Did the Detroit Pistons Find a HIDDEN GEM?

Did the Detroit Pistons Find a HIDDEN GEM?

we got to talk about Detroit Piston rookies were in action this weekend Ron Holland Bobby clitman and Bobby clitman listen when we first drafted him I totally understand second we did it live on the show we really liked the pick and it it felt gross it felt nasty cuz like it’s a second round pick it’s Australia and a weak draft and you know he’s from Australia he kind of looked like what we what we got and matter of fact a little bit better passing than I expected too that’s key attribute of a big man in today’s NBA at the very least one that could pass for you and obviously you got the strap yeah can can can I can I just gush over this real quick can I can I over can I overreact I’m going to I’m going to play some I’m going to play some highlights and I I want you guys to overreact with me and indulge in this because what I saw was phenomenal in this game so here’s shout out Jack Kelly who put together this compilation of highlights for for Bobby in his first Summer League game so as you as you see here just good unselfish playmaking nice simple pass simple read but it was that’s what blew me away was his feel for the game like watch some of these clips here he he has such a great feel for the game he plays with the freedom he plays with the freedom cut to basket there for a nice little layup and with his athleticism he can finish well he can finish well he didn’t finish that well in in um in Europe but he’s been playing here here he pulls into a smooth dribble three just easy money the shot look looked good but and boom goes D again it was it was the playmaking that really really stood out to me if you play with that level of confidence if that level of creativity that he played with there’s going to be a pass coming up here I believe it’s this I believe it’s his very next play and he just right there great connecting pass like he showed me a lot of Nick Batum comps which is funny because I watched an interview after this and he actually said that was somebody that really compared himself to yeah was in there too what’s that oddly enough Tobias was in there too yeah Tobias is in there too so you know I don’t know if he’s going to be quite the score that Tobias is but he definitely seems to be the connector piece that that uh that Nick Batum is but overall this guy this guy’s phenomenal I mean you he had a one-handed pass where he just whipped it just absolutely whipped it like nobody comes into their summer league debut game as a second round draft pick and plays with that level of confidence and and decision maker so the the play making really really stood out even though the numbers weren’t good for him but to come into this situation he just showed a great feel for the game and that’s going to be a difference between him being just somebody that’s come that fights and scratches his way into the rotation and being a key rotational piece on a very good team what grade you given it this performance I mean considering where he was second round in a weak draft class that’s an a performance like like 40% from three and yeah you can’t beat that I’d give it a B+ a minus it was a good performance uh and you know what they say uh you know floor seats crypto I got my tool in fourth quarter young why the [ __ ] puman true just it’s facts but no you’re right his shooting was as advertised he looked very fluid very very comfortable with his jump shots both off the dribble and catch- up spot up opportunities on the outside deep threes but the the thing that stood out to me was the passing it was the big to Big passing he looked very comfortable making touch passes uh from himself to the I can’t remember the center’s name but he played pretty well too um Bobby looked good out there he looked very good know it’s Bobby [ __ ] he catching bodies [ __ ] and I was excited to see him make these kind of passes because you’re going to need that if you are a big on this team they’re going to want to move the ball around a lot more especially with the guys you’re going to have coming in whether it be Isaiah Stewart or or Jaylen durren or Paul Reed these are guys that are active around the bucket and and if if you’re getting looks at you because of your shooting prowess you’re going to be able to push the ball around with some guys for some open opportunities so I was excited to see that he he looked damn good passing the ball and facilitating from the low block so I was impressed with that for sure that was a good now a first round pick Ron Holland started off the attributes you’d like to see attributes we promised first and foremost actually I want to apologize to you spinny and Brian Keith I believe it is out there on Twitter where I was having that back and forth with I think that he could play power forward you looked a lot smaller out there yeah once you actually got him out there yeah he’s a win yeah it’s for sure probably gonna play a win unless he grows he’s young enough for that to happen but I was definitely wrong about a size actually Seena out there you look it up the same way they did was with Kade when Kade was like drafted he was like the 68 point guard he get series 66 same situation with Ron Holland but uh you saw the athleticism however that second half of the game everything kind of just uh delayed there at one point he got blocked three straight times in a row by some guy I’ve never even heard of some what’s your grade for Ron Holland’s performance I would say uh a C flat C cuz the first half was great he he looked great in the first half he had some nice uh nice finishes around the bucket got uh got into the lane drawing fouls knocked down some free throws had a nice mid-range jumper and you like you said you saw the athleticism and the speed in the open floor in the second half I don’t know I feel like he was trying a little too hard he was trying to force the issue a little too much rather than letting the game come to him and trusting in his teammates so we’ll see what happens tonight but I I expect him to bounce back he did have an opportunity to absolutely posterize somebody and and just missed just missed but you know drew the foul and he got to the line a lot I like to see that there were some opportunities where his teammates missed him where he was streaking down the floor ahead of the pack and the pass just wasn’t there that happened a couple times where he would have gotten some nice you know wide open fast break dunks which definitely would have helped his confidence but uh I’m not I’m not going to overanalyze any any summer league performance let’s see let him get settled let him let him get the flow of the game get used to his teammates a little bit more and I’m sure he’ll he’ll improve as the summer league progresses yeah he finished with the team High 15 points he did show up on the defensive end like that part was as advertised that good two blocks I a couple steals maybe statisically one Ste okay two Steals and you you saw him there like I guess being an issue or just very bothersome for some people even like Fast Break opportunities where you might have a stat to run away with after it but as one steel yeah but Ste but there was still somewhere he was effective enough where it caused the turnover may have not got the stack for it he was there defensively it’s offensively but this is what he was coming in like we knew he was this type of project the kids he’s 18 or 19 18 19 18 18 18 we knew he was going to be a project so I’m not like tripping over it but I mean him getting blocked those three times in a row was kind of that is the one part I I guess I didn’t like but again again both of these prospects have a similar problem and that they’re that they really need to grow and they need to they need to grow as as NBA bodies like like Bobby it you know looked awesome he looked fluid but he’s also very skinny and like he’s not going to be able to use those same moves that he was using in this game against the next level and Ron Holland the the the same thing and another thing too that that we talked about specifically when we got into the three-point and really breaking that part of Ron Hall’s game down is a lot of it was self-creation and you got to assume that again at the next level he’s not not being asked to do that at least at this point in his career he’s going to be looked at as you know stand in the corner for threes and cut when when when you have a good read on on on making it to the basket and making a play like that’s going to be what he’s going to do so you’re hoping that some of these you know some of this five for 15 really turns to better generated shots because of Kate cenh him and at the end of the day too I think this guy a good thing is that I don’t expect either of these guys to be key rotation pieces this year I I really don’t and I think that’s a good thing that you have a fifth pick that you can allow him to although he’s young grow into his role rather than force him to be you know a starter day one that’s what I think the previous piston regime did and it and it failed miserably when you throw guys like sadique Bay and der Ro Z over their head you just you you just it’s sink or swim and now he Ron how is going to be in a much better situation than that Caleb impressed by Clint I think he’s going to be able to grow a lot um from a player that he says he Compares himself to in Tobias Harris um he’s a way better shooter than I thought is I I honestly didn’t know much about him when we draft I actually didn’t know anything about him when we drafted him but um he looks long he’s able to shoot um and like like Spenny said I think his I think his playmaking was better than expected um when it comes to Ron Holland I mean I’m not going to overreact about about this performance I mean it’s summer league it’s his first start um like Chris said it’s going to be it’s hopefully we could turn those six for 15s or whatever he was to like seven for 11s when he’s playing with Kate Cunningham and he’s going to be able to you know cut and get open and there was a couple times I thought that Ron Holland was wide open yes and they didn’t give him the ball Marcus Sasser or um Jenkins there was a couple times that they had the ball and they didn’t you know they didn’t um they didn’t hit Ron Holland but I’m not going to overreact here um I think I think he’s going to be a good player I will say he does play hard and you know was going for loose balls he was going for every rebound and that’s something I like to see out of a 18 19y old kid and you mentioned the name Rook Jenkins I like that kid he looked good I like that kid a lot I hope uh hope may he makes the team honest with you and and I’ll say this really quickly if you come out of this draft with projecting years down the line a starting caliber wing and a rotational Wing that is a home run draft especially for your first draft and you just taking the job weeks before like this guy remember this guy has history of drafting good wings so I think we can kind of maybe buy in a little earlier than than you normally would just because of his history but again if you get a starting caliber wing and a rotational Wing out of this draft this draft is a home run so you’re saying trean langon just drafted as Kawhi Leonard and Boris di I mean nobody’s Boris di come on actually Boris di had Boris was a problem I love Boris di Boris di was dope yeah uh but yeah I agree with you Chris both of these guys end up being good players for the Pistons for a while yeah and it’s a good start like I said I’m not GNA take too much or too little from from any singular Summer League game but you liked what you saw out of a lot of them Nick and for the other people taking a lot about somebody’s uh named mat’s Summer League game he went four for 15 in his first game so he shot like [ __ ] as well so let’s just calm let’s hit the brakes on everything here um Holland’s going to be just fine I think he needs the ball in space a little earlier like we alluded to his teammates getting him the ball quicker and I think he’s going to be just fine if he’s not in such congested Lanes where it feels like he wasn’t able to finish like we were able to see um on some video going into this but I’m excited for this game that one game was the second game then the 28 point game whatever yeah you had like couple threes I was going to post a picture of Henry ellenson under all the quotes about that and remember maybe treia knows something cuz he signed this second round pick to 4 years this the first year you could do that so you know he showed a tremendous amount of Faith offering him a 4-year contract as his Prospect so maybe he’s seen something that that we didn’t see [Music]

  1. I commented everywhere ten minutes after drafting him, that this was officially my favorite player. He has that Durant long skinny body and can use it on offense and defense. Just passes the eye test.
