[Music] hey everybody how you doing well that’s good welcome to phly Flyers my name is Bill matz I’m your director fun and games for the evening joining me today on this beautiful mailbag Monday we have the star of the Anthony Gargano show it is JP Zapata as well as Broad Street Hockey Zone Kelly Hinkle what’s going on everybody hello great how we doing oh very well very well I think everyone yeah nice nice refreshing Monday here going to get into some mailbag stuff Charlie’s away Charlie was starting to get annoyed with how dependent we were being on the mailbags and he was like we’re going to switch it up this year so whenever he’s not around I make it I make it a mailbag show I’m like well guess what you’re not home so I’m gonna do what I want to do yeah when dad’s not here we [ __ ] around yeah exactly and that’s uh that’s what we’re gonna do today I solicited uh some questions people like your shirt Kelly um I solicited some questions from our Discord our uh our die hards over on the Discord as well as on Twitter and we are going to start with the questions from the die hards I want to just get right into this because we have a lot and uh there’s like new time constraints on the shows welcome if you’re joining us on Roku and all that stuff it’s pretty cool uh but just little things we’ve had to change like I I screwed up the ads the other day when uh I was we’re supposed to do two in a row and I just kept talking I was like I had a point to make I totally forgot about the second ad but we’re we’re adjusted on the Fly here uh Welcome to our our new audience and partners and all that let’s get it started with the first question on mailbag Monday from another rubber tree plant I guess a a a harac Callis fan do you think the Flyers should be considering any of their players who are now eligible for RFA contracts this off season rather than waiting for next for next year if so which in a quick look over at pedia rip cap fr no uh puckpedia is it’s getting together so next year you have Noah Kates Morgan Frost Tyson forer and uh cam York who will all be eligible for new contracts of course as of July 1 of this year they’re eligible for extensions not done yet uh nor is the UFA extension for uh Travis connecting wow black there for a second like the idea of getting these guys signed early I guess the only reason to do it is if you think you’re going to save money it’s three of the four AR like Tyson Forster maybe he’ll reach what he needs to this year and then he’ll be ar but as of right now not even arbitration eligible next year uh but if you think you can save yourself some money and I think the only ones they’d really be worried about that with are cam York and maybe Tyson forer if forer you 20 goals as a rookie all of a sudden okay yeah he has 28 30 goals and he’s playing say alongside Matt mitkov okay you’re going to maybe you extend him and cam York because oh by the end of the year he was the number one defenseman on this team literally yeah uh now maybe Jamie Dale has the big breakout maybe Travis sanheim first half is what we see for the entire season he did slow down a bit uh in the second half but there’s a chance cam York is this team’s number one defenseman again next year so maybe you want to get that done for 5 mil instead of it costing you seven or eight like if he has the big breakout season maybe gets some time on the power play puts up some scoring what do you think do you think there’s any rush to get any of these guys sign I don’t think there’s a rush to do anything which I think is a good thing like we’re not in the rush phase of this process yet the rush phase probably starts not next summer but the summer after I would imagine is when the rush phase starts so if I had to say one of them I would have said Forester because he’s the one I think is most likely to have a pop off next season um I mean hopefully he makes sense playing with mitkov that he already has a decent Baseline of scoring production if he takes that next step it could be an expensive contract right which is you know not a bad problem to have it means he’s a good player right exactly no obviously like all these players it’s not a priority to sign them right now but I mean like cam York seems to be the most obvious one but like Morgan Frost does intrigue me for the simple fact that he’s extremely creative but we never know what’s going to happen between him and toris come upcoming season but I mean I for me it feels like cam York is the most obvious one out of these four yeah um Frost is interesting because again make like he makes sense potentially playing with Mish kov also I get that they like tell us oh yeah we’re not trading him and he’s part of the the coach clearly just doesn’t like him yeah that’s the problem doesn’t like playing him a lot we kind of have no idea like his production could jump also it just like oh yeah we’re not extending a guy we think we’re going to trade you know like why would we do that make that another team’s problem but teams do like cause certainty like the one of the reasons I think Joel faraby his name has popped up because it’s like all right he signed you know what he’s gonna cost there’s no onus on a team to give him a new contract or it’s like all right middle six left wing for five million bucks done that’s kind of what makes him maybe appealing to some teams as a trade piece maybe you’d want to do that with fraud I don’t know but I just think they’re in such a place where the cap is what it is for this year then you look at what it’s going to be next year why have allocations on guys that are question marks like if Morgan Frost ends up being a really good second line Center then you can just pay him like one when it gets there and if he doesn’t you’re not stuck with a contract you don’t like so I kind of get wanting to get it done and having the certainty but end of the day these guys are all we just don’t know what they are and I don’t want to be tied down to dudes when I don’t have to be also I think people have fully like they’re fully into like a please Danny do a thing yeah mode and so like one of the things he could do is like a really easy just you know extend Tyson Forester do that right now I want you to do something you haven’t done anything and I’m bored so like I get it but also like we’re a little anxious in Flyers Nation rush anything really like let’s just chill I saw there was like some sort of trade today I was like oh there a trade like it was like the Oilers and Senators I think and it was like prospects and pics I was like someone did something not everyone’s on vacation like that’s probably something that like the assistant GMS like they have to go ahead from the cottage acir forward Xavier borol and definitely know who that is Chason in a trade with Edmonton exchange for forward Robbie yente this is why we need Charlie today and a fourth round pick in 2025 yes so nothing happened but like it’s just one of those like see someone did something not everyone’s on vacation send the text Danny and yeah I get it but it is interesting to look at the RFA situation and think like so much is being put on the TK situation there are other guys there are other guys but there’s just I just don’t see the rush all right let’s get to a question another one questions otherwise it’s like what am I doing here bill could have just replied on Twitter so from 207 Ste a Die Hard uh what happens if at the end of training camp the coaches think Andre and jinning is the best third pair what is where does that leave risto added zamula what added and zamula clear waivers I gotta believe they would alternate universe is Adam Jenning what the one of the best of the I just can’t see that happen Shell 24 yeah I don’t know I mean I I understand the hypothe the hypothetical of it but that would be wild um I I kind of do think those two would clear waivers I really think that we as fans get way more scared of these low-level dudes getting claimed on waivers than especially at that time where every team in the league is passing those through dudes their organizations tweeners through waivers like and we saw it though last year you know um who just signed uh Wade Allison just now has signed in the cas HL like oh maybe he won’t pass he did and he did fairly e like it was no problem sandstrom we were all like oh don’t send him down he’s gonna get claimed no he wasn’t and that’s I like they were afraid of sandstrom getting through waivers they held on on to him and carried three goalies even though they had no intention of playing him through December yeah and then finally put him through once vasileski every team in the league was afraid of the lightning just claiming a goalie and it was like they’re well-run team though they probably don’t want a bad goalie they have enough of their own I’m guessing I mean if if Andre and Jenning are that good I mean that’s probably a good problem to have but I think that adder and Jenning clear waivers yeah probably yeah uh Jenning is wer exempt uh Adder is not waiver exempt he’s in the zamula spot this year where it’s like he’s probably just going to make the team and then we’ll see how much he plays if he plays well he’ll play more if he doesn’t he’s the seven or the eight the risto question is the real interesting one yeah what happens witho do with that dude I know they would I I don’t think they’d ever put him on waivers n someone would take him in a second he’s an established wonder if at that price I think so I think they would he’s an established NHL player he was a a top defenseman for a long time plays a [ __ ] ton of minutes has all those Power Play points like some team would take him I maybe he’d be in a rot I just don’t see them putting him on waivers would it be so bad if we just [ __ ] lost Roo on waivers for nothing it would actually be a fine solution to a problem be honest understand I understand the sunk cost and like you want to get something back for him right um that cap space though and not tapping in the ltir so you have more so you have more cap space next year if uh if say Mish kov hits all his bonuses like I’m cool with that I would very much be okay with that with that situation uh but I just don’t see them putting rist in waivers I think add clears I wonder if zamula would I he was okay last year that’s true he had some flashes there and some team was pure projection this guy like never played he had the One season where he was all right as like a fourth liner like zamula was okay in in times last year scored against only Canadian teams yeah like he he had that little stretch where he was decent on the power play I don’t know I do think we overrated these guys and like they’re going to like IG zamula I think of him if he’s the six or seven going cool and if we lose him the Ronnie adder’s probably just as good like some other guy probably is just as good as Zola I wonder if he would clear probably um I think it’s going to take a lot for the defense rotation to be different than what we think it’s going to be where it’s the six basically from last year and uh Eric Johnson johnie Adder kind of factoring it in a rotation yeah that’s that’s what I’m expecting sounds like it’s going to happen all right uh now we get this is one I wanted to get into it’s addressed to Charlie Charlie not here uh but I’ll play Charlie yeah Bill and Charlie can you tell us about your youth hockey careers when did you start playing when did you stop what position thanks uh know I had a career too I Charlie o’ Conor did not play the game I don’t think I know Charlie maybe played some men’s league or some roller or something I don’t know if Charlie played as a as a youth it’s why I like spreadsheets so much because I’ve never played the game uh but I uh I started with street hockey young and it’s the picture from bottom right next to the logo there that’s me Love Frankie boy Frank in the middle he was our goalie his little brother Cub on the end there uh Drew top left Ralphie in the middle and then uh my other buddy Mike on the top right there like all of us I mean five of the six dudes in this quest in this picture were just at the wedding I was Frankie got married cuby his brother was his best man uh Drew married him he was the officient also was my officient and walk on the top right there was my best man like and we all grew up within 150 yards of each other and uh about your childhood it was the sand lot like it was it was the sand lot for hockey and like they were all like Frankie Drew three years older than me uh so they were just huge hockey fans like my dad didn’t play hockey or anything this was Bill’s brawl mates against the devil’s fans yes that’s that’s what it was we yeah we were kind I was the youngest I was me and Cub were the youngest ones they were always just making us fight like yeah go fight them like really three years older than me yeah go fight him but yeah and then we uh that’s young there and then I probably started playing ice hockey in like the third grade um was a puck carrying defenseman for a while because I was just like I was this height when I was in the fifth grade and then I stopped growing amazing so I was just like uh yeah just barreling through dudes and then when everyone else like caught up I became I was like a stay-at-home defenseman shop Locker by the time I was like a senior in high school I was a penalty killer that’s it really it really I was like Eric Johnson how he started out and then at the end but like I was 18 I wasn’t 37 like yeah did you take advantage of Play Again Sports because I know there was one yeah oh yeah I went to play it again uh I got lots of stuff there absolutely yeah the one in Mount Laurel shouts to the they’re not there anymore I don’t know if that wanted Deford there anymore but that was a great spot to get your equipment especially if you’re firsttime player when I when did I stop playing uh I went to I was on my way to uh a meeting at Temple for the club hockey team and that was over here and Taco Bell was over here and I was like what am I going to the [ __ ] NHL like I’m G to play Club hockey I’m going to play Club hockey in college like I’m not and then I played I started playing men’s league for a little bit until uh I was keeping my equipment in my dad’s shed and I guess he he needed the space and tossed it behind the shed and I didn’t know about this and it got like snowed on like a rid one ridiculous winter everything got destroyed I was like how much am I really going to invest in my men’s league hockey career so that was that was basically that a few years ago did you guys do the car game on Wayne’s World thing when you were playing street hockey oh yeah okay but we it was we had some neighbors that we wouldn’t move for and we like drive around Drive no drive around it was my neighborhood was a wild place it it was really really fun growing up there sounds a lot ofun but you played you played as a kid too JP I did so at fourth and fifth grade so I first started learning how to skate at this the Skate Zone in Vorhees and then so we found another skate uh skating ring shouts to anyone who used to go to High Ridge in Vorhees it’s not no longer there it’s like a dentist office and so I played two years there and I had the tough decision in middle school was either play hockey or play football and of course I picked football so that’s my that was the end of my hockey career but playing against Sports was so clutch uh especially as a parent who didn’t understand why I wanted to play sports so bad and didn’t want to break the bank so it was very very useful sports are expensive yes especially hockey canot imagine what it cost to play hockey now it I don’t know how people have children full I was using wooden sticks like until like the it was like Bill you there’s a certain amount of these at holidale and when’re not ordering new ones you have now this is it like we’re not getting another wooden coffee surewood like you have to just buy a one piece and it was yeah like I I the sticks are like 2300 I can’t [ __ ] imagine what the [ __ ] costs now the technology probably used these days with the sticks oh yeah and they’re so light and they break so he’s like I don’t know how you do it no breaking sticks was never really a problem for me because I took two slap shots in my entire career like I took one one time and like the dude in front like standing in Fr me didn’t block it he just like knocked it down with his stick and took the puck the other way I was like I’m not doing that again that was really embarrassing that was just horrible prone John gets it I was a poor son of immigrants so yeah no hockey whatsoever for me yeah my it was a tough it was a tough argument my dad but he finally gave in I love that for real all right uh before we go any further with these questions we got to talk about we got to talk about that chill state of mind because between work social media and the choices life throws our way it’s no wonder we have great representation here we have Jersey and Delaware Beach people question from JH which state has better beaches New Jersey or Delaware what are as like the Delaware resident what are the main like how would you answer this and like what are the differences would you say okay so I feel strongly that Delaware beaches are better New Jersey just has more of them which makes it easier to go to and gives you like more options for Vibes like like you can go to like a party Beach town in Jersey to like a chill Beach town like Ocean City with no booze or whatever like you can really find a perfectly tailored Shore town for you in New Jersey the Delaware beaches I just think they’re nicer and maybe it’s just that I grew up in Delaware but I I love like rovi beach is like one of my favorite places Dewey is great they’re just very small like you know how you go to Wildwood and it’s like a mile from the the boardwalk to the ocean in Delaware it’s like 100 feet like they’re just very small but I I don’t know I really like the beach towns in Delaware they’re just impossible to go to now because they’re so small they’re just they’ve become like prohibitively expensive to go to it’s very annoying so someone who’s never been to a Delaware Beach which one should I go to first if you were gonna uh for you as a young man you should go to Dewey that’s like the party Beach town I’m in I feel like you would like it it’s the only Delaware Beach we found this really good uh Beach camp site like near Lewis Delaware I can’t remember what it was called penelop State Park panopen yes yeah that yeah you can you can camp there which is really cool yeah that’s we we went camping there for a couple of trips a bunch of friends and me that was really cool um I will say like the beaches probably are nicer uh like I’ve always been a Sea Isle guy and like there are areas of Sea Isle where the beach is real small but so small to the point that they have been dredging them up and like right now there’s pretty wide beaches at points in Sea Isle but it’s like half Stones like because they’re just dredging this thing to try to preserve the beach in some way and it’s it’s getting kind of crazy but like in terms of how crowded is like Wildwood I know has banned those uh like tents that everyone has like popup tents now which I think are awesome because they’re like real easy to store and everything they’re small and I think umbrellas are insanely dangerous like they’re basically projectiles waiting to happen you got to put it in properly yeah well you know that’s never mind yeah I’m definitely biased going with the Jersey sh I love Jersey but I understand why people would maybe want to go somewhere nicer I see I grew I grew up going to Wildwood which is like I describe it as South Philly at the shore very much um and Delaware is like the polar opposite of Wildwood well the problem now with us is now everyone thinks we’re literally the Jersey show everyone thinks that we have all you know blowouts and we’re fist pumping or you know rocking Hardy everywhere like we’re not all like that the Jersey oh you’re definitely all like that catch me in brine this Saturday I always like like Asberry and all the northern beaches like they’re are they they are crazy I just think the Sand’s different I think everything about them is weird but like I I’ve been to Asberry it’s fun but it’s much more like Wildwood than like anywhere else in the like every town is its own place like City like mentioned is a dry town it’s for families like SE a that’s where I’ve gone the most consistently and it’s definitely where we partied the youngest but what I love about going out in SE Isle now is the age ranges are so like there’s freshly 21 year olds at listening to the same cover band that I’m at and then like my mother-in-law who’s you know early 70s yeah is going to those same places and having just as much fun yeah awes like C wide ranges Wildwood apparently that place is just insane now they have to like arrest every child under 14 on the on the boardwalk and everything Wildwood is a weird place and there’s so many different sections like North Wildwood and the crest each one is their own like kind of place so it’s always just kind of about what you’re looking for Mar is us to do Keenan and echos almost once every month ju once in June once July once in August I just need claw games in the sea and I’m happy in my late teens early 20s one of my best friends was a North Wildwood uh lifeguard so that was a uh that was quite the time I bet it was those were some wild times I bet it was it was I was a manager at Pizza Hut and I worked it so I would do a double open to close two days off and then another double so I would get the two days off in between so I would always just go to Wildwood stay at his house for two days and then come back in the morning to open Pizza Hut that was my that was my routin life right there guys um JP this is a fun one and I think we can get into a little bit of the rank week stuff with this one um from where did this go from Luca uh can JP tell us the story of how he became a Flyers fan absolutely uh so it’s it’s very simple uh maturity is really what made me Flyers fan that sounds weird gr especially with the Flyers the last 15 years uh so growing up I always loved hockey I think we talked about it the Mighty Ducks I was one of my favorite movies as a kid Mighty Ducks is like responsible for a whole generation of hockey fans literally like we just had like being from this area it’s the lindos era so like we had that as well like there was substantial buzz but if you’re from [ __ ] wherever cam York if you’re from in California you’re a hockey fan there’s a team on the west like that was that was genius like the ducks in the league that was the maybe the smartest thing the NHL ever did yeah which and of course they went and ruined it yeah that was just really smart I was a casual hockey fan and then like um ironically enough now that I work with him CZ his 4 four Mantra really you know if we’re fans of the Eagles we can easily be fans of the Sixers Phillies and flyers and I obviously made a YouTube career the past five years with doing five for five if we can root for these other teams we can root for the union too so I that once I be once I realize that I went all in on the Flyers and I’m not regretting it so much you know love the Kelly how far back I remember the Eastern Conference Final in ’95 against the devils like that’s when I can actually remember watching them how far back do you like because my memory’s [ __ ] horrible same so my my the the real like distinct I can remember sitting there watching it and being incredibly emotionally invested with was the 97 final that’s the one where I was like because before I think I was like too young and too casual because I like my family is not a hockey family like my par like none of my family watched hockey so it wasn’t like a thing that was on in the house like I had to search it out um and I think before that that’s when it was on prism yes so that was hard because we were poor so I did not have any pay channels um but the 97 final was when I got like emotionally devastated for the first time by the NHL and so there’s really no looking back once that happens to you yeah 20 I I had the same thing but with the 2010 team and I just remember vividly like I was sophomore in high school dude the whole school everybody was in on thees the city was God that was so fun everyone was just so into the Flyers it was and like I remember you mentioned like how Aunt would talk hockey back when he was on the radio he was at WIP at the time I remember in 2010 they did this uh with the Chicago station they did like this debate and the [ __ ] dude from Chicago drops like a p limberg joke like right away and an just like B I don’t think so like it like it got tense immediately I was like [ __ ] yeah yeah seriously it was but yeah man it was um yeah it’s I probably I my dad like my parents weren’t hockey people but like freaked out got on the bandwagon when they got lindross yeah and I like I can kind of remember like going to the Spectrum for a game but it’s really like yeah like 95 to 97 that time and then of course like the Phantoms that just was that was my [ __ ] that that that is really more than the Flyers oddly enough the Phantoms are what really cemented me as a hockey person I was a I Was A Boy Scout the time and they would give us free tickets to the Phantoms and I would that was my only experience in the Spectrum going Phantoms games season tickets they win the CER cup like hell yeah man um but we’re doing it is phly rank week all all throughout all City we’re doing the rankings of the top 25 games in each city so we all had to come up with our list and uh we actually had a Flyers game and as the first one released the number 25 this one this is like this is the one Charlie always references like um game six 2004 Eastern Conference Final against Tampa Bay man this is this is just one of the best hockey games I’ve ever seen it was pretty good Keith Primo on one that wraparound game time goal G wins it in overtime Simone G and the number of clutch goals he is like I feel like we won’t talk about him enough we don’t like Danny being Mr playoffs and the Run Keith Keith Primo was on in these playoffs like G just kind of gets lost in the shuffle and like I can why do you think that is I don’t know I think we just kind of took him for granted for a while and he was just such an under the radar great player uh that like this goal like two of the games like game seven against Boston’s obviously GNA make this list right he scored the gamewinner in that one too we’re talking about two of the biggest playoff games in franchise history now granted this is since 1980 this list I was born in 1988 I did my best for 80s representation but at the end of the day I’m just going to rank something higher that I’ve seen of than like obviously uh I would be shocked if 1987 game six isn’t the highest rated Flyers game and it was number one on my list but like I didn’t see it however in this time frame there is not a bigger game than forcing a game seven in the Stanley Cup Final like I’ve seen two Stanley Cup Final they went two and eight in those games so it’s really hard to pick if one of the two I’ve seen I don’t I think one Stanley Cup final game made my list the Drew overtime winner I doubt it’s going to make the top 25 which is just funny because that’s the deepest they’ve gone in my lifetime but yeah they lost in six exctly they lost in six sorry that kind of sour things and they lost it at home it’s not even like game six at the Spectrum against Edmonton like yeah they won it home forced it like that’s the uh game today though that that was the last Flyers home game for lir recky ronic all the dudes that got bought out or traded after the uh because it’s the lockout the next year and then they go out and like reshape the team there’s a salary cap now they get forsberg they get Hatcher so they were like yeah man we got to say goodbye to like L Clair and ronic and all them so they all that that’s their last game at home for that’s insane like dudes we grew up with can you watch these games anywhere I think the NHL makes a very difficult watch old games do you have the DVD set cuz it’s on there no I I mean I this like I still have the top 10 DVDs they need to put out another one there just hasn’t been like anything to add since so4 this is one of those games where like if you’re a newer Flyers fan this is a game that you should watch to like really get an idea of what it was like to be a Flyers fan cuz like the and he’s not close to what Crosby is so there’s but like think about it who gets the hype the hoe it’s the Canadian guys because where is the hockey media based yeah in Canada yeah there was just question like you guys come up for the Hall of Fame and yeah we just saw uh pavell datsu get in and he’s he’s he very much a Hall of Famer but like oh I wonder if he’s going to get in because of the for him to reach the Star level nationally that we believe he has right now you know what though I don’t need him to be I don’t care I don’t need it he’s he’s ours like this is yeah exactly like this I feel like this happens a lot yeah like if you don’t want to Hype us up that’s fine well I mean like when the Flyers were the best team in the league for that brief moment before the world shut down they weren’t really getting any play whatsoever like point I’m I’m sure this is just me being a Flyers fan but I feel like the Flyers just don’t get which is odd because they’re one of the biggest franchises in the league like they should be hyped up to no end but they just aren’t and I’m cool with it like Underdog us that’s fine well to Mr Twister’s point in the comment section he he’s saying well Chicago always get the hype and like listen we all know how this league works the original six teams they get a lot of love that’s probably may be a factor it’s just insane like the way they have propped up Chicago it’s up until like they got all those dud on TV they their owner was too cheap to put them on television no one went to the gamees their G the Chicago Wolves outdrew the NHL team in town and their games you couldn’t find them on television I they’re a joke of an organization until they got propped up by oh yeah we finished fifth to last while the Flyers went 22 and 60 but we got Patrick Kane like like thanks cool and then they went on to win three cups and flyers locker room fell apart and here we are rebuilding yay but yeah I it’s [ __ ] [ __ ] the Blackhawks man uh all right correct let’s go to a question from Flyers Bolton on Twitter uh do the Flyers finish bottom five this year there’s some teams are definitely better than us that finished below us this year and I believe we overachieved I won’t be upset if they do we need high-end Talent uh that we need to go with michkov I think five is ambitious that’s the thing is yeah they’re not that bad the Devils the sabes the Senators those teams should be better this year and without Sean Walker and with the goalie question here for the Flyers and we don’t know with cs like as good as michkov might be like we just saw Conor Bard when rookie of the year and the Blackhawks still sucked ex you know um but bottom five like also the penguins are probably going to be worse you know like there are teams that might move back too I just don’t know how to break it to people that they’re just not that bad I like I they did they overachieve last year sure but they’re also just not that bad and that’s a good thing because it means that the young players making up this team are good which is good so like would it be cool to you know have a really good shot at winning the lottery next year sure will they be a lottery team I could see that happening but bottom five feels really ambitious so like the teams that finished below them in the standings last year anaheim’s gonna suck Buffalo New Jersey Calgary Seattle Ottawa Arizona Montreal Columbus Anaheim Chicago San Jose all right maybe I mean Columbus Ottawa sure uh New Jersey New Jersey should definitely be yeah other than that how many of these teams are going to be markedly better I don’t know like I guess Calgary they still have some players but they’re also moving away from guys and they’re just a disaster of an organization maybe Columbus gets their [ __ ] together but they’re 20 points worse than the Flyers like how much better are they even if they are considerably better than last year are they 10 15 games better than they no and also like do you want to see guys like forest or take a step back like do you want worse because that that’s what would have to happen internal development is what we’re really yes they going to have to it for so long they are really GNA have to go out and get some guys at some point uh whether it’s draft trade free agents whatever we badly need like Owen tippet to start scoring 35 goals a year we badly need Tyson Forster to become Mark Stone like we need Bobby Brink to be Claud Drew light on power play to we need these defensemen to be so much better if those things happen this team isn’t going to be I think they might be a bottom 10 team this year five is I think a little and here’s the thing if those things happen and they end up picking 15th again like I’m happy because that’s better than a lottery ticket like I I know that people just think that drafting is the only way but it’s not the only way your chances of getting a player in the draft better than Owen tippet or slim yeah like he went 10 overall in what turned out to be a pretty good draft like that’s the best you can hope for the players we have being good is good yes it’s good when are the C’s going to fall off dude that’s like my question like the last two years after oie gets the record they’re G to be just good enough that Obie is playing on a relevant team yes like I think they’re going to be exactly what they were which is a borderline playoff team right and so he’s scoring he breaks the scoring record in games that kind of matter like that’s what I think matters to them that’s why they went out and got plld like they’re just going to be good enough they need players good enough to make sure he can score some goals yes and once once he does that and then he retires I’m sure they’ll go into full rebuild mod that’s very much what I see happening with that team but they like they finished ahead of the Flyers last year if they finish two points behind the Flyers next season like are you g to be surprised they don’t have very many good players right like all right uh let’s get some more a lot of super chats BR okay just one yeah with the I was wondering how much time we’d have to leave for the super chats but um let’s go to flyed up thoughts on the Flyers bringing in uh yaroslav azarov from Nashville I think it’s interesting yeah um how old is he at this point uh this is if you don’t know he is the 22-year-old uh next one up basically there in the secession of goenda that’s what he is he’s highly regarded uh they drafted him in the first round in 2020 11th overall uh very highly regarded goal tending Prospect has been in the AHL the last couple of years had a brief stint in the NHL last year and it was [ __ ] phenomenal it was two games but he was really good uh but there was some talk that maybe like the Devils were in the market for the goalie they end up trading for Jacob markstrom and giving up way less but there was the rumor hey we’re willing to move 10 and if it was the 10th overall pick you figured oh yuss Soros well yeah obviously will do that they have the next guy up in askarov but then they extended Urus and they gave him a big extension goalies take a while they did do the thing with Renee and uh and Soros where they were there together maybe they’re going to do that I don’t know if I want to surrender assets for a goalie right now because they have such a pipeline I have no idea if any of these guys are going to pan out no but I’m invested in Aron I want to find out what the hell f doov is because this has been such a ridiculous Journey here yeah um Alexi kosov I don’t want to make his path to the NHL any blocked because I don’t even know what’s up with him and I want to see him at some point yeah uh Jaris we’ll see andag so young he’s supposed to be like if any of these guys I’ve said this before if any of these guys are that coken yeah it’s gonna be him right I just I think we’re set and I know we can never say that in with fires you know look at what we’ve seen happen at the position over the last couple of years and it’s not you know beyond hockey but Carter Hart like fedotov we saw arrested at the airport before we were able to bring him over like something can always go wrong with this position yeah uh but I just you gota see what we got when they so badly need other things like why it’s not going to be like oh yeah we’re we’re selling low on askarov like they’re going to hold him until someone bad needs him or they can just bring him up and say boom we replace yussi SAR seamlessly I just don’t see it making like when they so badly need to spend their capital on centers and top pair defensemen like I don’t know how you can allocate that money to a goalie when not just money assets to acquire him when you need those for other more pressing matters we talked about before if anything what you need in this room is a veteran guy you don’t need to find another youngster have another you have enough young we have nothing but Young goldendiamond all right if they could ever get a star forward they would be unstoppable no state tax yeah that’s what it is go goalies notoriously hate paying tax ha taxes they don’t fight for themselves you always have to fight for them [ __ ] goalies man uh all right this one from NHL flyers I wanted to get to this today and I’m glad we did great question how do you get your good number two and Bon into a good number four do you think the current decore could be a competent Stanley Cup caliber defense is York sanheim jdale Bon a good enough top four without a true number one top pairing Dem man yes um I think we just saw in Florida like they obviously like they have really good players Aaron eblad was a number one overall and he’s not even like their number one guy in terms of ice time I think you can do it without that guy but God damn it’s so much easier when you have the 30 minute dude and it’s just like yeah yeah we only have to figure out half the game half the game’s accounted for but I think I don’t know if do you think this top four I mean it really I guess you have to stretch your imagination of what you think Bon and Dale could be I know that’s thing I but I think Charlie’s brought this up on the show before like that number one 30 minute you know Alex petrangelo defenseman is not it kind of doesn’t fully exist anymore I feel like the defense is more like defense by committee like team defense more than then relying on one guy to be like the guy on defense like there’s no real chis those dudes are legit Superstars yeah yeah yeah like kale MCC Quinn Hughes Roman Yosi fo those two guys are not like the old model of number one defense now so I I I just kind of feel like you can make it happen with four really good defensemen kind of sharing more equally and in some ways it might be better than having to ride one guy 30 minutes a game cuz when that guy gets hurt you’re [ __ ] don’t have it anymore totally now you’re number five who plays two minutes now has to play 15 and he’s incapable so yeah maybe that is a better I just I don’t know if York sanheim jdale Bonk checks that box for me I’m I’m with you there and we’re gonna find out more this year about a lot of no idea that’s it’s so much so much about Jamie drale yeah he’s got to be something and hopefully he is I mean listen if yor can sanim take another that that has to make you feel a little bit better they took a big step last year I just like how much more like what maintain he’s 28 years he need get better he needs to put together two good years in a row that’s been like there’s a reason he’s won most improved twice and could have won it a third time it’s because he has bad years after good years and he needs to have consistency in the seasons he puts together I think more than anything but like like he’s 27 28 how much it’s not like he has anywhere to get better like he is what he is at this point he’s just got to be good but I guess cam York could he’s got a step but besides like offense what else you need from cam York I think the next part of his game is consistent offense yeah that’s to be what he wants to be like you need to put up some points you need to have point and I know there’s so much more to it than that but if you’re a top pair guy you factor in on the score sheet and I don’t think he did enough last year but he did develop other parts of his game and if that comes along they just so badly need someone to be on the power play hopefully it can be Dale but they just don’t have it was [ __ ] eigor zamula last year like and he was the best by far at it that’s not good they got a they got they got it they got if you ask the Flyers Hunter McDonald yeah oh [ __ ] Hunter McDonald’s Gonna Save Us I forgot yeah our yeah very a very good fourth liner who if necessary can play up to the third that’s about it but however like that’s not a knock on him you need those dudes you need those guys he’s very good at and when you have like a fifth round pick who turns into a good NHL that’s a win yes 100% like he score some the season before last and you think like all right 39 points but they had no centers he that’s just pure volume if you were playing him enough for him to score that much you have a very bad team yes as we saw and that’s that’s why they picked seventh right um right I just another step maybe him because I saw today I think Hathaway had media Avail availability to talk about his contract extension uh and he said he really liked playing with Ryan paling and I like that line a lot I think that is a fourth line that you can put out in the playoffs and they are not a liability nope if it’s paling hathway and Kates it’s a great fourth line set it and forget it yeah that is a fourth line like real good but I don’t want them playing any more than that that’s what I think of Noah Kates Ryan Palin going to be your topl line Center babe I mean there’s going to be times where Ryan paling and M mishkova are on the ice together prepare yourself awesome prepare yourself for this like that shit’s gonna happen paling Speedy ass feeding him the puck I’m into it let’s go MAF mitkov could do a lot
