Troubling Vladimir Guerrero Jr. UPDATE – Blue Jays “Could Make A Move”… (Toronto Blue Jays News)

[Music] hello everybody and welcome back to Blue Jays today we’re your boys we always got something to say about the Toronto Blue Jays I’m your host ad ped and I’m your host Nicholas plog Mark finsen recently released an article and in that article he was detailing some recent ongoings with Vladimir Guerrero Jr talking about the contract extension how it is not close not particularly close at all right now and then also discussing a trade with latty and even though the Toronto Blue Jays don’t particularly want to sell him they could be convinced if the offer is right we’re going to get into all of that break that down give our thoughts on it if you haven’t already done so hit the like smash the Subscribe button let’s Dive Right into this article man I want to start with the um the extension conversation first we’re going to talk about the trade and you know what a trade if the if the Jays of course right because there’s still a big if right but if they did want to do that what would it look like what would it what would it take to get Vladimir Guerrero Jr off this roster but the extension conversation right now you know Vladimir Guerrero Jr been on this team now for five years I think it was five six years it’s been a while feels like a long time it’s been a while and at this point especially in this season it feels like you are starting to to really learn who he is as a player who he is as a guy moving forward and apparently they’re not they’re not close in the money no they’re not close according to Mark feine said right here in this article that he talks about seven Allstars who could be traded after the allstar break you got right here Guerrero and the Blue Jays have discussed a potential extension but sources said the two sides were not particularly close to getting a deal done now just to uh this is kind of a followup on what we knew in the off season where the Blue Jays they weren’t close in any conversations mainly because the Toronto Blue Jays well we didn’t know who Vladimir Guerrero Jr was to your point now we’re starting to get to know him a little bit more and Ross Atkins has already mentioned a little bit earlier in this season that he’s not going to be having any extension conversations so I think that this is just a a copy and paste from where they were already in this off season and those those extension conversations may be getting a little bit closer in this following off season Once you get to learn who Vladimir gr Jr is a bit more at the end of this season yeah no I definitely I certainly hear where you’re coming from there and I get how previously right this previous off season well you know I don’t know is it going to be bo is it going to be Vlad what is the direction of this squad and we are still trying to figure out what the direction of this team is going to be you know this straight deadline is going to be a big deciding factor right here but I think one thing that that you can’t have happen if you’re Ross Atkins or whoever is going to be running this squad is to do what we’re seeing is happening right now with Danny Jansen where you know you’re waiting you’re waiting you’re waiting you know that this is a a valuable asset to your team you know but you’re you’re not valuing him to the point that he thinks he should be valued to and now you’re in a position with Danny Jansen where oh [ __ ] we’re a couple months away from the trade deadline we’re not a competitive ball team we’re probably going to have to sell you I don’t want to be there with Guerrero next year yeah it’s tough Danny Jon is a kind of different conversation not to derail the whole Vlad mcgo Jr talks but I mean Danny Jansen as well you know you were we felt like we knew who Danny Jansen was and we willing like me and Nick here willing to say hey if we were GMS we’d be extending them last this past off season right even though knowing the risk that hey Danny Jansen isn’t particularly healthy most seasons but we know we’re going to get a great catcher who runs the staff well but the blue JS I guess on the other side of things weren’t so sure and wanted to see what would happen this season but time is a little bit too uh time is running out blue and now that we’ve again we we are learning exactly the this is who Vladimir gr Jr is I mean he’s been to the all-star game now four years in a row that is obviously very notable I know that he’s not the gamebreaking talent that he was in 2021 but he’s still putting up very solid numbers if you’re not close now okay and if you hold on to him okay this is something that needs to get addressed this off season it has to get done this off season and also too that’s something that Guerrero is going to know and maybe he’s going to be asking for a little bit more money knowing that you have to extend him this off season if you don’t if you don’t trade him right now so I guess the next question is to to to Pivot off of this extension talks is what would be a realistic offer for Guerrero right now you know what is something that you’re comfortable with with signing him to what’s something that you think they’re going to sign him to at the end of the day well it it’s interesting because you look around the league and Nick and I were doing our research and it’s hard to find an exact comparison to a Vladimir Guerrero Jr because Vladimir gr Jr is a generational Talent where you know he’s expecting himself to play even better than he currently is this SE where he really hasn’t been in the last few years so we kind of looked at a couple examples around the league that is kind of comparable to ladimir Guero Jr the first example that I’m going to bring up is what I think Vladimir Guero Jr wants to get paid like and that is rapael des over on the Boston Red Sox he had a huge extension a couple years ago when he was 25 years old and that deal was for 10 years $313 million so on average annual value simple math it’s 3.1 uh or three excuse me 31.3 million average annual value now rafhael Des when he signed that deal at 25 years old had an Ops of 854 and he had a batting average of 283 he was putting up great numbers where you look at Vladimir Guero Jr so far at the age of 25 it’s a little bit less than that right in terms of the Ops but very similar Ops plus actually vlat is a better Ops plus so vlad’s gonna want to get paid something close to that however yeah Nick what are your thoughts on that kind of deal for Vladimir I mean I think that like again I I certainly would hear Vladimir gr Jr’s argument it’s like hey I’m I’m a $300 million guy right that’s always been the number that people have thrown out it’s 300 350 somewhere in that range of outcomes it’s just when you look at those numbers from Vladimir ger Jr it’s abundantly clear they are being propped up immensely from 2021 and you know you aren’t that guy anymore if I look back at the last three years yes you’ve gone to the allar game every single time and yes you’ve been you know consistent with uh with what it is that you’re doing but it’s not that same gamebreaking talent that you were and I don’t think that what he’s done in the last three years is worthy of a $300 million contract and I think that’s where the tonel Blue Jays are going to come from and they’re going to look at some of the other guys around the league at that first base position there’s a great article from Blue Jays Nation where they were uh they were looking at Jake cronenworth Matt Olsen Freddy Freeman Paul Goldman now a lot of these guys are much older than Vladimir gr Jr and I I don’t think that this is an Apples to Apples comparison the closest one here for me is Matt Olson Matt Olson had a great career previously before getting that extension he was 28 when he did it which would be one year older than what Guerrero is going to be uh walking into 2026 when that extension will kick in and he got paid $168 million for8 years so for me and I know that there are so many extenuating uh other conversations here so many other variables but for me if you’re going to extend Guerrero it is somewhere between a Matt olon deal and a Raphael de deal and if you literally look at the exact middle guys again doing the math before this podcast so eight years to 10 years it’d be a nine-year deal and you got uh 168 million to 313 million actually it would be a uh 234 million deal so if they’re going literally just right in the middle of those two guys now this is obviously a very loose comp harison but in 9year $234 million does that persuade you to want is that do you feel comfortable with that is what I’m trying to say here’s the thing I would feel comfortable with that as a Toronto Blue Jays fan I would also feel comfortable with that if I’m a Ross Atkins and R Communication Company especially if we are going to be selling off all of our pieces you still need to hold on to somebody right now you need you need a window of some sort right is Guerrero going to be comfortable with that we’re not sure we don’t know what he’s asking for right now but at the very minute minimum if you don’t trade him away this trade deadline you need to know for sure I’m okay with going to that 230 240 250 mark on the flip side of things if you’re Ross Atkins and you’re Rogers and you are not okay with getting to that number right you’re looking at the pay you’re looking at the bank statements right now and you’re going holy [ __ ] [ __ ] that is going to be a lot of money for a guy who has an 815 Ops uh that’s when you start thinking more and more about that potential trade this trade deadline and apparently they are thinking about a little bit but it would take one hell a hole right before moving on to the trades I did want to throw out here hey Guerrero he says he wants to play Toronto we knew this for a while even throughout this part too where he mentioned that hey you know what my family my family loves Toronto my kids love Toronto at the end of the day it’s just business so look it it’s definitely just business but maybe there’s a bit of persuasion on VL where it’s like you know what that number right in the middle let’s just take it because I actually want to be a blue J for life and hey think of it this way too you got George Springer $25 million per year if you were to pay Vladimir junr $26 million per year you know for a for a low 800 guy and a young guy as well I think I take it if you can sell him on that then uh then yeah absolutely I think you knock that one out of the park if you can’t though and you know we they are not close right they probably had these conversations everything that we were talking about they are not close right now and that’s when you start thinking about that trade that I brought up and that Mark finson brought up saying that Jay’s don’t want to trade planning on trading it but if they did get an overwhelming offer they would be okay with it right that’s only pull it up right here so everyone can see that’s exactly what he’s talking about right here in this article like yeah I mean it does make sense though an overwhelming offer would get it done and anybody who’s smart knows that look if you you have a great offer on your table that could turn your franchise around immediately you take that that’s the thing and it’s got it’s got to be one of those you know complete overhaul rebuild right like I think back to the uh the Juan stto deal over to the San Diego Padres when he went there from the Washington Nationals and now you’re looking at the Washington Nationals and you’re going oh [ __ ] like you know there’s there’s all these budding budding talents that came out of quote unquote nowhere but they didn’t because they came from woto Trading him away right that’s the type of deal that I think you’d need from a Toronto Blue Jay standpoint if you were willing to to move on from Guerrero now does Guerrero warrant I mean I think we can easily answer this he doesn’t warrant actually a ju soda type of deal but is that what it would obviously that’s is what it would take but any less than that would you accept anything less than a wanta type of deal I mean it’s so it’s so tough to know because you know you’re you’re talking how much less right how much less and again like I’m not a pro Scout right I don’t know exactly what these guys throw or you know how they hit how they approach right maybe there’s some guys that that we have in uh in our system tral blue jay system they’re like hey this guy we’d be willing to take him you know even though some other guys aren’t as high on him that being said very tough to speculate there was an article uh that was T coming out and And discussing a Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Chase trade this one um there’s so many fan related articles you know there was one from the Seattle Mariners it was ridiculous oh was ridiculous like Fifth and seventh rank Pros couple other ones this is in the realm of possibility I still don’t know if it’s enough but it is in the realm of possibility Houston Astros in this proposed deal would be sending over their second third sth and 12th ranked Prospect so an absolute overhaul of your farm system you are fully restocked now if you’re the Toronto Blue Jays you got guys on the pitching side of things you got an infielder you got an outfielder so across the board like you know you you’re basically building an entire new baseball team with this deal what are your thoughts on on something like this you know I do think on paper this actually is a pretty good deal you’re getting a second third ranked Pro Prospect like you’re saying a seventh and a 12 this is a big this is a big send over for a guy who’s got only one more year of control who in the last few years has had a 130 Ops plus right like that that does make a lot of sense however from the Toronto Blue Jay’s point of view you have to consider what does this trade do for our fan base and you know CU Vladimir gr Jr is the face of this franchise so when you selling away a guy like that it’s more than just guys on a page it’s how can I sell to my fan base to come back and buy tickets and be a fan of this team if I just trade away a face so for me all these guys on this list no one is ready to go play in the major leagues this year or next year all these guys are future prospects so if you’re looking at bashed who’s not doing so well right now George Springer is a lovable guy but he’s just not bringing that firear power if I’m trading away my one star power how am I going to convince my fan base to fall in love with these next guys if they’re not even up for the next couple years so that for me from from a business standpoint it’s it’s a tough and murky situation well we do know that they they certainly prioritize you know money and and all right the side things however I would also argue that if you’re making a Guerrero trade right like even if we got back somebody who and here’s the thing right if you make a Guerero trade and you get back a major league Ready Player he’s not going to be that good because then what’s the point of you know trading for Guerrero on the other side of things right so I think that like if you’re trading away Vladimir Guerrero Jr you have to understand that like you are pissing off the fan base regardless of of what comes back right unless it is like a SK level doal we were joking about that before we even started recording that would not happen you know you’re going to piss the fan base off we are going to be upset that Guerrero is not going to be on the team for the next decade of time we got his jersey we paid to watch this guy for years he was supposed to be the guy so if you are doing it I think that that’s just inherently understood and at that point it’s okay we just need as much [ __ ] return as possible to to make us do this whoa time for your daily bet way breather a quick reminder that the best place to bet is on betway must be 19 years of age or older to play in collaboration with I gaming Ontario please bet responsibly now back to the content and I’m going to say this for the quadrillionth time uh doing this would effectively mean Ross Atkins will be fired like imagine because if he gets traded everyone already hates him if Ross ain’s the guy that gets rid of Vladimir Guerrero Jr before even trying to extend him pitchforks torches or going to his door he is gone right like he is gone and if you trade for you know as this article just suggested four top prospects I want somebody else uh managing these guys EXA I want somebody else dealing with their development and bringing them up and creating a team around them right because if you did something like this well this is going to be the new window when they come up I don’t want you [ __ ] handling that Ro sack yeah no exactly it would definitely be a death sentence so with that all being said I think a Guerrero trade is highly unlikely unless you get a hall of Halls right like this on paper looks pretty equal Maybe a little favor of uh blue jays who knows but you need a hall of Halls to make it happen because there’s going to be a lot of Fallout that happens in the Guerrero ultimately man for me it just comes down to one thing or the other okay you extend them great I’m happy with it but you have to make sure that you do that you trade them okay that sucks but you make sure that you get a haul what you cannot do is play this Middle Ground of oh well we want to leave our option open and whatever and we’re not close on a deal and we don’t want to trade them and then uh oh it’s next year and you know girl Jor is a couple months away from free agency and we’re [ __ ] I think it’s it’s funny you say that we want to leave our options open I think by leaving our options open any longer you actually choose your option and it is losing Vladimir Guerrero Jr so Ross Atkins if you want a chance to even have save your job I think you extend them after the St for real dude that might actually be one of those things where you can look back at Ros Atkins and go finally you did something right but folks let us know your thoughts about this in the comments down below what should the Toronto bluj do with gatty what should they do with that at this trade deadline overall folks please let us know Down Below guys $3 a month to If the Blue Jays manage to fumble the bag on a Vladimir Guerrero Jr extension, it could be the biggest failure this franchise has ever seen. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. extension conversation updates have been leaked by Mark Fiensand, and the Blue Jays are no where close to an extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. In addition, the Blue Jays may consider a huge trade for Guerrero if the price is right. What would that price be? Let’s discuss!
