  2. Surprised there wasn’t an NHL contract elsewhere after the success he had last year.

  4. Guessing this will include a invite to NHL camp (PTO) which will be fun to see him play a game with Willy

  5. I like it. Obviously low risk with it being an AHL contract. Im sure he’ll be called up at some point due to injuries and he played well with the jackets last year.

  6. All I ask is that he somehow gets to play on a line with Willy in preseason, maybe on a PTO or something if that’s possible? Would love to see it, hated when that chance was taken from them internationally years ago.

  8. He definitely could have got an NHL contract after his end to the season last year. I wonder if there’s a handshake agreement on an NHL deal, but this lets them start him with the Marlies without waivers.

  9. For those wondering why it’s AHL and not a NHL minimum – I believe it’s waivers related. This way he can come to camp and if he doesn’t make it, be assigned to the AHL without waivers. If he plays well, can be converted to a two-way at league min.

  16. This is a good compromise for the fans. Alex gets into the organization but he doesn’t get a guaranteed nhl deal

  17. not surprised that we signed him, though I am a bit surprised it wasn’t an NHL deal. Maybe leverage against Robertson if he doesn’t sign? He could be good for 15 goals if given the ice time. I’d prefer Robertson no doubt, but when the cap is this tight you need to go bargain bin shopping.

    Domi takes less because he’s a local guy, Nylander has enough power to make the team take a flyer on his bro (and for good reason – he showed it can be worth it last year)

    Honestly I love it, both Toronto and Edmonton seem to be able to come up with all these creative team storylines the past couple years and it’s super exciting to be a part of and take a side as it plays out – please make the team and have a Nylander Bros shift

    Last thing, this should be easily flexible either way should Robertson actually hold out/get out. Good leverage to show the Leafs could easily fill or not regardless

  24. Could be good! Alex scored 5v5 goals at about the same rate as Will last season. While neither provides much defense or toughness, Alex is a lot cheaper.

  26. He was pretty good for Columbus last year I’m surprised no one gave him an NHL deal. This could work out nicely for the Leafs.

  27. As a Swede I’m hyped for this! I’ve been following these brothers since their teenage years. Alex was considered the more talented of them two, but so far he has been struggling, not to forget that he had a couple of injuries as well. I hope getting closer to his brother will boost his game and confidence. Would love to see them play on the same line someday.

  32. Is there a third Nylander out there in the NHL somewhere? Because the Leafs could do something REALLY funny in the next couple years.
