MAJOR McGroarty trade update… – This signing could be GREAT for the Habs

talks are escalating surrounding the Habs making a trade for Star Prospect in Winnipeg Rucker mcgi and as of yesterday according to a new report the Habs have an offer on the table and something might be coming very very soon we’re going to get into all of that plus a name that’s been circulating a lot in the past few days and the Montreal Canadians has been William nander Brother Alex neander as he is a free agent he wasn’t qualified and he had a phenomenal end to the season last year we’re going to get into that plus more all on this episode of habs digest Jesse we’re going to start though with something that I saw on the athletic and this is tough I don’t want to say it’s you know completely disrespectful or anything like that but it’s tough so the athletic they had a bunch of their writers they had a bunch of their staff do some voting for the upcoming NHL season do some prediction type stuff you know it’s always a bit of fun but I just wanted to show you a couple of screenshots from that because Jesse I think it has a lot of HS fans a little upset maybe not surprised but a little upset so this is first is the playoff predictions zero% of people predicted Montreal to make a playoff spot okay but 0er perent of people also said that Montreal wouldn’t even be a sneaky playoff team no one even voted them to be a sneaky playoff team and then for GM of the Year 0% of people put in a vote for K Hughes I know he hasn’t done a ton yet this season and Barry trotz deservedly is at the top but not one single person has K I think he should be in there with all those other names finally Jesse the skki voting noticeable lack of Nick Suzuki with zero people voting for Nick Suzuki yeah names like Jordan Stall Mark Stone who’s probably going to barely play AO Jarvis Crosby head of Suzuki it’s like some of these names fine a lot of these names I don’t see why Suzuki isn’t there I don’t know it just felt like reading this whole thing the Habs were a complete afterthought and I get it they were bad but it just it still hurts to see this as a Habs fan yeah objectively speaking probably right in not making the playoffs at least next year but I don’t know at least getting a little bit of love in the sneaky pick because again we’re planning to be taking some major step UPS next year and kind of being a lot more kind of In Contention right so I’d love to get a little bit love there of course the athletic is no stranger to throw in a little bit of shade at the Montreal Canadians at their fans you know by extension at the moment at the time being right we’ll see that as they start to improve obviously people are going to be jumping on the bandwagon for sure but I’m here to say that the first year that Ian demidov is with the Montreal Canadians we are making the playoffs not next year but the year after and of course it’s not just going to be Ivan demov it’s not going to be just him we’re going to have a young core that’s going to get a chance to grow really get its identity but Kent’s going to be adding pieces knowing what’s coming but I think with that roster construction them growing together and then putting Evan Diamond off in the mix even in his rookie season you know and I think being very much in contention for the colder in his first year in the NHL I think the Montreal Canadians are making the playoffs like looking at this list it might look like the playoffs are so far away like we’re we’re never GNA get there right but it is not true we are closer than it seems right like having buff having utta with so much even like the Columbus Blue Jackets were getting so much love just throughout this article right like I’ll believe it when I see it right because people been pumping up you know the Sabers tires for years the Senators they’re supposedly so further along in their rebuild right but at the same time I don’t know I I’ll definitely need to see that one look I get it I think a lot of our hype for Montreal comes from what we project is going to happen we project Ken Hughes to make another move or two we project our prospects to jump up a and skill it’s hard to say any of that concretely whereas a lot of other these other teams you can see concrete improvements whether it’s bringing in a player trading someone out this kind of stuff ABS have done some great drafting but like you said we’re not going to see the effects for another few years so it’s okay for now we’ll keep an eye in the future I’m still a little peeve that Nick Suzuki is not on the Cy list but let us know your thoughts on this whole thing down below because I certainly think these polls are going to change a lot next offseason but we’re going to move on to the next topic Jesse and this is talking about Alex neander and I think this could be a good move for Montreal though again it’s it’s hard to say with these forwards but I’ll I’ll let you guys decide we’ll put the evidence out there so tball they’ve been talking a bit recently about Alex NE there have been talks about him for a little while as Columbus decided not to qualify him despite his amazing end of the season I’m going to bring up the quote here from T ASA I’m going to translate this as we go of course basically said at the end after talking about Daniel sprong and Tyler Johnson who we’ve covered in other videos yeah Alex neander he’s a known name he’s the little brother of William neander and his career was going nowhere until the Penguins traded him to the Blue Jackets and since he joined the Blue Jackets lineup he exploded for 15 points 11 goals and only 23 games for them last year he had five five games with zero points of Pittsburgh which is why it’s 28 but you can just take that as 23 because that that was his time with Columbus 11 goals 15 points Jesse his cory4 percentage again like a lot of these guys were linking to Montreal was well above 50% which is very good 16 minutes average time on Ice solid shooting percentage overall he’s a solid player the question is where again like all these guys where does he fit in the lineup I mean I think if you bring him in you want to ideally play him third line you bring him in for really cheap I think you can get him for really cheap and for that goal scoring Pace it’s pretty crazy as a nice depth scoring piece to just again kind of help bolster that bottom six in Montreal you maybe bump armia down to the fourth line you kind of maybe remove Harvey penard or petta from the lineup to make room for this guy again it’s a bit crowded but based on that pedigree at the end of that season with Columbus I know he was playing with some good linemates and stuff but like look again I I think it’s tough to make room for him but I think it’s worth taking a look to see how much he costs cuz I think in terms of production value for the cost he might come in as a really good bargain I don’t know for me Josh anything just kind of Leafs related you know even though he didn’t play for the Leafs in any type of way is it stressful Josh I just like to stay away from it right but you know it’s like good size as you mentioned you know um obviously former first round pick you know eighth overall um you know a little bit more of a goal scorer it’s something that the Habs definitely do need but for me it’s like when we’re looking at his career never been able to really take off at the NHL or the AHL level I would say like some okay production for sure some goal scoring the HL but almost you’d almost expect just a little bit more still for a first round pick right you know now with this fourth NHL team you know for me there’s just kind of like some red flags there a little bit there’s you know I could see the scoring being interesting but I don’t know for me just seems like some drama you know kind of associated again totally not his fault um but at the same time joshh like you have to feel like the trade route like getting a vet like with about two to three years left on his deal that we know can score for me that would be almost ideal like I know we’re going to talk about a younger player which could be good for me getting a vet in our top six like that’s something we’re missing that can score you know I feel like Kent Hughes is going to be looking for this route and I don’t think he’s gonna settle for anything less I look at what Monahan did for this team and I completely agree I think nander while he could be good good production on a good bargain I think he’s more well suited to a team that’s sort of ready to contend now to me it doesn’t make as much sense to shorn him into this Habs lineup again could be good objectively but I think other teams would make maybe more lucrative offers but also it’d be a move for the sake of making a move I think there’s other places like you said Ken Hughes might want to go whether it’s trading for a vet or trading for maybe a more established player who has a better history of production I don’t know let us know your thoughts on Alex nander I think we’re all kind of in agreement that it’s not the best move for Montreal despite other articles kind of saying it could be good but hey we love to hear from you down below final topic though we got a big Rucker mcy update Jesse we love to talk about him the trade talks surounding have been quiet a little bit recently now we do know that Kent Hughes supposedly had a trade sort of lined up if demov didn’t fall to Montreal in the draft could that have been mordi a lot of people are speculating yes but that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t still been thinking about Rucker as a lot of us have a recent report from IB The Gambler on Twitter said that Rucker M groy whispers are starting to get a little louder this is just yesterday the Jets talking with three teams with an offer expected to be on the table from the Canadians the Habs interest was first reported here last week now this page on Twitter if you haven’t seen they have well over a 100,000 Twitter followers they have gotten some Scoops before they are decently connected and it wouldn’t surprise me if the Habs did have an offer on the table whether it was from the draft or whether it was made after the draft and Jesse as we know Rucker mcgr he’s getting a lot of hate I think because of you know this whole thing of like you know he wants to play in the NHL and supposedly some teams have backed out of trade offers from the Jets because of what they heard from Rucker and his agent is he being told to not go to the NHL I don’t know but a lot of people say if they know him as a person that he’s a great leader a great player a great person so I think that whatever team ends up with him is getting an absolute steel now we’ve heard some unsubstantiated rumors about what the tradeoffer might be for him including masar Baron and a pic not going to report that because that’s really iffy but Jesse regardless the fact that we’re hearing Montell has an offer on the table got me pretty excited because it means there still tuned in Rocka mordi and they’re still looking to hopefully make an offer for a star young Prospect I’m really excited about this too uh we are hearing some other rumors though Josh which is just kind of dampening you know the mood a little bit about it just with like hearing that there’s maybe like and again these are rumors but just that he asking for guaranteed ice time a role on the power play like for me I have no problem like if a player wants to trade from the team and it’s warranted you know for sure it’s a business it’s not the ideal situation we’ve all heard the expression like don’t bite the hand that feeds you but I can kind of get where it’s like okay but you know you need to look after your own career it’s a little bit of a red flag but for me it’s not the end of the world but when you start hearing about the ice time about the power play you would think like going to another team that’s a little bit more still developed and rebuild like that would be inherent in it you don’t need to ask for those things that’s why you want to just go to a team where you’d have more of the top six opportunity ice time and the power play of course just comes with that right so that’s why these are just rumors we can’t guarantee that that’s what’s being said I really hope it’s not because I like the player a lot and it’s kind of surprising because everything we’ve heard before is like amazing character everything else so I’m hoping this isn’t part of it and honestly I would be really happy if that wasn’t part of it and Kent Hughes made a trade to make this happen yeah it’s it’s a bit spooky right yeah like you said apparently he’s asking teams for the world just to go to them which has caused reportedly multiple teams to back out of trade talks now again like that that’s where it gets to this controversy because it’s like again he himself seems fine and people are speculating well is it his agent forcing him to say these things is it his family is it someone telling him that you know you can you can demand for these things and someone will trade for you who fits those demands or is it actually Rucker himself that’s something we’ll never know Jesse and it’s something a lot of teams are probably trying to figure out on their own we’re not going to speculate about that here but regardless he’s a phenomenal Prospect at the end of the day I’m just going to flash his stats up one more time so you can take a look he’s heading back to college this year to finish it out I’d be thrilled if the Habs pulled the trigger on a trade for him whether it’s the trade offer that is reported that’s not probably not true involving Mayar I don’t know but hey all we can do is wait and see do you guys think Kent Hughes is going to do what he can to pull the trigger on mcgi or are you scared away from some of the reports that have been out there we’d love to hear from you down below because I mean I think again at the end of the day if he ends up in Montreal as long as the price is not too crazy I think we’d be happy but that’ll do it for this episode of habs digest if you enjoyed leave a like comment subscribe 1. Imagine Alex Nylander signing a cheap contract with the Habs and becoming a legit middle six two way forward.. the entire leaf fanbase will need therapy.

  2. I actually think it’s likely the Habs push for a wildcard this coming season, KH definitely wants that and he will pull the trigger on deadline deals if we’re in a good spot I think (deals for long term success not just vets on rental deals)

  3. Montreal isnt making the playoffs.
    Its not shade, its analysis.

Nick suzuki is the 13th penalty killer in montreal. why would he be a selke candidate? jake evans is our most used checking forward.

  4. Just look at all the people with egg on their faces when we DO make the playoffs! Love being the black swan and proving everyone wrong. Bring it hockey clowns!!! 🤡

  5. I see them competing for a playoff spot 25/26 season and expect them to be in the playoffs regularly starting in 26/27. Unless a lot of these prospects turn out to be busts.

  6. Stay away from McRroarty. We dont need that ego in the dressing room. No guarantee he won't sit out till his eligibility expires. Extortion is never a good look.

  7. I would rather we go after Laine. He is already proven to be able to hang in the NHL. He is a pure sniper and can bounce back under Coach Martin St. Louis's system. That McGroarty kid seems like bad news. Bad attitude. Bad moral for the locker room. He may be a flop for all we know. First time we send him down to the minors for a stint and he will have a hissy fit. Seems to risky. We need a vet who can score and win some games. Laine can do that. We have enough unproven kids . We need some older guys to lead them and teach em.

  8. Tough ride homies, if Dach doesn’t pan out, the playoffs are a pipe dream next year. Canfield also has to rebound, he can’t be the shooter hog with a 8.plus percentage. The offense needs to run more toward Slav’s and Dach’s development as potentially two big body playoff players. Hutson and Canfield might only be offensive depth playoff pieces down the road, due to their diminutive size.

  9. Reports out of Winnipeg are that Jets management were underwhelmed by the Canadiens offer.
But also potential trade partners have been scared off by demands coming from the McGroarty camp for guaranteed roster spot, PP time etc.
Could it be that this trade is hung up trying to agree to terms with whichever team has permission to negotiate with him?
Lastly who is McGroarty's best bud? Gauthier, who pulled the same stunt in Philly. Monkey see monkey do?

  10. Why do we even want this guy. Not proven. A whiner. He doesn't want to go thru the Normal path everybody else does? Entitled? He wants to go by Roy…Beck.. all of our other prospects that are paying their dues?? No thanks. Let him rot in the minors

  11. Honeslty best to go with the team we have right now, unless you can move out anderson, gally, dvorak. Next year is the year to go free agent hunting. Let the young guys develop and see what we already have

  12. IF HuGo goes after McGroarty, i believe that they have due diligence on the player, and the person.
Everyone is speaking based off od media speculation.
I trust HuGo way more than the media.

  13. I personally would love to see the Habs come in last, so they get one more top five draft pick. However, as a Habs fan, I know this team will kick some ass this coming year.

  14. It sucks that Suzuki is not there,he is a lot better than some of the players that they have on the team,he will make Team Canada a better team,he deserves to be on Team Canada ❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦

  15. Montreal need to focus on making roster room and getting rid of bad contracts , not only Anderson and Gallagher are taking to much cap room for zero production but they’re also taking a spot away for a player that needs nhl minutes to develop, you can replace Gallagher and Anderson by anyone in the system and get a higher production and all around game for a tenth of the cost

👆This is what Kent Hughes is working on , as of right now, all the habs have cap room for are patches , by 2025-26 , Ken Hughes wants tons of cap room

  16. come on Josh, we all know what the Athletic is……I at best skim thru any article from them. I swear they are Buffalo, NY organization

  17. we just picked up Jacob Perreault so Alex Nylander is yet another swing not worth it. Lets see if Jacob responses to new team

  18. I’ll be so happy getting McGroarty and wouldn’t be worried about the rumours. If we get him, I simply trust Hughes. If his personality is an issue Hughes won’t pull the trigger. If it isn’t, we’ll be trading for an elite prospect at most likely their lowest trade price.

  19. The best wingers to help out Dach and Newhook on their lines that are available that we could both sign are Daniel Sprong and Van Riemsdyk. Alex Nylander could be a good bet too, he was finding himself in a team where he was getting minutes, which he would in the Habs. It doesn't hurt to have transient veterans who can score 20 goals this season, otherwise it'll be just the first line that can score, even if Dach gets back right where he left off after that ridiculous hit by Jared Tinordi, an old mtl draft pick who should be in the AHL in normal circumstances 😠, not sure Gallagher or Armia is equipping a second line enough. HP can and likely will rebound after that awful year where he got injured 3 times, came back too soon from an injury and just scored 1 goal in like 40 games. Zegras can play the wing too and Anaheim are still not doing anything in his case. I'd love for Sprong and either Van Riemsdyk or Nylander to both sign 1 year contracts for next season with the habs, we need wingers desperately so, 2 out of 3 of these have proven they can score 20 goals, Sprong isn't good defensively….Van Riemsdyk is though, so, I wouldn't let those obscure still free agents too long if I was Kent Hughes, for Dach to produce, he needs wingers, same for Newhook. 4th line with Armia and Pezzeta would be fine.

If Monty continues to improve like he's done year after year between the pipes and the majority of the team stays healthy, Habs might miss the playoffs but 1-10 points this season if Dach and Newhook are given wingers to play with and at least 2 veteran signings would be great, Joshua Roy and HP can complement those 2nd and third lines with Sprong, Van Riemsdyk and the fourth line is already built with Pezzeta-Evans-Armia. Yes, I say we can trade or simply waive Dvorak, he was a machine in the OHL, playing with Marner and Tkachuk in the London Knights, but he never fully unlocked in the NHL, maybe send him to Toronto so he can play with Marner, as it looks like he will be with Toronto this year and maybe traded at the deadline depending on many factors, but reuniting Dvorak with Marner (see what they did together in the OHL…oof, Dvorak was a 55 goals 120 pts kind of guy, even better than Marner) and see what Toronto could offer back, I don't mind if it's not much, I just want space in the lineup as I think, although he was injured a lot, but that applies to almost everybody except Suzuki in these last 3 years, didn't turn out to be player he was supposed to become and it's a trade like that or simple waivers for Christian the Robot.
