  1. I’m being completely honest here: the Isaiah Roby shot in 2022 to help the Blazers advance in the tank race is easily in my top 5 of most exhilarating Cronin-era games. There are plenty of games that have looked a lot more like 2023-2024’s iterations of matchups with the Thunder than that instance in 2022. But there were also a lot of games this season that were close and competitive before coming down to execution lapses, when the team was injured and it took impressive performances from young players to even stay alive in games that on paper should have been over before halftime. It’s not the same as rooting for wins, but I can say it’s something I can genuinely get behind

  2. I worked out the number of games won when Grant made around 7 shots : ~32. Averages are nonsense when discussing sports, as averages only suggest further analysis and are not really valuable in and of themselves.

  3. I for one deplore tanking because it trivializes the game, makes it unwatchable and thus insults the fan who pays a good sum of money to access games. To solve this problem I would suggest a single eliimantion tournament to determine which team selects first among those teams not qualifying for the post-season and then have three rounds of the draft with the first two rounds involving only the non-playoff teams. Also I would end trading draft picks, only players on contracts can be traded. Eliminate the benefit of tanking aggressively and then you'll get parity.

  7. Tanking requires a lack of integrity, a lack of integrity damages a team’s marketing image, a damaged marketing image is worse than honest losses. Trade Grant and Simons before the deadline and lose honestly.

  8. I wouldn't be shocked if this team wins 40 games if fully healthy. You're underestimating the talent of this squad. Last year they played mostly rookies and G-league players most of the season. Shaedon, Simons, and Ayton will be looking for extensions next offseason so tanking will not be in the players' best interest. Billups is also out to prove he's a better coach

  10. I have very mixed feelings about tanking but can’t deny that an improved chance to nab a possibly generational talent like Flagg would be worth it if they could manage to get him. I was very impressed with his recent performance against Team USA and part of the US select team. A high schooler lighting up guys like Steph and LeBron.
    Another thing I have been meaning to mention has to do with the plug for the gambling app, Fan Duel. Sports gambling and gambling in general is very in vogue at the moment. It’s a vice that is being clearly marketed towards teens and young adults. I am very concerned that in another ten or twenty years down the road we will be hearing news about concerning rates of gambling addictions. I’m not going all virtue signaling here. I occasionally buy a lotto ticket when it gets high. Some people become addicted though. I understand that your employer (the locked on network) likely has you promoting their sponsors but would you be comfortable with that if it was alcohol or tobacco?

  13. It won't surprise me if they play well enough to make the play in. CB is in his final year of his guaranteed contract and if they have a same record as last year, he'll be let go. So there's some incentive to improve well enough for him to return after the season.

  14. remember how everyone felt when the hornets out tanked us…only for atlanta to win with a 3% chance(as it was written praise lisan al-silver), being the worst doesn't equal a number one pick, detroit would be a whole lot better right now if it did, being a 25 win team isn't a bad thing

  16. They will win a few that on paper they had no right to. And lose some that will make you upset. In the grand plan, they'll lose just enough to guarantee the best lottery odds.

  21. Well, apparently it's another tank season for Capture The Flagg. I'm fine with another 20 win season as long as Shae stays healthy, we trade Grant and RW. I'm excited to see growth, not wins.
