why not Gilly Stefan Gilmore is either saying he doesn’t understand or pretending he doesn’t understand or maybe he really doesn’t so I’m going to help him out and I’m going to help you out too Cowboy Nation for hanging out with us uh Gilmore said the other day he’s still obviously a uh free agent and now he’s a scrap Heap free agent which is weird for him I’m sure weird to him sucks for him sucks to him he said the other day about his free agency you mean to tell me that among 32 teams there’s 64 starting cornerbacks that are better than me I don’t think that and Gilly we’re going to expand the math out there’s 64 starting quarterbacks in the NFL boundary Corners that have jobs there’s two 32 more starting slots that’s 96 and there’s one two more quarterbacks on every other team that’s another 60 so you could turn this sentence Gilly into you mean to tell me there’s 64 64 starting Corners you can turn into there’s 164 Corners better than me why do they have jobs and I don’t and that’s valid in a vacuum the the question comes up I saw um one of our most preeminent broadcasters the other day preeminent journalist say the Cowboys should sign Gilly I’m like yeah that’s valid in a vacuum the Cowboys where they are now these other teams too it’s not just Dallas this isn’t happening in a vacuum Cowboy secondary has two All Pro level performers all all pro level Playmakers and Trayvon Diggs who as we’ve reported here uh the Cowboys have told me fine for September don’t believe the negative hype and draw Bland to Pro Bowl level playmakers that makes this different from a year ago when the Cowboys acquired Gillie via the cheap smart trade they they knew what they had in Diggs they didn’t know yet at that time what they had in Bland and then Gilly gets here team leader quality guy good player so why is he still a free agent and he’s he’s suggesting that he’s scratching his head trying to figure it out now he did say I’m being patient staying ready he’s recognizing teams are going to do and we’ve talked about this at wide receiver we’ve talked about this at running back teams are going to and the Cowboys are going to see what they have in the first 10 days of training camp before in the Cowboys case before they start rolling in any of these running back names you’ve heard of and I’m not saying they won’t but before they do they’re going to look at what they have Cowboys should sign Kareem hunt not until they see Rico dle Cowboys should sign Hunter renr not until they see Jaylen Tober and on and on and on same thing at cornerback there’s going to be plenty of teams that are going to get to training camp and look at their cornerbacks and say we’re not good enough and then they’ll reevaluate the Gilmore situation or they’ll get somebody hurt if if the Cowboys get somebody hurt at cornerback um top of the depth chart they will call Gilmore but they’re not going to offer him $10 million a year and they’re probably not going to offer him a two-year contract as we know that’s BYU around here that’s be a violation of biu Gilly if teams want to win I think they should sign the best players that almost seems and again this isn’t exclusive to the cowboys that almost seems like a direct shot against the Cowboys the Cowboys don’t have 90 players that are coming to Oxnard with us who are better than Stefan Gilmer obviously not but this isn’t happening in a vacuum Gilmore last year 68 tackles two interceptions and something else we’ve talked about the leadership and the quality his shoulder was trashed before that Packers game and he played anyway because they needed him to play and that’s football that speaks to the quality of guy and competitor you’ve got here all for him uh rehabbing that shoulder I assume he’ll be fine by September I don’t know that I I assume so maybe maybe teams need to examine that too but if I’m Dallas I have the emergence of bland over here I have the rehabbing star Diggs over there I can argue that I’m set at corner I might be cutting a guy like Izzy or a guy like Wright that’s how decent the Cowboys think their cornerback depth is and obviously they have every reason to think that at the top of the depth chart it it’s as good as there is in the league playmaker wise digs and Bland so you can argue we’re set at corner how about death that’d be good I’m I’m going to pay Gilly to be a backup that’s what he wants how much you’re going to pay Gilly to be a backup again his usual salary for the last few years has been $10 million a year okay how about this is Gilly better than Jordan Lewis now the Cowboys think Jordan Lewis is a good player and he has been a good player again good player good guy Lewis plays the slot and he’ll probably start in the slot this year one last time if you signed Gilly and decided he’s better than Lewis now you start shuffling positions now you’re going to Bland who just set all-time records for playmaker performance at quarterback and you say um we’re going to move you into the slot not bad except while Gilly has every reason to want $10 million a year Jordan Lewis signed for 1/4 of that Jordan Lewis by the way I’m a little surprised he got that much good on his agent uh David can one year $2.6 million Gilmore obviously as he’s accustomed to the 10 million apy isn’t interested in doing that I don’t know the answer to this I think I do if the Cowboys would have called Gilmore and said we got one slot one year 2.6 million to be the third Corner Gilly would you like to sign here for one year 2.6 million I think he would have said no there’s no sure answers for what the Cowboys are going to do at quarterback there’s no guarantees but I think they’ve insured themselves pretty well they’ve gotten lucky and good with their talent there and they’re developing more they they they believe they’ve got now a next level as I say a next level of guy that might cause Nation right to not make the team might cause Izzy to not make the team that’s the rookie Carson jumps up Eric Scott jumps up is there a place somewhere in the NFL for a five-time pro bowler two-time All Pro two-time super bowler former defensive player of the year of course there is but he turns 34 in the fall so the commitments that Gilly wants from a team not just from Dallas the commitments that he wants from any team that commitment is not matched by the commitment that he’s being offered it’s not that he’s not as good or better than 90 guys on that roster or 12 cornerbacks on that roster or the two cornerbacks Who start on that roster over there it’s not that what he’s arguing is valid in a vacuum we write about this by the way at Cowboys country.com so go get you some of that there is Stefan Gilmore good player skins on the wall heck of a guy leader gutsy is Stefan Gilmore better than a bunch of NFL cornerbacks who presently have jobs of course he is but is he younger and is he cheaper of course he isn’t and that’s the answer to the
