Cooper Pratt’s first hit as a Timber Rattler is a home run

Instagram is the only place where I can find a video of it so sorry about that.

But WOW! This kid is really special. We don’t need to trade for or sign another shortstop after Willy is gone. This guy is the future. He will be just as good as Turang or Ortiz.

Unfortunately for Willy I think the better this kid gets the less of a chance he gets to re-sign. Would you guys agree?

Here’s what our infield could look like by 2026:

1B Black

2B Turang

SS Pratt

3B Ortiz/Wilken

Plus Mitchell, Frelick, Perkins, and Chourio in the outfield. Sheesh, talk about what could end up being one of the greatest defenses in the history of baseball.

  1. I don’t think there’s a chance Black stays on the infield. Pratt is also a couple of years away, so we’ll see how they handle SS when they get there.

  2. > could end up being one of the greatest defenses in the history of baseball.

This might be getting just a *bit* ahead of ourselves.

  3. If all develop according to plan, Wilken will probably move to first and Black will DH.

  4. I’m super happy he wasn’t traded and feel like eventually he could have Chourio level of prospect hype (I’d even be thrilled with the Gunnar Henderson comparisons a lot of people are giving him) but this post is a whole lot of hopium. I saw the HR too and hate to kill your buzz, but you need to temper your expectations a bit.

For starters, he’s still only 19 (turns 20 on 8/18) and was just drafted last year. He still has 3-4 years before he’ll be up as a position player drafted out of high school. He’s not like Chourio that has been playing major league baseball since he was 16. Even if they speed up his advancement, he JUST made it to High A, at best we’ll see him in Milwaukee some time in 2026 but more realistically it will be 2027-28. With that timeline there is no correlation between his presence and Adames staying or going. He may not even play with Ortiz and Turang as they, Mitchell, and Frelick will all start hitting arbitration in 3 year and they may not want to keep multiple guys with arbitration contracts all going up at the same time. Even if they do keep all of them all those guys will be hitting free agency around Pratt’s 1st or 2nd year, they’re certainly NOT paying all of them.

Not to even mention he probably won’t be a SS long term. He’s 6’4″ and is going to fill out as players his size do. Players his size like Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr don’t stay at SS, if they have the arm they move to 3B or corner OF. And he’s actually taller than both of them. Someone like Ortiz or Turang is more suited defensively to take over at SS whenever Adames leaves.

He’s worth being excited for, but what you’re imagining after one game in High A are not realistic expectations.

  5. How does someone actually watch the rattlers? Are they on something random like Flo or Dazn
