A “stupid, nonsense” quote—Reacting to anonymous Josh Allen criticism | NFL Live

not everyone is sold on Allen one veteran NFL executive had some pretty harsh words and some criticism of the Bills quarterback they called him one of the more overrated players in the NFL immense talent but he makes a lot of mistakes he’s underdeveloped at winning at the line of scrimmage tends to lock on to targets more of a thrower than Precision passer forces throws into traffic Mina what do you think of that assessment it’s stupid sorry I mean it just it is I mean that guy’s wrong the first I’ll start I guess with the kind of overarching sentiment which is that he’s overrated Josh Allen is the second best quarterback in the NFL I disagree with the earlier rankings that was the survey of the executives um I don’t think it’s particularly close to be quite Frank and nobody was wrong more wrong about Josh Allen coming out of the draft than draft than yours truly uh but I have seen a player who’s not only has an unbelievable armed Talent of course that’s what you lead with but has grown so much his work at the line of scrimmage I completely disagree with that his accuracy there are games where he’s displayed tremendous patient uh throwing underneath his command of the offense is tremendous uh at times he can turn the ball over but I don’t think it’s because of a mental issue so much as it is him maybe trusting his arm a little bit too much but you take that small amount of bad because it comes with so much good I haven’t even addressed what he brings on the ground which is I think why he’s second uh best quarterback in in the NFL on a down to- down basis he’s as efficient running the football actually more efficient than Lamar Jackson and finally he gives you availability he’s healthy he’s played so much for them so to me uh that’s just a nonsense quote but you know I guess you can find a nonsense quote about any quarterback if you ask enough people I agree with you I mean I think there’s I think you can almost pick apart every single part of the statement it’s not like you just disagree with one thing and and part of like just look at it this way in terms of playing in critical moments and stuff look he’s actually done that at times and then his his defense just didn’t follow through and so like like that’s actually happened in the past didn’t happen this past year but that’s happened in the past so so there’s that part of it uh the part of it too that Mina brings up as a runner which I think is key as well as the availability it is really hard to be an accurate passer when you’re also a runner and so what he’s done in that realm has been remarkable the thing I think I disagree with the most of of that comment is his command at the line of scrimmage there have been a stretch of times where he’s been as good as anybody at the line of scrimmage so yeah that that’s a that’s a bizarre statement for me it’s kind of like you you get a Ferrari and complain about the gas mileage like like everyone’s got flaws right but like the thing about Josh Allen is the good does outweigh the bad so much I I mean the bills are 68 and 35 when he starts like everyone’s got issues but he’s really good at overcoming them and helping you win games anyway so obviously it’s an outlier quote because otherwise he wouldn’t be ranked third but um you know quarterback evaluation subjective and and literally there’s only one person on the show that has had a Ferrari and Cella so Tim can you tell us do you make any complaints while driving your Ferrari yes there’s a lot of lot very good gas mileage you can tell what Dan doesn’t know he doesn’t know how good gas mileage is [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]

  1. The quote is not inaccurate but it's also overly harsh. Those describe his slight flaws, but they aren't as glaring as the quote implies. He's easily in tier 2 with Burrow and Lamar below Mahomes.

  2. stop giving anonymity to people who only use it as an excuse to talk down on people they don’t like. your life’s not in danger because you think josh allen sucks.

  3. There’s tier one, which is Mahomes. Then, there’s tier two, with Burrow, Allen and Lamar. I may have those three ordered differently than some (I think Lamar is better than Allen and I have my reasons), but I don’t think Allen doesn’t belong in that tier. Hasslebeck brings up how hard it is to be accurate when you’re expected to be such a runner. Yet, Lamar is expected to be WAY more of a runner than Allen, year after year, is still more accurate than Allen for his career, while throwing deeper down the field no less, and he has not shown Lamar that same grace in the past.

  4. The disrespect to the MVP tho. Allen can’t be the second best Qb by far when it’s a 2x MVP, 2x 1st team All pro, Unanimous MVP in Josh own draft class. And Lamar was voted the number 1 player in the entire league by the players in his second season.
    The disrespect is real.

  5. We have to take into consideration that although allen had some bad passes abd maybe more really bad luck sometimes. He was playing off arm injuires two seasons in a row. And the biggest thing he had was learning too throw again in a sense. Because when you have an injury you learn to compensate for them. Then unlearn these bad behavoirs and go back to normal throwing again. So with him remapping his throws again like 2020. I would expect another monster season.
