    >Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Martin Necas on a two-year, $13 million contract extension. Necas will receive an average-annual value (AAV) of $6.5 million through 2025-26.

  2. 6.5M is a good price and 2 years is a good term given the situation. hope it works out!

  3. Hell yeah! So glad they were able to come to an agreement without arbitration. I am super curious to see what the term and AAV are.

Edit: Looks like it’s 2×6.5 👍 Hopefully Jarvy’s contract will follow quickly now that all of these loose ends are tied up.

  4. Necas is a horrible player. All he does is score and display pure dominance on every player he goes against. Plus I hate his sexy thighs. I have posters of him thirst trapping in my room because I hate him so much. I stare at these posters in rage. I have 88 posters just to remind me how much I hate him.

  5. Will he still be RFA after 2 years? Away from computer to look at contract details

  6. While it’s a good number the term tells you he’s on the clock.

Still think he absolutely is getting moved if a team is willing to make a fair move for him on this new deal.

Gotta wonder if WPG is willing to roll the dice knowing Ehlers is gonna walk in 12 months. Get at least another year of contract at least for them.

  7. Probably not too far off what the arbitrator would have given. Leaves about 7.3ish left to sign Jarvis.

  8. Back to back bridge deals. Risky, but can definitely pay out more if he keeps it up

  9. Glad to avoid arbitration, but this is an L undoubtedly, walks him right to UFA. I’d be surprised if he isn’t traded at some point before the end of the deal, but it’s pretty clear he values himself much more highly than the league at large does.

Maybe he proves everyone wrong and lights it up, he’ll have lots of opportunities this season.

  10. I suspect he’s a much more attractive trade candidate with that number locked down for 2 years.

  11. 2 years at a little over value and walked him into the UFA. Not a fan. I’m wondering if we move him now. Necas’ agent definitely won this one.

  12. Fair AAV – I don’t think long term was realistic in the current state of relations and wanting a change – hopefully they can work something out this season and either move him or extend him, since this walks him right to UFA. Love hima nd would love to see them be able to figure out how to put it all together

  13. Stupid question: Doesn’t this leave us with only about 6.5 million in cap space for Jarvis………?

  14. Honestly like this. Need his offense this upcoming season and I think he’ll be given look at 2C, if he doesn’t do well there I wouldn’t be surprised if he is moved next offseason, if he does well and grows into that 2C spot, then I could see him being given a contract extension next offseason.

  15. I think this is a good resolution for now. Value’s decent, and we’ve got enough term to evaluate whether to keep or move him. Plus we’ve avoided arbitration, which is something you really don’t want to happen no matter what the plans are with Necas.

  16. Wouldn’t have imagined this 2 months ago but pretty happy about it!

    2nd line center

  17. I don’t understand walking him straight to UFA

I was wondering all off-season if it was Waddell or Tulsky that wanted to hold their UFAs and “go for it” last year

This deal puts the Canes in the exact same position next off-season as Pesce, Skjei and Teravainen this year which is not a good position to be in.  RFA Necas coming off a good year is worth a LOT more than a 1 year to UFA Necas.

  18. Seems like a win-win for player and team. He gets to walk to UFA and have control over his future, they get time to make a final decision on whether they want him to be part of the future here and (assuming no NMC/NTC) some added value if they decide to trade. And, of course, we keep his offense, which we desperately need.

I figured he was guaranteed to be gone and am excited to have him back.

  19. I’m so happy right now. We deserve one good thing out of this summer. I really think Necas is an important part of our team and he will continue to produce more points, like he has in the last two seasons.
