Michael Baumann [This was a fun one to research. The Yankees are more reliant on Judge and Soto than any offense has been on two players in the 21st century. Probably because Judge and Soto are on pace to create more runs than any pair of teammates in the 21st century.]

  1. Yeah it’s a somewhat misleading thing. People wail about too much Judge and Soto, but they might be the best pair of hitters in a lineup since Ruth and Gerhig. And I’m only exaggerating a little. Like together they’re gonna be worth around 20 war this year, which is insane.

  2. I don’t think its *entirely* just that Judge and Soto are amazing. To the best of my recollection, even the Barry Bonds + scrubs teams usually had a few additional players over 100 ops+ and when Stanton went down, before Wells started rocking, we had no one else for a big stretch. It really was Soto, Judge and pray for a while there. Hopefully, that stays in the past and the final numbers are a bit more distributed.

  3. There’s a reason why star players are star players… look at the Phillies this week with Harper and Schwarber being literal zeros. Imagine the Orioles without Gunnar or Adley. Imagine the Dodgers without Ohtani. Every team in the league is screwed if their elite players go down or go ice cold.

  4. It’s amazing that Judge has been so good that it’s completely overshadowing the fact that Soto is having the best (full) season of his career by a decent margin.

Soto has been billed as a generational talent, has significantly stepped up his game from that, and it still pales in comparison to watch Judge is doing. 9 years/360M is seeming like an absolute bargain now.
