Alonso doesn’t want to get traded, says he’s ‘super happy to be a Met’

  1. I love Alonso. I’ve got his jersey, which my wife bought me late in his rookie season. I don’t want to see him leave. But he turned down seven years at $22.6 million, which was a totally reasonable extension offer for the player that he is and will be through his age 35 season. Boras has given him totally unrealistic expectations, like he does for every single one of his clients. If he can get a team to give Alonso $30 million a season for five to seven years, then more power to him, I guess. Who is going to pay that, though? I don’t see Stearns and Cohen bidding against themselves like the Wilpons used to do. The Dodgers already have Freddie Freeman. What other team is going to throw around that sort of money now for an adequately defensive first baseman who will eventually be converted to a DH, especially with Alonso having a down year so far in 2024?

  2. I am super critical of Alonso this season because he is not having an Alonso-like season.

**However…** I really hope he turns it around – not that he’s doing horrible, but he has done much better and I know he’s capable of far more. I hope gets closer to where he was a couple years ago because I love having him as a Met and would be very sad if he left.

  3. Yeah sure, NOW he wants to stay.

He’s just realizing that he’s having a horrible year and knows that nobody else is going to give him the contract he wanted. So he’s settling for whatever he can get from Cohen

  4. Alonso needs to have a Cespedes-tier run deep into the playoffs for us in the second half or he’s prob gonna end up on some team that’s desperate enough to overspend on a slugger.

  5. 9/180

    20 AAV.

By the end of the contract, 20 million will be a carton of eggs because of inflation .
