  1. Bro couldn’t come back from this a year’s playoffs:

He was certifiably cooked, and the Thunder gave him more than enough chances to usurp Giddey in the playoff rotation

  2. This is really sad

I think his career is a bit of a what-if, he was a really good player with the Jazz and I can’t imagine the mental toll the injury had on him (as well as the physical toll ofc)

    Wish him luck in retirement

  3. People forget dude had a career ending type of injury… shame on how his career ended, one of the biggest what ifs in Celtics history. Happy retirement Gordon!

  4. It sucks his career will always be about what could have been, instead of what actually was.

  5. I think it’s a fairly significant what-if scenario if he never wrecks his ankle game 1 of his Celtics career.

  6. I hate how Shams doesn’t give any credit to Gordon Hayward’s own post. People might think this is his exclusive news, but he’s just fastest to “retweet” Hayward’s own post and not give any credit.

  7. I know he was starting to look pretty washed by the end of his Hornet’s tenure/few months on OKC, but still prettt shocked by this. Would have thought he had at least a couple years as a veteran second-unit guy left.

  8. There were rumors from the OKC side during the summer that he really didn’t want to get traded from Charlotte. He was super content there and just wanted to be comfortable. Wasn’t happy to be traded to OKC at all and that affected his play. Guess this sort of confirms that. Can’t blame a dude for being happy in a situation.

  9. I figured this would have been a possibility. His days as a starter are over.

I think he could have had a season or two left in the tank if he wanted to ring chase on a vet-min and be load-managed off the bench.

Dude’s made over 250M in his career – not much left to prove after getting that much of a bag.

  10. Paul George is the only one remaining from the 2010 draft. I think Harden and Curry are the only 2 from 2009, Westbrook and Love from 2008, Durant Horford Conley from 2007?

  11. As a duke fan I’ll forever love Gordon Hayward for missing that half court shot in the national championship game.

As a Charlotte fan I really enjoyed watching him score 23 points 2 times a month when healthy.

  12. That’s crazy to think PG is now the last man standing of their draft class. Especially considering how he had a freak injury ten years ago.

That injury with the Celtics was a career killer for Hayward. I don’t think he ever recovered from that mentally.

  13. Celtics Hayward was definitely the coldest white boy in the nba at the time, salute to him

  14. I will never forget that season opener with the Celtics when he snapped his ankle. I was on Xbox with several of my friends, and I had turtle beaches on, and I heard a pop, and saw he hit the ground hard as fuck. And then the league pass camera was completely zoomed in on his ankle just dangling there. My friends and I were freaking out lol. I’ve always thought what if with those Celtics teams if he didn’t get injured.

  15. This dude really was White LeBron when he was in Utah

His injury was scary as fuck to watch in real time I’m glad he was still able to come back but he was never the same

  16. You can only wonder what would’ve been if not for that horrific ankle injury in his first game with the Celtics.

  17. Aye man 14 years is a pretty damn good run even though it was clear he was cooked after that nasty ankle injury people still gave him bags

  18. Remember that time he hit a half-court buzzer beater against Duke to win the national championship? That was top 5 all-time craziest sports moment.

If you remember differently you must be on a different timeline, best figure out a way to get back where you came from.

  19. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, look up the Hayward family’s gender reveal video. Shit is too funny. He is sooo bummed.

  20. Very underwhelming career. Looked like he was on to something and just complete flatlined for half a decade.

  21. He almost won a national championship for Butler on a half court lob buzzer beater too

  22. Not a controversial statement by any measure, but wow do injuries suck. Wish him the best.

  23. Man, the nba would have looked so different had he not gone down. A big reason for Tatum’s rise in his rookie year is because Hayward went out bad for the entire season. I do wonder how they would have looked considering how good Utah Hayward was.

  24. Dude was able to get crazy contracts over that 14years. Good for him walking away. He’ll probably be remembered more for his butler time than his nba career

  25. Nobody talks about it, but the fact that he got a 4 year $120M contract from Charlotte is one of the greatest contract fleeces of all time. Nobody thought he would get even close to that coming off his Boston contract
