MLB.com’s list of potential trade targets – who do you think would be good fit for Mets?

Mets desperately need a reliable lefty reliever. The only two on this list are Chafin, who is over-performing his peripherals, and Tanner Scott, who’ll demand a somewhat steep asking price but probably worth it.

It’s a crazy idea but I would love to see Mets target a package of Tanner Scott and Jazz Chisholm. We need outfield help and Jazz can play a decent center field while also being able to play both middle infield positions. He’s pretty polarizing in terms of how he’s evaluated, many claiming he’s very overrated, but I believe he still has untapped potential and honestly is playing pretty well despite not living up to expectations. Would definitely cost us a blue chip prospect or two but would be worth it because of Jazz’s age and team control.

  1. I think pitching is more necessary than offense for us in terms of pieces to add BUT of the guys listed I feel like Arozarena would have the best chance of replicating some of the Cespedes 2015 magic.

  2. When factoring price I think the best 3 would be
    – Erick Fedde – SP under 2025 control. Stearns tried hard to get him in the offseason and was the high bidder, but Fedde wanted to return to MLB in a smaller market, lower pressure environment
    – Andrew Chafin – when you look at their careers him and Tanner Scott aren’t far off. Chafin is older, but he also has the years of continued success Scott doesn’t have. He should also cost less and is under 2025 team control
    – Jesse Winker – he’s crushing the ball this year in the NLE and is a left handed OF bat. He is a bad fielder, but he has a cannon of an arm and isn’t worse than Starling Marte!

  3. Jesse Winker, Garret Crochet and Estevez would razzle in this line-up. Starter, Marte Replacements that mashes and a good relief pitcher to take it home

  4. Tanner Scott. We helped the Marlins with David Robertson last year, send those same guys back for Scott 🙂

  5. Winker would be the perfect DJ replacement. Probably not that expensive either.

  6. Chisholm is a locker room cancer. We already have an underperforming infielder-outfielder who’s a bad clubhouse guy, we don’t need 2

  7. It’s a weird year. I think it’s a buyers market for pitching and a sellers market for hitting.

Honestly? I hope we fully sell and then maybe trade for Fedde. We have so many hitters that could net decent return in a year where several teams are desperate for even mediocre performers.

I know it’s blasphemy but this year feels just like 21 to me. We’re having this illusion of success but the roster is just not very good and it could all fall apart, easily, at any moment.

I definitely don’t think we should risk prospect capital to make a splash for this roster.

  8. The ideal targets that probably aren’t realistic: Mason Miller, Flaherty, Crochet, Skubal, Robert, Rooker

The targets that would make more sense in the offseason: everybody listed above and Vlad Jr

The realistic targets: Eflin, Kikuchi, Richards, Estevez, Jazz, Fedde, Scott

I’ve been saying it all month but the Mets need a starter and two relievers. I’d focus on Eflin/Fedde and then Estevez and Scott. If the Rangers fall out, I’d go hard after DRob/Yates instead of Estevez.

Mets could definitely use an OF since Marte is questionable, I’d like Jazz if the cost was appropriate. He can play 2B and the OF. He’d give the Mets insurance next year in the event that Pete walks and/or Mauricio/Acuña/Baty all falter.

Winker and Pillar’s peripherals are all super suspect. I’d rather bring back Pham, even if he is a lunatic. Ward would be amazing but I’d imagine that he’d cost a ton. I’d definitely try to get him, though. His peripherals suggest that he’s due for positive regression.

  9. Are the Tigers really considering trading Skubal? I thought he has a couple years left—that would require an absolutely massive prospect haul.

I think Tanner Scott could be a really nice addition and not too pricey

  10. I think Chafin took to twitter when he got traded to oakland one year to try and buy a beater whip off the fans or something…

Winker would probably have fun here, but would probably be impossible to get from the Nats

does Kevin Pillar still wear a facemask? he bled for us once

  11. Bullpen + outfield are our biggest areas of need at the moment.

Bringing back Pham to take DJ Stewart’s place would be a low cost upgrade. Winker could also fit but the price may be a bit higher.

For the bullpen, another lefty is an absolute must, Chafin probably being the most feasible. Another middle of the pen arm like Richards could also go a long way in adding depth.

And if the price is right, we could use another SP if Scott or Peterson falter. If Uncle Steve is willing to eat money, which I’m sure he is, we could probably nab Anderson, Kikuchi, or Eflin without giving up much prospect capital.

These incremental moves would improve the team without giving up much from the farm, and would give us a shot to compete in this year without tapping into our resources for 2025 and beyond.

  12. Winker, Pham for OF but I don’t think it’s necessary with Marte coming back

Paredes would be cool but I don’t think worth it

Any relief help imo is where we should go.
