I updated these to reflect off-season moves we have seen so far. This is the only power rankings I will be doing until the weekend before the 2024-25 season starts.

Ill be cheering for Utah and Nashville this season in addition to my usual top 3; Detroit, Tampa and Islanders
And I agree that playoffs is a mustfor Detroit fans this year. I think in the Winged Wheel fanbase its basically "playoffs or bust" this year.
I love those promo Sharks jerseys. Just got a couple more on eBay for like 10-15 bucks and they’re great for pickup hockey
The Oilers are a very old team in terms of age. Since the salary ceiling was raised, no team with that average age of players has ever won the Stanley Cup
In my honest opinion the Avalanche should be 11th or 12th considering the loss of Val is huge plus the team defense needs to get stronger. The consistency in net is a concern as well.
I could definitely see calgary finishing dead last this year, theres a few teams that could compete for it but calgary was already very mediocre and have gotten a lot worse on paper, also if they start really bad I'd imagine they'll sell even more for futures
Sweet
My guess is the hawks finish somewhere in the 23-27 range
Your such a Rangers hater
I can see NYR having a regression.
Cats will continue to dominate because that team is full of dawgs
NJ clearly most improved on paper..Ithink NYI will ne able to doggie paddle
..more than tread water…NYR and CAR..are neutral Flyers maybe Darkhorse
Sadly, I think you are correct about Seattle. Something is not right there.
The islanders slander continues
I think Winnipeg at #9 is pretty high.
GO Cats 🐀🌴🐀🙌
The Canucks are slipping in the summer power rankings, because Vancouver got into the playoffs and went to game 7 of the second round. That really impacted JT Miller's golf power rankings.
Before watching this video, I feel very comfortable stating that Tampa, Nashville, Carolina, NYR, Boston, Florida, Toronto, Vancouver, Dallas, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Colorado are the most formidable 12 teams in the NHL, as of July 2024, in no particular order.
Edit after watching the video: looks like Hockey Guy agrees.
ULLMARK!!!!! Patrick Roy back coaching. Canucks changes. I have hope for these three teams.
Would be nice to see the Sabres, Wings and Sens all making the playoffs this season
Miss the angry comments too much, Shannon?
Blues just rearranged the deck chairs. Sad
I feel like seattle should be a bit higher, kraken are closer to bubble category than the canadiens.
The SC final FLA vs EDM reminds me of the 94 NYR vs VAN . The Rangers had VAN 3 – 1 & couldn't close out till game 7 @ home & honestly as a NYR fan, VAN outplayed them for the last 3rd of that game. Same w/ FLA / EDM b/c I think EDM outplayed FLA from the highlights that I saw. Of course , the NYR didn't make it back to the SC finals & imho, I don't think FLA will either.
Kings r going to fall off a cliff
San Jose is a wild card team. Wrong of the bat.
Love Shannon's power rankings, but here are my dramatic differences (teams in the wrong region of the board):
1. Minnesota belongs near the top of the third row. They have the same strong blueline that used to give them third place in the Central year after year and Kirill the Thrill who is one of the best forwards in hockey. They have slightly more in the way of up and coming youth than aging players. Last season, injuries suppressed their record. They did have a bit of a run through much the second half of last season. Goaltending uncertainty (yes, Gustafson can bounce), improvement by Utah, and the quality of the top 4 teams in the Central may still keep them out of the playoffs. I can see them competing for a wildcard spot most of the season whether they get there or not.
2. Montreal should still be in the bottom row. Their blueline needs maturity, which will take another season. They have a fantastic and still young first line, but not much more in terms of forward depth. Their goaltending is good, but not stellar. Lots to love, including coaching, but they are still bottom row for another season.
3. The Red Wings have no business in the second row. The reason for criticism of Yzerman, at least now, is warranted. They were on the cusp of the playoffs last season and Yzerman not only failed to improve their questionable overall blueline, but actually probably weakened it slightly. They can score and they have average goaltending. Every team that goes through a rebuild generally has trouble growing a blueline through the draft, defensemen take much more time to develop, and when I don't see moves to improve it through bringing in vets, it's a sign that the team is either not ready or not being pushed forward enough by the GM.
4. I'd move Islanders into the second row. Here is why Shannon is undereating them again: (a) a full season under Roy will fix their special teams, they are strong 5 on 5, (b) no way Sorokin has another season that bad and they made the playoffs with one of the best goalies in hockey having an inexplicably weak season, (c) team constancy is underrated and Roy doesn't have to digest much in new personnel (enabling Roy to fix the special teams) and the addition of DuClair fits nicely.
5. Boston and New Jersey look top row to me but it's hard to argue with the teams he kept there. Jersey fixed their goaltending and juiced their bottom 6 and blueline and will not likely have the injury problems that they did last season. Boston essentially swapped out Ulmark to get finally get a credible top line center and, with that blueline and starting goalie remain one of the strongest low event hockey teams in the league (and have Pasta to break games). I could see both in place of Vancouver and Carolina but it's debatable. I comment because they are clearly better teams than Tampa, Winnipeg, and Toronto. They should at least be at the beginning of the second row.
Just my opinion and I know this is midsummer and Shannon may change his mind when and if other moves happen and when he does a deeper dive closer to the start of the season.
Ducks fans are so spoiled. We are always close to first to know where we are in the Power Rankings.
As a Sharks fan I'm hopeful that they aren't at the very bottom by the end of the upcoming season. I can't blame you for putting them there though!
Saw a video on midsummer rankings. Do I think this is pointless? Yes. Am I watching it in full? Yes. Hockey can’t come back soon enough.
Florida will definitely not repeat.

Yzerplan is seeming too Hollandish. Throw the youngsters in and lose if neccessary with them .
Sharks going all the way with a crazy bounces leading us to the playoffs lol 😊
Leafs should be top 8,just saying never underestimate richest team in the League, florida lost Montour and more.
Dallas lost Tanev and Pavelski, Carolina lost players,Vancouver lost Zadorov.
OTTAWA Gained Ullmark and Perron,OTTAWA making playoffs,Detroit isnt.
Second line center for the AVS they are at least 3. Colorado Avalanche have been trying to solve since Nazem Kadri left town after winning the Stanley Cup in 2022. And that’s the issue of second-line. Center.Casey Mittelstadt from the Buffalo Sabres is not enough.
Bring in regular season I need power rankings back
Rarely do I disagree with you but…devils, Boston, and red velvet wings are ranked to low I think. And rangers, Nashville, Tampa, and Carolina ranked too high
Pretty common sense ranking you've got there Shanmon, but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that at least a half dozen teams will end up differently on that board by mid April….cheers
Ranking Avs after Jets given regular season and postseason outcomes between them makes no sense. Did the Jets acquire Gretzky or something?
Bold take: The Boston Bruins miss
Great ranking! That Sharks hat is uh….something
Some teams are getting way too much credit and some teams are shoved to the bottom with not enough credit imo.
