More Guardians Trade Targets and Rumors After a Series Win On the Road Against Best Team in Baseball

The Guardians have struggled in July, yet won a series against the Phillies this weekend, the best team in baseball. Today’s episode covers how the Guardians pulled out this series win, how aggressive Stephen Vogt with the bullpen Sunday to win this game, and how Cade Smith is the current Andrew Miller for Cleveland.

We also quickly get into Joey Cantillo’s debut and why they went in this direction for the game.

We spend a lot of time in this episode reacting to the trades that have already happened, why Cleveland didn’t make any of them, and we list some targets and why Cleveland hasn’t been involved in many rumors, and why that doesn’t mean they won’t do anything.

  1. I had been calling for Cantillo's debut for a while, and the debut him in Philadelphia!
Strikeout on a changeup, strikeout on a fastball, and one on a slider. Not bad against a difficult team. He should stay up. There is not a reason to send him down, unless he implodes.

  2. It’s incredible when your “weak link” in the bullpen is Scott Barlow, who has an ERA in the low 3’s. This pen is historic and probably the best I’ve seen in my 40 years watching MLB.

  3. Fedde and Robert would be perfect as crazy as it sounds and I’d be willing to break the prospect bank for them together. Lawrence Butler would be insane too, he’s hot as hell atm. I’m a big fan of either him or Rooker, but I don’t want to give Ralphy AND Delauter.

  4. I have been saying all along that the Andrew Miller trade WAS there all along. It's for AJ Puk, who was traded this past week. The career trajectory of Miller and Puk are almost identical. I would have doubled down on the bullpen. This is how the team wins in the postseason.

  5. maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but I thought Sandlin's pitches had more movement yesterday than I had seen in his previous outings since the injury.

  6. Great series in Philly, despite the ugly game on Saturday. However, a switch has definitely been flipped. Our only hope for a victory is to win a low scoring games. I hope that is an overreaction, but it seems like we started the year as the 1999 Indians, and then morphed straight into the '21squad.

Nice non trade breakdown. I hope you are right. Both Randy and Eflin would seemed to be wonderful fits. Either or both would have been worth overpaying for.

I do not think Winker is a good fit. Lane Thomas or Doyle from Colorado would be great bats. Butler sounds nice too, yeah. Fedde or Flaherty only seem the good starters left. Can Cal really be worse than Cookie?
