Is divorce the reason why Mikko Koivu retired? His ex wife Helena Koivu talks about the divorce drama on social media and trashes alleged new fiancé tv host Natalie Dillon on her Instagram stories. Helena claims she is writing a book about the divorce and the aftermath.

Apparently Helena Koivu is now in Minnesota because everything regarding divorce is still not settled (atleast Helena thinks so). Helena claims that during the almost 5 year time after the divorce conflict started Mikko has tried just short time ago again to get her back and ditch his current alleged new fiancé Natalie, who Helena also claims to be the one Mikko cheated her with during the marriage.

Helena also claims that the prenup wasn’t followed (Helena was supposed to get one millon dollars from Mikko, nothing else) and that Mikko took the kids to Finland from Minnesota and left her with nothing. According court documents about the case prenup thing isn’t true, Helena just spent the money alredy during the divorce process.

Helena says she owns her own company in Minnesota, but she doesn’t have Visa to live in USA as she can’t support herself financially. During the marriage she used to have Spousal Visa because of Mikko Koivu’s hockey career. Still Helena thinks that somehow magically she could get kids back to Minnesota to live with her even after the court has ordered kids to move to Finland with Mikko and Mikko’s new fiancé Natalie Dillon (according the Finnish media they have gotten engaged). Helena and Mikko are both from Finland originally and agreed during their marriage that they would move back to Finland after Mikko’s career. Natalie is from US.

Hard to say what Helena is after to get from Mikko, but Helena claims that Mikko would have suggested that he would move back to Minnesota with their 3 kids if Helena would sign NDA and stop talking about the divorce, alleged cheating and the conflict around it on social media platforms and over all publicly. Helena doesn’t want stop talking, so seems to me like she is not after getting kids back to Minnesota, but possibly something else?

Helena has 13 000 followers on Instagram and is easy to find from social media. She posts both in english and finnish. Next Helena says she will write a book about the divorce and her life with the NHL ex player.

Seeing all of this I wonder if Mikko retired because of this messy divorce conflict?

  1. Honestly, I don’t like these kinds of posts. I care about Mikko the hockey player, and would prefer to let him keep his private life private.

    Divorce is hard, a lot of people go through it, and no one should have to go through it in public.

  2. Mikko retired because his body was decimated. His last season here it was painfully obvious, most days he could barely skate, then we’d get the game or two where he was just being Mikko again. He tried to play for Kekalainen with Laine in Columbus but his body just wouldn’t go.

    All of this sounds like a bummer divorce, we don’t actually know either of them or what happened, we can’t and won’t ever understand, I hope they both find happiness.

  4. One of the most emotional games I’ve ever been to was the Koivu jersey number ceremony game. Growing up a wild fan, not a legacy North Stars fan (was 7 when they left town), Koivu was THE guy for so long. So I got to watch the ascension and decline, like many others. You could see the decline first hand, the strength was gone, the legs were gone and his Selke work ethic was no longer supported by his body.

    That all said, again, as a Koivu fan from the get go, we got to see the personal side of his life. That meant seeing her at the hospital with him on kids visits, at other charitable events and of course at games with the kids. This brings me back to the jersey raising game. Not seeing her there or even a single mention from him, boy was that painful to see and not hear. Was it why he retired? I didn’t think so. I can imagine it was yet another painful dagger (emotional) to deal with towards the physically painful end of his career.

  6. I seem to recall catching a little something about Koivu and Paul Fenton’s wife. Unsubstantiated, of course, and I never heard anything about it again. Not that I expected such private stuff to come to light.

    Also, I do think Helena lived in Finland before Minnesota but don’t believe she is native. Mikko told a story about meeting her; she was working at a hotel and he tried to impress her by telling her his name. Not being a native Finn, she had no idea.

  7. I’ve been watching her IG stories with morbid fascination. There are always 2 sides to every story, and Mikko isn’t telling his, and he doesn’t have to. But wow, the allegations she has made are pretty incendiary. I doubt it’s why he retired, though. He wasn’t the player he was before. P.S. Helena is actually from Estonia, but has family in Finland, and used to work in Finland.

  11. Crossed paths with her once at the X, my heart skipped a beat. One of the more beautiful people I’ve seen in person. What the heck Mikko?
