in three years what is he 26 uh you know Clarkson the way people leave in free agency guys age out and nucleuses go man and and that’s why I have personally have wanted the organization to embrace more of the really win now instead of talking about you know the future is bright this and that I do believe the future is bright but at some point the right now needs to be be bright as well and I think at some point in the next couple years Fitz is going to have to make one of those moves where people look at it and they’re like whoa that was kind of ballsy like you’re it’s gonna have to sting like you’re gonna have you had you had a poll you had a poll that you asked the fans if the Devils don’t make the playoffs this season do you want Fitzgerald to return for a seventh season and by and large everyone I think it was like 99% something ridiculous I don’t think I don’t think anyone said they would want him back so this is why this is why that’s a big if though you have to understand that’s a big if now with the moves we made people are like okay it’s it looks good on paper but if it doesn’t pan out it’s pretty much unanimous that no one would want them to come back it’s a big gift but you have to you can’t you can’t discredit other teams the East is good count them count them but who’s G to make the playoff let’s do the exercise now who’s making the playoffs in your estimation count them you’re going to see The Usual Suspects I think the difference here is you’re sitting there saying no that’s a big if Joe okay well let’s count them let’s see who who in your estimate your opinion I I don’t know that Washington will be able to make it back and I think you know I think the devils and the Red Wings will both be those teams that will push you know two other teams out whether that’s you know caps maybe the Islanders who knows you know you never know what you’re going to get with them but I do think the devils are firmly going to be a playoff team in my opinion and I’ve said I think we compete for the division I I really believe that there’s no reason why they can’t compete for the division I assuming we stay fairly healthy I think we compete for the division so let’s look at our division you who do you think we’ll say the Rangers are going to give us the most problems uh in our Pursuit for the Metro you would agree with that right not necessarily you know Carolina lost we we stole some Talent from Carolina and they you lost some guys but I think a program is winning I’m sorry I’m sorry to cut you off I heard this with Boston I heard this all season with the Bruins oh they lost everybody when you have a winning program when you’re when you’re in organization and knows how to win you can sustain a player losing a player here and there they lost several but um you know I don’t know where the pens are you there’s a lot of wild cards to me in the Metro like the Rangers I think are on the decline but I do think they’re going to firmly be a the Rangers are on the decline you said yeah dude like zaban they’re they’re starting to age out now this is this is where they’re going to have to really put their big boy pants on or figure it out because you know zabad krider these guys are are kind of you know I I don’t know it’s kind of like to me where they where the Maple Leaves kind of are with the core four like you you made it wherever you could how much further you going to get and literally shesterkin carried them for a lot of the playoffs but I I always expect the kanes to be in the mix the Islanders I don’t know what you’re going to get with them the Caps it seems like you know the Alexander oetkin playing for the goal record the pens you never know I mean the pens could get very streaky Sid’s looking to do some some damage before it’s all said and done the Flyers the Flyers were in a great position in mid-season last year toell almost outperformed everyone’s expectations before they fell off and so the division to me is is kind of up in the air I mean I think when it comes down to it gun to my head right now I would say us the Rangers and hurricanes are going to be the three teams you know at the top of the division fighting it out for a division title I think Philly’s gonna be right up there I mean they almost did it they lost you know how many injuries that they had and yeah but now they have a whole year without Carter Hart I mean he had some he was there mid till at least around midseason they lost they lost him the same time we lost McLoud with the whole Scandal um you know I don’t know but I thing you know that I bring up you bring up McLoud like people are it’s like Joe you’re so centralized and focused on T foi we didn’t just lose T foi we lost we lost Mighty Mikey motor we we lost Holtz we lost guys on offense okay it isn’t just Tyler T Foley who yes I think the world of we did lose players on offense um you know will we squeeze out some some two- one wins we’re going to have to we’re going to have to um I hope I’m wrong I I obviously I’m a devil fan I want to see my team make the playoffs so don’t be one of those you want to see your team make the playoffs come on man we want to esate the Chalice of course of ace of course of course but you know I think it’s over now I think we had a lot of fans say that he’s well you know Joe you don’t even know if he’s done he’s done he said he’s done I know he’s done because our general manager said I’m done oh you always talk about GM speak so I’m not I’m not saying that that hey SAR who else is coming we’re up to the cap there’s a group of fans talking about a uh maybe a draft Pi a trade you know if we’re buyers at the deadline we don’t even have a first round draft pick next season so who who you know as much as I we have we have multiple seconds we have prospects there’s definitely things there’s definitely moves that could be made for sure I’m not worried about that obviously my point is I think the team you’re you’re seeing now I think this is it I think this is team that we’re going to ride or die with I don’t know about ride or die I think it’s the team we start the season with but you know select a boy if Steve Eiserman can do it so can martan broer I mean that’s kind of you know not to discredit Stevie y but I think again when you have Legends of the game that have played on in International Teams and Stanley Cup winning teams I can’t discredit any guys especially those guys from that era that we’re both so fond of you know the Brett holes the new andyes like I think some of these guys can translate into um successful executives and I’d like to see at some point Marty make that leap and I think he could I he’s played on so many damn teams so you think they’re just going to run it back you think if Fitz gets fired they’re just gonna again do the next man up uh maneuvering I mean I you know I I don’t think Fitz is gonna get fired because I think we wouldn’t play off round or two this year I really do but in the in the event that he does get fired I I do think they do go with next man up again just because you know it is a franchise Legend it is Marty he’s a he’s a a legend of the sport and so it would seem like the most logical thing you know for me and I think a lot of people I mean how let’s be honest how hard of a cell is that to anybody Marty’s gonna be the GM who’s gonna outside of you who else is gonna be like no I don’t want Marty like no one I didn’t say hold on don’t do this I didn’t say I didn’t want Marty I I said I prefer Holland and any fan that says other my point even more to my point you’re not going to be up in arms about it so it’s an easy sell to the fan base it is simp that’s a lot of pressure and this is the point I was making before we veered off track you pulled your fans and they said yeah if we miss the playoffs we’re not nobody wants him back so that’s you know we’re closer I’m not this this uh mercal fan I’m closer to the other fan base than you think he look he could go on to win 10 cups and then his legacy’s known or who Fitzgerald or or CBS I’m saying that’s the best case scenario or we miss the playoffs let’s play because there’s two sides to a coin we miss the playoffs and he gets fired and 10 years from now nobody’s gonna remember this bickering they’re just gonna say yeah some fans wanted him gone the sixth season and some fans wanted him gone the fifth season that’s me I was done with them after the fifth season some fans need to see one more year and that’s fine that’s fine I’m not judging but that’s that’s where we are as a fan base I’m not going to come and spit fire and you know fake getting angry if it’s artificial um I’ve made peace this is the team uh I think the offense took a step back I think the defense took a step forward I think the goal tending obviously took a step forward coaching that remains to be seen and and we’ll see I think that’s fair uh I’m just scan in the comments here I think that’s a fair point to Ted’s point that this is possibly the best goalies and defense that Keef has ever had and and you look at the the resume of Keef he’s never missed the playoffs in his career as a playoff coach and juniors NHL AHL won the caler cup in the AHL and so obviously his resume speaks for itself what will the Kei resume be in his in year one as the New Jersey Devil’s bench boss and I’m hoping that it’s at a minimum I’ve said multiple times I’m on record I believe at a minimum we win a Playoff round and with this group assuming we are healthy I think they could really make a push I really do I think we’re going to be you know more reminiscent of the oldtime Devils hockey obviously not the same the league is different but with a emphasis on with the Personnel in place now we have peshi Dylan and markstrom andette with some Grinders in the bottom six some physical boys I do think that this could be a well-rounded roster that could make a run I I really do and and everyone forgets you know aside from the the forward injuries douge was a massive a massive loss enormous massive massive loss yeah I mean Chico I I I’m of the people that have you know been on record saying I don’t see any reason why it’s it’s such an insane thought to say that they could be a cup winning team and again Vegas agrees we’re the third or fourth most favorite team to win the cup per Vegas odds granted yes that was the case last year as well we like oh they said that last year too yeah well again like people pointed out our goalies fell off a cliff and we had the most insane injuries up and down the lineup the whole season and so it’s I hate to make excuses for it but to me that is a a quintessential kind of throwaway season there no excuses and more to the point where I keep saying this to me now with the changes we made this off season is a revamped and in my opinion on paper a much better or not much better but a decent amount better version of the 2223 team that made it to the second round the defense easily better easily better Severson and Graves gone cool peshy and Dylan in that’s an upgrade the defense and Schmid gone markstrom in that’s an upgrade AG the bottom six guys tatar’s actually back and then you’re talking about what wood wood and who else did we lose wood and Sharon goar is back but versus manager and N that’s a little bit closer but overall I would say the team to me on paper is a good chunk better than that playoff team in 2223 that set the franchise record with 112 points in the regular season Tom Fitzgerald came on his press conf conference and suggested to most tar as a top six player this is a player who I like I like tar but he’s a journeyman six different teams the last six years he’s 34 years old he’s coming off a nine goal season that makes you comfortable to hear your general manager say that to suggest patar in the top six no and and I told everyone I honestly it was coming off of that wave where you know I try not to be negative like I really do right like we talk a lot privately you can’t be positive in the in the face no so I sat it out I sat it out because I ripped him for the press conference and and other things in a short time span the Schmid my initial reaction to the Schmid Holtz trade was a little you know over the top I did feel I liked cter but I did feel like we overpaid and in the moment when it first got announced I made a video right away and like I was heated like because you know Holtz was a guy that a lot of people looked at that could potentially be our top a top six guy a 30 goal scorer um and Schmid uh one of the guys that could have maybe have been the next franchise goalie in that group of all those guys we have and so I think a lot of people like myself were shocked at the value we got I always liked Cotter that was never an issue it was just for me the price we paid and so coming off of that negativity and some other things when Tatar came out it was kind of a gut punch to me because I was like [ __ ] like that’s that’s the top six answer and I was deflated and I almost made a video and the video had been super negative so I said to myself let me sit it out I I’m just not going to comment on this at the moment and just cool off because when everyone was looking for that last piece of the puzzle which he listed um in a conversation to another GM that was regurgitated through the media that heading into the summer he was looking for a top 4D a bottom 4D a top six forward a bottom six forward and a goenda and then when Tatar kind of when that got announced and it seemed to everybody like that was the last deal that’s going to happen and that’s your potential answer for the top six um I was obviously less than impressed and so I did not make a video because at the time I was super pissed and I saw a lot of people and I realized our fan base at least a good chunk of them get overly giddy I would say for the reunions like certain reunions I think are called for and I would get giddy for too but like certain ones I’m not going to get giddy over a reunion for the sake of a reunion and I feel like the Tatar thing was kind of that well said and and when it came out I saw people’s comments and I’m like dude are you guys really like this he scored nine goals Ed up about this like dude like it’s a nice memory but I’m behind that’s past that’s 2223 like that’s behind us I’m not trying to rekindle that magic and so I hope it works out it is a fairly lowrisk High reward obviously fits is banking on uh him coming in and refining that chemistry with Nico and Mercer but the the fact remains is that you don’t know if that’s going to happen and even if it does that to me is still a patchwork top six kind of move that’s not a Bonafide top six when we’re already counting on Mercer I do believe Mercer can play in the top six but again I I in previous videos talked about like guys that can play in the top six and guys that are like ideal top six players I’m hoping Mercer you know has a big bounceback year proves proves the haters wrong and has a big year I’m a big Mercer fan with that being said I was I more than willing to throw him in all the different trade packages for Brady kachuck but um I think he needs to step it up this year but like back to the Tatar thing when that came out as the last piece I was kind of I I’m not gonna lie I was a little devastated because I always had envisioned like there was fin coming in as something substantial and to me that just wasn’t it I actually felt bad for you because you were uh you were really abused because you were so disgruntled over that press conference and the fans I don’t like there’s nothing to be positive over the press conference your general manager needs to install and instill some sort of um positivity and enthusiasm and that press conference was void of that I’m sorry that that was I’ve never I’ve never heard a general manager talk about last season as a silver lining that’s a direct quote that that was his words and if anybody’s pleased with that you’re not a fan you’re not a fan you don’t want your general manager to come out and say that I want my general manager to come out and say Le season cannot and must not ever happen again it’s a black eyy in this organization that’s what I want my general manager to say not well you know we had ball Luke and neik what did people expect Les season will be you as a silver lining that’s that’s that’s a travesty to speak like that and it’s insult to fans like longtime fans like you and I and it’s an insult to the players there’s no player in their right mind not Jack not Luke not Nico that heard that and said yeah he’s right I guarantee you that no I don’t speak to the fan to the players but no player no player heard a a general manager speak like that and fist pumped over that you’re delusional if you think otherwise I I think most people took a similar kind of overall message from it as as we did I mean I I told the I told the the audience that you were lighting up my phone mid mid press conference blowing up my phone I was actually driving to credential Center to watch development camp and listening to it in my car as you were texting me all the Venom but I mean it was painful I just don’t know like I I said like like political people have like strategists and and you know stilling you have to have some sort of role playing exercise beforehand and just try to give optimism I don’t know there was a couple moments where he got punkish too at the media like a couple times he’s like I just gave you my punch list what do you want this is the top six another reporter said Jake Allen’s turning 34 next month and Marsh’s turning 35 do you have any reservation whatsoever of age being a factor and the possibility of injury during the he cut her off he’s like no you so you could see like and just be fair that’s all I asked from the fan base everybody killed Lindy for beating up the media right poor Novo there was a candle vigil after that just be fair is all I ask just be fair everybody got mad oh no one for the organization should speak to the media that way well your general manager got punkish many times we rewatch that it definitely wasn’t as snarky as Lindy got though no it wasn’t as snarky that’s true I mean that was like the crescendo and I feel bad for Lindy listen I mean I feel like people were kind of you know probing him for a while and he knew that everyone wanted you know everyone was rooting for Holtz even the reporters right like everyone wanted to see Holtz fulfill the potential of a number seven pick a guy that people thought was going to be the next you know the next great thing and for him to constantly get buried with you know eight eight nine minutes a game and blah blah blah and so I think that Lindy kind of felt that and then his breaking point was obviously when Novo hit him with that and then he hit him he hit him back with the well you don’t watch the game very well and that was kind of and then I feel like the the momentum behind Holtz got even more because everyone was like oh man like everyone’s against this guy like can’t we can’t he just catch a break and it’s unfortunate the way his career ended on this team it really is uh I wouldn’t be shocked either way for him honestly I wouldn’t be shocked if he does fulfill that potential in Vegas and I wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up in one of the Swedish leagues or in the KHL I it wouldn’t surprise me either way and I guess the Devils just kind of came to the end of the rope with him and they were just like we’re going in a different direction we’re over the project I it may have become a distraction in the locker room who really knows but I’m sure everyone knew about the media and the fans and blah blah blah and so you know all I could do is hope for the best hope that Cotter becomes an absolute animal for us and we win and then no one will give a [ __ ] about any of this and water under the bridge I would like to see uh you know some some sort of a camp uh call up try out um for an older veteran you know that was the case I know a lot of teams used to do that Philadelphia called Billy Garen Once Upon a Time um The Devils too we invited ter Sano for a try out we invited uh timos Cabret so I would like to see that that would be cool uh to to to you know call to kick the tires dump dpar thing was I’m sorry that’s what the but the what you’re describing is basically what happened with ttar well ttar was going to find a team you would you would agree I’m talking about maybe an older an older player maybe even a player would talking about Joe Thorton I mean how crazy you getting here you call [ __ ] Joe thoron I love it I don’t care how that sounds I don’t care how that sound you’re not gonna call yogger forget Thorton let’s just call yogger you’re not gonna tell me that you wouldn’t be pumped with thoron or yogger as a call as a camp tryy out so so don’t I I mean we’re getting we’re now I’ll tell you this I I would have been in the years when we knew we weren’t going to do anything I would have been like fill the whole roster with these guys and give me something to watch because I know we’re not making the playoffs my viewpoint does change when I believe we have a true contending team and that there is no I don’t want to say a wasted roster spot but like I become less nostalgic because now I’m really hoping to win but l so it is a little different Lou was he was known for that y yger came in no one no one assumed that he was going to to replace to be able to push for a Gretzky goal record is ridiculous um you know piggybacking off of that the martan Broder NHL wins record is one that I don’t think you’ll even see anyone remotely come close to for a variety of reasons U primarily being you know Marty was so damn good for so long again you know they’re letting guys start 45 50 games at most they’re talking about if guys are starting if starting goalies are starting call it 50 games on average right even if they went 35 and 15 on average per year they would have to play 20 Seasons to beat Marty’s wins record and I do believe the the great martan Broder wins record of 691 is one of the most unbreakable records in sports and I believe that record will stand the test of time I don’t think anyone ever breaks Marty’s wins record I don’t know that anyone will even come close to it I don’t even think anyone comes close Snelly I don’t know if you’re talking about the four nations Faceoff or the um Olympic team but for both of them I’d imagine that both Jack and Quinn are deadbolt locks for both and I think Luke is the wild card and so I do think obviously with the last name he will get a slight kind of bump above other people but um I do think there is a pretty good CH I mean you’re guaranteed to see two of the three and I think there’s a good chance you see you see Luke make it as well but two of the three are all but a guarantee demo with the kiss of death Jack Hughes will be top scorer of the season in 24-25 we will have a great run this year that’s my prediction I mean I hope you’re right ljf I did see the new cap but I think Luke has the potential to be better than him I can’t see it I can’t see it I think Jack would be a top five player in the game if he bulked up a little bit and could play 82 games my biggest um my biggest knock on Jack is that I don’t know that we’re ever GNA see an 82 game you know 82 Game season out of him and it’s unfortunate but I do think with bulking up with you know committing to the weight room and things like that that will definitely help him not get injured but the type of game he plays he does take bumps here and there and it’s a problem I mean he hasn’t played 82 yet and and I I hope this year is kind of the pendulum swings in the right direction of him staying healthy but I just don’t know and it’s it’s a very big question mark and it’s hard for me to put him when he’s on and healthy I agree that he’s a top five player I don’t think I can’t see Luke being better than him I can’t I mean I I would love to be wrong I just can’t see it because that’s a hard one I’d be happy if Luke was a a Norris nominee but I do think now the Norris Trophy in my opinion is going to basically alternate between kale marar and Quinn Hughes for probably the next decade maybe even longer like I think those are going to be the two the two Front Runners um for a while they’re both very good defensemen very very good defenseman and yeah this is to my point here gem card I never see this brought up I’m I the only one that’s worried about Jack he averages like 60 games a year and that’s exactly what I just said I didn’t even you know I’m still way behind on the comments here and that’s my thing can Jack Hughes play 82 games um and so far the answer is no and I hope that gets fixed at some point and we see some sort of you know Iron Man streak out of him but it just seems like so far in his career staying healthy has been an issue and I don’t know that you know 82 games is going to be a regular occurrence for him yeah the the giveaway show I’m and I guess my first question for you sir would be now that the dust is kind of settled and it seems like at least for the moment that the roster is kind of set heading into the 2425 season how are you feeling about this group going into next year I’ll use a quote from one of my favorite movies and you totally redeemed yourself I love it I love it I I actually I’m look I’m stoked you know you you were talking me off the ledge with season tickets ended up buying into a flex plan and I’m I’m actually very excited for next season I think we got grit man we got size I I think the uh the kids are going to be able to do what they can without worrying about somebody breathing over their shoulder I think they’re going to have room I don’t know uh for whatever reason I’m just super excited the team’s totally transformed in the past couple weeks from probably the softest team in the NHL to now A Team you really don’t want to mess with no I I agree I think I don’t know you Pro you probably weren’t watching earlier but there was someone in here who doesn’t believe that the physicality was an issue I said I don’t know how how much of the Devils you had watched or if you watched any of the playoffs I think most people you know the number one menu item was you know get some protection for these kids because it was a sad occurrence uh all too often last season where we got beat up and then obviously the goal tending situation I am trying to temper my expectations I would say I I’ve been on record now for a couple weeks saying that I believe we win at least a Playoff round but with marstrom for two years with peshi and Dylan BR in with a revamped defense with hopefully more experience and uh kind of seasoning from Luke and nemits I I believe we could go far man I really do I’m trying to you know not not get totally drunk off of the you know the vapor of the improvements but I I have now the mindset like why not us is kind of where I’m at right now yeah I mean once they get Brady at the trade deadline it’s gonna look great yeah you had to you had to drop that in there we talked about that earlier I will continue to hold that hope it makes all the sense in the world I do think is going to kind of grip onto him with the death grip for as long as possible but I do think that ultimately when they miss the playoffs this year unless they’re super far out at the deadline I think they keep them for a potential you know hope to make the playoffs kind of situation and I think at that point in the summer he goes to stos and says I’m out of here get me out once he has one practice with Travis Green he’ll realize what’s up I but there is a there is a rumor I saw out there that that Travis Green is friends with his old man and people thought that was kind of a maneuver to kind of massage the situation and keep him happy I mean look blood over everything and he’s literally blood with fits right so uh I I thought I maybe we’re looking too much into that I don’t know how I mean just with a plus b plus C like you know Fitz is his cousin right he he he literally had a vid interview a couple years ago where he said he loves the Hughes family like his own family and then his wife is from New Jersey I mean to me the table couldn’t be more like set in our favor to make this happen and he laced up and he was at the Armory last week well I think so a lot of people I think made a little bit too much to do about that because his wife is from New Jersey I believe for the past few years he has spent a nice trunk of his summer in New Jersey and so I think a lot of people kind of ran wild with that yeah he he’s like chilling over in Spring leag yeah like this is he’s normally doing but it’s like well how nice would it be if like this was you know kind of a this could be more of a weekend type of thing versus a summer thing oh I look I I think the chances of this happening is less than I don’t know 20% and that that’s an optimistic out 20% is pretty good but I’ll take it right I mean it’s I still think they can do many many good things without him but let let’s go into what you what it would actually take to get him I mean let’s let’s say ottawa’s out of it right so they got a team that they can I guess build with they’re probably not going to be able to sign what’s his face um I don’t know I mean Mark yeah I feel like they they had to kind of know I I don’t think they make a move like that personally I don’t think they make a move like that without knowing what it’s going to take and and on the flip side of that be willing to pay it because that is if that ends up being a true rental like then stos really is dumber than anyone could have imagined so I do think we will see at some point all Mark sign an extension there there did they get take the main reason I really wanted it to happen this year is because I do think that number 10 overall pick was a huge bullet we had in the chamber that we do not have anymore agree um and so now I’ve seen and I’m sure you have as well the speculations of of different articles and and social media and all these things there was people out there that said they Devil’s fans that said they wouldn’t trade nemt for him straight up which I think I Ottawa would laugh at you I don’t think Ottawa ever even considers doing that deal but for me when I saw Devil’s fans say that they wouldn’t do that I thought was laughable homie that that’s insane i’ I’d give him nemit Mercer and probably Casey straight up yeah I mean that you know when if it came down to it I would probably do that too and a lot of people would say that that’s super Steep and I would say I don’t give a [ __ ] super steep for what a 26y old I think that’s how old he is a 26y old who has 10 years of studliness ahead of him 100% he’s on the top of the charts and and every it’s funny I keep making videos completely unrelated to him and somehow he keeps resurfacing on all the charts the other day I was doing one about deal heading into this year so assuming he stays on the Senators this whole season he’ll still have three years locked up at 8.2 I think half the league would be in on him but I’d have to imagine in this scenario that he tells stos he would love to go to New Jersey for all the reasons we’ve already outlined and I would be willing to pay a steep price too I would love to keep nemit if possible I would love to keep Brett uh I thought heading into this summer if it was going to happen it was going to be something like you know Mercer that 10th pick plus plus plus whatever that is yeah but if it came down to it I think I’m with you where I would pay the You Know M or Nemitz Casey I think I do that I unfortunately you know it sucks uh to lose those pieces but I can’t keep living on the prayer of the future in the window down the line and blah blah blah I’m firmly in the win now camp and I do believe overall swapping those pieces out for Brady kachuck you are much closer to a cup with Brady than those other pieces and that’s just kind of how I look at it and they can’t afford otherwise right like as much as if if they want a big time player like that at $8 million they’re not going to be able to keep nemit and pay Luke at the same time they’re not going to be able to pay merer more than his Bridge deal like it’s it’s not going something Something’s Gonna have to give exactly when they come off when when Luke and nemt come off those those uh entry level contracts they’re both going to get Hefty raises and like people and I’m kind of shocked this I understand you know the cap goes up every year yada yada but like there’s tons of people out there thinking that Luke’s gonna get like monster money like n million plus I think they might go a bridge deal on him and nemit as well so who knows but if you’re you if they both get bridged uh you’re still kind of kicking the ball down you know you’re you’re playing the long game and at some point they’re not all going to fit Luke’s probably worth a bridge two years at six I’d say but I mean if if he goes long term it’s probably gonna have to be north of seven you know I mean people are saying north of nine which that’s insane you can’t just tell them like listen bro like your brother is the franchise player you have to take like eight or or seven and a half and people are thinking that might not be enough to get it done and it is crazy the economics of the sport today and then what I think people were talking about was Owen uh Owen power just signed a monster deal which might impact it I don’t know man look at Victor Hedman he just signed for what like eight years what stamco should have got I mean it’s like Luke is great and he’ll probably be awesome but I you got to show me something from to get nine well you the reality is because you know the brother situation I always tell people you know they’re not trading either one of them that’s just the reality and so that would leave if you’re in a money crunch that would leave nemt as the odd guy out unless you know you somehow with the cap increase you do figure out a way to move out Mercer Andor a guy like plot maybe with retention like there is opportunity there but in terms of like fitting Brady like yeah something massive would have to give um and I think it would plot would have to be included whether it was to a third team or something yeah it was like a 25% retention how you fit him and honestly at this point at six million like in the right deal I would even retain half of it like whatever that’s tough to swallow it is but it’s $3 million of found money that’s true it’s tough yeah you see what the Rangers are doing with trouba they’re ready to swallow like 50% of that what’s he getting right now eight oh I don’t know how many I don’t think there’s gonna be people beating down their door for that and then there apparently there’s something there’s something in the works I read obviously the Red Wings thing fell but I read something about him and the flames and it kind of makes sense but it doesn’t if I’m trouba and the wife situation I don’t want to talk about the Rangers but you know if like the whole thing where oh wife’s residency like why in the world would he want to go not even far away but to another country and have to deal with customs and this and that when his wife clearly cannot go with him otherwise she just wasted seven years in medical school no yeah it’s definitely a pain in the ass but it’s like you know I think he has enough money to be like uh do you have to work anymore but it is a definitely complicated layer on you know players lives and and intertwinings of all that stuff but here we got a comment ljf trading nit and Casey would ruin the long-term division uh long-term Vision rather defense-wise and I would say I could argue that yeah I mean go for it but you know you got Salia go ahead what do you got on that yeah I they’re building it I mean it’s I yeah I I agree but at some point you have to say how much I mean yeah sure defense wins championships but if you have an offensive Jugger like dude could you imagine I mean we have how much left of teimo Jack um I mean I Henrik gets traded a few years later you see how quickly they age and as I get older I do become more of the I don’t I want to say pessimistic necessarily but it’s like you do see how good teams age and get disbanded and before your very eyes and you’re like what happened to that whole group and I feel like unless Fitz really does a ballsy move and truly goes what I would call Allin in the next few years that we might be seeing more of that history repeating itself again with this group which started at even younger ages honestly yeah I mean look NE Nish is great and but I don’t think he’s gonna be a a Al mlar in a year a headman in two years like I maybe but that’s a gamble are you willing to take a gamble versus something where yeah you bring Brady in and you are not even a cup Contender probably a cup favorite I mean I think we’re already third or fourth most favorite I’d imagine Brady Landing here would definitely put us you know right at the top of the list yeah so that’s way you got to look at it right like I I get the point that that dude made that totally makes sense however what what do you feel better about your defensive core for the next seven years I guess or three years of solid cup contention I’m always in group b my friend that makes brother I’m always in group b yeah talking about the future and and you know the window the the the window is this long and how good we’re going to be in this year like we’ve been hearing this [ __ ] for years now and like I said we’ve seen previous cores age out and move on for a variet of reasons and before we know it our captain Nico is going to be 30 years old yep dou is going to be on his way out and everyone’s going to be like what the happened here and you’re gonna and and I would tell all these people you kept talking about the future you got sold the Future Vision and you ignored the present I do think there is a delicate balance to it but in the end to me at some point there’s going to have to be a deal where you say o this really stings for the you know the longer term Vision but it put us in the driver’s seat to win now and and that’s what it has to be in my opinion and you’re never going to just lock into a cup where all these guys miraculously gel together and you won despite you know doing what I would call like more nonsense tinkering or you know dealings that you didn’t really make that one that was like oof like that’s a gamble almost yeah and you have a jack nobody nobody realizes that but you keep saying it like and others have said it too the guy barely plays 60 games that ain’t going to change right like unless he put on so use him you don’t know what’s going to happen in three years four years from now after he keeps taking hit after hit and toll on his body after you know grueling injury here and there like how how effective is his speed going to be once he’s 28 29 30 like use him now man use it now go in go in now but yeah and then I saw the organization does the comment about doesn’t want him that that’s it’s lot of speculation there I mean I don’t know if I’m Blitzer and or Harris Blitzer I want to put butts in seats I want to make playoff Revenue if I bring in Brady I can raise up season ticket prices by 30% people are probably still gonna pay for him if if they sign Brady I would volunteer for the team and I I would certainly raise millions of dollars through a variety of initiatives but I don’t know like do you think those guys even know enough to realize the economic impact of a guy like Brady like I feel like you would have to kind of know the sport somewhat in depth and you know they’re these Super Rich billionaire groups whatever and they own all these sports teams but like do you think it resonates with them like this X Y and Z would happen if we got Brady like do you think they know that no but recency bias does and they see the success that Matthew is having and to them he’s another one of Matthew right it’s a tomato tomato in a sense and MH although they’re different but if I’m an outsider knows a little bit about hockey and I own a team and I’m like wow this guy’s brother just did this and the Florida Panthers actually have a cult fan following now and they’re selling out season tickets yeah maybe I bring in the brother I I think it’s the next best option honestly they’re both complete Throwbacks um descendants of the legendary Keith kachuck and I’ve loved them both I wanted we talked about earlier a couple people were saying it as well I wanted Matthew more than anything years ago when those rumors were coming up that obviously never materialized I’m happy to have Nemitz now but in the end I really did want Matthew then Florida won the sweep stakes and you saw you know how the The Fortunes of the franchise have changed since they made it to the Cup finals last year go all the way back this year and win a cup like seven rounds seven playoff series won in his first two years with a cup you don’t really have many other success stories like that in someone’s first two years on a team in the NHL really exactly and then going back to the point like yeah could destroy the core and nemit and all this sure right is it the safe bet to keep building the team from within absolutely you might be contenders for the next seven years but again you’re not favorites right if you want to do that play the outside and roulette but I’ll play the inside and hope for the big payout no I I’m right there with you I’m super curious and we’ll probably never know because he he does overshare sometimes Fitz he does but I’m curious like was there ever even a conversation about Brady like I would feel better if I knew that there was one I don’t know why because we still don’t have them right but like at least if I on this m when I’m done in a second but I’d have to say a true I do believe Brady is and his brother Matthew both are true unicorns and that they do do everything they do it well and that the economic and just kind of overall Spirit of what they bring to a franchise is not really you don’t really I don’t think there’s too many other cases like it at least in recent memory and I do believe that there’d be so many teams trying to get him that the something along the lines of the packages we are talking about would be what it would take to get him especially because even after this upcoming season he would still have three more seasons at 8.2 I mean what what are your thoughts on that yeah simple economics my man like if if if Ottawa is in a spot where they can’t make the playoffs and they’re probably shopping Brady because he says I don’t want to play for y’all anymore I’m going on how many seasons without even sniffing the playoffs like get me the hell out of here blood will be in the water and sharks will be in that water and everyone will want to do what we’re talking about so if flip it on them if you’re the GM of the Senators what do you want right name your price you literally get to name your market price I do you think he’s just gonna flip something like like they did with Hall no he’s gonna want he’s gonna want a lot and I think that that’s probably the only way that we get someone like him is if you give them you give them a deal that they can’t say no to and they want to build to the Future that’s something you build around can Dawson be the future for us sure but I’d rather have Brady can nich be there sure but if you’re Auto as GM getting both of those for someone who doesn’t want to play for you who you’re probably not going to extend yeah I do that so I don’t so I guess the question is okay if that’s not the answer then how do you get him or do you just say nope we’re we’re fine where we’re at I I was honestly hoping that I just thought because that number 10 pick I thought our best chance our best chance truly was going to be this summer um I AG I do think that was a huge bullet that you know is now gone right and it’s like people the four plus other guys there’s tons of other prospects as well that aren’t nearly as regarded as they are but I do think that you know after you pick a guy like that the team kind of falls in love with this concept and I just can’t see like I well like I I do feel like Salia wouldn’t have the trade value that the number 10 pick would have had and maybe I’m wrong with that but I do feel like the number 10 pick giving the team their choice and the flexibility versus the guy you pick I don’t know so like to me that’s a huge bullet removed then like we have this question mark of what what’s Mercer’s deal going to be but I do think that you could have the the the same kind of framework even next summer where you’re talking about Mercer you know plus a pick plus a combination of whether it’s Casey nitz whatever else other prospects maybe they fall in love with the kid gritsuk from the KHL or that other guy ham naho I don’t know how I’m butchering his name but we do have other other pieces um I just feel like there really would be a bidding war and so to the point here where you know that this guy Chico’s trying to say that I think our packages are crazy I don’t think they are best interest of Ottawa if the they’re still in remote contention at the deadline then at the last case scenario you know sometime after their season ends before July 1 to move him at that point because then it’s going to get real dicey where he’s going to have a lot of say in where he goes and that could handcuff them and get them a much lesser return than they would be able to get before July 1 so that and that’s another reason why I was hoping that it was all going to materialized this year but I can’t I can’t um you know KNX stos he knows what he has in the kid and he’s now doing every single thing he can to keep them there and this is a make or break year I think they in the end like I said with the contract and what they gave up in trade they overpaid for Omar betting on him to pan out um and that that was the only move they had really because if it doesn’t work out and they move Brady then it doesn’t matter like he’ll probably lose his job and you know 10 year rebuild so work out for a while and I feel like we’ve never seen like a lengthy audition because of injuries and the line shuffling and all that I do think and this would kind of probably suck for Nico but I do think a potential brat Jack Teemo line could be like could be like aine 2.0 like magician [ __ ] nasty dude nasty peanut butter and jelly man peanut butter and jelly was witho just doing his pure he signed that contract I think a lot of people that may not have been fans for as long they see a guy getting paid more than Jack and I think they immediately look for him to score more points than Jack right well Jack’s contract is an anomaly right 100% Mitch getting 13 over almost double what Jack’s that’s insane Jack Jack is definitely one of the most team-friendly deals in the league and and I have to give Fitz darald the credit there because I believe they gave him that deal after like a 50 or 51-point season and I remember when it was announced I was like holy [ __ ] I was like Fitzgerald better be right about this kid like I obviously was hoping and rooting for the best but I was like holy [ __ ] to give this kid a was a eight years eight million whatever was $64 million deal coming off a 51o season when he had like 20 points or whatever it was his rookie year I was like they must really like what they see in in practice or whatever because to me that was a massive massive calculated gamble that obviously worked out but yeah the Teo contract like think about it think about it in terms of like appreciation in inflation right in in a few years from now find me a power forward that’s 30 goals a year in a Bad season that’s paying that’s getting paid less than 10 million for sure for sure and and that’s what people don’t understand is that when you lock these guys up yeah when the cap constantly goes up yeah you’re going to see guys that are way less of of the player Teemo is you know making similar money in a couple years because of that long-term deal like you said with the inflation and the nonsense I’m a huge Teo guy I think that you know he was playing injured early on in the year played through it then he finally came out of the lineup and then it was clear that even when he came back um he was still playing through an injury because he got a season ending injury or surgery rather after the season wrapped up and didn’t go play in the worlds for team Switzerland and when he was put on the right wing and got power play time the man was a monster monster while injured while still injured and so for me coming into the next season you know under a new coach new system hopefully fully healthy I I think we might see a really a really special year out of Teemo and I love his kind you know anyone physical bull do you remember that goal I but outside of that I mean he doesn’t make the good passes he turns it over constantly he can’t clear it out of the Zone he’s to me he’s a massive Li massive liability I’d rather have nich out there on a top pairing versus Seer on paper I do like Hughes being with peshi and and being with Dylan I don’t like santhal on the top pair but it’s like if you bump him out of there then I think you’re going to end up with a less than ideal other situation like okay let’s just say you swapped him and Dylan and Dylan was the top pairing with Hamilton oh I don’t like that yeah now the third pairing is Sean thaler and neem like I do kind of like that dou with pesi they did play together in Carolina right yeah but he but he would be playing his not natural side I mean you don’t need you don’t need douge you just need to float around in the offensive system you put pesi on his natural side exactly like what is if you’re naturally on the right side when he flops over to left like how much like what what really are we losing there he’s a traffic hone anyway I love douge but he’s a traffic hone is that and again if that is a potential that peshi and douge gets reunited and I’d be so curious to know behind closed doors what douge saying about the guy because I’m sure he had a lot to say before we signed him um yeah you know then you you’re gonna have a pair somewhere where you’re like I don’t know yeah then what are you gonna have Hugh then who would Hughes be with it’s like unless you leave nemt and Hughes together which could be Calamity situation on some nights yeah I wouldn’t want that um but I don’t know it’s kind of messy if you’re not trying to push multiple guys off their natural side um and I do I would love to see him dealt as well I mean I before before the summer started I said I firmly believe and this is all on you know video evidence I said I firmly believe two of the three of Marino ball and Sean ther will be gone and I was personally hoping that ball was the one that left just because of his size and maybe what I was delusionally hoping his ceiling could be and that Sean doar and Marino were the two moved out but now that it is ball and Marino now moved out I’m like can we just get rid of to Seer too and I think a lot of people are there as well and could we plug in a cheaper option for him there and save some cat money too I don’t know I mean
