JK Scott sets a Chargers franchise record with an 83 yard punt. This ball hangs for 4.8 seconds traveling 64 yards before it bounces. A spectacular punt!

  1. So glad that our special teams is not changing much in the Harbaugh regime!

  2. after being a diehard fan for close to 2 decades of highs and LOWS I just have to now say: WHO GOT IT BETTER THAN US?

  3. Honest question: how is punting yardage calculated?

Because the LOS was the 17, so an 83 yard punt is the rest of the field (minus end zones), which the ball does travel. But it’s a touchback, so it ends up at the 20 for a net 63-yard punt.

Do they really not consider the net punt yardage? Is net only taken into consideration if there is a return?

It seems odd to say “63 yard punt,” because it definitely went further in bounds without being touched, but it seems odd to say “83 yard punt,” because the opposing team got the ball 63 yards away from where the Chargers were when they decided to punt.

I’m also extremely tired so I’m sorry if this is a dumb question. Someone please help. 😅

  4. Glad JK had a good punt but he is not the weapon that Scifres (or bennet) was. Not even close.
