Juan Soto says Ohtani would be one of the players he’d most want to play with in his MLB career

  1. I don’t think the dodgers will target him. His defense isn’t the greatest but his obp kinda makes up for that weak spot tbh. He’s going to want 35+ million a year and our payroll is already high and taylor’s contract is almost over and that’s just a dent of what soto wants.

  2. If he does like Ohtani and defers like 98% of his earnings he has a shot but Boras would murder him before he could utter the first syllable of the word deferral!

  3. Look, Shohei already bringing in money plus his over 90% deferred salary, might as well shoot over to the next CBT bracket and use that money on Soto.

  4. Soto isn’t stupid. He knows that the Dodgers will pay crazy 💰💰💰for his services. Soto is a generational hitter even though his OF defense is lacking.

  5. The more I hear other players talk about Ohtani, the more I think he might be pretty good at baseball.

  6. I’m glad that lots of MLB players respect Ohtani in the game because that means they’re focused on competing against him (the sportsmanship) and not just trying to intentional hurt players by throwing the ball at the body or start fights and create a toxic sports environment where it like drinking poison, nobody is playing their best but becomes total mind games and being careless.

  7. Shohei Ohtani at the 2023 MLB All-Star Game when asked who impresses him most: “Not just today but just watching guys overall I feel like Mookie Betts really impresses me. He’s so versatile, he can play the outfield, play the middle infield. I think he’s very, very talented.” 👀

  8. Hm…

I’m not necessarily a huge Soto guy, at least not at the price that the industry seems to think he’s worth. I think he’s a tremendous hitter, but not much other value.

Worth noting though that [his defense](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/juan-soto-665742) is actually grading out pretty well this year. Not incredible by any means, but he’s posting a positive fielding run value for the first time in his career, so props to him for improving in that regard.

If we did get him, I think the salt from our friends in SD would be pretty hilarious, and that might sway me from a “meh” to a “for”

  9. Other than Ohtani, Soto is the guy I’d be most willing to commit long term to if I ran a team. People overrate defense. The Dodgers can figure out the defense part. He’s an incredible hitter who should age very gracefully. Proven postseason stud too. Would complement Shohei and Mookie very well too. I think the Dodgers make a serious run at him in the winter

  10. I wonder if Aaron Judge and Juan Soto don’t get along as well as they appear to. When Judge got his 2022 MVP, he didn’t seem all that interested in acknowledging Ohtani. That’s the vibe I got anyway when listening to Ohtani talk about Judge and then listening to Judge talk about Ohtani (or more like avoided) during the MVP interviews.

  11. How did the Angels have such a shit team if everyone wants to play with Shohei?

  12. Cool story, who wouldn’t. He’s still gonna take several bags to sign though.
