  1. Mike Brown has a point by being a defense first head coach.

The 80's Celtics and Lakers, both teams played great defense and it lead to great offense.

When Jordan led the Bulls, they had a great defense that helped make the triangle offense so deadly.

The Spurs, they did the same when Duncan was leading the way. The defense made the offense work.

The Warriors… again…same thing. The Defense made the offense work.

The Celtics this past season. Great defense and it made the offense great as well.

I am not sure if the West really got better this off-season.

The Clippers got worse. The Warriors are likely not as good. The Blazers, Jazz and Spurs won't be good. The Grizzlies and Rockets are to much of wild cards to know what they will be. The Pelicans may or may not be healthy again.

That is 7 teams that I am not seeing a lot of things to get excited about.

We know Boston and Philadelphia are going to fight like dogs in the east. Indiana, Cleveland and New York are going to be really damn good. Miami and Orlando can't be counted out and Milwaukee, even with the disaster that happened under Doc Rivers, is still a threat.

The Hawks, Bulls, Pistons, Wizards, Nets, Rapters and Hornets are the ones who will be weak.

So I think it is going to be a very balanced NBA. The 16 who should be playoff teams and the rest hoping for good picks in the lottery.

The good teams in the west got better. The conference as a whole might not be. This doesn't mean it will play out exactly as expected. Injuries happen, some vets will underperform, some young players will regress instead of taking a step forward. A lot of variables.

But as it looks right now, this appears to be a pretty balanced NBA.
