CP3 or Kawhi? Wemby of the field? πŸ” NBA Today plays THIS or THAT! + Klay Thompson’s GSW departure

it’s Monday and there’s plenty going on around the basketball world so let’s play a little bit of this and a little bit of that espn.com is ranking the top 100 professional athletes since 2000 and this this morning they released the players 100 to 76 two NBA players were listed in the group Chris Paul is ranked number 83 while kawh Leonard is two spots behind him at number 85 so Ramona you going with the Rings or the stats I think I’m going with the Point God you know this is a tough call here they’re they’re kind of even 83 and 85 is like pretty pretty even but Chris Paul is the best point guard in the game for two decades yeah and and it’s hard to argue with two finals MVPs and and all the Defensive Player of the Year Awards but two championships two I know it’s hard it’s is really close you know you know what it is but I just think two decades of of being the best player at your position gets you some credit this is the thing both of them have dealt with injuries not as much as Kaw Chris has not but but if you look at this I Chris is fine with his career but I guarantee you look at some of those things on that list like Chris wants what’s on kawai’s list I don’t think Kawai wants anything that’s on Chris’s list oh yeah that’s my opinion exactly uh and we know that Chris Paul will be a San Antonio Spur next season um so let’s move on and check in with his new teammate Victor wanyama he’s the betting favorite according to ESPN bet to win defensive player of the year the last Spurs player to win the award was of course kawh Leonard winning back to back in 15 and 2016 so Richard you taking Victor or the field for defensive play I’m taking the field because it’s all going to hinge on if you can have double the blocks as anybody if your team is in the bottom third of the league you can’t give a I’m a big you win you get rewarded right if your team is where they were are in that same range even if he’s a great defensive player to me at the end of the day you have to be successful that’s where Rudy has that’s where Kawai was that’s where Draymond was so why would we change it based off of stats not going to do that that award is going to be named after him when he gets on play he is going to win that award almost every single year that he plays you want to pump the brakes um sorry we’ve seen so many great players careers do this I am optimistic I’m optimistic too but I also don’t want to put this like we’re going to name a an award after person let’s he going to win it every year I mean you’re usually turning it up because you are the director of amb that’s what I’m saying I’m being respectful to the guy at the end of the day maybe it’s so you’re saying that their team is going to make the postseason you can’t give a defensive player of the year to somebody that hasn’t made the postseason changes every game he’s in it’s a regular season a what are you talking about yes it’s a regular season award and if at the end of the regular season you’re not in the postseason you’re in the lottery it’s hard to give that award let’s put a priority on winning not stats this is not very you know director of ambian fired up you it’s the it’s a red velvet the inseason tournament groups were revealed on Friday by that man and and take a look at the group of death West Group C all five teams could make the playoffs in the west next season including the Mavericks and warriors this could be the first time clay returns to the Bay Area last night I spoke with Draymond Green about Clay’s departure to Dallas here’s what he had to say it’s a classic tale of uh suppressing your emotions right now I haven’t allowed myself to really process it I don’t want to I feel like I’ll face it when I have to face it uh but nonetheless I’m happy for clay um happy he get the opportunity to play basketball at a high level and get get back the feeling like clay so I’m looking forward to that to him I think he going to have a really big year and he going to show people he still got a lot left in the tank all right so Ramona we we we all know how it went down between the Warriors and Clay do you feel like the Warriors did right or wrong by Clay I think I think it ended the way it was supposed to end ultimately I mean look you can go back and reverse engineer how they got there whether if they would offered him a contract extension after this moment after they won in 2022 uh if they would have offered Draymond and clay and all the older vets including Steve Kerr and Bob Myers if they all would have just locked everyone up right that summer after you win a championship I think history does play out very differently for the Warriors instead they prioritized some of the younger guys with Wiggins and pool so changes things but I think what draymont is saying is right he’s obviously going to be competitive against him but they they all knew how unhappy clay was they know I mean Klay was miserable the last couple years you could you could see it in his performance gental I’m happy that Clay is in a happier place you wish it would have ended a little bit better again Tony Parker left there’s been other guys like that have left places that they were just at that’s fine it wasn’t this big drama when San Antonio says hey we’re going a different direction and then that was fine but this felt like it was building for multiple years that’s what’s unfortunate because we revered the Golden State Warriors in that in that dynasty all right let’s move on like play uh did you guys see cross over Charlotte Hornet guard Nick Smith Jr put his defender on Skate oh my goodness Flo SE no you know what it’s very humid in that big and then okay is it better than Caitlyn Clark putting her defender on the floor Caitlin C’s been on a heater I don’t know he like slid into third there but this one right here they’re oh they cross yeah I’m just glad somebody make him touch her Caitlyn okay Nick yeah oh that’s tough point and they both knocked down the shot that’s the only thing that’s most important I don’t care about the crossover you don’t finish it sticking with uh summer Hoops um arguably the two best dunks of the summer went down this weekend in Las Vegas 11th overall pick mat oh nope that’s zier Smith first Smith this one this is come on which better oh that one chest the chest look him in his eye whoever tried to come on on Matas they came late but chest to chest Matas got knocked down and still finished yeah yeah that great but that guy came in last look look he’s looking at him you know what though looking at his I had that Bulls game last [Music] [Applause] night NBA on me is

On NBA Today, Richard Jefferson, Ramona Shelburne and Cassidy Hubbarth debate between taking Chris Paul over Kawhi Leonard and Victor Wembanyama’s defense before speaking on Klay Thompson’s move to the Dallas Mavericks.

  1. Disagreed with Jefferson on Wemby. In Wemby case,You can’t fake hustle on defense not padding his stats from it.And this past season, he played limited minutes restriction for about 3/4 of the season and still put up the def stats of blocks and steals plus not mentioning how many missed shot from other player. He played great defenses on the worst teams and on the best teams. I’m the MJ’s era Bulls fan and neutral position on the Spurs.

  2. The boy had 3on1 and even 4on1 situations where defenders where scared of going at him, 1,2 steals and 3,6 blocks in less then 30 minutes on the court, stop blabering.

  3. I agree winning is key you need to win. All star game selection if you on a losing team 11-12 is only spot you could make for me
