Braves vs. Padres Game Highlights (7/12/24) | MLB Highlights

Matt Waldren leading his team out onto the field tonight in San Diego Matt Waldren getting ready for his 19th start as Xander bogard’s back boy it’s been a long time since the Padres were in Atlanta and of course that’s where he fractured his shoulder and it was really anticipated that it would be much later in the summer before we’d see Xander so it’s a welcome sight yeah he’s brought himself back certainly a welcome addition to this Padre offense swings at the 1- one and Pops it up back goes Bogarts in his first game back and he makes the catch for route number one and now here’s ozie alz ground ball to the backand at Short Stop for cam the throw is in time two down Austin Riley standing in on the right side line drive caught at first Bas by cronenworth one two three for Matt Waldren Padre’s coming up and it will be Spencer schwellenbach on the mound for the Atlanta Braves Spencer schwellenbach CJ coming off a fantastic start against the Philadelphia Phillies six Innings just one run there’s the two two pitch line drive towards left field Eddie Rosario in Pursuit runs it down and one down here on the top of the first inning and here is jerkson proar another one out to Eddie Rosario over toward the line so a pair of fly outs to start the bottom of the first now the first baseman Jake cronenworth two and0 Jake swings lines it softly toward second albe backing up able to make the catch on the Outfield grasp and a 1 two three bottom of the first first head to the second no score one down here in the second inning Xander Bogart’s back in the house back up the middle into center field a base hit for Bogarts that’s that’s got to feel good for him nothing better than coming off the iil after missing a long period of time and getting the knock and your first a beat one out runner at first and Jackson Merrill Bard’s GS is lead at first held on by Olen there’s a ground or two first Olsen goes to Second for one and that’s all they’re going to get because of the throw and they get the lead runner in boggards for out number two so two away and now here is David Peralta ozie alz ranges over and takes it and a couple of good Innings so far for Spencer schwell andb one out walk to the number nine hitter two down for Jeron proar 3-1 is hit in the air to right field ranging over Duvall reaching up he’s got it right in front of the fence agashi is stranded and schwellenbach gets out of the bottom of the third unscathed first walk alow by Matt Waldren comes with one out in the fourth inning Matt olon strolls to the plate the grounder back to the mound walen’s going to second base for one on to First for two nicely done the 163 DP Jay cronenworth leads off bottom of the fourth inning oh want to fly ball to deep left field heading towards the corner here comes Eddie can’t get there that bounces down by him and rolls into the corner Edie sends it into the cutof man Orlando Aria and as he does Cronin worth is standing in second with a leadoff double so cronenworth at second base as Manny Machado stands in on the right side to right and that’s going to be a fair ball one hop the wall around from second comes cronenworth and the Padres will get the game first run on top one to nothing Manny matado drives it in Padre’s going from Line to Line here in the fourth lead off double for cronenworth followed by a double from Machado fast ball up out over the plate this as good as it gets Padres get on the board here one nothing and he it’s second base trade spots with Cronin worth and now Xander bogur Olsen backing up he’s got it right up against the short wall for the first out two down in the inning and Peralta standing in swinging Miss there’s a great splitter down goes Peralta Marcelo Zuna leads off for Atlanta that ball is in the air it is hit high and deep to left Center and this thing is tied on a big fly from the Big Bear what a piece in the top of the fifth Marcelo Zuna 25th of the Season we’ve talked quite a bit about it Brandon the 76 rbi’s now for Marcel Ozuna that is the most bra Braves franchise history before the All-Star break and he hammered that ball I got a little concerned when he first hit it I’m like man did he get that too high but this was a moon shot nobody out Adam Duval who had an infield single in his first did Bat will come up to hit here against walri fair ball inside the line Adam Duval heads for second and he’s in there with a double so now the Braves a golden opportunity here to grab the lead in the top of the fifth Rosario butts it down the first base line he is tagged by cronenworth but he does move through ball to third with just one away now the Padres are going to bring their infield in with Travis darno coming up through the right side Travis darno delivers and the Braves are up two to one we’ll talk about team at bats team approach and that is exactly what you just saw from Travis stno that is a good pitch look where that pitch ends up two seam fastball with movement coming in hard on those hands and he’s pulling his hands in and getting enough barel on it to drive the run in that’s a guy who’s been around for over a decade and knows what he’s doing in that situation here is Orlando Aria Orlando Aria cranks this to left or see you later 4 to one Atlanta how nice was this for Orlando and how about another sweeper pretty much the same pitch that Marcel Ozuna hit out and this one a no doubter just kind of backing up and sitting inner third there for Orlando it had been a while since we had seen him go deep of course he had a huge year last year first Homer since June 4th top of the eighth inning Orlando R the nine hitter for the Braves coming up against Logan Gillespie right-hander making his third appearance for the padr to the right side and that’ll get over the head of cronenworth so Logan Gillespie coming into the game out of the bullpen after Matt Waldren goes seven full Innings and Orlando able to single off of it and away here in the eighth inning Azie Albe’s coming up Azie gets into this to right field it is over the head of Peralta bouncing up against the wall Azie sprinting into second and Orlando into third Braves in business here for some possible Insurance Austin Riley coming up next for Atlanta Riley lifts it to right field Peralta backpedaling will take it but it will produce a run arcia comes home 5 to one bravs such a good atat here from Austin rally I think he’s well aware of the plan as well it doesn’t mean you can’t offer a pitches that are around the Zone even if they’re off the plate and this one was but he still drove it to right field to get another run in Atlanta will look to add on against a new relever inel Deo Santos that’s kind of interesting with him good strikeouts however 10 home runs in 36 in the third Innings he’s averaging a home run basically every four games he hasn’t let up one in five games so buckle up well if you’re giving up homers probably not the guy you want to face here and the big bear who had another one back in the fifth arcelo zuda to right center field a two hover up for the Big Bear another big fly give him now 26 before the allstar break and what did you say about do Los Santos andom he do he hadn’t given one up in five games this is impressive from Marcel 97 mph on the fast B and he goes to the opposite field Gap he can hit fast balls anywhere we were talking about him and some of the lowball stuff that he has done this year that one is elevated so it’s going to get you get on you pretty quick I don’t know what more you can say about the first half that that man has had so a two- out base hit brings us to Jackson Merill Atlanta looking to get to 52 and 41 on the season the one-w from Lee struck him out Braves win the series opener goes the way of Atlanta 6 to one three homers two of them by Ozuna one by Garcia and the Braves get the victory

  1. Notes From the Game:

+ SPENCER SCHWELLENBACH WITH ANOTHER MASTERPIECE! 7 Innings of 1-Run, 3-Hit Ball, Walking 1 and Striking Out 3 on Just 94 Pitches! Schwellenbach improves to 3-4 with an ERA of 4.43! A Week Ago, Braves Country (Including Myself) were ANTICIPATING to BANISH Him back to the AA-Mississippi for the REST OF THE YEAR: Now? HE'S EARNING HIS SHOTS!

+ Jimenez and Lee took care of the rest, though not without SOME Diciness. Two Innings of 2-Hit Ball, Recording 3 Strike Outs along the way. Could've been better, but also could've been worse.

ROTATION TOTAL: 9 Innings, 1 Run, 5 Hits, 1 Walk, 6 Strike Outs, NO Home Runs Allowed!

Despite having VERY FEW Scoring Opportunities, the Braves Offense Took the Fight to Waldren with the POWER OF THE SUPER MISSILE!

+ THE BIG BEAR WITH A BIG NIGHT! 2-4 with TWO SOLO SUPER MISSILES! Ozuna Steps Up to a .301 Average, .961 OPS, and 26 Home Runs on the Season!

+ d'Arnaud Continues to find ways to CONTRIBUTE! 1-4 with the GAME-DECISIVE RBI SINGLE in the 5th! Travis Stands firm with a .239 Average and .728 OPS!

+ ARCIA WITH THE DAGGER! 2-3 with a Single in the 8th and a TWO-RUN SUPER MISSILE in the 5th! Arcia Improves to a .212 Average, .584 OPS, and 7 Home Runs on the Year! He's Been SCORNED a lot lately, but this should put his naysayers away for at LEAST ONE NIGHT!

+ * Tough Night for Riley, but he did CONTRIBUTE!* 0-2 with a Walk in the 4th and a Sacrifice Fly in the 8th! Riley holds onto a .261 Average with an OPS of .792!

+ OTHER NOTABLES: Adam Duvall had a 2-4 Night, While Albies and Rosario Notched 1 Hit. Riley was the ONLY Brave to earn a Walk, meaning Kelenic and Olson Both had 0-4 Nights.

+ THAT'S MORE LIKE IT! After being EMBARASSINGLY SHUTOUT the Previous Night in Arizona, The Braves' Bats came to life and MADE SURE IT WOULD NOT BE REPEATED! Schwellenbach was FANTASTIC, the Bullpen was GOOD, and the Defense MINIMIZED Mistakes! The Result? A WIN THAT WAS DESPARATELY NEEDED TO STOP THE BLEEDING!

+ Good News: The Phillies LOST to the Oakland A's! ROFL! Bad News: The Mets REFUSED to Met again, Surviving a 4-Run Comeback from the Rockies. This allows the Braves to GET BACK to within 8 1/2 Games of Philly, while keeping the Mets Behind by Only 4 Games.

    TOMORROW:

ROUND 2 OF 3 Between the Braves and Padres will take place under the Afternoon Skies of Petco Park. Dylan Cease will take the Rubber for the Padres, who's coming off an Unfortunate Loss of his own against the Diamondbacks, in which he allowed 3 Runs on 5 Hits, Including Two Home Runs, while Walking Only 1 and Striking Out 8.

Meanwhile, REYNALDO LOPEZ will take up Battle Stations for the Braves, looking to ADD Another Notch on his NL Cy Young Campaign. Lopez is coming off a FANTASTIC Outing against OUR DIVISIONAL NEMESIS, SILENCING THEM for 6 Innings while allowing just 2 Hits and 3 Walks while Striking Out 6!

Can LOPEZ and the Braves Secure a NEEDED Series Win over the Friars?

Or will Cease and the Padres have a method of Ceasing the Tomahawk Chop's Momentum?

We Will Find Out at 7:15 P.M. EDT / 4:15 P.M. PDT, EXCLUSIVELY ON FOX (National)!

    SoundFX09, Signing Out!

  2. Was at the game tonight, and what a win. Team effort wins games!

Also, I have only been to 3(including tonight) and this was my first time seeing the Braves win in person since June 4th, 1991, the game Dale Murphy returned as a Phillie.

  3. The bunt by Rosario was probably the most impressive highlight. I can remember when the bunt was a BIG part of certain player's arsenal (Otis Nixon, Vince Coleman etc). Obviously that was years ago. I am not comparing Eddie to either one of those players but it was still nice to see it used to advance the runner.
