  1. I thought you guys would enjoy this, but last month I was in Japan and while at a restaurant, the chef walked up to me and said "NETO! OHOPPE! ADELL! RENGIFO! YEAH!!"
We kept talking baseball and he said he was mad that NHK didn't show the Angel games anymore because he, and a bunch of other people, became Angel fans over the years. He said the Dodgers were kind of boring because they bought an All-Star team that's expected to win, but watching the Angels was exciting because he could really cheer as the team of young players developed into pros. He said he misses when Ohtani was on the Angels.

  2. They better get busy and trade a whole bunch of guys. They might be working on packaging several players to one team for a higher level prospect. Anderson has to go, as does Garcia, Strickland and Pillar. They can trade Regnifo and Ward in the off season if they don't like the deals available. BTW… there's no way Trout doesn't ask for a trade this off season. He's turning 33– how does he stay hoping to make the playoffs 3-years from now?

  3. I think that ultimately they will trade Anderson, but keeping him wouldn't be a bad thing either. If they don't trade him it's because the return isn't that great.

  4. So, I have a slightly different perspective. I'm probably wrong, but I can't help but think they might keep Anderson, the biggest reason is Wash not Arte.
Wash is all about the veterans teaching and mentoring the young guys. If they trade away ALL the "rentals" or veterans without a non-trade clause, there will literally be no veterans left. Soriano and Canning are trying, but they are not the leadership that Wash is looking for, nor do they have enough experience.

Yes, the coaches are there too, but how often do we see players (and people in general) learn better from peers than coaches, teachers or even parents? O'Hoppe and Joyce have done interviews recently where they talk about how important the veterans' knowledge and leadership is and what it has meant to them. We can tell it makes a difference on the field.

"The young guys need to figure it out!" Yes, they do, but we've seen so many that implode from the pressure (Detmers & Kochanowicz most recently.) The learning, of course, will have to happen no matter if there are veterans or not, but Wash's emphasis on the veteran players stepping up and being present has always been clear.

To me, it feels like a conversation between Wash, Perry and maybe Arte happened where he said, "Look, trade away whoever you need to, but leave me Anderson. I have only one reliable starting pitcher. Let him stay the rest of this season to mentor these guys." Wash is only guaranteed this year and next year. Maybe he wants to go into next season knowing he has at least one solid starter if his contract isn't extended, or he chooses to retire.

This will probably get a lot of hate and the "Sell them all now!" Angels fans are just a joy, but it's been going through my head since TA implied he didn't think he'd get traded to the media the other day.
    .

  5. I will be hugely surprised if the Angels trade Tyler Anderson. They should trade him. It is highly unlikely he will ever have more trade value than he has now. Of course we can expect Arte Moreno to screw this up.

  6. If Anderson is NOT traded, please don't put all of the blame on Arte, and give Minasian a free pass. If all Perry is going to do is lick Arte's boots, why not just make Erica Weston the GM? She's much easier on the eyes than Minasian. (no offense meant, Perry)
