  1. Man ahahahahha good job trashman. You went to the bargain bin again but this time you traded away a good minor league reliever arm!!!!

  2. Savant page is sexy and 2+ years of control. Rather this than overpay for Flaherty.

  3. Cubs fan coming in peace

Leiter is very dependent on his nasty splitter. If he has command of that pitch he is dominant, if he doesn’t then you’re in trouble. Although he gets the job done more often than not.

  4. He’s grew up in Tom’s River, NJ.   Do we know anyone else who grew up there?

  5. I know this year has been a bit shaky bullpen wise for the Yankees, but overall over Cashman’s Yankee tenure they’ve been pretty darn good at putting together solid bullpens. Mark Leiter’s advanced metrics are extremely solid and he has two years of control left, I really think the Yankees are putting together a shrewd deadline so far (still would like an impact bat and a reliever or starter) but so far so good!

  6. If you want swings and misses, Mark Leiter is 7th in MLB in whiff rate with only guys like Munoz Hader Cruz and Miller above him. One of the best splitters in the game, opponents hit .053 against it with a 63% whiff rate, for a pitch that’s been throws at least 150 times that’s the highest whiff rate in baseball. Expected BA on his curveball is also .133 with a tremendous 48% whiff rate, and slider also has an elite 38% whiff rate. Given that his fastball is pretty unimpressive maybe they make him throw more offspeed?

  7. Giving up Jack Neely is tough.  He was doing great this year in the minors and had the making of being a solid reliever.  Surprised we gave him up as we could have just called him up and seen what he’s got.   Likely better than at least 3 bullpen arms right now.

  8. I like the move. Losing Jack Neely is not the greatest but I think this is a great “gotta give to get” move. Hope Cowles and Neely find success and hope Leiter, Jr. finds his stride here and misses bats like he knows how.

  9. THERE’S the random reliever. This is why Matt Blake is so valuable, they can acquire someone like this and we all still have confidence he will make an impact.

  10. Don’t love the ERA but it sounds like he has the stuff to be a good reliever. Interested to see what Blake can do with him.

  11. The base statistics might not stand out, but his advanced numbers tell a different story. He’s been a much better pitcher than his ERA would lead on. Plus, 2 more years of arbitration control. Sneaky move by Cashman.

  12. Can’t say I’ve ever seen him pitch before, stats say he is below average? Didn’t really give much up regardless, worth a try.

  13. I know nothing about this guy but I think we have to give Cashman the benefit of the doubt when it comes to obscure bullpen pieces. It doesn’t always work out but when it does, it’s usually pretty damn good.

  14. Not surprised. He and Volpe were best friends and promised they’d play together in the bigs. Cashman is making it happen.
