Is this the best era of NHL defenseman?

  1. Lidstrom, Coffey, Bourque, Leech, Housley, Pronger, MacInnes, Niedermeyer, Murphy, Chelios, etc all played in the same era

  2. No. This is a great era for scoring defenseman, but overall I think the talent pool is weaker than other eras.

  3. I wouldn’t have put Bouchard over Werenski, Rielly, Doughty, Morrissey, or Carlson.

  4. Maybe pump the brakes on Bouchard for a hot minute before we throw him in with best in todays NhL

  5. Objectively I’d say no . Not sure if you’re a newer fan , like last 10 years but late 80s-early 00s was better. A lot of those greats like Maccinnis , pronger , lidstrom , Bourque , chelios , leetch , Coffey , Rob Blake , Stevens and niedermayer etc ..they all had staying power ..there’s some truly exceptional blue liners like karlsson and letang but others like klingberg had a couple of great years and faded . Imo guys like macavoy and fox haven’t done nearly enough to be in the Brian leetch and ray Bourque convos
