happening welcome into another episode of lock on Broncos your daily de Broncos podcast part of the lock on podcast Network your team every day the Broncos locking in Quinn Miners to a long-term contract extension one of the most dominant young guards in the National Football League is here to stay we’ll talk about how it’s going to impact the offensive line how this move right here will benefit a young player like Bo Nicks all in today’s episode of lockdown Broncos I’m your friend as always Cody roor Broncos reporter for Mile High Sports make sure you check us out on YouTube or wherever you get your podcast thank you so much once again to everyone in Broncos country for rocking with us making us your first listen of the day every single day we appreciate you so much here let’s dive into it obviously some breaking news here for the Broncos really on the cusp of training camp we all know right around the corner here the Broncos get one of their major Todo list items checked off the Box before the season even begins locking in Quinn Miners to a 4-year contract extension a big-time deal and a well-deserved deal for one of the most dominant young players in the interior offensive line right now in the National Football League his tape is impressive and really his story his journey to the NFL was impressive in and of itself we would have never maybe seen Quinn Miners in a Broncos uniform if it weren’t for his performance at the senior bull leading up to the 2021 NFL draft him stepping in for Landon Dickerson who suffered an injury there Jim naggie brought him along and he dominated he dominated everybody Derek Brown I remember was one of the most prominent defensive tackles going into that draft cycle there Quinn Miners held his own in one-on ones and all of a sudden has now come to the NFL and has held his own against some really good competition and more importantly here for the Broncos let’s get into the numbers here on this deal and we’ll tell you why it matters and really where the Broncos strategy is going based on this deal here now obviously a year extension worth up to $80 million 45 million of that guaranteed he’s set to make 24 million in the first year of his deal and we imagine this is going to give Denver some Breathing Room next year and even after that to maybe re you know restructure convert something into a signing bonus to free up more c space as we know the Broncos well maybe not now it used to be 26 unrestricted free agents after the 2024 NFL season Denver locks up one of their most important top priority items before before the season even begins and and look I think this is important for Shawn Peyton who’s come out and has really emphasized really from day one since he took the job in Denver talking about how important it is to have a sustainable Run game and look for the Broncos last year it wasn’t good enough it wasn’t sustainable enough though they are taking steps in the right direction I know there are factors of injuries quarterback play First Year Shawn Payton’s first year back necessarily from retirement getting back into the weeds of things there were a lot of things that got in the way of the Broncos from having success and even though they started one and five they finished uh very impressively down the stretch there winning five straight games getting into the playoff conversation in December being one game out of the first seed inside the AFC West not the first seed but you know top out of first from the AFC West standpoint there you were behind Kansas City like that was an interesting conversation here and when you watch Quinn Miners really as the Broncos offense had its ups and downs last year and and certainly there were more downs and UPS the bright spot consistently day in and day out was always Quin miners because he’s burying dudes like go back and and look at what he did to Max Crosby in that last game like he’s getting respect from some of the top defensive lineman in the NFL and I guarantee you that’s only going to rise here but we talked about it earlier like what does this indicate about Denver strategy Shawn Payton wants to build a sustainable offensive line that features continuity and this move right here is a great example of that because they’re locking in a young player for the foreseeable future not just because he’s is a good player but because he can do a lot of things that will help amplify what they want to do and we’ll obviously dive a little bit deeper into how this may impact the Broncos at quarterback especially maybe even right away here in 2024 but you look at the miners deal you look at Mike mcglinchy who signed a five-year contract worth 87.5 Million last year in NFL free agency and then you go in you get left guard Ben Powers to a four-year deal $80 million as well Denver really building the trend es here on the offensive line like we’re talking about long-term pieces whereas I think in the last handful of years the Broncos they’ve been going in this direction of okay this guy’s changing positions okay you’re going to maybe have a competition at this position that’s been the the key whether it’s at Center whether it’s been at Garden at times it has been the tackle position prior to Mike mcglinchy of just a revolving door of offensive lineman offensive coordinators so on so forth position coaches you name it there’s been so much change and Shawn pton is finally looking to lock in and build a nucleus and even if it doesn’t happen right away in 2024 he believes that he’s taking a step in the right direction with the guys that he is building the offensive line with alongside offensive line coach Zack stref very important I think that we highlight that here on today’s episode of the show but there are some deeper dive points here like this is a well-deserved contract extension for Quinn not only is he a guy that I I get a lot of joy out of watching him even like in in preparation like team stretch this is a guy who So Pro process oriented and he just knows when to flip the switch like Quinn is a very laid-back guy if you ever seen his press conferences one of the nicest dudes you’ll ever talk to one of the nicest dudes you’ll ever get the chance to meet if you ever get to meet him and then when he’s on the football field he’s an entirely different person there’s a switch that flips and all of a sudden he becomes tenacious he becomes aggressive and the Broncos they’ve needed that they’ve needed grit they’ve needed nastiness and I remember when the Broncos could have had a chance to draft Quinton Nelson years ago in the NFL draft a lot of people said well the Broncos missed out there they didn’t miss out on Quinn Miners former division three player got the opportunity to make it in the NFL drafted in round number three of the 2021 NFL draft and for George pton really accomplishing one of the goals he set out the moment he took the job from John Elway saying hey we’re coming in our goal is to draft and to develop players and get them second contracts on this team he proved that right there with Quinn Miners big news here for the Denver Broncos locking in one of the promising offensive guards in all the National Football League there a well-deserved deal for Quin miners but how is Shawn pyton continue to build maybe sustain ability on the offensive line in 2024 how is this going to help B Knicks we’ll tell you that here on today’s episode locked on Broncos today’s episode of lockdown Broncos is brought to our friends we’re breaking all that down here on today’s episode of the show just a real quick reminder here Broncos Country this show couldn’t be here without your support all you every dayers out there who make us your first listen subscribe or follow for free wherever you get your podcast are available on YouTube we talked about how this is going to benefit B Knicks the Broncos offense not just maybe in 2024 but in terms of down the road this is how you do it right here you have to have a sustainable Run game in today’s element of the National Football League look defenses you see the edge rushers in today’s game you see the Stout defensive linemen you see the athletic linebackers the playmaking safeties The Versatile Corners who aren’t just cover guys but come up and Tackle if you can’t run the football cons consistently or effectively the way the Broncos Unfortunately they have not been able to do that in the last handful of years if you can’t do that you’re not going to have success in today’s NFL and look while this move doesn’t necessarily paint to the immediacy that hey Quinn Miner is being locked in okay you got three offensive linemen right now that are guaranteed to be on this team for the next three to four years okay like there’s a step in the right direction there’s no guarantee it’s going to translate to success but in Shawn Peyton’s mind this is the vision this is how you do it you can’t find a way to build sustainability or continuity on an offensive line if you’re having New pieces Plug and Play at that spot every single year the most recent example we can give you in terms of where the Broncos have been you can make an argument really it’s right tackle has been a problem since 2012 it’s been a revolving door of this player could be the answer this year this player could be the answer next year has never been that way they’ve got that now with Mike mcglinch who’s obviously got to step up and play better himself you got it at a left guard with Ben Powers and now you have it at the right guard position position with Quinn Miners and now you have your question marks right we don’t know who the center is going to be here it’s a competition between Alex foresight and Luke wattenberg can one of those guys step up to the table and can the presence of Ben Powers and Quinn Miners amplify the center play which then amplifies your quarterback’s ability to have success being able to avoid pressure on the interior these are crucial things and then the other question mark here at the offensive line really is Garrett Bulls is in the final year of his contract he’s also playing for an extension but this could very well be the last year of Garrett Bulls in Denver so this is a big move in terms of what the Broncos need to do I I alluded to it earlier here in the show that before this move Denver was set to have 26 unrestricted free agents after the 2024 NFL season now going to be 25 it gives you flexibility here so how does having a sustained offensive line benefit a young player like bonck who Shawn pyton drafted in the first round as a belief that this is going to be his guy and obviously there’s a competition going on between those guys but Shawn pyton has it in mind that it is going to be bo Nicks as his guy for the foreseeable future despite the labeled competition that we are anticipating here beginning at training camp obviously next week when you can have a sustainable Run game and your offensive line isn’t changing every single week like the Broncos did in 2022 there was I think 11 different starting offensive lineups through the first 12 weeks of the Season you’re not going to have a lot of success when it’s just a revolving door of new guys pluging and playing and look injuries are part of the game you have to be able to game plan for a good depth there I think the Broncos are in a good spot we did an episode of training camp position preview about that make sure you check that out if you haven’t already wherever you get your podcast or available on YouTube but if Denver’s defense takes a step forward this year the offensive line plays consistently better and the Run game opens up you know what that does for a young guy like B knck who look B Nick doesn’t need all the stuff to just go right for him like Bo is a very capable quarterback 61 career C college starts a lot of experience one of the least sacked quarterbacks in college football in the last two years at the University of Oregon he’s smart he knows how to get rid of the football so he’s going to make up for a lot of deficiencies that the Broncos had in terms of protection last year and also just quarterback play should be improved from that department from Bo himself but you take all the pressure off of his shoulders to have to do it all right because if you have no Run game teams are going to dare you to throw the football and while I have belief bief that the Broncos can pass the football effectively at consistent rate this season something they haven’t been able to do in the last handful of years you can’t do it long term without a run game and making sure that you have a nucleus of players and look Shawn pton I think has a belief that either Luke wattenberg or Alex foresight can be that fourth piece and then you get a veteran guy who’s experienced and is an above average player on Garrett Bulls the way he’s been playing you might have a really good shot at being able to maximize this window to give a young player like Nicks the pieces around him obviously flexibility and free agency more draft Capital to add weapons and things to the Arsenal this is a helps the Broncos right now but also helps the Broncos in the future type of move when locking up a guy like Quinn Miners for the long term I think this is important it impacts their strategy in terms of roster building and also how they structure the offense here in 2024 what you’re going to see beginning starting at training camp with Quinn Miners four-year massive extension here by the Broncos big news out of the evening here in the valley with that said Broncos Country we want to hear your thoughts what were your thoughts on the extension of Quinn Miners and how it impacts the team make sure you let us know if you’re listening or watching lockdown Broncos wherever you get your podcast or available on YouTube get in the conversation we
