LA KINGS MAKE A FANTASTIC MOVE: QUINTON BYFIELD SIGNED TO A 5-YEAR EXTENSION

[Applause] okay this is it man this is the Austin Matthews contract strategy bringing itself back up again but honestly I feel like this is a really good example of where it could work of where this contract structure feels the most appropriate and where it doesn’t feel like the guy is just trying to maximize and Penny pinch every possible dollar that he’ll be able to make sure it’s kind of a betting on yourself move in a way but they’re also so is a lot of earning potential into the future the LA Kings have done a fantastic move in signing forward Quinton Byfield to a 5-year extension worth an aav of $6.25 million a year this goes on till 2028 2029 and right away you know the reception everybody replying this is a big big dub for both sides honestly Byfield gets 31 1.25 million in Security Plus a midterm deal to cash in bigger next time around it’s an intriguing deal for both sides 8 years would have been quite expensive and this is where I say that it’s a really good deal for LA because honestly when you talk about some of these younger guys and players who have signed the bridge deal in the past it’s honestly getting a little bit less common nowadays to see the bridge deal actually have Bridge deal kind of money I think the Toronto Maple Le really screwed up the rest of the NHL when it comes to that because their Bridge deals were 11 10.9 like really high dollar amounts that could have been Justified on 8-year deals but the players absolutely pinched the pennies to their chests and wanted to get the most out of them QB nah he’s not doing that $6.25 million a year is pretty fair value till 2028 2029 till he’s going to be 27 years old for a guy who just put up 55 points in 80 games played in 2023 2024 20 goals 35 assists a real breakout season for QB 55 he had four points in five games in the playoffs and he has not looked back the thing about Byfield that I’ll note is his production and his growth they’ve always always gone up as his time in whatever league has gone on in the OHL he started out as a point per game guy and then he was near a double Point per game and then he went to the AHL 20 points 32 games played over there he kind of had a little bit of a setback in 2122 but the year after guess what point per game guy in the AHL 22 points in 53 NHL games and then this season he had the 55o season in 80 games QB 55 was never going to be an immediate right away answer to everything LA Kings hockey but he always had the potential to grow into that and for a guy who’s as big as he is 6’5 216 who has the ballerina like feet that he’s got and the stick handling and a phone booth quality that he has too this was always going to be a player who took time and now he’s giving himself Time 5 years to be exact to really max out as that potential 80 90 100 Point even caliber player if QB has a 70 point season this upcoming year and then he has 80 points in 2025 2026 and then he has 100 points in 2026 2027 and he stays that good for the 3 years after that year then okay he can cash in in 2029 he’ll get that huge 8-year extension he’ll get that huge $13 million aav salary imagine how high the cap is going to be at that point but for now just to settle and say okay I’m good with 6.25 I mean I had 55 points in 80 games played it’s not like I’m not going to get any better but I just want to stick around and the Kings get themselves a super valuable asset for a dollar amount that is very reasonable this is a really big win-win all around honestly QB could have gotten a lot more money if he had gone for a higher term even if he wanted to aim for let’s say 7 million bucks I feel like he could have gotten that if he really squeezed his I don’t know what word comes after in that simile but either way there was the possibility for bfield to get a lot more money but to see this go down as the dollar amount 6.25 over the next 5 years that is absolutely awesome so let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about the the LA Kings making a fantastic move signing Quinton Byfield to a 5-year extension worth 6.25 million I hope you enjoyed this vsh AR r99 and bye

  1. Great contract for both sides. Kings get more money to play with and also have their future star locked up long term to mentor under Kopitar until he is ready for the top center line. Wondering if they are gonna pursue someone like Necas still, or if they think they only need a couple more bottom players to complete their roster. They're missing a good right-handed shot, unless Laferierre steps up into a PP1/PP2 role.
