Everything That Goes Into Opening An NFL Facility | LA Chargers

[Music] well they get the ball out next to us is Sofi and now Chargers HQ is just a short drive away in elund the team breaking ground on a new 14 Acre Site the pictures look absolutely amazing this facility will feature three practice fields and a state-of-the-art 150,000 s ft complex I really started thinking about the move itself I mean it doesn’t really hit you until you really see the building up and built so about a year ago is when we topped out we have the last piece of Steel go up and you really start framing the walls inside and you start just thinking oh man this is really happening we got to start really thinking about what’s the next phase what’s the next process when it comes to football there’s no offseason really there’s no time when they actually take a break so when are you supposed to move them when supposed to shut down their video and move it up here when are you supposed to take the field crew from one set of fields and bring them to the other set of fields you can’t you have to have everything duplicated that in in of itself is logistical challenge I can tell you it’s the most complex move I’ve ever been a part of myself right most of the time in in my past at least I’ve I’ve moved offices you know moving people’s belongings printers copier furniture that sort of thing here we have weights football equipments pieces for PR team marketing all of that so there’s a little bit of everything we’re going to move and assemble so this is all going okay let me see what area we want to start hitting next going to this region what what uh that’s green then okay we’ll put a Green Dot on it put the Green Dot on baby let’s go we started with move discussions about mid to late last year even though we knew that we weren’t going to do the move until now late May June of this year but you had to start those discussions early on because again you have to plan where each of those pieces are going into with the new building and even further back that actually starts at the start of design because you have to plan for the amount of stuff that we have shoulder pads you know are stored One Way helmets are stored another way and really start to get with your mover you know months in advance so you know which pieces to move when and making sure everything’s here and everything’s in the in its right place we designed the move around we phased it so phase one was the business operations and we started moving the actual materials from people’s staff and desks and business needs across the board starting on Friday the 14th I think it’s easiest to think about people who work in an office if you just think about moving your office as it relates to kind of moving your apartment so you might think for your apartment you have a pod or two pods for just our office staff which is about 150 people we had to coordinate three truckloads each day over three days for one set we’ve had to do that three times that same week on Saturday morning when we think about equipment their very first day of bringing things in we had seven trucks scheduled starting at 7:00 in the morning every 45 minutes it’s just [Music] massive just in uh staff unloading we’re looking at about 40 total it takes about you know a good hour hour and a half to unload per truck so one one truck’s loading up the other one’s leaving and we’re just shuttling back and forth between the two locations on the 28th we have a weit room coming over so that’ll be a number of trucks on the tone by the end of it I think we’ll be certainly over north of of the 20 truck loads probably getting closer to the 30 [Music] the complexity comes in you know taking what we have and fitting it into a whole new facility coordinating all that with our training staff strength coach and equipment manager when you walk into the space I want it to feel open I want it to feel just the magnitude of this space it’s an an incredible space Oh that’s exactly what I’m thinking of for towels in there tape is supposed to be right here up on this wall yeah this wall to have them come from their respective places and give us input on how we could possibly make it better possibly help them be more successful it was amazing you got a better mess BR nobody nobody nobody nobody man getting to know these larges in Life personalities has been has been fun it’s been actually very easy everybody’s just been very excited seeing how new this is there’s no anxiety about it you get the best of both worlds there’s a level of familiarity with what we do from a development standpoint from a training standpoint but now you do it in a space like this which that just hits different those discussions with Coach Herbert with Marco with Chris those were held from the very beginning right up until now I mean we’re we’re making some minor adjustments here and there as we move in it’s key to stay in communication with those leaders right within those different groups to make sure we’re meeting their needs their requirements right the last thing we want as an operations team is for them to have to worry about right where things go and whether things are going to fit and do we have enough storage as we want them focused on getting folks ready to [Music] play my rle is changes it feels like weekly it’s just depends on what’s the next project cuz as soon as this Project’s done we’ve got another one so that’s the beauty of construction you finish one it’s on to the new one going to have a lot of pride a lot of uh I think some of it has hit now but it continues to hit as we move some of our people in right as we get more and more complete I think I’m finally going to be able to take a sigh of relief maybe even take a vacation it’ be nice it’s been years in the making late nights blood sweat tears you know all of that I can’t imagine once we actually have you know the team out here practicing you know Coach Harbaugh leading the team bring it up bring it up we got all three 1 2 3 together having training camp having fans I mean that’s going to be that’s going to be [Applause] surreal Dean and Fred should be extremely proud of how their strategic Vision their big picture long-term view is physically represented in that building John and Abe should be extremely proud of the work that they put in because I think it was all worth it and I think that every fan out there I hope they feel like this is a representation of what they’ve always hoped to experience with us [Music]

With construction of the LA Chargers’ new practice facility in El Segundo nearly complete, the Bolts must now move their entire football and business operations into a brand new headquarters.
