Cutter Gauthier is a Narcissist. He believes he's "hockey captain america". Neither he, nor anyone else in the NHL will say it, but he left because he didnt want to be 2nd fiddle to a Russian star, on a team with a Russian goalie, defenseman…Cutter is Anti-Russia and thats why he left. But the narcisissist in him still wants to be viewed as Captain America, so he went to a team where he might be the most talented player in 2-3 years. He can "lead" Mctavish, Carlson, maybe Zegras, and be the main guy. Not completely dumb to want that, but went about it in a way that should, and I hope it does, result in the lil fire hydrant from Russia absolutely running him over when he plays my Flyers.

I feel like the question was answered. He didn't HAVE to go to the development camp, but he CHOSE to do so to meet with their younger prospects. If you want to argue that that's not enough, then fine, but that is what the article was getting at.
Personally, I hated the way he handled things with Philly, but that definitely isn't the same as how you interact with your fellow teammates on the ice or in the room. He could absolutely still be a great leader.
Is it just me or do a lot of these young players from the US national team program kinda of have entitlement issues about only playing when & where they want? Obviously not all but some of the top guys. Dunno just seems to be happening a fair bit.
