fantastic we’ve only got nine days until the first workout out of Grand Park for the Indianapolis Colts we’re going to go through some of the rankings we’re going to go through the Texans the Jaguars the Titans who are they what are they can the Colts beat them can the Colts finish on top of those three teams in order to win their first AFC South Championship since 2014 it’s been a while and the AFC South hasn’t been altogether that good does that mean for the Indianapolis Colts well I think we all know what it means for the Indianapolis Colts we’re going to talk uh a little bit about the Pacers they’ve got a game tonight in the summer league do we really care about summer league basketball maybe we should in some limited ways winning and losing not all that important but watching guys like Johnny Fury watching guys like jerus Walker important to the future of this team because those are the building blocks of the future of this team yeah the Pacers Are Young but they got holes to fill and now maybe they got some people to fill them with so we’re going to watch that game with some interest tonight we’re going to talk about the Home Run Derby my God could Major League Baseball be worse at putting together a decent show all they are supposed to do on that night before the All-Star Game allstar game tonight and during the allstar game is put on a good show right be interesting be the Home Run dur Derby all it’s supposed to do is entertain people and it utterly failed at entertain PE entertaining people how in the hell could that possibly be and we’ll talk also about Mark Herman he’s going to be back in the broadcast Booth used to be the Colts radio analyst now he’s going to Purdue he’s going to be the Purdue radio analyst for the football program up there today they convene at Grand Park they get their physicals all of that stuff they report for Camp then in nine days they get to work and that work’s going to be really interesting we’re going to watch two things during all that work as we’ve said we watch the dline o line one-on-one matchups and we watched the quarterbacks and safeties go up against the wide receivers now it it watching the Colts get ready to play as they practice against the Colts you don’t really know whether let’s say for instance the the wide receivers get over on the DBS you don’t know whether that’s because the wide receivers are great or the DBS suck and vice versa if the DBS get over on the wide receivers is it that the secondary is great or that the wide receivers suck we got to figure that out and we will figure that out with a couple of joint practices uh the first of which there’ll be two against the Cardinals prior to the Cardinals visit to Lucas Oil Stadium and then there is a joint practice down in Cincinnati before the Colts and the Bengals play in the uh preseason finale let’s talk about the rivals in the AFC South and where they kind of rank because as we look through this compendium of great information about the 2024 season that Warren sharp has put together Warren sharp awesome just Google Warren sharp hey you want help with uh investing Sports investing and that’s what it is when he use Warren Sharp’s um kind of his his guidance you wind up winning historically winning um but let’s talk about what he says uh the Texans are going to be he’s got a prediction of N9 and a half wins for the Texans the Achilles heel for the Texans is uh you know what running into loaded boxes they were um predictable in their scheming and early in uh in in Downs they ran the ball a lot teams figured this out they loaded the box and the Texans continued to run it and they didn’t run it so very well uh the key to beating the Texans stopping them offense Le is to pressure CJ strout CJ strout is a guy who without pressure 9.2 yards per attempt last season 22d TD or 20 TDS 69% completion rate if you don’t pressure CJ Stout he will be a placement artist he will put the ball on time and on target to the receiver that is the most open he is really good when not pressured as a lot of quarterbacks are but the disparity between him being pressured and him being not pressured very very significant their offensive line compared to the Colts ranked 14 Colts ranked eighth the front seven ranked 17th the Colts ranked 10th quarterback ranked fifth Colts ranked 23rd and then wide receivers uh ranked fifth when you got Stefan Diggs and Nico Collins what are you going to be you’re not going to be outside the top five uh the Colts ranked 27th and what you’ll see like quarterback ranked fifth wide receiver ranked fifth good quarterback good receivers that’s what good receivers good quarterback I’m not sure which comes first the quarterback or the receiver but those rankings are uh strikingly similar from Team to team to team to team which you would guess uh the Jaguars they project to win eight and a half uh games they turn it over and they turn it over a lot and that’s their Achilles deal the Colts if they want to beat the Jaguars you’ve got to win the turnover disparity right the turnover battle is key for the Colts more than any other team in the NFL last year when they won the turnover battle the Colts were 7-0 when they lost it they were 0 and six and when their neither team had an advantage they tied in the turnover game the Colts were two and2 you win the turnover battle you win games and the Jacksonville Jaguars turn turn the ball over a lot they have early scheduling challenges that could dig themselves a hole we talk about that for the Colts first 12 games for the Colts really really tough then the last five not altogether that tough although three are on the road for the Jaguars it’s tough early on and they’ve got Road games at Miami Buffalo and Houston in the first month that’s tough their offensive line ranked 23rd their front seven sixth that’s where they got an advantage over the Colts and that’s the only place the only team at the at in the trenches on either side that’s got an advantage over the Colts the Colts are built from the inside out anybody who’s listened to Chris Ballard for 15 seconds over the last seven and a half years understands that the Colts have built themselves purposefully from the inside out they want a great offensive line they want a great defensive line they want depth at both spots in the AFC South like I said the Jaguars defensive front that defensive front seven that is the only team in the AFC South with a positional advantage in the trenches over the Colts hopefully that’s a big deal we’re going to talk about that in the middle in a minute the Titans they’re projected to win 6 and2 a Derrick Henry he’s gone uh you know what they’re going to have to throw more that means that will Lis is going to be exposed more the schedule is brutal for the Texans Levis is inaccurate far too often which you saw when he played at Kentucky and you knew that that was the thing that was going to drag him down in the draft he wasn’t going to be taken in the top 10 of the draft he fell outside the first round because his accuracy is not consistently good their offensive line Titans 30th uh in pressure rate allowed their offensive line overall 26 the front seven 30th the quarterback 31st and the wide receivers 11th that’s the one place where the wide receivers and the quarterback they really don’t syn up and that’s in large part because the Titans went out into free agency and they brought some guys in they upgraded their receiver room in free agency like I said the Colts offensive line ranked eight the front seven is ranked 10th quarterback 23rd wide receivers 22nd the quality of the lines is the source of optimism for this team if that offensive line plays really really well it stands to reason they’re going to protect Anthony Richardson at a high level give him time to throw and throw accurately on the other side the defensive front where they augmented what they already had and they’re bringing everybody back they bring in Leu latu uh defensive Edge he 15th overall pick the first defensive pick in the draft he is being brought in to put more pressure on quarterbacks if the Colts can get more pressure on the quarterbacks they’re going to win that battle more often than not they’re going to force turnovers they’re going to force teams behind the sticks a little bit with sacks that’s what they got to do it this is really this season is a referendum on Chris Ballard and his absolute in cability in building from the inside out if the Colts are going to win they’re going to win because of their interior play if the Colts don’t win it’s an absolute uh indictment of Chris Ballard and his methodology in building that roster here we go sport says Marvin Harrison Jr big difference uh or same Cardinals I think as a rookie he’s going to be really good and he’s going to give Kyler Murray a Target to throw to that Kyler Murray hadn’t had and and so I think that that’s going to be he’s going to get all the opportunities he needs to shine in Arizona but I think as a rookie you know what we’re going to see which rookies really flourish and which rookies suffer a little bit uh that first year for receivers always a little bit tough I think Marvin Harrison is going to make jumps throughout this rookie year and we’re going to see it at Grand Park when he comes to train uh for the Cardinals with the Colts against the Colts that’s going to be really really interesting and and that’s going to be a terrific test during that joint practice for the secondary of the Colts we’re going to see uh is Dallas flowers going to be ready can Juju Bren cover Marvin Harrison Jr can Jaylen Jones cover Marvin Harrison Jr Nick cross on the back end of free safety Rodney Thomas uh and you got Julian Blackman as well it’s going to be a hell of a test for the Colts and it’s going to be way worth watching those are going to be awesome uh to get uh a real good look at and the second one if you got to pick one to go to go to the second things get chippy during the second uh tiar Hernandez he won the Home Run Derby 1413 in the finals he’s a 31-year-old journeyman he he’s played for the uh Jays for the Mariners for the Astros and now the Dodgers who the hell cares and the format absolutely ridiculous Major League Baseball Rob Manfred is the commissioner of Major League Baseball cannot put together a a decent set of protocols in order for baseball events to be interesting and that’s a real shame I think what what major league baseball has done by uh hiring a trained Pitbull negotiator as a commissioner is allowed baseball to get really really Wayward and and really really wacky and I know ownership groups are still making money but baseball can be so much better than it is and in no place was that more on display than last night with a home run derby a group of seven-year-olds could design design a more interesting event than occurred last night in the Home Run Derby I just didn’t care uh T Higgins he’s going to play for the franchise tag hamstring and Rib injuries limited him to 12 games last year 42 catches 650 56 yards he’s going to get paid 21.8 million if he finishes the season healthy he’s got a chance to make a whole lot of money if he gets hurt again if that hamstring nags then he’s going to have problems making a whole bunch of money I think the Colts got the right guy and Michael Pitman JR we’ve kind of discussed that t Higgins because they were on back-to-back uh picks they went Higgins to the Bengals and then Pitman to the Colts Pitman I think at this point I I’m happy with Michael Pitman Jr Pacers and the Suns today 4:00 Johnny Fury jarus Walker those are going to be the guys to watch I think Fury he surprised me with his defense the other day I’m going to watch tonight 8:00 we’ll see what he looks like and Mike Herman or Mark Herman is going to be the new radio analyst for Purdue football he worked with Bob Lamy
