wall Center sales wall center.com mat Carris with Blake price gry sass hit and switches conducting things Big Show coming up and we’ll start with our poll question and I got to say the flow of this summer has been perfect beautiful in what sense well in the sense that we got through the Stanley Cup playoffs and the NBA Playoffs of course the draft and free agency hit immediately but you know you had the euro to carry you through you had the Copa to carry you through and uh now we’re on the verge of the Paris Olympics so from soccer into basketball or into women’s soccer as the Paris Olympics goes yeah but we’re asking about men’s programs today which Canadian men’s national team has a brighter future basketball soccer vote S carison price on x.com or on YouTube funny thing is I think it was more than a decade ago now partner we asked the poll question sport with the brightest can sport with the brightest future we had basketball there we had soccer there we had tennis we had tennis because you remember that was the era of jeie buard and Milo shic and then some of the others CH were Rising Bianca Leila came out of nowhere and incidentally Gabby darowski is in another Wimbledon doubles final so good for her and big expectations on the tennis teams particularly the women’s T tennis team in Paris and we had golf there too because we had seen the rise of the abbottsford boys ABN and Taylor but also of course Brook yeah Brook Brooke Cory Connor McKenzie Hughes Siri Adam Fenson well we’ve wiow down here to basketball and soccer because of course the big team sports going on this summer with Canada in the third place match at the Copa and the men’s Olympic basketball team which is the second choice at the Paris Olympics 10 NBA players 24 Canadians in the NBA now huh like we could field we could Feld this Flor floor two full 12 player squats if they were all participate where you going on your vote um it’s so hard because uh basketball has some has Sizzle right like basketball basketball is Showtime I know the Lakers are Showtime but basketball is Showtime in North America it has uh it punches way above its weight class considering um it’s got small rosters so then just the sheer number of stars should be more limited and it’s not the Their Stars really shine brightly so if if Canada were to have a couple of true stars that can carry a program that can carry the popularity and the success and yet the World sport is soccer um which is good and bad if you if you make it you’re huge but there’s so much competition is the problem so uh with all that in mind I’ll say basketball yep I’ll say basketball because the chances of us breaking through are better on the global stage with basketball than with soccer I agree I voted basketball as well um for starters basketball could still play for a gold medal this summer best soccer is going to do is third it is a shallower pool in international basketball that is for certain although I would argue at this given minute and look Argentina is Sensational uh Spain is fantastic as well England’s darn good France there’s a number of others I would argue though that the toughest team to beat of all of them would be the US basketball team still yeah I mean that is the best rep team in the world it is harder to make the USA men’s basketball team than it would be to make just about any team the world uh the level you have to get to to make that team yeah that team’s deeper than Argentina the number one soccer te un questionably unest or Spain who whomever is number one remember when Belgium was number one the other thing that I would argue is you were talking about play so Shay gilis Alexander and Jamal Murray is the best back court in the world and if there were to be one other Canadian to step up at not even that level but most two and maybe that’s mathine in Indiana once he gets healthy maybe that’s Shaden sharp in Portland once he uh gets a little older but right now I would give the Canadian team a fighting chance against that us team and with one other you know Jamal Murray or close to level player then it gets really interesting yeah uh soccer needs several more players I think it’s fair to say and you know it’s nothing against soccer it’s just 11 players on the pitch and you need most of them to be world class if you’re going to start winning Copus or going deep into World World Cups the other thing I’d argue is Shay gilas Alexander better in his sport than Alfonso Davies isn’t his close uh I know Alfonso at his best would be considered either the best left back in the world the second best left back in the world the problem there is it’s left back that’s the problem Shane gilas Alexander plays point guard he is the guy who stirs the drink he is the guy who’s going to score on his own and set up teammates and allow them to score so it’s at a more critical position where we have our best player in basketball well that would be the debate of what to do with Alonso Davies going forward if you’re Jesse Marsh is and that’s a big debate Blake is do you play him out of position from where he is for 11 and a half months of the year um and you could make the argument that yes you do given the stakes given where Canada is in the pecking order do you make him I don’t know do you make him a number 10 like do you even put him in the middle never mind never mind you put him up the pitch do you really get crazy and put him in the middle somehow just because of now here’s my problem with with even something so radical as that look at him on the dribble in this tournament when he’s tried to go one-on-one in Copa it wasn’t successful he wasn’t very good at it his pace down the wing is where he’s at his best so I I don’t think I’m ready to get totally crazy by moving him into the middle but moving him up the pitch making him a Winger rather than a left back yeah I could I could be convinced of that it’s an I’m glad I’m not making the call and of course the player is gonna have some say too right like you don’t have a player of Alfonso stature and not consult him and just you know put him where you where you want as the head coach uh I thought he was really pey in the first half since Argentina I thought he might be sitting on a goal I understand why he plays left back for a clubs side like Byron yeah I understand why you would want to move him further up the pitch from a Canadian point of view I I also wonder though whether this is now the challenge for Canadian soccer go find yourself some Wingers midfielders that you feel good enough about that you can leave Alfonso at his natural position or the position he plays professionally Club level and see if that’s the best way to organize the chess faces but this is the de this is the end of the weeds and soccer but all formation matters right so if you play 352 and have him as a wing back uh in a 352 well then he’s up the pitch a lot more than he is in a in a four back system where he’s a left back you know so you know those little sort of tweaks is where you sort of find the neutral ground of he’s not quite a Winger but he’s not a left back either gonna get back to soccer here in a moment but first let’s get to some Vancouver conu because we had sarelli on the show on Wednesday and he talked about how he thought there was still an outside chance of a Canucks trade coming this summer you’ve long talked about this that you don’t think this was splashy enough from an offseason point of view for Rutherford and Alvine particularly the way Alvine was speaking at the end of the year in that you know Gauntlet dropped press conference about having achieved nothing yet and got to get to that Elite level and with all due respect to Jake debrusk and Danton Heinen and kefir Sherwood the two defensemen was the addition of that um quintet good enough that you think it gets you to the elite level and I think the object jective impartial impartial observer looks at it and particularly with the subtraction of zador off and lyol and says no no not quite good enough we’ve talked about the scoring Wingers that are still out there on the trade block Blake Martin aess and Carolina Mitch mner and Tron Nikolai aers and Winnipeg Trevor zis and Anaheim and of course once he gets out of the uh NHL PA NHL player assistance program Patrick l at this stage of the game most of the cap dollars are committed you would have to move money out to be in the ball game for any of these guys that’s Conor Garland right if you’re making a move with any of those guys I was having this conversation with Grady off the air I was like you know as much as I do believe what I’m saying when I say that that a bigger Splash is coming what is the piece that gives you the cap space to make the Splash and it’s one of two uncomfortable convers it’s it’s with a guy who’s who’s just been a Survivor here in Conor Garland and surviving expectation and and being attached to the trade and and all that so it’s him or it’s even more uncomfortable conversation as Brock besser yeah although in the case of besser it’s you know you’re trying to get better at that position yep you know so if it’s incrementally better with a one in one I’m not sure that’s enough right and and and upgrading on Conor Garland i’llbe it Conor Garland is a nice player and you have them on your team you can upgrade on Connor Garland right so you’re talking Garland maybe you’re talking hoglander that would be sugar that wouldn’t be the primary piece no no um and Ness of course you’re looking at 7 plus Million Dollar on a contract extension there yeah marner’s at 10 damn near 11 um but of course maybe there’s a possibility of Leafs retaining because it would only be one more one more year there he’s UFA after this year but of course that also impacts what you’re going to give up for him AER same deal it’s just one more year on his contract unless you’re looking at an extension Beyond this season but for the moment it would be the one-year deal he’s at six million so like Garland for aers Works Capal Marner other things would have to transpire NES probably other things would have to transpire from cap point of view zis also works cap wise uh with Garland but is Trevor zis really a Rick toet Player although frankly I think you can ask that question of all these forwards Blake I’m not sure I look at any one of these guys and think them oh yeah that’s a rick tett Style hockey player that said you know and I think toet you know Tak was very honest about this at his yearend pressor that he has to in some cases go back to the the drawing board at the very least take a look into what he does how he coaches it and whether or not he needs to allow for a little bit more creativity and freedom for his offensively inclined players not to mention generate more chances off the rush rush play with a little more Pace get more shots make sure they’re quality shots but make sure that you’re not uh being uh outshot as much as the Vancouver con were being outshot at different points the other in a possible Splash trade by the way mhm for a younger player only is Jonathan lrck well see and he could very well be the solution to what we’re talking about here it’s just unlikely to happen this coming year yeah so um not to mention but for he may have to be a brock besser replacement after this season if you can’t get together on a extension with Bess I’m not including Jonathan leer Macky trade for Nick eers but I might for Martin ESS you get young enough yeah I’m not doing I’m not I’m not doing I’m not doing Garland and lecr macki for NS I’d look at Garland and a future first for NS though when Carolina said the reports were that they preferred picks for NHS yeah because they trust their own amateur Scouts and want those guys making the selections now they those same amateur Scouts may look at and said oh yeah that lecki kid that was somebody we had so you know it’s tougher to know it’s a general swipe at it saying they prefer prospects but if they get the right Pro uh they prefer picks but if they get the right Prospect thr of them they they might be okay with that um the thing about um uh so Mar and erss of course be the one your deals and then you have to hit the contract NS you do you would presumably have more Club control because you’d be resigning him as an RFA I am a little surprised that none of these guys have moved yet I thought we were looking at a window there between the draft in the early parts of free agency where if one of you know if these guys weren’t traded at the draft or in and around the draft they would be traded in the aftermath of free agency after some teams discovered um while we didn’t get our guy now look we’re only 11 days from pre agency so that could still be that could still be taking place and and and frankly Blake maybe some of these guys get traded for each other and in the case of eler and the Winnipeg Jets they also have recor mcgi there as well right the first round draft pick American forward who doesn’t want to play for them so that could be a bigger trade when it comes to Winnipeg the other thing we talked about with sarahi is and Patrick Johnson yesterday more prominent Archer she loves still awaiting a contract still an RFA could be a poison pill offer sheet there from another team who looks at it and goes oh Vancouver doesn’t have a ton of cap space let’s go out um with the signing of Yuri petera not bringing Casey Des Smith back and not adding that pure NHL backup Peta is more a third organizational goalie a guy you can call on to play NHL games but you would prefer if he’s not your your backup I think the die is cast here that she loves is going to be the NHL backup uh nobody seems to think within kuu Sports entertainment right now that thatr dempo is going to have any trouble in the long summer recovering for what ailed him the knee injury in the playoffs against Nashville but I also think you have to look at it from the standpoint now because thater has been injured as often as he has been injured in his NHL career that you need a most reliable guy who can not only play games but play a series of games in a row and remember Casey desmith was darn good for the Vancouver kugs then when Demco went down late in the season and he had to play game six or seven or eight or nine in a row whatever it was that’s when we started to see a little bit of fade in his performance she loves has showed you he can do that in a in a playoff series so I think you got to feel good about that so are we at the 54 uh 27 game split starter backup do you think that’s wise do you think that’s yeah something that Ian Clark and Rick toet would be looking at going into this year I mean given what you just saw happen because you know that’s always a risk we talked about it even last season oh got to have Demco healthy for the playoffs well he wasn’t so it’s no longer uh just a worry it’s an actual thing you know and so I think they’re going to be more sensitive to it than they’ve ever been before because it’s not a theoretical anymore it happened to them good point they should be scared about it good point yep um I mean it wound up not hurting them all that much because the Smith and shoves played pretty darn well in the playoffs but I hear what you’re saying you don’t want to you don’t want to keep going there you it didn’t hurt them in that you can’t point to it and say that was clearly their undoing but you also don’t know what the universe looks like when Demo’s in you don’t know if Demco is standing on his head to the fact that they win the series in six you know you just you just don’t know what the universe looks like even so it wasn’t their undoing but they still might have been in a different spot if he was there yep don’t know um the other thing we talked about with PJ yesterday Tucker Pullman one more year on this contract $2.5 million um you can account for it with ltir long-term injured reserve Patrick Alvine said he’d really like to get out of ltir because once you get into ltir it’s Dollar in dollar out uh almost no ch’s playing again there are trickier machinations with LTR than just a he’s injured so you’ve got that space right right yeah it’s it’s not so simple like don’t get us wrong if you can set your opening night lineup with a guy who you’re then and get close to the cap limited and of course last year the Vancouver Canucks had the immaculate roster right since and and our buddy Hart LaVine at pedia uh and the former now Folks at cap friendly you know both noted we’ve been waiting for this day the Vancouver Canucks hit it to the dollar and were able to take the entirety of Tucker Pullman’s $2.5 million put it on ltir and then exceed the cap by that $2.5 million and I don’t know you know they got some smart guys there at connect sports entertainment on the cap side of things maybe they’re able to do smart l as well maybe they’re able to get it done uh if you’re a team that drives good Revenue doesn’t sweat expenditures on players and that is the Vancouver Canucks and give the aqualin credit for that they have spent on the product on the player Personnel side of things then yeah that means the moment the puck drops you’ve got an extra $2 and a half million dollars of space which is can be very useful this was the aim back in the Gillis St we are going to exploit that ltir as much as possible because we’re a b big Revenue club that can do it and others can’t thus it’s a competitive Advantage it has now been taken to the next level uh to an art form to a science to a dark art form perhaps by the Vegas gold Knights Tampa Bay Lightning who have found ways to erate an additional $18 million in cap $20 million in cap space by having guys on but there were further gymnastics down the road when somebody goes on injured reserve and you got to try and call somebody up and you can’t do that or heaven forbid the player is about to return from injury and you have to account for his massive salary right so again machinations that if you didn’t have LT guys that just are way easier so to trade Tucker Pullman’s contract would be helpful a third round pick was that it it’s going to cost you a third round pick to make the two and a half million go away I would do that in a New York minute yeah I would do that for sure for that for that ease uh we should get to the news of the day for the kaks please um is it our top story our top story of the day brought to you by a yellow dog neighborhood yellow dog spirits and what a perfect Kismet it is that they are sponsoring our top story of the day because we could be spending more time up there than we anticipated training camp 20242 has been announced for the Vancouver KS and it finds itself in the fine city of Penticton British Columbia what after young Stars yep it’s 2020 2010 Redux young Stars rolling right into main training camp all in the heart of the okaga there Penticton British Columbia including a Blue White scrimmage game on Sunday open scri open practices for the public throughout the course of the week and weekend it’s not a week you know it’s a few days but uh Gone are the days of weeks long training cam it’s a few days it’s actually a lot less than you might think but nevertheless are you telling me from Young Stars till the 22 there we’re be am I going to be drinking all those not you no no Penton can’t handle Grady sass for this amount of time but for you die hards uh it uh might be worthwhile getting on Airbnb now uh and booking your spot here because can you get on that for us yes indeed I thought I was gonna have a week with all those nice grape freeze yellow dog Spirits we could do some shows from there you can have a weekend of that you can have a weekend R record a couple shows you know you get a weekend to that all on Matt to car’s no no no see he knows my rule that we’re uh when we’re out in the wild producers don’t pay so he’s looking to exploit that oh you know last year I took him couple rounds of golf you know last year I took him golfing paid for dinner paid for all the drinks we had and then still gave him some PDM to finish off the weekend you did that mean I did too yes well kind of you were paying a pum above our pum no no no no the custom Grady per DM rate yeah my goodness gr gr’s got a big appetite anyways the South hoken aen Event Center which is the home of the BC Hockey Hall of Fame and in fact a week from tonight the BC Hockey Hall of Fame induction Gala uh is an extraordinary facility I mean it is just one of the best facilities in the province uh it’s an awesome spot to watch the game check out the neighborhood corner there where we’ve watched young Stars the last couple of years yeah done shows there and I I almost wonder if training camp is a bit of a give from them of we’re not bringing many people to Young stars like like the cans aren’t really going to be pulling their own weight in terms of a marquee team at youngstar I mean I’ll have lecki but not wander right yeah do we know lecki is attending well one would suspect yeah you think one would suspect he’s gotta be but he’s gonna be a main Camp so yeah but he’s not play I mean he’s barely touched North American ice so I would think so I mean I certainly don’t think that’s uh insulting to the young man do you think it’s insult no we”ve se I mean this tournament so come on no no it has nothing to do with that it has everything to do with age and expectations and uh stretching the player out this is a player that has never played a CHL schedule like Conor McDavid did and to try and stretch him out immediately into an AHL season maybe a few NHL games um the NHL training camp and Prospect I mean that’s a lot like that you’re you’re asking him to play a lot of hockey go dominate young Stars kid let’s see it see that shot yeah it’s a lot why not though no I’m I’m just saying mean he doesn’t have to play every game we’ll see we’ll see he’s chatty today huh yeah this one he Friday he’s excited and there’s grape freezies in the uh right dog Spirits Locker here that behind me so that’s why he’s excited I think so before he drinks them up in uh pen tikton he’ll be ready for it uh you can grab one of the beautiful mix packs they’ve got for you for this summer two delicious refreshing mix Backs from yellow dog Spirits uh there’s the high there hard iced tea mix pack lemon peach raspberry love those and there’s gr Grady’s freezy vodka soda mix packs purple blue and a white freezy lots of options and for and for the record it was out of pocket Canada nothing to lose it’s your own fault like why why he’s got perdm you don’t need to pay for him you’ve seen his appetite voracious Canada with nothing to lose tomorrow against Uruguay uh we’ll show the graphic on the screen here is the text might be a little small so here’s the stakes a win in the third place match of the Copa against Uruguay would Canada from 43 in the FIFA world rankings up to 33 if they won in regulation time it would move Canada up to 36 if it wins in a shootout a loss on penalties also means gained ground sure up to 41 from 43 and a loss in regulation status quo yeah no lose they would stay it for so it is an absolute no lose proposition for Jesse Mar and the Canadian team and Blake I am telling you now if I see like the MLS side dress tomorrow I will be furious on Monday you play to not to go Herm Edwards but you play to win this game this would be amongst the biggest achievement in the history of the Canadian men’s program I know they won a Gold Cup they got into those quarterfinals via a coin toss full value for what they did after winning the coin toss but they were lucky to be there pure luck this was earned to get to this third place game this is a terrific soccer playing Nation with some Global Stars you play to win this one you lean on all your big dogs if foni needs to go 120 Minutes fony should go 120 Minutes tomorrow okay I I’m not for any kind of laydown here I if there’s something we talked about experimenting up top because it hasn’t worked if there’s going to be some experimentation if there’s going to be some things tomorrow about looking forward and what’s best for the club going forward into the next cycle and of course into the FIFA World Cup 2026 where they’ll play two games here in Vancouver at BC Place fair enough but let it be let it derive from things that haven’t gone well with this group and 11 and changes that you would make competitively irrespective of the sakes not because you’re conceding anything I don’t want to see any kind of conceding I don’t want to con I don’t want to see any kind of defeatism to more from Jesse Marsh and this Canadian side well we’re like l to a third place game in global hockey why is why you so worried about this because I see he wants to try Luke defu Ro at left back the 18-year-old from Fulham which hey he plays at a big English Club if if if you think that playing him at left back and playing foni up the wing gives you a better chance to beat Uruguay I’m all in coach you’re the expert but please don’t tell me you’re playing Luke def fusa at left back because Fon is not gonna play it’s not a big enough game oh bayern’s a you know we gota we we’ve got to concern ourself with what Byron thinks of the no no no no no I I that doesn’t happen with other National sides and other great players they let it be known my country very important I’m gonna give it my all I want to see the same to he’s a Defender he’s not a left back so when he said left back I think he means left Center back so I think that means he’s played left back and he’s played center back defuser roll so but he’s a Defender like he’s he would come in for Derek Cornelius I think is where he would come in for he’s not coming in for so then my question would be are you further Ahad with the fuol over Cornelius you are no further behind okay and that’s the that’s the level I’m willing to accept Blake I just don’t want him to put a weaker player out there or do some sort of experimentation formation wise because you’re a big Underdog here you need all your best guys going we want to win the match let’s see what it looks like I mean ishma k looked like an inferior player when he started the tournament he looked like a world beater last time out and that’s a guy who’s gonna be playing for Marse this year so um we’ll see I I’ll I’ll be outraged if I see it until then I just don’t like the vibe I’m getting out of the camp there Blake just because of the if you didn’t see the Luke to fusure R decision no it wasn’t just that I I just I already hear the soccer journalists in this country like and the apologists the apologizing has started well truthfully there’s only like who has emphatically earned their position in the starting 11 in this tournament throughout the tournament Davies usako kpo yep Johnson yep those are the only players that have emphatically earned their position I understand that Blake but the other thing that I’m saying is Jonathan David has to play I disagree and and no because On Any Given Daye he’s the worst player on the pitch last G worst player on the pitch and he hasn’t scored he hasn’t scored a goal of consequence for this team in God knows how long like it’s time to find the next one you know when an NHL play uh coach benches a a star player or healthy scratches a star player this one is the first to say well great message sending coach but you know what you’ve done you’ve weakened your team’s ability to win that game because you’re not playing your best players Jonathan David is amongst their best 11 players no he has not looked good but the likelihood of you finding a striker that is better than Jonathan David over the next two years is no I disagree wholeheartedly I disagree okay who is it then Blake really that person would almost already be announced would have already announced their arrival somewhere cana’s goals per 60 goals per 90 in MLS is only trumped by lonel Messi so here’s what I’m saying if you think he’s better than David gives you a better chance to win fair enough David’s coming in as a substitute right yeah or you start play both together or you play David as a 10 I said the other day Len and David have not worked together that much is clear now you can sit there and go the problem is Jonathan David fair enough but David is the better player we all know this but David is not a playing as a proper Striker right now if you want to slide him underneath Olo as a 10 and feeding the striker fine but that’s a that’s a that’s a change in formation or change in deployment rather than just running it back and expecting things to change with Jonathan David okay so again let’s just see what he rolls out and we can critique it on Monday I’m telling you now though I’ll be furious if aonso isn’t in the starting 11 I don’t think he’s the captain he’s not not playing the captain okay I’ll be furious if Alonso Davies is taken off shortly after halftime well if you’re down two buzz in the 60th minute I’m okay at that point okay if you’re down too Buzz sure enough but game up a goal no down a goal Fon you’re playing the whole 120 if that’s what we need and you’re taking a penalty so it is 11 Uruguayan players that are being looked at for their participation in that awful scene in the stands in Charlotte with the Colombian fans uh expecting 11 players that will be sanctioned in some way by con maal that’s the South American soccer Federation that runs this tournament uh unlikely it’s going to happen before the third place match tomorrow we talked about that per the FIFA guidelines if a player engages in a physical altercation with the fan they can face a minimum suspension of several matches the length of the suspension and the financial penalties depend on the severity of the incident and the evidence provided so as we discussed yesterday FIFA like just about other every other sports League the world over out there draws a firm Red Line when it comes to physical altercations with fans that all said you were telling me that con maal has had these incidents before just a few months ago Brazil and Argentina and Argentinian players had to to come to the rescue as well and they again folks we’re talking about a very different um culture culture and and and uh and level of of violence here where I think the conference just kind of looks at a player intervening on behalf of his family and goes we get it and again the devil’s in the details yeah if the intervention was go into the stands grab your wife and child bring them to safety on the pitch or somewhere else I don’t think anyone have a problem with that some of these ugu players moved forward and through punches at fans and that is a that is a separate and uh I would argue more serious act that conball FIFA have to look at and say we can’t have players we can’t have players saring punches as fance it’s just that simple I understand there’s context but that’s got to be black and white for us like it is for most every other league in the world these players aren’t former members of SEAL Team Six their extraction of their family is not going to be precise and and uh and quiet if they’re being attacked in that moment um I think you would then say the expectation is that you’re going to keep our family safe well and and this is what they complained about and and perhaps rightfully so but again some of them went in the crowd and then we’re looking to climb rows and throw punches at fans that is no longer defensive posture I’m going to bet that was out of frustration of the game you just lost and that’s something you can’t stand for if you’re FIFA or com ball I I think what we’ve always expected out of fans is or out of players is you’ve got to turn a blind eye to when a fan is razing you when a fan is telling you hey a hey Johnson you’re a piece of [ __ ] yeah well you just turned you can’t do anything about it you’re you don’t react to that or flip it and you know flip it sterilize it have some fun with it sure yeah David Benfield our old friend David Benfield used to love the repar between the fans behind the bench when he was playing for the Lions or other CFL teams and of course he made his way around the league so he knew a lot he used to love going back and forth and the angrier the fans got the more David and he’s a quick wit if you know him would turn it on his ear have some fun with it you know mock cry all those sorts of things sterilize it neutralize it if you’re gonna respond it’s got to be in good fun but but that that was always the thing is you can’t react to them trying to go you but the minute you the fans the minute the fans are attacking your friends and family to me it’s a different set of rules yeah it’s a different set of rules and and they’re trying to and this is where we disagree because you know I am all for protecting your family uh but going forward and looking to punch fans that’s no longer protecting your family but when you’re getting punched trying to to protect them you’re not going to turn around and punch the guy that just punched you uh I would have to look at the video again uh what I saw was a ugan player throwing a punch and then a Colombian fan throwing a punch back yeah I mean you need the full run up of of the events and I’m not saying that none of them didn’t cross but I’m I’m just imagining as I’m trying to extract them M and I’m getting punched in the back of the head I’m probably going to I’m probably going to turn around and swing at the guy that just punch me like like you gotta put yourself in that position no I I understand I mean there’s instincts that are involved there right there’s adrenaline there’s a lot of things going on yeah uh you know be because it’s not it’s for the player safety as well CU here’s the thing you’re vastly outnumbered you’re vastly outnumbered as a soccer team when you go into well also you’ve created a new Target like they they would they would love to get a lick on Darwin n are you not absolutely yeah you put a bullseye on all your other teammates when you do that so it is a extremely dangerous situation and while it may not be the fairest mitigation of it in terms of Justice I suspect some of these were going players are going to face these suspensions that are talked about in the FIFA guidelines for this mat I me I think I think the fix is just so easy that they are in a more fortified spot going forward where they just are not accessible by the shame on tournament organizers that they didn’t have that especially if there was a recent event Blake with South American teams shame on tournament organizers I wonder and the stadium Ops folks there in Charlotte that they didn’t have a greater presence there to keep those fans away from those ugu I wonder if there’s a naive of this is in the United States that won’t happen here just because it’s not in those countries but violence happens different attitude violence happens there’s one lesson we’ve learned about our friends to the South is that violence happens in that country yeah far too often so really great news for Canucks fans when it comes to the Gap with the Edmonton Oilers learned something yesterday legendary o Edmonton Sports columnist Terry Jones quote tweeting a photo of LeAndre ridle engaging to his uh well now fiance if you go by punch imlac the Oilers are in trouble this coming season punch used to say players generally played poorly their first year after getting married McDavid and dry cidal punch and lack finished coaching in 1980 with the Buffalo Sabers I can’t believe he went that long yeah won four cups with the Leafs in the 60s um you know I would attitudes have changed I think I think so yeah think so who moved on past the old ball and chain like that’s effectively what he’s saying oh once you get the old ball in chain you’re gonna be terrible Blake you remember Jack Nicholas way back in the day I think tiger would do well to settle down and get married he did that then what happened Jack yeah it’s the opposite the opposite bit of advice something tells me Tiger’s game would have been okay with her without her the rest of Tiger’s personal life might have been a little tiger without her too you should have gone just full Waffle House all the time I uh I have uh become familiar with some professional athletes I’ve covered over the years who have um made the decision that marriage is going to be something I do after my career for a variety of reasons some reasons professional some reasons recreational I don’t know but just avoiding if you’re not done with your Wild Oats you probably shouldn’t get married there uh there are a lot of jobs in which it’s hard to live the normal domestic life that Society has put the boundaries up for the stencil up for it’s being a professional a is one of them but I don’t know that it precludes you from being able to perform Oilers also on blast at the esps last night comedian Nicki Glazer and boy is she funny must be tough losing a game of icea to a place with no ice the Florida Panthers camera zooms to avander Kane he didn’t laugh much come on avaner I mean it’s not even like it’s just a joke into to the point where of course there are Canadians on the Florida Panthers it’s not a bunch of Floridians who grew up in Florida with no alley it’s a nonsensical joke exactly yeah so just yeah have fun with it roll with it exactly the big first place Showdown tomorrow at BC Place the 4-1 Riders and the 4 and0 Saskatchewan Rough Riders the battle to be number one in the west and of course s saskatchwan is the only undefeated in the Canadian Football League now after the Montreal aletes lose that home on Thursday night to the Toronto Argonauts I believe Less in the Riders than I did in the alow so this this should time to take down the Riders we have talked about the way the CFL has organized its schedule this summer with games Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday one game a piece every day uh in fact I think the buy start next week or a shorter schedule starts next week or the week after at some point here they go to Just Friday Saturday Sunday those Thursday night games much like the arean games in the NFL those aren’t great when it comes to player health and safety they wreak some Havoc yeah uh the alliance have had four short weeks here and wow what the aletes faced yesterday they were missing a couple of defensive starters and a receiver starter as well going into the game I’ve never heard this in my 25 years covering football but both the kicker and the Snapper got hurt in warmup they had to go to the backup kicker and the backup Snapper and their kicking operation was still perfect so you know hats off to the backups there then in game they lost their quarterback Cody Fardo their defensive captain Canadian starting safety dcoy decoy dequa uh and a starting lineer Canadian linebacker that’s an awful lot we were talking earli this week about how boy Montreal scat and BC play healthy and it’s going to be tough but you know keep up some semblance of this pace we could have some really good looking playoff games in great in a grup game here at BC place so uh we’ll see how the owls emerge but they lose their first game which means BC wins this game Blake I think they’re top the CFL Power Rankings right yeah they’d have to be they’d have to be by by the way the Thursday nighters stick around uh right through till the end of August oh really next week is a little blip for some reason but they so no Thursday night or next week and then back to Thursday nighters the week after right through to August 22nd I knew there was yeah I knew there was a week where they didn’t have a Thursday night game so uh tomorrow at BC Place Terry Fox Plaza it’s a bar melon smash which has become tradition here when the Riders G down expecting more than 30,000 at this game everybody free mullets on the Plaza do you want to lean in oh they’re they’re not like wigs they’re they’re D providing haircuts they will cut your hair into a mullet for free but only a mullet do you what you’re going to cut here not here yeah maybe in the green going to sweep after me no do BU death heav snow it’d be fun to cat somebody maybe Grady could pay for some with all that prum shaved my own head in the pandemic that was fun uh Josh Banks and the global Debo uh tibo debay are out of this game we had talked about how there were some injuries there at defensive tackle Jonah Tay Marcus Moore will start Christian cumington lists as a backup Javon CTO is a game time decision at slotback the big Canadian and I uh uh we uh have had a very good relationship with at CFL news which is a CFL news aggregator over the years often listen to our program often pick up on our CFL and lions interviews and and distribute them uh I love the Tweet Jordan mimck has been the BC Li’s offensive coordinator for both Nathan R when he set CFL on fire and now was ALS and now VA who is also setting the CFL on fire time for some recognition absolutely yeah we talked about the Lions offensive coordinator has been magnificent this year uh alongside this great collection of talent va’s got to the next level you know they lose receivers next guy up they had a bad day on the offensive line against Toronto in the opener and they have fixed that as well well seems a little off to Mi more than coincidental that they go back toback with these quarterbacks that hey people like Nathan Rock they didn’t think he would do what he did hey people liked Vernon Adams they didn’t think Vernon Adams was capable of this and so there there’s probably another a different reason why this is happening by oh Nathan R just happened to Blossom like this Vernon ad just tapen a blossom like that so that’s a great shut out yeah look and I’m sure Jordan would say hey the players play coaches Coach credit to them and that’s true to the fair but no exactly when when you when you see it and you see it laid out as we have seen it laid out as as Blake just outlined that’s there is some credit there coaching wise um you know we’re week six no one’s taking any bows but this has been a terrific coaching staff for the because last year we were shouting the praise of Ryan Phillips as defensive coordinator right yeah and the group and the job that that group was doing and look still uh that’s still a stout defense but the offense has sha this year with mimck at the controls or or uh uh VA at the controls and of course mimck making the calls let’s get to today’s menu it’s brought to you by Greta Greta great spot to catch the game throughout the season or on the weekend as the case may be um picked Canada yesterday love the odds there long odds you don’t know maybe those ugu players are still shook from what happened with their families against Colombia maybe they’re distracted what did you have it yesterday 585 I believe it’s gone down a little 500 I’d like the England Spain tie at plus 180 so requiring extra time but I still love taking CFL points I’m going Calgary plus seven tonight Winnipeg Ottawa plus three and a half Sunday and Edmonton I’m going Canada Uruguay but I’m going to take the tie there plus three 20 because Canada’s goal score I think it could be nil nil maybe 1-1 after 90 minutes straight to penalties at plus 320 look I haven’t watched a ton of them over the tournament but I watched the Columbia match saw second half of a match earlier in the tournament I forget the opponent um Suarez doesn’t quite have the finishing touch that he used to huh no like there were ample opportunities to tie the game against Columbia yeah yeah I mean I you know what to me I’ve seen this across Euro and Copa uh a stunning lack of execution except in rare like y if you’re watching Copa going God these guys can’t score go watch Euro there’s great opportunities the guys are blowing too Shing has not been clinical and I wonder if it’s just some of the pressure these guys are under yep you know I wonder if the pitches here in maybe have something to do with it as well there’s been so much criticism open an account with bet 365 today and bet on a huge range of markets so what whatever the sport whatever the moment it’s never ordinary at bet 365 Vancouver Canuck and Jessica’s husband for the last four years Mr Frank curado how you doing I’m good why um why all of the sudden are we talking about my significant other here well you know you know what they say Frank when a player gets married in the summer expect a poor season the next oh is that what happens that’s what punim La said that’s what they say hey and I I don’t know how you guys felt when you got married or or whatever but nothing really changed for me like life went people would ask you all the time like oh how’s it feel to be married I said exactly the same as it felt like two days ago or a day ago I I don’t know what would what would possibly change in your life like when you’re engaged or you’re living with someone that’s it that’s the show like there’s just because you just because you did a ceremony and you had the reception like what is are things just Chang now like what what changes I I don’t understand it honestly he’s a can kicker over here Frank Road Frank honestly I couldn’t have said it better myself I say those exact same things we’re not religious there’s not kind of like any kind of spiritual fulfillment that either of us are going to get if we get married uh all we’re going to do is cost ourselves a lot of money on the oh buddy yes you will yes you will um of course if we were to do it we’re not going to do it at a Frank rotto Italian Canadian Woodbridge Ontario level wedding here’s here’s where you know the conversation this conversation will really take years off your life when it’s time to talk about flowers and you’re ask your opinion on the flowers and you say they all look nice I just don’t want them to be too expensive but your opinion is wanted and and do you like and the names are out there do you like this one or that one and I’m like I don’t know they look like flowers to me can we just keep them within a certain price range so that that’s a that’s quite the conversation your opinion was wanted until you talked about price and then your opinion wasn’t wanted you just answer everything spectacular amazing honey spect do you want spectacular amazing honey so uh how about this one morning of my brother’s wedding and one of the uh groomsmen says uh uh Maddie did you get the cigars I went oh [ __ ] yeah probably should get some cigars well so I emergency trip you know to the closest place that has cigar selection right like I’m not going to a corner store because it’s the wedding and so I’m sitting there counting up the groomsmen and counting up the friends table and like it occurs to me like I need like 40 cigars and suddenly I’m into $800 of cigars yeah that’s too much yeah you are wedding on the morning of just the number of expenses well I’ll tell you this the expenses that hit you with a the full-on marriage wedding is incredible I had I had very very few responsibilities for our wedding like there was nothing that was entrusted upon me and rightfully so but one of the things one of yeah just show up and you know make sure you look half decent one of the things that was kind of you know put on my plate was the transportation the limo you cannot mess this up it goes from point A to point B it needs to be here at this time it needs to be there at that time like that is you know I I nailed it like really Goods great unbelievable but I heard a story from a buddy of mine who had the same you know same kind of thing it’s like I’m trusting you with one thing here it is and he didn’t tell the company that this was for a wedding he played koi he’s like you know we’re just we need we need it to show up at this time at that time and I guess the driver showed up and saw everyone all dled up for the wedding and the driver said um You didn’t tell us this was a wedding he goes okay so he goes well you’re not paying the wedding rates you’re paying like the the whatever rate it’s like so you mean to tell me driving from point A to point B is different yeah the price is different just because we’re wearing tuxedos and and dresses and yeah I I they they just Mark things up it is semic Criminal what happens is Criminal it’s a license to print money they have brainwashed people about this activity if you’re not religious it is a crass legal ceremony surrounded by family members we’ve screwed up making a podcast company you you make this is a little tip for those of you looking for careers out there pets babies weddings those that’s the Holy Trinity of how to make money in the world pets babies weddings yeah LIC it is a license to print money like I know some really Frugal older men in my family and on wedding days the rules do not apply yeah yeah anyway why are we talking about this well I’ll say I’ll say this my wedding was unbelievable we had such a good time and the way the way our wedding worked it was like the first time that people were really like L out of the cage postco you know because we did we got married in 2020 it was a small ceremony 20 it was June of 2022 and we had 250 people there roughly wow and it was yeah it was like everyone’s kind of Welcome out of the house moment so it was it was Rowdy it was a good time yeah good that’s good uh we’re talking about this because uh punch imlac versus via Terry Jones is concerned that McDavid and Ryle both getting married now so this is how the Canucks win the Pacific Division because punch used to say players don’t play play well the first year after marriage how you how did you play first year after your marriage how’ you think you’re uh your hits on Sports Center went I think I think pretty good actually because now now it was like everything was a little more real it’s like we got to you know we had we just had to pay for the wedding you know we probably got kids in the future um so it’s like you get your ass in that studio and you talk about the Canucks and you talk well about the Canucks you talk about the Leafs and you make a count you know so it was uh I I so unlike Le unlike Leon and Connor you did not have 10y year $12 million perear deals side as well Living on a Prayer just living life on the edge to bring this first full circle how does it feel to be married pressure I’m under a lot of pressure man I’ve got to be good when I talk about the connection another reason why you’re avoiding this the pressure we have commitment well the matter you need buddy don’t let anyone don’t let Society bully you bully you into doing something you don’t want to do thank you Frank okay let’s weave this into a question for you at the very least uh you guys are humans when you’re in the dressing room you do have personal pressures um how often did you see a teammate and and and I don’t mean like mental health issues like of course that’s going to affect the guy’s play but did you know that there was a guy that who was seriously distracted by relationship drama did you ever feel like a guy was like it’s messing with his game like he is wrapped up in it you know yes for sure but it wasn’t because the person was married like if you’re with that partner yeah pre-wedding you know engaged post-wedding it’s the same you’re you’re with that partner the relationship is the same nothing really changes just because you you slap the label on it but it always it it amazed me not so much that where you know you could kind of maybe you heard Rumblings there were some issues and the guy at the at the arena was like doesn’t bother me I go out there and I play no distraction it’s like how does that not consume you know everything you’re you’re thinking up here because I would be the type where it’s like that might completely affect me but it was so impressive with some guys where it’s like yeah that’s at home not bothering me like and maybe the arena was a little bit of an escape for you and and you didn’t have to think about things there and you could compartmentalize a little better but um I don’t know I I don’t think the label I don’t think the label changes anything and I think as far as you know team bonding and team camaraderie it’s still there you’re still going to be on the road with the guys you know at home you’re still going to have your I don’t know your your stable of guys that you might do stuff with it’s not going to alienate you um and if it does you know if it does alienate you if you have to go home on the road um and and go to your hotel and have an hour and a half FaceTime call um just because you know if there’s no pressing matters or you know issues it’s like that’s kind of your own fault for not setting that boundary I I don’t think that’s a byproduct of just being married that’s just you know you didn’t set a boundary early on in your relationship if there was any truth to what punch was saying it would be about kids for me not about marriage like the first year after you have a kid like there’s there’s actual new responsibilities new things to do and there’s less sleep less sleep too like can you imagine Frank with twins you what that would have been like during your playing days if you’ve got to go on the road if you’ve got to practice and all that sort of stuff after hours honestly like I honestly can’t imagine right now and probably you would make certain Arrangements like you would in your you’re making NHL money you would have to have the Night Nurse you would have to have the full-time Nanny because you know you need to be you need to understand that you know from the time you wake up at 7 a.m. on a practice day you’re locked into hockey until the time you get home which is maybe around two you know and then you can be and do your recovery and all that kind of stuff but then you know next day’s game dat so you’re you’re nowhere to be found you’re there but you’re not there you know so that’s where you know that’s where it would be a little more difficult but but like I said you know you have to make the arrangements you know when it comes to the relationship you have to kind of set the not set the tone because that sounds a little archaic but it’s like here’s kind of the way things have to work and we both have to be okay with this and on the same page is it and then you know there there has to be that light at the end of the tunnel I think where it’s like if we really lock this in if we and and I can really maximize things you know there’s guys you have a good NHL career you can make between 20 and 30 million never have to work another day in your life and from the time you’re 35 until whatever you’re living a great life together you know so it is a little bit of like a if you can get your partner to to to understand that there is a a short-term sacrifice and and you know team uh team bonding is part of that you know your play on the ice is part of that but you can live a really nice life for a long time your life is longer after hockey than it is during hockey but you really to years those 5 to eight years until that moment they can seem like a really long year for the wife who’s who’s home alone lot did you used to um did you you did you used to nap on game day and did you do that at a hotel or did you go home to do that I well I never really had a a reason to like leave the house right the I know some guys during the playoffs like the hotel just because you know there’s no kids there’s no distractions maybe honestly even the blinds are better like you can get a good nap like something as ridiculous at that as that but um I was always a nap guy during during game days um except for like there was times I just literally couldn’t sleep then I would just lay there and close my eyes for a bit and then scroll my phone and get up and and get ready to go but um you know all the married guys that I remember playing with I think they were just you know my routine kind of has to go on for the sake of of you know my career and being successful and um you know there there is you know with with this conversation has to happen with mentioning that it is a big sacrifice for the family and the wife and the kids like you don’t see Dad a lot and even sometimes dad is there and it’s like you’re there but you’re not there you know so it’s it’s not easy and especially with young kids you know how do you convince a or or or you know persuade a four or five-year-old that hey like we’re going to play later or you know like there’s there’s some negotiating that goes on there it’s hard for them to understand that right so I think there’s um there’s there’s a lot of Sacrifice from a lot of people when it comes to the family stuff and and successful hockey players what about this because this uh cropped up on Canuck’s Twitter um this week with regards to Jake debrus what about overzealous fans Frank even stalkers did you see did you see any of that uh in the NHL just not like not firsthand like I I think you you know you might hear more like digitally you know like but you can just block people now you know someone wants to spam your inbox with you know stupid messages or um be a little overzealous that way you can just hit the block button um I don’t know like stalking has such a such a weird creepy conation to it that you know someone’s like sitting outside your apartment building or they’re showing up at the same coffee shops or restaurants you’re always going to that is that is strange but I think you know the way teams are set up now and this has been this way for a long time every team has like a a security person it’s just one phone call away and they kind of can take care of things you know the right way obviously um and these are you know would be retired detectives or retired police officers and you know they’re they’re basically committed to the security of all the players and staff on the team 247 so um there are you know there are Avenues the correct Avenues you can go through to kind of you know make sure that that that doesn’t affect you on to uh back on hockey and the Oilers uh and Canucks where do you think the Gap well first of all where do you think the Gap was between the Canucks and Oilers this year through the playoff series and where do you think it’s g in the offseason based on what each team has done because leaning on the marital status probably is not going to be enough to narrow that yeah probably not I’m not sure the K’s going to look at and McDavid and dry are getting married we’re winning the Pacific again next year yeah exactly um well you know with with those guys getting married you have to think that the Canucks are are running away with with the Pacific um based on that as Day based on based on that that logic everybody knows this listen the the Gap is is pretty close um we saw that in the playoffs like it was you know it’s a shot here or a game there and it’s the Canucks moving on and not the Oilers so um with the Canucks looking like a better team and I know you know some people may not think so I do I I think the Canucks are are a better team on paper this year than they were last year um The Gap should be pretty close the other thing that that comes to mind when I think about them closing the Gap is you know the 11.6 million player for the Canucks has to play that way um you know he has to be a superstar because Edmonton Superstars those guys seldom take a night off and and when they do you know the team has a hard time winning but um those guys are just so good so you know Pon has to be pson that makes 11.6 I imagine JT Miller’s coming back the exact same way that he left off you know Brock besser um you know had a had a career year last year and I expect him to be more like last year’s Brock besser not the previous two seasons Brock besser you know like all those things would need to happen but I I can see the Canucks being right there with the Oilers um the Oilers are probably more still more explosive offensively more Dynamic offensively um their you know their blue line kind of is what it is at this point like it’s not getting any better um it just you know it stays stagnant and you know for the Canucks I would say the same is probably relevant to them you know with the additions that they made in the subtractions like there’s not that much of a variance there so I think we’re going to see a very you know when it comes to the race between those two teams I think it would be very similar to how things kind of ended off this year where it’s it’s close it’s close down the stretch and that’s I mean that’s very complimentary to the Canucks because Edmonton was was one win away from winning a Stanley Cup and you know it’s a team that has the best player in the world and on any given day the player who might be considered number two in the world up front who um outside of De Brusque which was your Canucks uh your favorite free agent signing from I I thought the Heinen I thought the Heinen signing was good um I I think there there might even be you know I think he 17 goals last year like there there could be a little more offense there like he’s he’s good with his Puck touches um you know he’s a pretty smooth player and the fact that you know you didn’t you didn’t blow all your money on one scoring Winger kind of allowed you to do the debrusk hinen thing um and just having you know the swap out basically of of laferty Mev into you know de Brusque and uh Heinen and Sherwood uh it it just I I like I like the fact that there’s there’s more opportunity now to score up front um and the blue line like the blue line signings aren’t overly exciting but they make sense and they’re logical like Derek forbert uh you know when he was playing at his best in the NHL is big strong guy like he’s you know he takes up a lot of space he’s rangy there’s nothing wrong with that Vinnie de har uh improved a lot in Edmonton uh you know especially with the pucks so there’s you know I think there’s there’s even more potential there once he starts working with gonar and Adam foot to see what you know what he could be as a defenseman but the the Heen one for me is the most exciting one because you know I think you were you were going to get your your one scoring Winger like I and I’m classifying you know as far as the open market right like Jake debrus was your your target that’s your that’s your number one guy but to bring in another player you know maybe not like de brusk but similar who can maybe get goals maybe get you 50 points um at $2.25 million I think that’s you know there’s that’s something to be excited about everybody’s convinced there’s one more big move left by this Management Group and and not immediately but sometime in the next six months midseason perhaps would you be first of all would you be surprised by that and try to get in their brain do you want to do that in the summer or do you want to see what shakes free who panics you know after two months of the season and maybe there’s new talents available that that doesn’t seem to be available right now what do you think the timeline is on on the splash by the Spanish M group well first of all I would not be surprised at all because you know it seems like Jim Rutherford he’s he’s ready to rock man like he’s he wants to pull the trigger and have you know big moves big names all that kind of stuff um but I I don’t think it’s just about the headline for him like I think they’re they’re logical moves um it almost feels like it’s plug-and play with this team you know it’s like player X goes out player y comes in you know dorov is out forbort comes in Ian Cole is out de har comes in like it’s just it’s just piecing the puzzle together which is seemingly what they do so if I’m you know taking a look at the roster um what’s the next puzzle piece that that is coming out and what is that getting replaced with based on the history of their pattern and how they do things it’s not super evident to me right now what that would be um you know so so that would lead me to believe that it probably is a little bit of a longer timeline Blake where you know you’re going to go into the season and kind of see okay what do we look like where are we lacking where are we doing well um and and you know they’ve shown this group that they’re not afraid to make a trade during the regular season when maybe things are quiet like they’re they will be the ones to get the ball rolling they will be the ones to set the market so I don’t think they should be any in any rush to do things now and if you’re just kind of playing with the lines um you know Miller besser hoglander like do you want to see what that looks like do you want to give him more of an opportunity up there like is peer going lower in the lineup like I just think there’s there’s a lot more that you can do with the lineup now so I would maybe try and focus on that first before I make the the external kinds of moves the risk is of course you don’t start well and then you look desperate and then maybe you don’t get the same leverage right I suppose but you know like I don’t see like I I I guess I don’t see this team team not getting off to a good start like I I I think they would get off to a pretty good start and even if you tread water for a little bit right average start is fine yes yeah like even an average start is fine you need to catch you need to catch fire at some point then you need to catch fire at the right time and um ultimately put yourself in a playoff spot and with with the way the things line up in the playoffs now it’s like you’re going to have to go through a good team eventually you know sometimes you have to do it in the first round sometimes it’s a second round like it’s just there’s no easy way to get through it so as long as you’re in the dance um you know you’re fine but I just and you know what even if even if you are a team that you know reeks of desperation to make these kinds of Trades you can get pretty creative now like you can find ways to get you know people’s contracts and money that other teams don’t necessarily want and like you might actually be helping a team out taking a player who who makes some you know makes some cash that um you know it’s not it’s not the the traditional kind of um you know demand that that maybe we have seen in the past yeah and um what we’ve also been talking about this week Frank is uh all these forers who are still available in trade most of them Wingers Marner NES eers zis even lony when teams were able to you know speak to them more readily so there is offense available here via trade uh in the NHL summer because we anticipate most of if not all those guys are going to be finding new homes yeah I I guess I think marner’s running it back as a mapela I I I think he’s going to I think he’s going to do this year in Toronto I don’t know like I don’t know if there’s going to be and this is just me speculating like I have obviously no inside knowledge I don’t know what would warrant an extension for him until you see what it looks like in the playoffs like what’s he going to show you in the regular season that he hasn’t showed you already you know that would now say oh we’ll give you the extension like you kind of need to see what the playoffs looks like so that might be scary for the Leafs it might not be scary for Marner because I think there’s a big bag of cash waiting for him you know if he’s signs an extension with Toronto or if he gets to market the the NES you know eers thing is interesting to me uh because you would think they’re that would make sense if both those two guys maybe flipped you know for each other and I don’t know the other pieces that would go each way but you know eers would be going to Carolina which would give them you know a different look um you know up front and and then NIS would go to Winnipeg which would make sense for them because now they can sign him to a longer term ticket yes they’re going to have to pay him but theoretically if he plays well and he plays you know kind of in the the price range that you’re paying him now you can buy up a lot of Ufa years which is important for the Jets because now they don’t have a guy who’s going to Market in two and three years and maybe signing somewhere else so um that would make sense on paper and I think with Trevor zis like I’m I’m not you know if if I’m a GM I’m probably not overly eager to to give up much like I I think I he he he has he probably has more to his game that he needs to develop uh before I’m willing to give up significant assets and uh Patrick l makes a lot of money like he makes 8.7 million and you know great goal scorer hasn’t been able to score a lot just because he hasn’t been healthy um so there’s there’s complications with that as well so as much as there’s names out there um there’s just not you know there’s not a lot that that makes sense maybe for Vancouver but I think to to Blake’s point you know because some of these deals are harder to make you know even if you do look desperate um if you can find ways to kind of move some money around in on your own books and you can take that money off of someone else uh maybe there is an easier deal to be made if you really had to make that deal so I I wouldn’t I wouldn’t worry too much or I wouldn’t get too hung up on maybe looking desperate in the eyes of other teams if things don’t get off to a good start all right buddy well we’re in the uh dead of NHL summer I’m sure you we ever yeah are we ever we talked about weddings for 13 minutes today I well I was gonna ask you let’s bring it first how many weddings are you going to this summer of teammates you know we have two we have two this summer the summer we got the summer we did our reception I think we had 12 I’m not even joking yeah weddings so we are in the window right like these are the next seven weeks or so where NHL players can get married if I’m not Mist yeah NHL players are just I don’t know everyone wants to get married seemingly this time of year but NHL players can’t get married between September and June because the season is on and of course every one of them will be contesting a Stanley Cup Final in June people don’t want to get married between September and June really yeah everyone wants the perfect summer day for their wedding you that’s right man some people some people will say they want a spring wedding or maybe say they want a fall wedding which I can buy the fall like I like the September I like the September wedding but if you’re a hockey player you can’t do it you can’t do it in June even because what if you’re what if you get traded to a team like you you might look at your team and say yeah we’re not winning [ __ ] this year meanwhile you get traded somewhere and it’s like uh oh now we’re now all of a sudden those deposits um they’re sitting there and the wedding Will Go On Without You the best is toino wedding total coin toss it’s either the most beautiful storybook wedding you’ve ever seen in your entire life or it’s a rain coming down sideways disaster it’s one of the two yeah honestly if you’re gonna book toino for your wedding like you’re the person who puts a large bat on black or red at the rouette table like you think nothing of walking into the casino before you check in and just dropping 5 there’s not many me toen weddings it’s spectacular or disaster one of that’s not I would I would not be able to live with that that would keep me up at night chance this thing goes sideways well you know especially given all the money and effort and energy and and potentially stress that you’re I’ll leave I’ll I’ll leave you guys on this okay we we started by talking about is it more of a distraction after the wedding for players yeah it’s more of a distraction before the wedding because you’re dealing with the wedding plan and that is more stressful than anything that comes after the wedding that’s why the Oilers lost the cup that’s why it’s it’s all coming together we just solved it right here it took us 28 minutes but we cracked the case Frank see you Frank see you guys hey everybody if you’re enjoying what you’re seeing here then follow along with Saron price on YouTube I promise more content coming they call it the kids call it subscribe on YouTube well how about liking it do that as well smash it right now

Matt and Blake dive into what else the #Canucks could do this off-season. Signing Arturs Silvos is a big priority, but will the team take it a step further and move off Tucker Poolman’s contract? Is there any way Patrik Allvin pulls of a blockbuster deal for a player like Nikolaj Ehlers or Martin Necas? Would that mean the end of Conor Garland and Nils Höglander. We discuss that all and welcome Frank Corrado to chat about how close the Canucks are to the level of the Oilers, his favourite free agent signing outside Jake DeBrusk and more.

  1. Matt you didn’t want the team to spend all their money on one forward. The team did what you wanted by spreading the money around and getting three wingers. Now it’s not good enough? Sheesh. There’s only so much a team in the salary cap era can do.

  2. Canucks adding another forward wow Hoglander stakes High that the biggest moved since this regime took over still got Benning core players lefted Hoglander podkolzon Hughes Demko Garland Boeser not resigned?plenty of capspace?
