Should The Jets Acquire Patrik Laine and What is Hockey Analytics?

Someone asked so here we go!

I touch on adding Laine to the Jets and all the complications around that.

I also continue our hockey analytics series.

As always, questions, suggestions, and thoughts are appreciated.

  1. He’s been impacted by physical and mental health issues that have been worked on. There is no way to predict the on ice outcome of picking him up.

As a fan who buys tickets to games, I say screw the analytics. This team has been a bit plain vanilla to cheer for despite their good record. I’d love to have a fan favorite come back for a movie made redemption story, even if it comes with significant risk.

  2. The Jets needs a Laine-type player – a difference maker who can score at will when he’s really on… and Laine needs stability, familiarity and a home… which the Jets could have. The fans will go fucking ballistic if he steps back on the ice wearing a Jets jersey. Get it done Chevy.

  3. Unless it’s for a 2nd round pick and the Jackets eat half his salary I’d steer clear.

  4. There are few plays in the NHL that compare to the Laine goalie stare down at the top of the circle.
