we talked about on Tuesday’s episode when and we’ve had the top 10 receivers and off-ball linebackers come out out since then one Buccaneer made the list so as a refresher ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has compiled lists of top 10 players in each position group based on a survey of NFL Executives coaches and Scouts Antoine Winfield Junior was listed as the top safety Tristan wors as the number seven offensive tackle V vea was an honorable mention among defensive tackles Baker Mayfield was a player also receiving votes among quarterbacks with the receiver rankings coming out Buccaneers future Hall of Famer Mike Evans came in at number eight the top 10 was Justin Jefferson Tyreek Hill Jamar Chase cidi lamb Devonte Adams AJ Brown Aman Ross St Brown Mike Evans Stefon Diggs and Brandon iuk regarding Mike Evans an NFL Personnel member said quote he still commands a double team he still can bully Corners at the line of scrimmage or downfield still make makes tough catches he’s been a top the Bucks game plan on who to stop for a decade an AFC Scout said quote he’s been one of the most consistent players of the last decade with uneven quarterback play end quote you can nitpick uh you know things about this list maybe Lam and Adams are a little bit too high but overall I think that this top 10 is pretty solid last year Evans was an honorable mention this year he’s up to number eight now where you can start to question things are his highest and lowest rankings this year His Highest was a four all right that’s cool getting some of that credit that he so rightfully deserves getting a little bit of love but his lowest ranking was unranked who on Earth is keeping this guy off of their list completely as the AFC Scout said he’s been the most consistent player of the last decade and it hasn’t mattered what quarterback you put out there with him he’s going to get his and he’s going to be one of the best in the league while doing so however I will say to be fair AJ Brown Aman raw Stefon Diggs Brandon iuk they all received unranked positions as well so I’m not really sure what these guys are doing with their top 10 lists uh leaving you know those five guys off of it but honorable mentions were Cooper cup debbo samel Garrett Wilson jayen wad Devonte Smith Amari Cooper DJ Moore and Nico Collins others receiving votes were DK metf Keenan Allen Terry McClaren Calvin Ridley T Higgins pukan neua George Pickins Chris olve Michael Pitman Jr DeAndre Hopkins and courtlin Sutton which brings me to my next point no Chris Godwin anywhere come on man I know he got off to a slow start but he was still one of the better receivers in the league and I’m not saying that he’s top 10 we know he can be top 10 but again he had a little bit of a Down year before coming on strong over the course of the second half of the Season his first down percentage was higher than Garrett Wilson Devonte Smith Devonte Adams Michael Pitman Jr Stefon Diggs Jamar Chase Keenan Allen Aman Rous Brown and CD lamb his yards after catch better than Wilson Hopkins Devonta Smith Jefferson metf olve Adams Cooper Evans auk and Ridley receptions that result in a first down he beats out Wilson Hopkins Smith Jefferson metf Pickins Cooper and was tied with Pitman Jr and Collins I’m not pounding the table for Godwin to be top 10 but he should have been in the honorable mentions or at the very least absolutely deserve to be one of the others receiving votes but much like what I said about Rashad white on the last episode Godwin has to go out and prove all of these folks wrong for ignoring him especially in a contract year I think given Liam Cohen’s offense his return to the slot position where he dominated for the majority of his career that kind of offense mixed with his his return to the slot is going to equal big big numbers for Chris Godwin in 2024 which could be great and terrible all at the same time if the Bucks can’t figure out a way to extend Godwin now or get him to return before he becomes a free agent one thing however that I will pound the table for is the fact that Levante David was an honorable mention among off ball linebackers the top 10 were Fred Warner roquan Smith Matt Milano PR Patrick Queen Nick Bolton Jeremiah auu coroa taine Edmonds Demario Davis Dre Greenlaw and foad Olu alakin I’m I’m so sorry I knew I was gonna butcher the name it was gonna happen but aluin uh rounded out the top 10 when it came to Levante One NFC executive said quote he started slowly last year but he was excellent in the second half he tore us up when we played him this is nothing new Levante is always the Forgotten linebacker across the NFL until your team has to face him then you realize that what people like me have been saying what Buccaneers fans have been saying about him you know when they talk about him being underappreciated underrated overlooked you know it’s because he’s going to be a constant problem for any offense that he goes against and it’s just worth noting I I need to throw this in here somehow someway Devin white was one of the off-ball linebackers that were others receiving votes so Chris Godwin can’t get mentioned among the wide receivers Rashad white can’t get mentioned among the running backs um Tristan wors outside the top five and Devin white is gonna get mentioned in this like what are we doing anybody that watched Buccaneers football last year watched Devin white watched the issues that he had both on and off the field that was simply somebody going out there and saying oh yeah I remember that guy he was really good back in 2020 when the Bucks won the Super Bowl I’m gonna put his name down I it’s it’s ridiculous absolutely ridiculous Chris Godwin Rashad white they are better Baker Mayfield for that matter they are better against their fellow position group cohorts than Devin white was up against off ball linebacker ERS in the words of Chad ooso child please the Buccaneers quietly make a big my messages complaining about it but I know most of you are excited the cream sickle game is back this season and it is going to take place on on October 27th as the Bucks host the Atlanta Falcons so the team that everyone is picking to win the division and make all this noise this season will be the one to take on bucko Bruce in a stadium full of nostalgic throwback colors the players love these uniforms most of the fans love these uniforms and it’s always a weeklong city celebration when the throwback game happens but that’s not all that the Buccaneers announced on December 8th the buck will take on the Las Vegas Raiders and it will be a red out so like the throwback game it’s going to be a week-long celebration the fans are encouraged to wear red to the stadium for the game and turn the entire Stadium red you can you’ll look at how awesome these are in college games the Penn State wide out game is huge Ohio state does these red out games you have games where fans stripe the stadium these are always a huge hit you know local businesses and buildings in the city of Tampa will turn their lights red to light up the city of Tampa in honor of the game November 10 is going to be the salute to service game against the 49ers that of course is a League wide thing and then you have a new theme happening this year and it will take place in week one against the Washington commanders the Bucks are calling it for Tampa Bay and it’s a celebration leading up to the kickoff of the Buccaneers in NFL season now this could just be a rebranding of what was always considered kickoff week but the Bucks appear to be working with the city in order to make it truly special for those that are in the area or will be going to the game from out of town fans attending the game will be given a Buccaneers bucket hat upon entrance to Ray J I know there’s going to be a lot of commanders fans in the area as many are going to try to get to Ray J to see Jaden Daniel’s first career game so Bucks fans I am pleading with you now in the middle of July do not sell your tickets for this game if you do sell them only to people that you know personally that are going to be there rooting for the Buccaneers for whatever reason Todd bulls has a history of struggling against rookie and backup quarterbacks so this game is not going to be a walk in the park by any means the commanders are a completely different team than they were last year and if you let their fans invade Ray J and week one and turn it into a pseudo home game things could get off to a very bad start now unfortunately for me I will no longer be going to that game I’ve had to cancel my trip now some of you may find that to be a blessing considering my record of attending games but do your part and show out for for these Buccaneers in week one especially since those of you that subscribe to the idea of the Bucks can’t win when I’m in attendance I might be shifting my week one trip to a week two trip and covering the Lions game in Detroit I’m sure there will be more themes coming in the future as well as the uniform schedule for each week that is always something that the Buccaneers drop but just wrap your mind around it right now the bucks are going to wear white at home a lot especially with those early kickoffs early in the season four o’clock games Prime Time games they’re probably going to be in red but the Bucks are going to wear white at home more than many of you would like but you’re gonna be okay I promise you’ll survive the you know the Bucks wore white in every game of their last Super Bowl run that worked out okay so realized that red is the home Jersey but they wear white early in the season it does make sense uh to some degree there’s no doubt Tampa is hot it doesn’t matter if you’re in white or black or dark blue or maroon or whatever it’s hot but you can minimize a little bit of that and you know wear white early in the season it’s fine the white uniforms are clean anyway I like the look of the white uniforms something all of course keep an eye out for is the color Rush game where the Bucks wear their PE uniforms which in my opinion are one of the best alternate uniforms in the NFL once we have the uniform schedule I’ll be sure to talk about it here but remember white jerseys early in the year at home cream sickles in week five the red out in week 14 Baker Baker Mayfield is having fun again Bobby cick of nfl.com wrote up a piece talking about Baker Mayfield’s bounceback last season from the tall task of replacing Tom Brady to the playoff run that most people didn’t see coming well Baker Mayfield was on the Mike CTA show and said quote you’re having a lot more fun when you’re not getting sh shipped off to different places like a piece of dirty laundry I’ll tell you that so when I got embraced in Tampa it made a world of difference I’ve always played ball to enjoy it I mean it is a game yes it is my job but I love it so much I’ve always worn my emotions on my sleeve and so let people Embrace that and that’s why I’m so excited for having more years to come in Tampa for people who just get to know me a little bit better truly realize that’s not just a show on the field that’s who I am when it comes down to the football aspect I love it I do anything for our team and our locker room guys know that end quote this was the big knock on Baker before he arrived right the Tampa was going to be his fourth team in two years and why would they want this failing retread quarterback to come in to the Bucks organization what many fail to forget is that when Brady retired the first time the Bucks contacted Cleveland about a potential trade they were doing their due diligence and looking in to getting Baker to Tampa back then had Brady not unretired and returned for the 2022 season this might be Baker’s third year with the team and not his second and how different would the narrative around him be at that point no longer does he have to go to the sinking ship in Carolina for a failure of a coach then get benched because the team is a hot mess he doesn’t get cut and then picked up by the Rams who by that point were also a sinking ship because of the injuries to a Litany of star players Instead The Narrative is likely that Baker is going into his third season with the team and looking to win a third straight division title with them in 2024 maybe 2022 goes differently for the bucks with Baker instead of Brady let’s be honest Brady wasn’t great in 22 but a lot of that is rightfully put on the shoulders of Byron left witch who looked beyond incompetent as an offensive coordinator without Bruce arens next to him on the sideline maybe Baker doesn’t do as much as Brady was able to with all of the bad play calling or maybe Baker does a little bit better without all of the off field distractions hanging over his head the way the Brady had we’re never really going to know but I can guarantee the narrative around Baker is very different in that alternate universe he doesn’t have the stigma of a player that was on three teams in one year and then four teams in two he doesn’t have that cloud of failure hanging over his head following him around everywhere he goes Baker finished the interview with Mike CA by saying let’s not get it twisted the division still runs through us and he is 100% right the outside noise at this point is what it is the Bucks overachieved Baker overachieved the Falcons are stacked the Saints are going to bounce back Dave Canales is going to get Bryce Young on track all of that noise all of those talking points those headlines those narratives it doesn’t change the fact that someone has to knock the bucks off the top of the ladder and outside the Bucks knocking themselves down it’s going to be an extremely difficult task for any of those teams in the South to do exactly that they still have one of the best receivers in the NFL they have another one that should be talked about in that same conversation they still have one of the best offensive tackles maybe the best offensive tackle in the NFL they still have arguably a top 10 running back and an emerging star they have one of the all-time best linebackers they have one of the best nose tackles they have the best safety in the game the Bucks have more star power and top players at their position than any other team in the NFC South they have shown time and time again that they are going to outperform their expectations from the outside they are going to outperform their betting odds that they are going to take care of business one way or another now you have a revamped interior offensive line you have a new offensive coordinator that’s going to play into the strengths of Baker Mayfield play into the strengths of Rashad white and put the power of the play calling into the hands of the players that are out there having to execute this team should by all accounts be even better than last year now to be fair to Evan kski who last week talked about how he think the Falcons and the Bucks are going to tie in terms of record at the end of the season but tiebreaker would go to the Falcons the Bucks have an exponentially more difficult schedule than any of their NFC counterparts they have a tough stretch in the first six seven weeks of the NFL season before things ease up for them after the buy they have to go through a gauntlet of litany tests against some of these NFL powerhouses but this is a good football team this is a good quarterback this is a team that when all is said and done should win the
