The Freeman Family provides an update on Maximus’ Health on IG

Hi All,
We wanted to give an update on Maximus.
Last Friday, Max rapidly declined and went into full body paralysis. We are very fortunate to have gotten him to the hospital in time so they could reinforce his lungs. Freddie was in Houston at the time and rushed to the first flight back home. After many tests, Max is battling a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome. A rare neurological condition that is especially rare in children. These have been the hardest and scariest days of our lives. Maximus is such a special boy and he has been fighting SO hard.
This is going to be a journey to recover, but we have faith that he will be completely healed. We have been blown away by his improvements in the last 48 hours. Maximus was excavated from his breathing tube and taken off of the ventilator yesterday, which is a huge win for us. We believe in the power of prayer and we have been witnessing a miracle in his recovery. Please continue to cover Maximus and our family in your prayers. We really appreciate and have felt all of your support.

  1. Big W for the Freeman family. Way more important than baseball. Glad to hear max is recovering well

  2. It’s nice they gave an update even though they shouldn’t have felt obliged to do so. Take all the time you need Freddie. We need you, but your son and family need you far more. 🙏

  3. Damn he was in a really bad condition, as a parent this is scary. I hope they’re alright now

  4. Happy that he was able to bounce back! I can’t imagine everything that Freddie and his wife was going through that time. Especially when he was stuck in the air between the states.

  5. I’m glad Chelsea felt comfortable to give everyone an update. It leads me to believe that Max is improving. Take al the time you need Freddie.

  6. >Most people recover completely from Guillain-Barre syndrome, but some serious illnesses can be fatal. While recovery may take up to several years, most people are able to walk again six months after symptoms first began. Some people may have lasting effects, such as weakness, numbness or fatigue.

Hopefully he’s through the worst of it now…

  7. There were somehow people mad at Freddie for taking the time off to be with his kid.

It shouldn’t matter how severe it is in the first place, but we’re talking about Freddie Freeman here -a guy the FO basically has to *force* a rest day on which he only begrudgingly takes at the end of the season once there aren’t *any* stakes involved

I’m happy there’s good news for the Freeman family and I hope he takes all the time he needs

  8. So scary. This family is wonderful and I’m glad they gave us an update- not like they needed to, but as a fan, they’ve been on my mind every day.

  9. My coworker got Guillain-Barre. It was a crazy time we thought he was going to die. He recovered, relearned how to walk, and is back like nothing happened. I feel like it was a real miracle.

Prayers to Little Max and the Freemans.
