Who Will Be the New York Islanders New Enforcer This Coming Season?

Who Will Be the New York Islanders New Enforcer This Coming Season?

With both Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck still unsigned and unlikely to be back, who will step up and be the new enforcer/protector for the New York Islanders next season? We break down who dropped the gloves last season and who on the current roster is most likely to step up and assume that role and why they may not. It’s also possible Lou Lamoriello signs a new player to fill that role but again, somebody would have to be moved out to add a new player to the roster.

We also discuss the latest on Cole Eiserman and Jesse Nurmi at the World Juniors Summer Showcase and how Anders Lee and Mike Reilly are playing in Da Beauty League.

And some good news about Brendan Burtke and the Isles broadcast booth.

All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. None of the current isles could punch their way out of a paper bag ! They better get a heavyweight and if they can’t a middle weight will have to do

  2. no need for that anymore…speed , skill , hard checking and grit…not paying anyone to punch helmets anymore. those days are long gone…fix the power play and the pk…get to next year when cap space opens up…then you wanna play and find an enforcer for 1 mil to fit the seats…fine

  3. Move out 18 to do that. Weak ass roster that lacks an enforcer due to lack of $$$'s by louzer. Maybe the $$$'s wasted on soft as butter 18 could be better spent on an enforcer. Oh well like it matters-who on the isles roster really scares other teams that they would have to resort to cheap tactics to stop? Didn't have that problem with the dynasty. No one would dare lay a finger on 19 or 22 because jethro, nystrom, and others would take care of that. Even 5 could fight when needed. Bettman's nicer, gentler nhl has taken hitting and enforcement out of the game turning nhl into a figure skating game with a lot of dancers out there. 13 is one of them. Cheap shot artists like stevens a louzer favorite employed to take out top scorer on opposing team that bettman let get away with head hunting in the '90's-early 2000's need not apply today. Maybe go find the other gillies trevor and give him a shot at roster since he was the last isle with the cajones to stick up for isles amidst dirty pen tactics about 13 years ago.
btw louzer is down to three options with 26. Trade 26, keep 26, or wait till before season to put on waivers if 26 not claimed goes to ahl. Maybe 26 belongs in ahl to see if he can produce with sub par guys in B'port?
